5 Intrducing DBArtisan Intrducing DBArtisan DBArtisan is an industry-leading database administratin slutin fr managing Oracle, Micrsft SQL Server, Sybase, PstgreSQL, IBM DB2, and MySQL databases. Its crssplatfrm capability allws users t efficiently manage hetergeneus database platfrms easily using a single frnt-end tl. Using DBArtisan, users bst their prductivity by using a single tl fr all their databases, regardless f the vendr. Abut DBArtisan Yur new applicatin prvides tls that can be used by a number f functins within an rganizatin using DBMS frm multiple vendrs, in testing, develpment, r prductin envirnments. Datasurce and Server Management: Datasurces must be registered. Datasurces can be registered manually r semi-autmatically. Strage can be registry-based r filebased, and a netwrk strage ptin facilitates shared use f datasurce catalgs. Object management tls: Yur applicatin supprts a wide range f database bjects and related elements fr each DBMS. Yu can create new bjects, edit existing bjects, and use a range f bject peratins that supprt cmmn, general r DBMS-specific actins. Cding Envirnments/Editrs: Fully-featured envirnments dedicated t SQL, DDL and Active Script develpment are prvided. Executin ptins are available as apprpriate, and envirnment-specific related features, such as rllback/cmmit and query plan ptins, are prvided. 6 Intrducing DBArtisan The DBArtisan Analyst Series includes advanced space, capacity, perfrmance and backup management capabilities. They let yu predict and prevent stragerelated prblems, trend data and bject grwth ver time, and pinpint perfrmance bttlenecks. 7 Technical Requirements Technical Requirements Befre using DBArtisan, please verify that yur envirnment meets the requirements listed belw: Nte: Users need full registry privileges during the installatin and access t the keys under HKEY_CURRENT_USER in the registry after installatin. Brwser Requirements DBArtisan requires Micrsft Internet Explrer 11 r later. Hardware Requirements Embarcader Technlgies recmmends the fllwing minimum hardware requirements: Pentium 4-level prcessr 1 GB f memry 1 GB f disk space 1024 x 768 display Operating System Requirements DBArtisan supprts the fllwing perating systems: Windws XP SP" (32-bit and 64-bit) Windws Vista (32-bit and 64-bit) Windws 7 (32-bit and 64-bit) Windws 8 (32-bit and 64-bit) XP Supprt Ntes Windws XP has tw user security grups: Users and Pwer Users. Micrsft intentinally des nt grant members f the Users Grup the authrity t install applicatins r make glbal changes t the system. Restricted Users are members f the Users Grup. Standard users belng t the Pwer Users Grup. Micrsft grants members f the Pwer Users Grup the authrity t install prgrams. Yu must be a member f the Administratrs Grup t install and use Embarcader Technlgies applicatins. Because Restricted Users are members f the Users Grup, they cannt install and run Embarcader Technlgies applicatins. Use the Grup Membership tab t determine yur grup and review the Micrsft security guidelines. On the Cntrl Panel, pen User Accunts. On the Users tab, select a user and then click the Prperties buttn. 8 Technical Requirements Vista and Windws 7 Supprt Ntes Windws Vista UAC and Windws 7 prvide tw user types: Standard users and Administratrs. DBArtisan can be installed r uninstalled by an administratr r by a standard user using an administratr tken. Standard users can run DBArtisan. Fr the purpse f running DBArtisan, default standard user tken privileges shuld nt be mdified. Mdifying standard user tken privileges can result in licensing issues that will prevent DBArtisan frm perating crrectly. Nte: Fr installing DBArtisan and Rapid SQL , Windws 7 requires the flwing. Service Pack 1. Update fr Windws (KB ). 32-bit versus 64-bit Applicatin Cnsideratins and Restrictins If yu install the 64-bit versin f DBArtisan, and yu are using custm drivers, yu must be using 64-bit versins f thse drivers when using the 64-bit versin f DBArtisan. Similarly, 32-bit versins f custm drivers must be used with the 32-bit DBArtisan installatin. Fr versin cntrl integratin, if yu install the 64-bit versin f DBArtisan, yu can wrk with either a 32-bit r 64-bit MSSCCI prvider. 11 DBMS Supprt and Cnnectivity Optins Generic JDBC/ODBC Cnnectivity Generic JDBC/ODBC cnnectivity t nn-dedicated DBMS systems r nn-database datasurces is als prvided. DBArtisan can cnnect t a datasurce using a custmerprvided, third-party JDBC versin 4.0 r ODBC versin 3.0 driver. Minimal DBArtisan functinality is prvided, including a basic Explrer tree and SQL querying. IBM DB2 fr Z/OS Stred Prcedure Requirements When wrking against an IBM DB2 fr z/os data surce, DBArtisan relies n the fllwing stred prcedures, prvided as an ptinal installatin step in setting up the DB2 subsystem: DSNWZP DSNUTILS ADMIN_COMMAND_DSN ADMIN_COMMAND_DB2 Prir t using DBArtisan against an IBM DB2 fr z/os data surce, ensure that these cmpnents are installed n the server. See IBM DB2 fr z/os dcumentatin fr mre infrmatin. Specifically-tested JDBC/ODBC Cnnectivity Prducts: Apache Hive/Hadp DBArtisan has been successfully tested against Apache Hive/Hadp datasurces using the Hrtnwrks ODBC driver. Similarly, Cludera Impala datasurces have been tested using the Cludera JDBC driver. In bth cases, SQL querying and a Datasurce Navigatr/Explrer tree are available. DBMS Versins n Lnger Supprted As f this release, DBArtisan is n lnger being tested against Sybase ASE versins befre Embarcader Technlgies 11

12 Installing and Licensing DBArtisan Installing and Licensing DBArtisan Befre yu can register any Embarcader Technlgies applicatin, yu must meet the minimum technical requirements. If yu meet all the minimum technical requirements, yu can install DBArtisan. After installatin, yu must license the applicatin. The installer ffers cmmn ptins such as license agreement, file and flder selectins, and shrtcut ptins. An applicatin-specific ptin lets yu assciate file suffixes f elements such as SQL scripts with DBArtisan. NOTE: Befre installing DBArtisan frm Embarcader TlClud, see fr additinal requirements r revised instructins. The panels presented by the wizard vary depending n whether yu are upgrading r perfrming an initial installatin. An Embarcader prduct, such as DBArtisan, has a baseline license that prvides basic feature supprt fr that prduct. Understanding Trial, Wrkstatin, and Netwrked Licenses Three kinds f licenses are available: Trial, Wrkstatin, and Netwrked. Trial licenses A license fr a 14-day, full-featured trial versin f the prduct. The trial license must be registered befre yu can use the prduct. Wrkstatin licensing Netwrked licensing A license r set f licenses is tied t a particular wrkstatin. The prduct can nly be used n that wrkstatin. Netwrked licenses are administered and distributed by a central License Server (Embarcader License Center r Acress FLEXnet Publisher). There are tw types f netwrked licenses: Cncurrent and Netwrked Named User. With Cncurrent licensing, users n different machines take turns using licenses frm a shared pl. With Netwrked Named User licensing, licenses are pre-assigned t specific users setup n the license server's user list. Thse users are guaranteed t have licenses available any time. NOTE: Cncurrent licenses can be brrwed fr use withut a netwrk cnnectin. Fr details, see Online/Offline Mde and Cncurrent License Checkut. Similarly, if yu purchase an Embarcader prduct while n trial versin is active, yu will receive a serial number that must be registered during installatin. 1. Start the installatin. An Embarcader License Registratin dialg appears. 2. Cpy the serial number frm the and paste it in the Serial Number field. 3. Enter yur Embarcader Develper Netwrk accunt credentials in the Lgin r and Passwrd fields. If yu have nt previusly created an EDN accunt r have frgtten yur passwrd, click I need t create... r I ve lst my passwrd. 4. Click Register. Yur activatin file shuld be dwnladed and installed autmatically. If this des nt happen, click the Truble Cnnecting? Try Web Registratin link and fllw the prmpts. If yu still have prblems, see Registering By Phne. Registering a Wrkstatin License After Applicatin Startup The fllwing instructins assume that yu have received a wrkstatin license by and that yu currently have a valid trial license. If yu did nt install a trial versin r the trial perid has expired, fllw the instructins in Registering a Trial r Wrkstatin License during Installatin instead. 1. On the Help menu, select Abut, and then n the dialg that pens, click Manage t pen a license manager dialg. 2. On the Serial menu, select Add. 3. Cpy the serial number frm the and paste it in the Add Serial Number dialg, and then click OK. Embarcader Technlgies 16

Yu will have t prvide: Develper Netwrk credentials The registratin cde displayed in the Embarcader License Registratin dialg that appears when yu start an unlicensed applicatin The prduct base license serial number The license serial numbers fr any additinal features yu have purchased. 18 Selecting a License Categry During Startup 5. Click the Imprt buttn t imprt the activatin file and when cmplete, click the Finish buttn. 6. If prmpted t restart the applicatin, click Yes. Registering a Netwrked License If yu wrk in an rganizatin using Netwrked licensing, an administratr, department head, r smene perfrming a similar functin will prvide yu with an activatin file. Once yu receive the file, save it t the license subflder f yur prduct s main installatin flder (typically C:\Prgram Files\Embarcader\<prduct><versin>\license\), then restart the applicatin. N additinal steps are necessary. Selecting a License Categry During Startup During startup, if multiple cncurrent license categries are available, yu are prmpted t select a categry t use fr this DBArtisan sessin. Multiple license categries can be set up t prvide differing feature access r access t different DBMS versins. Feature and DBMS versin access are typically distributed acrss multiple license categries t ptimize the use f a site s purchased licenses. Nte: This dialg als includes the ptin t remember yur selectin n subsequent startups. If yu select that ptin, yu can subsequently use the Select Licenses buttn n the Abut... dialg (Help > Abut) t select a different license. 19 Online/Offline Mde and Cncurrent License Checkut Online/Offline Mde and Cncurrent License Checkut Cncurrent licenses can be used in bth nline and ffline mdes. In nline mde, yu must have a cntinuus netwrk cnnectin t yur License Center. Licenses are checked ut n startup and checked back in n shutdwn. Yu can als use a license in ffline mde. When yu explicitly check ut a license fr ffline use, yu can use the license withut a cnnectin t yur License Center fr a specified duratin. This requires knwledge f the underlying bject dependencies s that these dependent bjects are rebuilt after the table has been recreated. DBArtisan prvides the ability t perfrm extended table alteratins by cnstructing an SQL script with the steps necessary t save ff the riginal data, create the new table, and ppulate it with the riginal data. Once these steps are cmplete, all dependent bjects are then rebuilt and permissins re-applied. 1. Frm the Explrer, Tables nde, select the table yu created in the previus example. 2.
