4 Sfety Notes Your Folder hs een designed nd tested to meet strict sfety requirements. These include sfety gency exmintions nd pprovl, s well s complince of estlished environmentl stndrds. Plese red the following instructions crefully efore operting the UNIVERSAL Folder. Refer to them s needed, to ensure the continued sfe opertion of your folder. Follow ll wrnings nd instructions tht re mrked on, or supplied with, your folder. Unplug this equipment from the wll outlet efore clening the exterior. Alwys use mterils tht re specificlly designted for the Universl Folder. Use of other mterils my result in poor performnce nd could crete hzrdous sitution. Do not use erosol cleners. Never use supplies or clening mterils for purposes other thn for which they re intended. Keep ll supplies nd mterils out of the rech of children. To void the risk of electric shock, contct your electricin to replce the outlet if you re unle to insert the plug into the outlet. Never use ground dpter plug to connect the folder to power source tht lcks ground connection terminl. This folder should e operted from the type of power source indicted on the mrking lel t the power source. If you re not sure of the type of power ville, consult your power compny. The power supply cord is the disconnecting device for this equipment. Mke sure tht the instlltion is ner the socket outlet nd tht it is esily ccessile. Do not llow nything to rest on the power cord. Do not locte the folder where someone will step on the cord. Never spill liquid of ny kind on the folder. Never remove ny covers or gurds tht require tool for removl. There re no res within these covers tht cn e serviced y the opertor. Never ttempt ny mintennce function tht is not specified in this opertor mnul. Never disle ny interlock switches. This equipment is designed to prevent opertor ccess to unsfe res. The covers, the gurds, nd the interlock switches re provided to ensure tht the system will not operte with the covers open. Under the following conditions, unplug the Folder from the wll outlet nd refer ll servicing to qulified service personnel: When the power cord is dmged or fryed If liquid hs een spilled into the product If the folder hs een exposed to rin or wter If the folder is producing unusul noises or odors If the folder or the cinet hs een dmged If you need dditionl sfety informtion concerning the folder or XEROX supplied mterils, cll your uthorized XEROX deler. 5 Folder Overview Reference Informtion To help you understnd the Universl Folder, some of the commonly used terms re explined elow. Folded Print Dimensions () Fn Fold This is the first ccordion fold. () Cross Fold This is the second fold nd it is t right ngle to the first fold. Pper tht does not meet this specifiction will result in poor folding performnce nd n incresed occurrence of jms. Feeding direction All non-bond (ordinry pper) Medi delivered y the printer will not e folded, ut it will e utomticlly ypssed nd stcked on the ridge. Mylr or Polyester Film should not e llowed to enter the folder. This will cuse jm nd my result in equipment dmge. The numer nd plcement of folds is sed on the type of fold selected nd the pper size. 6 Printing The prints exit from the printer in two different wys. The term 'leding' is used for the print edge tht exits the printer into the Bridge: LEL (Long Edge Leding) SEL (Short Edge Leding) Feeding After the Bridge Trnsport (with or without rottion), the copy will e fed into the folder in two wys. The term 'feeding' is used for when the print exits the ridge nd goes into the folder: The 'C'/A2 size print exits the printer Long Edge Leding nd with the optionl rottion. It enters the Folder with Short Edge Feeding. This is the only exmple where distinction etween leding nd feeding is importnt. LEF (Long Edge Feeding) SEF (Short Edge Feeding) Title Block Input Position The Title lock cn e locted in four different corners of the print, s shown in the illustrtion elow. The Title lock position numer is lwys reltive to the feeding direction, which is indicted y the gry rrow. These two symols will e used throughout this mnul to indicte where the Title lock position is, nd where it is necessry to locte the Title lock to otin the correct folding opertion. This will help you to understnd the opertion of the Folder. 7 Folded Pckge Output Orienttion The Title lock Input Position will define the Folded Pckge Output Orienttion. All prints entering the folder with the Title lock in positions 1 nd 2 will e delivered in the output in with the title pge Fce Down. Output Style The folder folds ll prints into n A/A4 size where the Title lock ppers ligned to the shortest edge of the folded pckge (1) or ligned to the longest edge of the folded pckge (2). 15 Operting Hints Before printing, e sure tht: The medi rolls re positioned correctly in the center of the IOT. The led edges on the pper rolls re stright. If necessry, trim the edge. The doors re not opened, nd tht the folding progrm on the folder is not chnged during folding. The ridge is in the correct operting position. The ridge must e fully down. Folding Hints THE 88XX FOLDER FOLDS ONLY PRINTS DELIVERED FROM RECOGNIZED ROLLS. REFER TO Mnul Feed Procedure SUBMENU FOR A LIST OF SUPPORTED ROLLS Sizes The 88XX Series Folder processes nerly ll sizes with ll folding styles. However, some folding styles require, for etter result, prticulr size. Other folding styles only work with prticulr kind of style, s descried elow. Afnor nd French Styles cn e used with documents ISO, Afnor, nd French. To otin perfect Afnor folded print, use only Afnor sizes with perfect dimensions (±2mm). Ericsson style cn e used with ISO nd Ericsson sizes. To otin perfect Ericsson folded print, use only Ericsson sizes. Wllet 11 style cn e used with Ansi nd Architecturl size. To otin perfect Wllet 11 folded print, use only Ansi sizes with perfect dimensions (±2mm). Wllet 12 styles cn e used with Ansi nd Architecturl sizes. To otin perfect Wllet 12 folded print, use only Architecturl sizes with perfect dimensions (±2mm). All the other styles could e used with ll kind of sizes except the Ericsson nd French sizes. Fce delivery When jo is creted, it could e sent to the folder with delivery Fce up or Fce Down. All the documents, with ll the folding progrms, cn e processed y the folder so tht they exit Fce Up or Down. Exceptions re the Ericsson nd 198 folding progrms. In order to crete correct jo Fce Up, exclude the style Ericsson nd the Lndscpe styles ecuse they produce folded prints lwys Fce Down. In order to crete correct jo Fce Down, exclude the style 198 ecuse it produces folded prints lwys Fce Up. Refer to the section Folding Using Host Or Scnner for complete description of jo mngement. 16 Numeric Control Pnel The following explins the mnul selection of fetures/functions of the Folder using the Stndrd nd Alphnumeric Control Pnels. For network ccess of these functions, refer to AccXES Client Tools User Guide, or the We Printer Mnger Tool User Guide. The Numeric Control Pnel is the mnul mens used to communicte with the Folder. Locted on the ck pnel of the Folder, it contins red four-digit disply, three uttons nd two LED indictors nd is ville on ll folders. [See the 8825/8830 Printer Opertor Mnul for Finishing Communictions using the Printer User Interfce.] The uttons re used y the Opertor to select the folding progrm nd y Service while in the dignostic mode. The red four-digit disply will indicte Fold Progrm Codes nd the Error/Alrm Codes, s shown in the illustrtion. XXXX Scroll Keys Enter key The two LED, (red nd green) show the sttus of the folder: The red LED indictes when the folder is usy, when it is not redy to fold, when it is performing self-test, or tht the lrm sttus is under network control The green LED indictes tht the folder is idle nd redy to fold. Alphnumeric Control Pnel The Alphnumeric Control Pnel is the mnul mens used to communicte with the folder, nd is stndrd when the folder is used with the 8855 Printer. This control pnel, which is locted on the left front side of the folder, consists of n lphnumeric disply nd six different uttons. Reset key: Performs POST (Power On Self Test) if it is kept pressed for less thn two seconds Performs Mnul Ejecting Procedure if kept pressed for more thn two seconds. Its ctivtion enles rollers to eject pper jms. To exit, wit five seconds nd then keep the Reset key pressed for less thn two seconds. Scroll Keys Enter Key Puse toggle key. 17 Switching on the Folder At power on, the Firmwre relese will e displyed for two seconds: s code in the Numeric Control Pnel [RX.XX ] s messge in the Alphnumeric Control Pnel REV. 18 Opertor Menu Without ny selection in the AccXES Client Tools, the setting in this menu re considered s defult for the folding process. To ccess the first level of the menu structure, set the Folder in Puse Mode. Press the Puse key on the Alphnumeric Control Pnel, or press Enter in the Numeric Control Pnel. Use the scroll keys to select the opertor sumenu. The service sumenu is protected y pssword. Press the Enter key to enter the selected menu nd to ccess the second level of the structure. Here the defult option will e displyed with deciml point locted fter the finl numer in the Numeric Control Pnel disply [u1.06.]. On the Alphnumeric Control Pnel, the selection flshes. Use the scroll keys to select the desired option. The following pges show complete description of these sumenus. If the Folder does not support prticulr function, then this selection will not e llowed. 20 Cross Progrms Sumenu Use this sumenu to select the cross folding options. 1. Go to the Cross Progrms sumenu in the Numeric Control Pnel in the Alphnumeric Control Pnel u OPERATOR U2 CROSS PROGRAMS 2. The defult option is shown : in the Numeric Control Pnel u 20 2 in the Alphnumeric Control Pnel STANDARD Lower right dot flshing The sme print could e folded with the sme fn progrm with the option EQUAL [ u2.02 ] ecuse the folder utomticlly divides the width of the print to otin equl pnels. 11,3-12 The purpose of the EQUAL option is to otin folded print more flt nd folded with one less cross fold. Tht is why it does not work with ll sizes nd styles. Only when few millimeters of the cross folding depth is modified, is it possile to otin folded print without prefolds. The EQUAL option does not produce results with Ericsson, Afnor, French nd Wllets progrm (some of these styles lredy hve n output equl). Besides, it is possile to fold equl pnels only with some kind of pper rolls. ROLL UNI/DIN fold depth ANSI/ARCH fold depth 914 (36 ) Use the scroll key to select the desired option nd press Enter to select it. With selecting STANDARD [ u2.01 ], for exmple, 6-7 n E size print (36 x48 ) with progrm 8.5 x11 will e folded with n output dimension 8.5 x11. The length of ech pnel () is not equl. 11 Selecting CROSS OFF [ u2.03 ] will ypss the Cross Folder. The print will e fn folded only nd stcked in the Rer Print Try. To ctivte the cross folder fter Cross Off selection, select one of the two options: Stndrd or Equl. 4. Select EXIT [ u2.00 ] to rise one level. 21 Fce Sumenu Use this menu to otin the folded prints Fce Up or Fce Down in the print try. 1. Go to the Fce sumenu. in the Numeric Control Pnel in the Alphnumeric Control Pnel u OPERATOR Selecting DON T CARE [U3.03] tells the folder to ccept every print with ll possile title lock loctions nd orienttions LEF/SEF. With this selection the output orienttion could e either Fce Up or Fce Down. 4. Select EXIT [ u3.00 ] to rise one level. 5. Turn off the folder nd then switch it on to ctivte the modifiction. U3 FACE Fce u 3 2. The defult option is shown : in the Numeric Control Pnel u30 1 Lower right dot in the Alphnumeric Control Pnel FACE UP flshing 3. 28 Folding Using Host Or Scnner Before the folding process cn egin, the Folder must receive informtion tht defines the Size, the Title lock loction, the Output Style, nd the selection of the other ville finishing options. Under norml opertion, the RTL driver, the ADI driver, or the AccXES Client Tools provide this informtion utomticlly through seril communictions interfce. Refer to the XES Synergix 8825/8830/8850 Controller Setup Mnul for Firmwre x.x for more detil on how it works. All the selections mde on ny of the drivers listed ove, will override the selection mde on the We Printer Mnger Tool (We PMT). The selections mde on the We PMT, without modifiction from the drivers, will override the selection mde on the folder control pnel. If the selection of the Title Block position is not specified through the driver, nd no defult is selected in the We PMT, the folder considers the setting of its control pnel. The selections mde on the folder control pnel re considered lso when working in the Mnul Feed Procedure, or when using the driver some finishing option is set s defult. Refer to the Advnced Settings section. In the AccXES Client Tools section, some folding procedures re explined in detil. How to Recognize Title Block nd Document Orienttion Ech document hs to follow printer or folder rules efore it is printed. The AccXES Controller mnges the orienttion of the document nd pplies the printer rules (like type of medi roll loded) nd folder rules (like preferred feeding direction, such s Short Edge Feeding). For exmple, the E/A0 re lndscpe documents with the Title Block in the Lower Right corner. They re printed with 90 rottion y the AccXES controller, in short edge feeding, with the title lock corner 4. The selection of the Title Block field on ACT must e Lower Right ecuse this is the originl orienttion of the document. TIP: To view print with the originl orienttion, print the document reduced y 90% (type 10% on ACT), selecting roll size igger thn the reduced document. Select Folding Method Bypss nd fix rottion to 0 degrees. This step enles the AccXES Controller to print the document following ny rules. Open the document to e printed nd folded. 2. Access to the Print menu, which is usully inside the file pulldown menu. Select the 88XX Printer. 3. Click on the Property utton to set the options for the 88XX Printer. 4. Select the Jo t. Go to the Finishing field: Select Folder Bypss to print the document without finishing. Select Printer Defult. Select User Defined to mnully choose the folding prmeters. Click on the Settings utton. Choose the Folding Progrm. Use the checkox Cross to ctivte/dectivte the Cross Folder. The Mrgin checkox lso does not ffect the folder working. The inding mrgin depends on the Folding Method selected. Select folding method , , or to otin folded print with the inding mrgin. With this informtion, the AccXES will provide correct document feeding orienttion to stisfy the folding requests. Choose Sort Bin to select where the folded print must e stcked. The selection defult lets the folder use the setting defined in the Stcker Sumenu, which is in the folder control pnel. How to Recognise the Title Block Loction The picture elow shows the document feeding orienttion. The correct selection in the picture is Upper Right. To void misunderstnding, the opertor is helped y lel showing smple document lid on the Scnner. Do not e concerned out the inversion of Left nd Right ecuse the lel considers document turned upside down. Simply ly the document on the Scnner in the correct position (upside down) nd look on the lel to understnd which will e the title lock loction. (refer to the XES Synergix 8825/8830/8850/8855 Digitl Solution User Guide for detils). A good wy to crete the templtes is to refer to the stndrd Title Block Loction numering s shown in the picture elow. Upper Upper 4 1 Rigth Left With these four templtes it is esy to mnge different sizes tht hve to e folded with the sme folding method. Depending on the size orienttion, the only thing to do is to recll the templte with the proper Title Block Loction. Using this procedure, is possile to understnd how the ntive ppliction produces the print files nd cretes files tht respect the desired orienttion. How to orgnize the jos When using the ACT, the opertor hs to mnge lots of files. Tht is why it is importnt for the opertor to hve the files nmed so tht some finishing informtion is esy to understnd from the file nmes without hving to open the files to view the imge orienttion. People who print the files from the document ntive ppliction, could supply ll the necessry informtions in the file nme. For exmple if the document is n A1 size Lndscpe with Title Block in the Lower Right corner: A1 SIZE LANDSCAPE The file nme could e: DOCUMENT NAME - A1 LANDSCAPE LOWER RIGHT.XXX or shortened DOCUMENT NAME-A1 LAND LR.XXX This wy the opertor with the ACT cn set ll the finishing requirements simply y looking t the file nme. Consider tht sometimes the orienttion on the screen does not correspond to the orienttion of the file printed. Refer to the How to Recognize Title Block nd Document Orienttion prgrph to understnd how your ppliction produces the files. Then supply the originl orienttion with the originl position of the Title Block. Fce Up or Down - dvntges nd disdvntges A print jo could e folded nd stcked Fce Up or Down depending on the opertor choice. These two selections hve dvntges nd disdvntges: Fce Up: Higher folding qulity. Visile Title Block in the folded print sket. Need to reverse print order to otin the jo sorted correctly. Go to Fce Sumenu nd select the fce orienttion. The entire jo will e delivered into the in with the specified orienttion. The sme jo could e sumitted oth Fce Down nd Fce Up; if some Folding Styles,or some size, do not support the selected fce orienttion it will e utomticlly folded in the other orienttion. Refer to the Prolem Solving tle to trouleshoot fce orienttion prolems. For exmple, the folding style 198 only supports Fce up. It will e folded fce up even if it is included in jo fce down Rememer tht selecting Fce Up is necessry to revert the print order to otin folded jo sorted in the correct wy. 37 Suspending the Print Queue When the system is printing nd folding jo, it is possile to suspend the print queue s follows: The folder control pnel shows the progrm in use (for exmple 185 [ p.01 ] ). Press the Puse key on the Alphnumeric Control Pnel or the Enter key on the Numeric Control Pnel. The displys show PAUSE [ pus ], nd the print queue stops. Pressing the sme key gin, the print queue will restrt. To do this, select the Printer Queue t in ACT. Select the second toolr utton to updte the print que sttus. Select (highlight) ll of the listed files. Select the Delete toolr utton to remove them from the print queue. The keys Puse nd Enter mentioned ove, suspend the queue only if the system is working nd the disply shows the progrm selected. When the system is in Idle sttus, these keys hve their norml function which is to set the system in Puse Mode in order to enter the Opertor menu. It could e useful to suspend the queue for mny resons: if jo consisting of lot of prints is wrong, suspending the jo llows the opertor to delete the entire queue using the ACT. 41 Introduction to Jm Clernce Procedures Sfety Bridge Lever A series of corrective procedures re to e used y the opertor to cler jms. Note: If jm occurs during multi-print procedure, the ridge flp goes up nd the folder goes into the Puse Mode. This opertion is covered fully in the Puse Mode Procedure. The following pges will give you the detiled steps to tke when you re clering jm. The folder will inform the opertor where the jm is locted y using n lrm tone nd the messge disply: A single tone if jm occurs in the Bridge A doule tone if the jm occurs in the Fn Section A triple tone if the jm occurs in the Cross Section To void lrger jms, perform the Automted Eject Procedure. Keep the Reset key pressed for more thn two seconds. Then when the reset key is pressed, the rollers strt. If the reset key is pressed for less thn two seconds, fter five-second dely, the folder exits the Mnul Eject Procedure. If the Mnul Eject Procedure does not succeed in removing the pper jm, follow the procedures on the following pges. To tilt up the ridge: 1. Disengge the Bridge Hook (8855 only). 2. Using the hndle, tilt up the ridge, ensuring tht the lever lowers down into the slot under control. 3. Check tht the sfety lever is ltched in the correct position. BE CAREFUL If the sfety lever is not ltched in the correct position, the ridge could drop down nd cuse serious dmge to the mchine or to the opertor. To let down the ridge: 1.
