For instructions on instlltion, refer to "Instll the Softwre nd the Electronic Mnuls" on pge. (In Windows, select Instll Individul Softwre in the Setup Menu window to instll Medi Configurtion Tool only.) 2 Preprtions Prepre the printer for use y instlling it nd connecting the power cord. Instll the printer. You cn use the following two methods for instlling the printer. Instll with the optionl stnd Assemle the stnd nd instll the printer referring to the Printer Stnd Setup Guide included with the stnd. After instlltion, proceed to step. Remove the printer from the ox nd remove the pcking mterils from the top of the printer. At lest three people re needed to lift the printer y its crrying hndles (), locted under its right nd left ends, nd to plce it on tle or other flt surfce. The printer weighs kg nd requires t lest three people to lift it y its crrying hndles () under its right nd left ends. Instll without stnd on tle Proceed to step. The stnd is stndrd ccessory in some loctions. Remove ll the ornge tpe from the roll feed unit (). Remove the roll holder () from the roll feed unit () nd remove the protective mterils nd ll the ornge tpe on the two holder stoppers (c). c Remove the ornge tpe on the top cover () nd the ejection guide () nd ll the pcking mterils. After removing the ornge tpe nd pcking mteril from inside the ejection guide (), rettch it. Lift the elt stopper () from the crrige shft () nd pull it towrds you to remove it. The elt stopper is used when trnsporting the printer. Keep the elt stopper fter removing it, in cse the printer needs to e moved gin. Close the top cover. 8 Plug the power cord into the power supply connector on the ck of the printer nd plug the other end into n electric outlet.

3 Instll the Printheds Instll oth printheds. Press the Power utton to turn on the printer. When the following screen ppers, use the nd keys to select lnguge nd press OK. Select your locl time zone nd press OK. Pull the printhed fixer lever forwrd ll the wy to open it completely. Lift the printhed fixer cover to open it fully. Hold the printhed y the grips () s you remove it from the pouch. 8 Remove the ornge protective prt (). To remove the other ornge protective prt (), push the grip (c) s you remove it. c 9 Insert the printhed into the crrige () with the ink holes () up nd fcing the front of the printer s shown in the figure. Crefully push the printhed firmly into the crrige (), ensuring tht the prts tht were covered y the protective prts do not touch the crrige (). Never touch the prts covered y the protective prts. Doing so my dmge the printhed nd ffect printing qulity. The printhed contins ink, so e creful not to spill it once the protective prts re removed. Do not rettch the protective prts fter removing them. Dispose of these mterils ccording to locl regultions.. 0 Pull the printhed fixer cover down towrd the front to lock the printhed in plce. Press the printhed fixer lever inwrds until it clicks into plce. Repet steps to to instll the second printhed set. Close the top cover. The disply screen shows Open tnk cover nd instll ll ink tnks. Instll the ink tnks.

4 Instll the Ink Tnks Instll the eight ink tnks. Open the ink tnk cover. While pressing the stopper of the ink tnk lock lever inwrds, open the ink tnk lock lever upwrds. Shke ech ink tnk gently to 8 times efore opening its pouch. Filure to shke the ink tnks my result in reduced print qulity ecuse ink ingredients hve settled on the ottom of the tnk. Open the pouch nd remove the ink tnk. Insert the ink tnk into the holder oriented s shown, with the ink holes down. Close the ink tnk lock lever until it clicks into plce. Mke sure the ink lmp lights red. Never touch the ink holes () or metl contcts (). Touching these prts my cuse stins, dmge the ink tnk, nd ffect print qulity. Avoid dropping the ink tnk fter removing it from the pouch. Otherwise, ink my lek nd cuse stins. Do not remove ink tnks to shke them fter they hve een instlled. Doing so my cuse ink to spill. If the ink tnk does not fit in the holder, mke sure the color of the ink tnk lock lever mtches the color of the ink tnk, nd check the orienttion of the ink tnk. If the ink lmp is not lit, repet steps,, nd. Repet steps to to instll ech of the ink tnks. Close the ink tnk cover. After ll the ink tnks hve een instlled, the printer utomticlly strts chrging the system with ink. Chrging the system with ink for the first time tkes out 0 minutes. Instll the softwre nd electronic mnuls on your computer while chrging the system with ink. If you instll the softwre nd electronic mnuls lter, wit until the system is chrged with ink, nd then proceed to "Lod Pper to Adjust the Printheds" on pge. During printer instlltion, ink fills the system etween the ink tnks nd printheds. The ink level quickly flls to 80% (0% for strter ink tnks), this is norml.

5 Instll the Softwre nd the Electronic Mnuls Windows You cn print from Windows vi USB or TCP/IP (network) connections. The instlltion procedure vries depending on how your printer is connected. Instll the softwre nd the electronic mnuls y following instructions elow. If you connect the printer with USB cle, refer to "For USB connections" on pge. If you connect the printer with TCP/IP (network), refer to "For TCP/IP (network) connections" on pge. Instlltion requires dministrtive rights (such s those of Administrtor). Be sure to log on using n ccount with dministrtive rights efore instlltion. The following screen my e displyed during instlltion depending on the security settings of your computer. Select Dectivte the lock nd click Next. <Comptile Operting Systems> Windows, Windows Vist, Windows Server 008 R, Windows Server 008, Windows Server 00 R, Windows Server 00, Windows XP For the Windows OS, use the ltest version of Service Pck. For USB connections Instll the softwre Use USB cle tht conforms to the Hi-Speed USB specifiction. Connect the USB cle to the printer ccording to the on-screen instructions during instlltion of the printer driver. If you connect the USB cle efore instlling the printer driver, the printer driver my not e instlled correctly. After mking sure the printer is not connected to the computer, turn the computer on. Insert the provided User Softwre CD-ROM for your operting system in the CD-ROM drive. In the Setup Menu window, click Instll Printer Driver. To choose different lnguge, click Lnguge. Select the softwre to instll in the Instlltion List window, nd then click Next. Point the mouse pointer t softwre nme to disply summry of the softwre. In the Select Country or Region of Use window, select the country or region of After reding the license greement, click Yes. use nd click Next. If you cn gree Extended Survey Progrm, click Agree. If you cn respond to the questionnire, click Next. 8 Confirm your questionnire responses, nd click Next.

6 9 In the Printer Selection window, select The printer is connected directly to computer nd click Next. 0 In the Printer Instlltion dilog ox, select Instll with USB Connection, nd click Next. When the following dilog ox is displyed, mke sure the printer is on nd use the USB cle to connect the printer to the computer. If wrning messge is displyed, click Retry to try gin. After reviewing the instlltion results in the Complete Instlltion window, click Next. In the Finish window, select Restrt my computer now nd click Restrt. Be creful not to insert the USB cle into the Ethernet port. Instll the electronic mnuls When you restrt the computer, the softwre settings re enled. The softwre instlltion is now completed. An ipfxxxx Support desktop icon is creted fter instlltion. (ipfxxxx represents the printer model.) When the Instll User Mnul dilog ox is displyed, insert the provided User Mnuls CD-ROM in the CD-ROM drive nd click Next. Click Next. Next, instll the electronic mnuls. After reding the softwre license greement, select I ccept the terms of the license greement, nd then click Next. 8 Click Instll. The instlltion process egins. 9 After instlltion is completed, click Finish. The electronic mnuls instlltion is now completed. 0 Doule-click the ipfxxxx Support desktop icon. When clicking the User's Mnul utton, the User's Guide will e opened nd clicking the Pper Reference Guide utton, the Pper Reference Guide will e opened.

7 For TCP/IP (network) connections Instll the softwre If the printer is lredy connected to the network, confirm the IP ddress ssigned to the printer. Ask your network dministrtor for further informtion. Use the LAN cle to connect the LAN port on the ck of the printer to the hu port. If the printer is lredy connected to the network, proceed to step. Mke sure the printer is on. Turn the computer on nd insert the provided User Softwre CD-ROM for your operting system in the CD-ROM drive. If the printer is on, the Link indictor under the LAN port lights. 000Bse-T connection 00Bse-TX connection 0Bse-T connection The top nd ottom LEDs light. The LED on the ottom lights green. The LED on the top lights ornge. Perform procedures of steps -8 on pge. In the Printer Selection window, select The printer is connected to computers in network nd click Next. When serching the ville printer on the network After reding the precutions in the Getting Redy window, select Find ville printers in the network nd click Next. Proceed to step. When entering the printer's IP ddress mnully After reding the precutions in the Getting Redy window, select Specify the IP ddress of ville printers in the network nd click Next. Proceed to step 8. When serching the ville printer on the network Aville printers re listed in the Serch Results window. Select printer from the list on either their IPv Devices or IPv Devices ts nd click Next. The IPv Devices t is displyed in Windows, Windows Vist, Windows Server 008 R, nd Windows Server 008. If the printer you wnt to use is not displyed in the list on the IPv Devices t, connect vi IPv insted. If the printer you wnt to use is not displyed in the list of printers on the IPv Devices t, refer to "When the printer cnnot e found on the network" on pge 8 to setup nd configure n IP ddress for the printer. Select the printer with the IP Address Sttus is Aville, nd then click Next to strt instlltion. Proceed to step 9 in this cse. When serching the ville printer on the network In the Method of Configuring IP Addresses window, enter the IP ddress in Configure mnully, under Method of Configuring IP Addresses. Click Instll to strt the instlltion process. Also enter your preferred nme for the printer in Device Nme nd the instlltion loction in Printer Loction under Informtion Aout Printer to Configure, s desired. The instlltion process egins. Proceed to step 9. If you use DHCP server for utomtic ssignment of the printer's IP ddress, printing my no longer e possile fter the printer is turned off nd on. This is ecuse different IP ddress hs een ssigned. When using DHCP server functions, consult your network dministrtor nd configure the settings in one of the following wys: Configure the setting for dynmic DNS updting In the printer menu, either set DNS Dync updte to On, or ctivte the setting Enle DNS Dynmic Updte in RemoteUI. ( "Menu Settings", User's Guide) ( "Configuring the Printer's TCP/IP Network Settings", User's Guide) Configure the setting for ssignment of the sme IP ddress ech time the printer strts up

8 8 When entering the printer's IP ddress mnully In the IP Address Specifiction window, select either IPv Address or IPv Address to enter the printer's IP ddress nd click Instll. The instlltion process egins. Ask your network dministrtor for the IP ddress, s needed. IPv Address is displyed in Windows, Windows Vist, Windows Server 008 R, nd Windows Server After reviewing the instlltion results in the Complete Instlltion window, click Next. Instll the electronic mnuls 0 In the Finish window, select Restrt my computer now nd click Restrt. When you restrt the computer, the softwre settings re enled. The softwre instlltion is now completed. An ipfxxxx Support desktop icon is creted fter instlltion. (ipfxxxx represents the printer model.) Next, follow steps - on pge to instll the electronic mnuls. When the printer cnnot e found on the network If your printer cnnot e found when connecting to the network for the first time, setup n IP ddress for the printer nd then configure it on the printer. On the t selection screen of the control pnel, press the nd keys to select (settings/dj. t) nd press OK. Use the nd keys to select Interfce Setup nd press OK. When ink fills the system for the first time, fter printhed djustment is finished, specify the IP ddress on the printer's control pnel. When ink fills the system for the first time, do not operte the printer until printhed djustment is finished. No Pper Loded OK:Setting/Adj. Menu Mint. crt. Remining Amount Use the nd keys to select TCP/IP nd press OK. Enter the IP ddress. Nvigte through the following menus using the nd keys on the control pnel.. Select IPv nd press OK.. Select IPv Settings nd press OK.. Select IP Address nd press OK.. Enter the IP ddress. How to enter IP ddresses. Press the nd keys to select field for inputting vlues.. Use the nd keys to input vlues. Pressing increses the vlue y one. Pressing decreses the vlue y one. Holding down either the or keys continully increses or decreses the vlue.. Press OK once you hve finished. Press Press Menu. OK on the registrtion confirmtion messge tht ppers. The IP ddress is set on the printer. Next, restrt instlltion of the printer driver. In the Serch Results window, select Specify the IP ddress of ville printers in the network nd click Next. When the IP Address Specifictions window ppers, follow the instructions of "When entering the printer's IP ddress mnully" in step 8 to on pge 8 to complete the instlltion of the softwre nd electronic mnuls. If the following screen ppers, click Retry nd select Specify the IP ddress of ville printers in the network on the next screen tht ppers. 8

9 Instll the softwre Mcintosh You cn print from Mcintosh vi USB or network connections such s Bonjour or IP. Instll the softwre nd electronic mnuls depending on your computer environment. <Comptile Operting Systems> Mc OS X 0.. or lter If you instll the softwre, log onto the computer s n dministrtor. After mking sure the printer is not connected to the computer, turn the computer on. Insert the provided User Softwre CD-ROM for your operting system in the CD-ROM drive. On the desktop, doule-click the CD-ROM icon nd then the ipf Printer Setup icon. If the following screen is displyed, enter the user nme nd pssword of user Select the softwre to instll, nd click with dministrtive rights nd click OK. Next. Select the country or region where the printer will e used nd click Next. Click Next. After reding the softwre license greement, click Continue. 8 Click Agree. 9 Click Continue. 0 Exit other pplictions nd click Continue. Items selected in step re instlled. If you cn gree Extended Survey Progrm, click Agree. If you cn respond to the questionnire, click Next. Confirm your questionnire responses, nd click Next. Click OK. 9

10 Click Quit. The softwre instlltion is now completed. Next, connect the printer to the computer. Connect the printer to computer Mke sure tht the printer is on, nd then connect the printer to the computer or the network with cle. For USB connections For network connections Be creful not to insert the USB cle into the Ethernet port. Select the printer to setup Click Next. 8 Select the printer to setup nd click Next. 9 After entering your preferred nme for the printer in Printer Nme nd the instlltion loction in Loction, click Register. To register the printer y entering its IP ddress, click Registering IP Address. Enter the IP ddress of the desired printer in IP Address nd click Next. 0 Click Finish. Click OK. The following screen is displyed nd pper informtion is updted. When the pper informtion hs een updted, the screen is no longer displyed. To register nother printer, click Continue Registrtion, nd repet steps to 9. If the sme model of printer is lredy registered on the computer, screen is displyed for printer selection. Select the desired printer nd click Next. Instll the electronic mnuls Next, instll the electronic mnuls. Insert the provided User Mnuls CD-ROM in the CD-ROM drive. Doule-click the ipfxxxx Mnul Instller icon on the CD-ROM. (ipfxxxx represents the printer model.) Select the region where the printer will e used nd the lnguge of the user mnul to instll, nd then click OK. Check the messge nd click Continue. After reding the softwre license greement, click Continue. 8 Click Agree. 0

11 9 Click Instll. 0 After instlltion is completed, click Quit. Click the ipf Support icon in the Dock. The electronic mnuls instlltion is now completed. When clicking the User's Mnul utton, the User's Guide will e opened nd clicking the Pper Reference Guide utton, the Pper Reference Guide will e opened. Lod Pper to Adjust the Printheds As Lod the provided smple pper nd djust the Printheds. the system is chrged for the first time, Remove the -inch pper holder stopper Select type of pper for printhed dj. () nd the -inch pper holder stopper () ppers on the disply screen. Use the from the roll holder. nd keys to select Roll Pper nd then press OK. Lift the end of the pper roll nd slide it onto the roll holder from the left. Insert the roll holder ll the wy until the flnge () on the roll holder is securely ginst the roll of pper. If it is not in firm contct with the pper, feeding prolems my occur. We recommend wering clen cotton gloves when hndling rolls of pper to protect the printle surfce. Slide the holder stopper for the -inch pper core onto the roll holder from the left until its flnge () is ginst the roll of pper. Open the roll feed unit cover. Hold the flnge () of the roll holder nd lign its xis with the left nd right guide grooves () in the roll holder slots. Mke sure tht the colors of the guide grooves nd the roll holder xis re the sme efore loding the pper. c c Cution Be creful to not pinch your fingers etween the xis of the roll holder (c) nd the guide grooves () when loding pper.

12 Insert the edge of the pper into the pper feed slot () nd feed it until you her the pper strt to feed. The pper strts feeding. 8 The screen for selecting the pper type is shown on the disply screen. Press or to select the type of pper loded in the printer. Select Coted Pper nd press OK. Then from the menu tht ppers, select HW Coted nd press OK. The printhed position djustment strts utomticlly. Adjusting the position of the printhed tkes out minutes. When the printhed djustment is finished, Redy ppers on the disply screen. Printer setup is now complete. To enhnce printing qulity when printing fine lines/text or photos t high precision, see "Enhncing Printing Qulity" in the User's Guide. Close the roll feed unit cover. After you hve finished setting up the printer nd instlling the softwre nd electronic mnuls, we recommend performing color clirtion. Color clirtion compenstes for chnges in color from individul vrition nd ged deteriortion of the printer, ensuring etter color consistency. Perform color clirtion using the provided Smple Pper, which is comptile with this process. For informtion on other comptile pper, refer to the Pper Reference Guide. During color clirtion, on the control pnel's disply screen, open (settings/dj. t) nd select Adjust Printer - Clirtion - Auto Adjust. The process of color clirtion tkes out minutes. If you use the color clirtion for color djustment, it is useful to set the function to notify the execution period (Prompt Execution). For detils of the function, refer to "Using Color Clirtion for Color Adjustment" in User's Guide. When the setup is completed, refer to the vrious mnuls to use the printer. Refer to "The Mnuls Supplied with This Printer" on pge. Responding to Messges Error messges my pper on the disply screen of the control pnel during printer instlltion. If so, it my not indicte prolem with the printer, nd the issue my e esily resolved. Common messges nd the cuses re listed here with corrective ctions. To respond to error messges other thn these, refer to the Bsic Guide (). For detils of opertion procedure, refer to User's Guide instlled in "Instll the Softwre nd the Electronic Mnuls". Messge Cuse Corrective Action Pper loded crooked. The loded pper is crooked. Adjust the pper. (see steps -8 on pge ) No mintennce crtridge instlled. The mintennce crtridge is not connected. Instll the mintennce crtridge correctly. Roll pper is not securely in contct with roll holder. Hrdwre error. xxxxxxxx-xxxx (x represents letter or numer) ERROR Exxx-xxxx (x represents letter or numer) The roll of pper ws not firmly pushed ginst the roll holder when the pper ws loded. The elt stopper or the tpe inside the top cover hs not een removed. You my hve encountered n error tht cnnot e resolved. You my hve encountered n error tht cnnot e resolved. Relod the roll of pper. (see steps - on pge -) Turn off the power, open the top cover, nd remove the tpe nd the elt stopper, then turn the power on. Turn off the printer nd wit t lest three seconds efore restoring the power. If the messge ppers gin, write down the error code nd messge, turn off the printer, nd contct your Cnon deler for ssistnce.
