1 RECORDING AUDIO ON THE IPAD (with the ZOOM IQ7 mic) PREPARE THE IPAD Pwer the unit ON using the small buttn n the tp right side. If the screen ges dark, press the HOME buttn n the bttm nce t turn it back n, then swipe the arrw at the bttm t the right. Turn the vlume all the way up. Nw cnnect t WiFi: tap the SETTINGS app in the rws f icns. Tap the Wi-Fi setting. Make sure the Wi-Fi is turned n (slide the blue buttn t the right, if nt), and press the AirOrangeX selectin. Accept any security warning, and lg in with yur NetID if prmpted. Finally, exit the SETTINGS app by pressing the HOME buttn nce, at the bttm. Plug yur earphnes int the ipad, NOT THE ZOOM mic jack. Again, make sure the vlume n the ipad is turned all the way up. Plug the ZOOM mic int the lightning cnnectr f the ipad; it shuld rient like the diagram indicates. Set the recrd dial t abut 6. Best practice is t hld the ipad s the mic is facing yur subject, 6-12 inches away frm the interviewee s face. Maybe yu ll want t make yurself a DIY mic stand using the template at the end f this dcument. Yu CAN mnitr recrdings using this free app: Vice Recrd Pr 7 (VRP 7.) We recmmend using this. Tap the APP STORE icn t cnnect, then search fr this app, and dwnlad fr free. Allw the app t access the micrphne. 1. Vice Recrd Pr 7 app Tap n the GEAR icn in the middle-right hand crner f the app Press SETTINGS>ADVANCED RECORDING Change RECORD ENGINE t ADVANCED, then press LEFT-ARROW t return t SETTINGS G int Settings Recrding> shift Keep Screen On t ON. Nw exit RECORDING & SETTINGS. Nw, tap the GEAR icn again>calibrate AUDIO ENGINE, and say YES t recalibrate T prepare t recrd, press the single red dt RECORD buttn (suggest yu say NO if prmpted t allw ntificatins?. The next chices will becme yur defaults, s yu shuld nly have t d this nce: At the bttm, in the PRESET tab, select HIGH Recrd Quality In the ADVANCED tab, select: SAMPLE RATE: 44,100

2 BIT RATE: 256 KPS BIT DEPTH: 16 BITS CHANNELS: STEREO Althugh the ld schl analg meters are kind f retr-cl, tapping a meter nce will change the meter t a mdern lk. Set yur recrd level by pressing LEVEL CHECK. Set the dial n the ZOOM mic gain t 6. Speak int the mic and make sure the sund meter is up clse t the -3 mark, trying nt t peak EVER int the RED. Turn the ZOOM mic knb up r dwn as needed t adjust the recrd level. Press DONE when finished setting the level. T recrd, press the red RECORD buttn. Yu can adjust the MIC GAIN during the interview as needed, using the ZOOM mic dial. Pressing the STOP buttn will stp the recrding. When it finishes recrding, yu ll see it listed BY DATE as a file in Vice Recrd Pr 7. T PLAY it back, just press the file yu wish t hear and click PLAY r press the triangle PLAY icn. GETTING AUDIO INTO THE BDJ COMPUTERS 1. Using Vice Recrd Pr 7 Lcate yurself at a PC r laptp, and pen any brwser. Make sure yur ipad is cnnected t AirOrangeX. In Vice Recrd Pr 7, select WiFi Dwnlad in the drpdwn list f ptins. Type the web address given t yu by Vice Recrd Pr 7 int the URL address bar f the brwser. Nte: in a crisis, yu can als exprt by ing small files t yurself (may require registering yur app), r exprting t SundClud (yu ll need t create a free accunt befrehand) Right-Click>SAVE LINK/TARGET AS n the dwnlad icn n the far right clumn t dwnlad the recrdings that yu need, making sure the file ends with the extensin.m4a Rename and save the files t yur prtable drive, s they will be able t be imprted int yur audi piece

3 Again, save the file t the flder yu have created n yur prtable drive fr this particular stry. FALLBACK PLANS If fr sme reasn yu can t get the WiFi Dwnlad t wrk: 1. tap n Send By t it t yurself. Send as an audi file as an attachment. 2. tap n Save T Sund Clud and exprt there (yu must create a free SundClud accunt first, and add yur lgin details under the SETUP tab) 3. tap n Save T Ggle Drive and sign in with yur Ggle accunt 4. tap n any ther ptin yu may have an accunt with (DROPBOX?) 5. tap n Send t FTP Server and exprt there.
