2 DMXter4 RDM softwre relese notes November 24,2009 Softwre V4.08 These notes re supplement to the V4.00 mnul. They re in ddition to chnges mde in versions V4.05 &V4.06. DMX A number of smll chnges hve been mde to the DMX fetures in this version. Most will not ffect the user. The <OFF> ( BACK) key is more fully implemented nd will generlly bump up one lyer in most menus. - The View on USB Terminl routine hs n improved disply. On mny terminl emultors the disply will now be in color. - Inter-pcket spcing now increments in 20us steps insted of 22us. This chnge ws mde to mke the timing steps more consistent nd to lower jitter. RDM - Added Sub Device support. - Added uto retry option on lost or bd pckets - Added Proxy Mngement fetures -Added optionl Get Qued Messges -Added support for DEVICE_RESET PID - When querying responder tht does not use slot, the DMX ddress is displyed s "NONE" RDM User Option menu hs been expnded nd now includes: - Identify ON / OFF - Retry to get lost or bd pcket OFF / 1x / 2x / 3x / 4x - Ignore wrnings during discovery YES /NO - Get Qued Messges OFF / GETs / ON - Interleve Null Strt code pckets with RDM pckets YES /NO - (in Advnced RDM) An option is dded tht ends the RDM response period by counting reply bytes insted of reply timeout. Becuse it stops listening fter receiving the proper number of bytes, it won't detect pcket triling grbge. However, it is useful for testing. Advnced RDM - Four flvors re vilble for the RDM controller. There is dedicted RDM flvor nd the 3 user setble flvors tht re found in the Trnsmit Menu. -Custom Pcket editing hs been improved -When editing rw dt of custom pcket, the cursor jumps to first PDATA slot. -While editing rw dt, holding <YES/Q>+<DWN> clers the PDATA field. - Custom pckets my be stored in n RDM Pcket Librry. -Those pckets my be reclled nytime in the future. - View PARAMETER _DESCRIPTIONS for Mnufcturer Specific PIDs The description is viewed by pressing <YES/Q> while viewing Mnufcturer Specific PID in "View Supported PIDs" menu. - Added rw DMX dump to the Receive menu. This feture will dump ll DMX line ctivity to terminl in hexdeciml. Ech Brek strts new line nd is mrked with K. Frming errors show up s "**". Everything else is printed s 2 HEX digits. By defult, everything is printed. To turn off the flood of Null Strt Code pckets, press the <Right> button while the hex dump is ctive. When filtering is enbled, only the Strt Code is printed for Null Strt Code pckets. To use this feture you must hve FTDI driver set to 1 megbud (which is non-stndrd bud rte). The <OFF> key llows the user to bck up one menu level Normlly it leves you t the entry point for the menu you were just in. However, the <OFF> does not jump out of the RDM menu.! The <OFF> key only turns the unit off when it is in the Min Menu. The quick wy to turn off the unit is <Top> then <OFF>.! Improved Colortrn support. In most menus the combintion of <UP><DN> will jump to the first item in tht menu. DMX! The items to sve nd lod show dt for either ShowSver or ShowPlyer hve been moved from the SETUP menu, to the ShowSver menu or the ShowPlyer menu.! Other thn the bove, only minor chnges were mde to the DMX menus. Sty tuned... Chnges tht were mde were of cosmetic or internl nture. RDM RDM is where the work is centered nd it lso contins the newest code, so it get the most tweking. New RDM controller fetures relesed in V4.06 include:! When selecting current device, <DW> selects the next device while <YES/Q><DW> selects the first device of the next mnufcturer. In the sme mnner <YES/Q><UP> selects the lst device of the previous mnufcturer.! Bsic sub-device support is dded. However the sub-devices must support the DEVICE_INFO PID.! Triggering preset recoding nd plybck is supported.! RDM now uses one of 4 flvors: one is fixed nd 3 re the DMX user fvors. This llows very flexible timing control.! In RDM USER OPTIONS there is now n option to "Retry lost/bd pckets". The user my set the number of retries from 0 to 4. Chnges to the RDM controller: # The RDM termintion network is disbled on reset nd when exiting the RDM menu. # The controller now verifies the Commnd Clss nd PID in RDM responses. # The DMXter now llows the user to end discovery fter bd Discovery Unique Brnch response. # The disply during discovery is improved, showing the current bottom serch boundry. # The cched DEVICE_INFO dt is updted if the Responder's Personlity is chnged. # The RDM controller will wrn you if the responder is in "Boot Loder" mode during discovery. The Pcket History reports good nd bd checksums on Discovery Unique Brnch responses.! Discovery error reporting hs been improved.! A Single Discovery Pcket item is dded to the Discovery menu.! The DMXter no longer llows the RDM interleve to be set to zero.! We hve improved the disply of DUB pcket sttistics during send-repetedly. 5 DMXter4 RDM softwre relese notes My 14, 2009 Softwre V4.05 These notes re supplement to V4.00 mnul 8 SETUP OPTIONS We hve dded the following to the Setup Options menu: 1) A sub menu tht either stores or retrieves ShowSver or ShowPlyer scenes in flsh memory. Up to 8 complete sets of nmed cues or test dt cn be stored. They re stored nd restored from sub menu in SETUP OPTIONS menu. LOAD AND STORE LOAD AND STORE SHOWPLAYER SHOWS? SHOWSAVER SHOWS? This submenu replces single item to erse ShowPlyer Scenes. (This item ws not documented in the V4.00 mnul.) 2) A sub menu tht lets you choose to erse: the EEPROM; the flsh memory; or tht shuts down the unit nd relods RAM with defult vlues Discover Devices - We hve mde the following chnges to the Discover menu: 1) Any key-press will interrupt nd terminte discovery. 2) LOAD RIG - The DMXter cn now store up to 8 nmed Tble Of Devices. This item lets you lod the TOD of your choice. 3) STORE RIG - This is the item tht stores the TOD. Use the <DWN> key to scroll thru the stored TOD s. A used memory is nmed. Note tht blnk line is memory tht someone didn t bother to nme; empty memories re lbeled (EMPTY). Once the dt is stored you will be ble to lbel the memory using our new text editor. It described below. 4) DELETE RIG - I hope this one is firly obvious. 5) A bug in Discovery tht could cuse n improperly functioning responder to crsh the DMXter ws found nd fixed. Advnced RDM dds or improves the following Discovery items: 6) ADD UID MANUALLY? 7) REMOVE UID MANUALLY? Mutes the current device 10) UNMUTE DEVICE? 11) UMUTE ALL 15.3 Device Informtion The following dditionl PIDs re supported by the Device Informtion Submenu: Device Power Stte - Lmp Stte - Lmp Mode - Supported PIDs - Comms Sttus A new menu item is SEND/EDIT DEVICE SLT 1/ 36 10@ 50% Fn Speed SEND/EDIT DEVICE shows you the number of slots device uses (here 36), the current slot viewed (here 1), the DMX ddress of tht slot (here 10), the current level of tht slot (here 50%), nd finlly the slot description if supported (here - Goddrd Design Co. 6 Fn Speed). The <UP> nd <DOWN> keys my be used to rise or lower tht slot vlue, using the stndrd shortcuts. You my chnge the level disply from percent, to deciml, to hex by the stndrd short cut. <LEFT> nd <RIGHT> will move you thru ll the slots of the device View Rw Cptured Request Pcket View Rw Cptured Response Pcket View Rw Previous Request Pcket View Rw Previous Response Pcket Build Custom Request Pcket (the lst entry disply) All of the bove re items tht let you view rw pcket generted by either the DMXter4 controller or the DUT responder. In V4.05 ll of these items cn switch from showing slot number to showing slot description s shown below. SLT: SUB STARTCODE RDM: 0h 28h 47h 44h RDM: 0h 28h 47h 44h SLT: DEST. UID5 SLT: RDM: 47h 44h 00h 40h RDM: G D RDM: G D Pressing <UP><DOWN> switches between numeric top line nd description of the dt in left most slot. Using the <RIGHT><UP> combintion cycles you thru deciml, hex nd ASCII dt formts. One other ddition to RDM pcket displys is tht you cn now view the Strt code slot,.k.. slot zero. This disply is bit jrring for old DMXter users, but in this mode slot 0 flls between slot 512 nd slot 1. See below. SLT: RDM: CCh 0h 28h 47h Build Custom Request Pcket (Improved) This routine helps you build ny pcket you choose. It guides you thru modifying lbeled RDM fields. Then it will let you view nd edit the rw dt. The rw dt my be viewed in deciml, hex or ASCII using <RIGHT><UP>. Text String Editor The Text editor edits ASCII text for use by the DMXter. It llows entry by two different methods. Text my be entered from the DMXter front pnel, or the text my be typed on your PC nd entered vi the USB port. Both methods re vilble t the sme time. For entry from the DMXter front pnel the chrcter set is upper nd lower cse letters, numbers, nd the following list: (.) (,) ( - ) (?) (!) (%) (#) (&). From PC ny ASCII chrcter cn be entered; however, the bckslsh (\) prints s Yen sign nd the (~) does not disply t ll. The following key combintions work from the DMXter s front pnel: <UP> Increments thru the lphbet from 0-9 -A - Z nd then the punctution. <DOWN> Decrements thru the punctution nd then Z- A <YES/Q><UP> Switches the chrcter t the cursor from upper cse to lower cse or the reverse. <YES/Q><DOWN> Switches the chrcter t the cursor from upper cse to lower cse or the reverse. <UP><DOWN> Erse the chrcter under the cursor. <LEFT> Cursor left. <YES/Q><LEFT> Bckspces, erses one chrcter, moving the chrcters to the right bck one spce. <RIGHT> Cursor right. <YES/Q> <RIGHT> Insert blnk t the cursor moving the rest of the line over. <LEFT><RIGHT> Returns the cursor to the first position. <RIGHT><UP> Clers t the cursor nd to the end of the line. <RIGHT><DOWN> Clers t the cursor nd to the end of the line. <YES/Q><DOWN>Held Asks you if wish to cler the whole line. 7 prompts Enter string:. Anything typed on the PC is viewed on the PC nd is inserted on the DMXter disply. While entering <bckspce> nd <Delete> will delete the lst chrcter nd move both cursors (PC& DMXter) bck one spce. <Enter> termintes entry s if <Yes/Q> ws pressed on the DMXter. Menu Nvigtion - It s chnged! As of V4.05 if you re in menu, pressing <OFF+> moves you up one level in the menu tree. The <OFF+> key only functions s on off key if you re in the Min Menu loop. A menu item is either in the form of question, ending with question mrk or s n entry item with cursor controlled choice. Items tht re neither questions nor cursor controlled re generlly the rel test routines. The routines re exited by pressing the <YES/Q> key. Some of these routines my now be borted (exited without chnging nything) by pressing the <OFF+> key. At the present, this is not universl cross ll menus. (We re working on it...) RED Key works in I&M(!) In Intercept & Modify the RED key functions s second relese key. As of this writing, this is the only function of the RED key. (But it proves tht it works...) Build Custom Request Pcket This routine lets you build custom pcket or modify preprogrmed one. The lst request pcket sent is loded into the routine on entry. How you set nd modify the pcket hs not chnged gretly since v4.00. The Send Pcket Repetedly routine is considerbly improved. The mount of dt shown hs incresed nd the UI is more flexible. The top line of ech disply counts the number of pckets sent nd whether the routine is sending or pused. Either the <LEFT> or <RIGHT> keys will cuse the disply to switch in nd out of the pused mode. PKT: 1234 PAUSED COR: 0 TOUT: 0 COR: 0 TOUT: 0 The first disply shows how mny CORrupt pckets, nd how mny Timed OUT responses were seen. <UP> nd <DOWN> will cycle you through the following displys. NAK: 0 ACKT: 0 The next disply shows how mny pckets were NAKed, nd how mny pckets were ACK Timered. ACK: ACKO: This disply shows the number of pckets tht were ACKed, nd how mny got n ACK OVERFLOW response. Cptured: 1235 This disply shows how my pckets met the cpture requirements. You cn puse the routine t ny time nd scroll up nd down through the bove displys. PDL Rnge 16 to 16 Wht ws the shortest nd longest Prmeter Dt Length seen?
