1 Quick Guide fr Setting Up Yur Online Testing Technlgy AIR s Test Delivery System (TDS) has tw cmpnents: The Test Administratr (TA) Interface and the Student Interface. Test administratrs use the TA Interface t create and manage test sessins frm any web brwser. Students access and cmplete their tests thrugh the Student Interface via the Secure Brwser. This dcument explains in 4 steps hw t set up technlgy in yur crpratin and schls: Step 1. Setting up the test administratr wrkstatin Step 2. Setting up student wrkstatins Step 3. Cnfiguring assistive technlgies STEP 1: SETTING UP THE TEST ADMINISTRATOR WORKSTATION It is unlikely that any setup is required fr yur test administratr (TA) wrkstatins. Nearly any mdern device, including mbile devices like tablets, with any mdern brwser can be used t access the TA site and administer a testing sessin. The TA Interface is a website. Any device used t access the Internet shuld be capable f administering tests. Per IDOE plicy 1, the TA wrkstatin shuld be a schl-prvided device, and nt a TA s persnal device. Smart phnes shuld nt be used t administer assessments. If yur schl uses a firewall r ther netwrking equipment that blcks access t public websites, yu may need t whitelist AIR websites. See the Whitelist URLs sectin under Step 3: Cnfiguring Yur Netwrk fr Online Testing in this dcument. T print test sessin infrmatin, TA wrkstatins must be cnnected t a printer. STEP 2: SETTING UP STUDENT WORKSTATIONS Fr students t access nline tests, each student wrkstatin needs AIR s Secure Brwser installed n it. The Secure Brwser is AIR s custmized web brwser designed t keep tests secure by lcking dwn the student desktp and preventing the student frm accessing anything except the test. Unlike cnventinal web brwsers, the Secure Brwser displays the student applicatin in full-screen mde with n user interface t the brwser itself. It has n back buttn, next buttn, refresh buttn, r URL bar. Students pen the Secure Brwser and are taken exactly where they need t g. 4 STEP 2: SETTING UP STUDENT WORKSTATIONS (Cntinued) All supprted cmputers, laptps, tablets, and apprved testing devices must meet the fllwing requirements: Screen Dimensins Screen dimensins must be 10 r larger (ipads with a 9.7 display are included). Screen Reslutin All devices must meet the minimum reslutin. Larger reslutins can be applied as apprpriate fr the mnitr r screen being used. Desktps, laptps, and tablets: 1024 x 768 Keybards The use f external keybards is highly recmmended fr tablets that will be used fr testing. Mice Wired tw- r three-buttn mice can be used n desktps r laptps. Mice with brwser back buttns shuld nt be used. Headphnes Wired headphnes with a 3.5 mm cnnectr r USB headphnes. Nte: USB headphnes are required fr devices running VMware. Installing the Secure Brwser Once yu have made sure yur device is supprted, yu are ready t dwnlad and install the Secure Brwser. This sectin explains where yu can g t dwnlad the Secure Brwser and hw t install it. The Secure Brwser is available fr all majr perating systems listed abve. Yu can dwnlad the Secure Brwser frm the Indiana Assessment Prtal at The Prtal als cntains basic installatin instructins. If yu are a technlgy crdinatr and it is yur respnsibility t manage a large number f machines acrss yur schl r district, yu can likely use the same tls yu are already familiar with t push the Secure Brwser ut t all f yur machines at scale. Fr example, the Secure Brwser ships as a MSI package which enables use f MSIEXEC. If yu are frm a small schl, yu can fllw the basic installatin instructins t install the Secure Brwser. The Secure Brwser is installed the same way as mst ther sftware. Yu will be asked t dwnlad a file, pen that file, and fllw prmpts alng the way t install the Secure Brwser. If yu are familiar with installing sftware, install the Secure Brwser the same way. Fr ipads, Andrid tablets, and Chrmebks, the AIRSecureTest app is AIR s mbile versin f the Secure Brwser. It is available in each app stre t dwnlad and install. The first time yu pen this app, it will ask yu t chse yur state and assessment prgram. Yur chice is saved and frm then n, the Mbile Secure Brwser wrks just like the desktp versin, allwing yu t access peratinal tests, practice tests, and the netwrk diagnstic tl. Yu can als use any mbile device management utility t install the Secure Brwser n multiple managed devices and cnfigure thse devices. Page 4 f 14

N further cnfiguratin is necessary fr devices running ios. A feature in ios called Autmatic Assessment Cnfiguratin wrks with AIR s Secure Brwser t prepare an ipad fr nline testing. Windws: Disabling Fast User Switching Fast User Switching is a feature in Windws 7, 8, 8.1, and 10 that allws fr mre than ne user t be lgged in at the same time. If Fast User Switching is nt disabled and students try t access it during a test, the Secure Brwser will pause the test. Fast User Switching can be disabled using the Lcal Grup Plicy Editr r Registry Editr. Mac: Disabling Missin Cntrl Missin Cntrl is a feature in Mac OS X 10.9 and later that allws users t switch t pen applicatins running in the backgrund. If Missin Cntrl is nt disabled, students will nt be able t lgin t the Secure Brwser. Missin Cntrl can be disabled thrugh the terminal. Mac: Disabling Lk-Up Gesture Lk-up Gesture allws Mac users t lk up the definitin f a wrd by highlighting that wrd and tapping the trackpad with three fingers. This feature is required t be disabled during testing. Lk-up Gesture can be disabled thrugh System Preferences. Mac: Disabling Siri Siri is a virtual assistant that uses vice cmmands t answer questins and perfrm actins n Mac desktps and laptps running MacOS r later. If Siri is nt disabled, students culd ptentially access infrmatin that they shuld nt have access t while taking a secure assessment. While in a test, the AIRSecureBrwser app will detect if a user tries t enable Siri and will discnnect the student frm the test. Siri can be disabled thrugh System Preferences. Linux: Disabling On-Screen Keybard Ubuntu and Fedra feature an n-screen keybard that shuld be disabled befre yu administer nline tests. If the n-screen keybard is nt disabled, it culd pp up n a tuchscreen device and cause the Secure Brwser t pause the test. The Linux n-screen keybard can be disabled thrugh System Settings. 6 STEP 2: SETTING UP STUDENT WORKSTATIONS (Cntinued) Andrid: Enabling Secure Brwser Keybard The default keybard fr Andrid allws predictive text, which may prvide students with hints fr answers t tests. Fr this reasn, the Secure Brwser fr Andrid requires a mbile keybard be cnfigured fr the Secure Brwser itself. The Secure Brwser keybard is a basic keybard with n rw fr predictive text functinality. The Secure Brwser keybard must be enabled thrugh a pp-up the first time the Secure Brwser is launched n an Andrid tablet. Chrme OS: Managing Aut- Updates New versins f Chrme OS are released regularly and tested by AIR t ensure n new features pse a risk fr nline testing. Hwever, bugs r unintentinal features d smetimes shw up in the latest release. Because f this, AIR recmmends disabling Chrme OS aut-updates r limiting autupdates t a versin used successfully befre summative testing begins t ensure Chrmebks remain stable during the test windw. Chrme OS updates can be disabled r limited thrugh the Device Settings page n the Chrmebk. Frm this page, autupdates can be stpped r allwed, but nly t a specific versin. STEP 3: CONFIGURING YOUR NETWORK FOR ONLINE TESTING In this sectin, we prvide sme tls and recmmendatins t help cnfigure yur netwrk fr nline testing. T ensure a smth administratin, AIR recmmends netwrk bandwidth f at least 20 kilbits per secnd fr each student being cncurrently tested. Whitelist URLs Testing servers and satellites may be added r mdified during the schl year t ensure an ptimal testing experience. As a result, AIR strngly encurages yu t whitelist at the rt level. This requires using a wildcard. AIR URLs fr Testing Sites System TA and Student Testing Sites Assessment Viewing Applicatin URL *.airast.rg *.tds.airast.rg *.clud1.tds.airast.rg *.clud2.tds.airast.rg Sme nline assessments cntain an embedded dictinary and thesaurus prvided by Merriam-Webster. The URLs listed in the table belw shuld als be whitelisted t ensure that Page 6 f 14

AIR URLs fr Online Dictinaries and Thesauruses Dmain Name IP Address media.merriam-webster.cm The Netwrk Diagnstic Tl AIR prvides a netwrk diagnstic tl t test yur netwrk s bandwidth t ensure it can handle administering nline tests. The netwrk diagnstic tl can be accessed thrugh the Secure Brwser r frm the Indiana Assessment Prtal r Released Items Repsitry site thrugh a cnventinal brwser. Once yu are in the netwrk diagnstic tl, enter the number f students yu will test at peak vlume, and the tl will indicate if yur netwrk can handle testing. The gal f the netwrk diagnstic tl is t determine if yur netwrk bandwidth can handle the number f students Page 7 f 14

8 yu intend t test at peak vlume. If the tl indicates yu shuld test with fewer students, try running a third-party netwrk speed test like speedtest.net. If a third-party tl als indicates yu lack prper bandwidth, determine if ther activity n yur netwrk is drawing bandwidth away frm machine attempting t take the test. If it is, try t priritize bandwidth fr AIR s websites during nline testing. Prxy Servers If a prxy server is set up at yur schl, yu may need t cnfigure the Secure Brwser s prxy settings. Fr instructins n hw t cnfigure the Secure Brwser s prxy settings, see the Cnfiguring the Secure Brwser fr Prxy Servers sectin in the dcuments titled, Additinal Cnfiguratins and Trubleshting Guides fr Windws, Mac, Chrme OS, Andrid, and Linux. Prxy servers must be cnfigured t nt cache data received frm servers. Sessin timeuts n prxy servers and ther devices shuld be set t values greater than the typically scheduled testing time. Fr example, if test sessins are scheduled fr 60 minutes, cnsider sessin timeuts f minutes. Traffic Shaping, Packet Priritizatin, & Quality f Service If yur testing netwrk includes devices that perfrm traffic shaping, packet priritizatin, r Quality f Service, ensure AIR URLs have high pririty. Fr a list f websites, yu shuld give high pririty, see the URLs Prvided by AIR sectin in the dcument titled, Additinal Cnfiguratins and Trubleshting Guides fr Windws, Mac, Chrme OS, Andrid, and Linux. STEP 4: CONFIGURING ASSISTIVE TECHNOLOGIES AIR s Test Delivery System is a website visible thrugh a custmized web brwser. Students wh use assistive technlgies with a standard web brwser shuld be able t use thse same technlgies with the Test Delivery System. The best way t test cmpatibility with assistive technlgies is by taking a practice test with thse technlgies turned n. If they d nt wrk, cntact the help desk r see the Trubleshting Text-t-Speech sectin in the dcument titled, Additinal Cnfiguratins and Trubleshting Guides fr Windws, Mac, Chrme OS, Andrid, and Linux fr mre infrmatin. Supprted Embedded Features Embedded features wrk directly within the Test Delivery System. They can be accessed withut additinal third-party sftware. Text-t-Speech Text-t-speech (TTS) reads alud text n the screen. Using TTS requires at least ne vice pack t be installed n the student wrkstatin. Several vice packs fr Windws and Mac are cmpatible with the Secure Brwser and ship with the perating system ut f the bx. The Mbile Secure Brwser fr ios, Andrid, and Chrme OS recgnizes the vice packs native t thse perating systems, but the audi pause feature des nt wrk crrectly n mbile devices. Cnsider testing students wh need TTS n desktps r laptps running Windws r Mac. 9 STEP 4: CONFIGURING ASSISTIVE TECHNOLOGIES (Cntinued) Trubleshting Guides fr Windws, Mac, Chrme OS, Andrid, and Linux. Supprted Nn-Embedded Features Nn-embedded features require the use f ther hardware and/r sftware t make certain functinalities available t students within the Test Delivery System. Nnembedded features require devices be set t permissive mde. This mde, fund in TIDE as a student test setting, temprarily lwers the security settings f the Secure Brwser s that the student can interperate with ther sftware n the device like JAWS r ZmText while taking a test. Braille Text-t-speech allws students t read text displayed n a screen with a braille display. Currently, AIR supprts Duxbury Braille Translatin fr TA wrkstatins. TAs need this sftware t embss braille test cntent. Additinal infrmatin can be fund in the Braille Requirements and Testing Manual. Speech-t-Text Speech-t-text (STT) allws a student t speak int a headset and have their speech cnverted int text that becmes the respnse that is entered int the Test Delivery System. Currently, AIR des nt ffer an embedded STT feature. STT is available fr Windws and Mac thrugh Dragn Naturally Speaking r ther similar sftware. Users shuld verify the security and privacy plicies f any third-party sftware befre deciding t use that sftware. Many STT prviders send a student s audi recrding t the clud fr prcessing. Users shuld have a clear understanding f what third-party prviders d and d nt d with student infrmatin. STT is nt available fr Linux, ios, Andrid, r Chrme OS. Page 9 f 14

10 ADMINISTER ONLINE TESTS Befre administering an peratinal test, get cmfrtable with the system by administering a Practice Test r a Released Items Repsitry test. Practice Tests can be administered n supprted devices via the Secure Brwser. Released Items Repsitry Tests can be administered n supprted devices via the Secure Brwser r thrugh mdern cnventinal brwsers like Chrme r Firefx. ADMINISTERING RELEASED ITEMS REPOSISTORY (RIR) TESTS T administer a RIR test, cmplete the fllwing steps: 1. TAs shuld pen a web brwser, g t the TA Site, and chse a RIR test t administer. 2. Students shuld launch the Secure Brwser and click the link fr RIR tests. 3. TAs shuld give the students the Sessin ID. 4. Students shuld click thrugh the lgin pages. Students can lg in annymusly as a guest r with their real accunt. In either case, they shuld use a Sessin ID frm the TA. When TAs and students are cmfrtable using the system, yu are ready t administer an peratinal test. ADMINISTERING PRACTICE & OPERATIONAL TESTS The steps fr administering a practice r peratinal test are nearly identical t administering a RIR test. 1. TAs shuld pen a web brwser and g t the TA Site. 2. Students shuld launch the Secure Brwser. 3. TAs shuld give students the Sessin ID. 4.
