4 1 Introduction The H 10 for M645 is a singe shot digita camera back for the innovative Mamiya 645 AFD camera. The Mamiya 645 utiises a hybrid TTL phase-difference-detection type autofocus system. Further more the Mamiya 645AF provides auto exposure settings. The Mamiya 645AFD with a H 10 M645 back encourages a kinds of photographic uses from portraiture and wide-ange photography to high speed shooting to capturing fast action with teephoto enses. This exiting combination is a resut of a joint deveopment project between Phase One and Mamiya-OP. The functionaity of the H 10 M645 is we integrated with the Mamiya 645AFD camera. The H 10 M645 camera back communicates with the Mamiya camera through a fast interna eectrica computer interface. The H 10 M645 is based on the highy recognised Phase One camera back technoogy. The appication software for the H 10 M645 is the same as for a other Phase One singe shot products. The Capture One User Guide is a genera manua for these products. This Manua H 10 M645 - Getting Started covers ony specific H 10 M645 features and functionaity. 2

5 2 Specia H 10 M645 features Auto exposure The Mamiya 645AFD can work in different auto exposure modes. This is fuy supported by the H 10 M645, which communicates the equivaent fim speed of the digita back to the Mamiya 645AFD camera. The defaut fim speed of the H 10 M645 camera back is ISO 50. However this setting can be changed to 100, 200 or even 400 ISO, inside the Capture One appication. It is recommended to capture images using a fim curve. That is done by seecting the fim curve in the Capture One software. Cick the camera icon in the icon bar, and seect Fim Curve or Fim Curve, Natura Back. When capturing with auto exposure modes, exposures between 1/4000 sec. and 30 sec can be obtained. Pease note that images captured with exposure times onger than 2 sec. can be degraded because of increased digita noise. 3

6 Doube exposure protection When using the M645 with a H 10 M645 it is not possibe to accidenty doube expose the image by capturing one image quicky after another. The H 10 communication with the M645 is disabing capture functionaity in the camera when necessary. At the end of an image exposure the image information in the CCD has to be moved from the CCD to the host computer. During this short period of time the CCD must be protected from ight exposure. The H 10 M645 ensures a safe emptying of the CCD by ignoring the shutter reease from the Mamiya camera. Image orientation detection The CCD in H 10 M645 is positioned in andscape orientation. Whenever an image is captured in portrait position by rotating the camera, an interna sensor detects this new position and the image wi appear as a correcty oriented image in the Capture One appication. Camera orientation: Images can be captured in a three positions - and wi appear with the correct orientation in the Capture One software. 4

7 IR fiter on the CCD The IR fiter (Phase One TG1 Infrared cut-off fiter) is paced on top of the CCD. The fiter may not be removed for severa reasons. The focusing of the H 10 camera back wi be damaged It is ony possibe to remount the fiter without dust in between the fiter and the CCD if you have access to specia cean room faciities. The Phase One Product Warranty is terminated. 5

8 3 Getting ready for taking pictures Mounting the viewfinder mask The image area of the Mamiya 645AF is approximatey 6 cm x 4.5 cm. The image area of the H 10 M645 is 2.4 cm x 3.6 cm. A H 10 M645 viewfinder mask is provided. This mask has to be mounted beneath the origina focusing screen. The viewfinder mask is positioned in the bracket that hods the focusing screen. Pease refer to the Mamiya 645 AFD Instructions Changing the focus screen before the focus screen is mounted. The back mark on the mask must be orientated to the eft front corner of the bracket. 6

9 Mounting the H 10 M645 on the Mamiya 645AFD The H 10 M645 is fuy integrated with the camera house and acts as a true part of the whoe camera system. When no cassette is attached to the Mamiya 645 AF camera house the mirror is up and the shutter is open. This is the correct position, when no fim cassette is attached. When attaching the M645 to the camera house, the shutter wi cose and the mirror comes down. It is important to ensure that the bottom part of the H 10 M645 camera back is pressed we into the ocking mechanism before the upper ocking mechanism is pressed together. Faiure to do this can in some circumstances bring the Mamiya camera house in an error state of continuos opening and cosing the shutter. (The same procedure is recommended for a fim cassettes). In case this error appears you simpy have to remove the H 10 M645. Notice if the shutter is in the cosed position, attach and remove the H 10 to make sure that the camera house gets in the correct starting position. To avoid that the H 10 is reeased by mistake from the camera house, you can use the encosed screwdriver to ock the H 10 M645 ocking mechanism. Step 1 Step 2 Step 3 7

11 Using manua focus enses: The provided short fash sync cabe sha be connected between the C pug on the H 10 M645 and the ens sync pug. The fash system sync cabe sha be connected to the H 10 M645 F pug. Ony exposure times between 1/250 sec. and 30 sec. are supported. When using a manua-focus ens in continuous ight you must manuay compensate for a sma underexposure i.e. with the setting of the aperture: Exposure time Loss in exposure 1/60 sec 1/3 f-stop 1/125 sec 1/2 f-stop 1/250 sec 1 f-stop Operating the camera from the host computer: The suppied motor cabe must be connected between the M connector on the H 10 M645 and the 8-pin connector on the Mamiya camera house. AF-enses as we as manua focus enses can be used. 9

12 4 Maintenance Ceaning the IR fiter When the H 10 M645 camera back is not attached to a Mamiya camera, the camera back sha be protected with the protection pate. Sti dust partices can stick to the IR fiter. This wi degrade the image quaity. The ceaning procedure for ceaning the IR fiter is described in the guideines for the CCD ceaning kit that came with your camera back. Ceaning between the CCD and the IR fiter Do not try to cean between the CCD and the IR fiter! The mounting of the IR fiter is done at the factory in a highcass cean room. This process is a very speciaised process that insures an extremey high quaity of the gass surfaces of the CCD and the IR fiter. The screws for ocking the IR fiter are seaed. If the sea is broken Phase One wi not guarantee for any partices between the CCD and the IR fiter. 1 0

13 5 Current imitations Continuous capture mode Continuous capture mode wi work as singe exposure mode. Keeping the reease bottom down wi ony resut in one exposure. The reease button has to be depressed between exposures. 11
