Though the need for pristine AC power is nothing new, the Eite-15 s technoogy and its unique impementation are revoutionary and without peer. The extreme AC demands encountered in the professiona audio/video arena have required technoogica deveopments far in excess of typica home theater/audiophie power products. In studios, ive sound, and broadcast faciities, breakdown is unacceptabe. Equipment faiure or poor performance is costy. The same is true of today s home theater. Our soution based technoogy, extensive engineering expertise, and robust buid quaity have answered the chaenge of today s corrupted power ines, and ed to the creation of the Eite-15. Today s power ines are pagued with RF and EMI noise. When connecting sensitive equipment to your home s power outet, AC noise coupes into your system s critica components. Instaation: Unpacking Before unpacking your unit, inspect the carton for any obvious severe damage to the box and interna protective materias. If interna damage is ikey, contact the carrier who deivered the unit before proceeding with unpacking. If, after unpacking, shipping damage is evident, contact the carrier. Save a shipping and packing materias. You may need them if you shoud ever have to return the unit to the factory for servicing. 2

4 The box shoud contain the Eite-15 unit, rack mount kit, owner s manua, and warranty registration card. If anything is missing, pease contact Furman Customer Service. Fi out and return your warranty registration card. Registration is recommended because it can be used to estabish whether the unit is within the warranty period shoud your origina ownership documents be ost, and it assists us in informing you about upgrades or other vita information. Safety Information - Warnings Pease read and observe a of the safety and operating instructions before the Eite-15 is operated. Retain these instructions for future reference. Do not disassembe or modify in any way. No user-serviceabe parts inside Keep away from moisture and avoid excessive humidity Do not aow iquids or foreign objects to enter the unit The Eite-15 shoud be serviced by quaified service personne when: The power suppy cord or pug has been frayed or cut. Objects have faen or iquid has spied into the unit. The Eite-15 has been exposed to rain or other moisture. The Eite-15 does not appear to operate normay, or exhibits a marked change in performance. The Eite-15 has been dropped, or the encosure damaged. The Eite-15 requires that a safety ground be present for proper operation. Any attempt to operate the Eite-15 without a safety ground is considered improper operation and wi invaidate the warranty. Power Source The power source to which the Eite-15 is connected shoud be adequate for use at 15 Amps. The Eite-15 wi operate with a10 Amp service outet; however, nuisance tripping at the circuit breaker pane may resut if the systems continuous current draw exceeds 10 Amps. Pacement The Eite-15 is manufactured with four rubber feet for pacement on any tabe, cabinet, shef, or foor. These rubber feet may be easiy removed with a standard Phiips screw driver when rack mounting adjacent to other components. Pacement or proximity to other components is not critica, and the Eite-15 does not produce any appreciabe heat under standard use. The Eite-15 may aso be rack mounted in a standard 19 rack by attaching the Eite-15 rack ears. These rack ears (contained within the pastic rack kit package) mount fush with the back portion of the Eite- 15 s front pane. They are attached to the chassis by instaing each rack ear with (3) panhead Phiips screws contained within the Eite- 15 rack mounting kit. The third screw used for each rack ear is for the center hoe, ocated towards the rear and aids in stabiizing the unit when rack mounted. Connections: AC Cabe Routing The Eite-15 s mae Edison AC cord must be connected to an appropriate socket (see current rating recommendation above). 3

5 Connecting Components to the Digita - Video Component AC Outet Banks The Eite-15 s four Digita - Video Component AC Outets shoud be empoyed for critica video components such as DVD payers, projectors, pasma, or LCD video screens. Connecting Components to the Linear Fitering Power Banks The Eite-15 s two rear pane and one front pane Linear Fitering Power Outets shoud be empoyed for any component not connected to the Digita - Video Component AC Outets, These outets sti possess exceptiona AC noise fitering to maximize system performance. Retractabe Front Pane Lights and Dimmer Contro The Eite-15 incudes a front pane mounted dimmer contro for the two retractabe front pane ight tubes. The dimmer knob contros the brightness of both ight fixtures. Turn it cockwise to increase brightness; turn it counter-cockwise to decrease brightness. When the ights tubes are fuy inserted fush to the front pane, the ight circuit is turned off via an interna micro-switch. Whether the ight tubes are retracted or neary fush with the front pane, there wi be no appreciabe heat regardess of dimmer setting due to the efficiency of our fu ight spectrum LED s. AC Votage Meter Your Eite-15 contains a combination precision incoming AC votage meter. The meter continuousy monitors and dispays the incoming AC votage (+/- 1VAC typicay). Soft Start - Continuous Use When power is first appied to the Eite-15, (the front pane breaker- power togge must be switched to the on position) the Soft Start feature is activated. There is an audibe cack when the Eite-15 is first turned on or off. This sound is produced by the Soft Start circuit s 30 Amp reay engaging or disengaging. There is virtuay nothing in the Eite-15 s construction, design, or componentry to wear over the ife time of the product, and there is no power draw from your eectric service meter aside from the LED power indicator, amps, and reay circuits. For this reason the Eite-15 may be eft with its power engaged permanenty at a cost of pennies per month. AC Transient Votage Surge Suppression and Extreme Votage Shutdown Extreme Votage Shutdown Indicator: This LED is normay off. It monitors AC wiring fauts for exampe, accidenta connection to an open neutra from a 208 or 240VAC feed (this is a common occurrence if the 15 Amp outet source is not a dedicated ine, but instead has been wired with a daisy-chained neutra from a homes breaker box). The Series Mode Protection (SMP) circuit senses votages that are so high that operation woud be impossibe and shuts the power down before damage can occur. Upon initiay appying power to these units, the Extreme Votage indicator LED wi ight if the input votage is above the extreme votage cutoff, and power wi not be appied to the unit s outets. If the unit has been operating with an acceptabe input votage and subsequenty that votage exceeds 137V, it wi shut off power to the outet and the Extreme Votage LED wi ight. Protection OK Indicator: Athough the Furman SMP circuit assures virtuay maintenance free protection from 4

6 transient votage spikes and surges, nature has a way of occasionay creating eectrica forces that are beyond the capabiities of any Transient Votage Surge Suppression device to absorb without some degree of damage. In the rare instance that this occurs, the bue LED ocated in the center of the front pane wi dim, even though AC power is present at the unit s outputs. If this happens, some eve of protection from votage surges wi remain, but the Furman s camping votage rating wi be compromised. The unit must be returned to Furman Sound, or an authorized Furman Service center for repair. NOTE: If the mains power is above the high cutoff votage and has caused the unit to remove power from its outets, it cannot restore power without the operator manuay turning the unit off, then on again. Avoid turning the unit back on, without first checking the source of the probem, and perhaps changing the AC source. Teco Sateite Cabe Transient Votage Surge Suppressors The Eite-15 features transient votage surge suppression for both standard teephone ines, as we as cabe or sateite ines utiizing standard coaxia connectors. As these surge suppressors are in-ine, they wi require an additiona cabe to connect from their output to the contro device requiring protection. bandwidth signas can pass through our circuit. In fact the bandwidth is ess than 0.1dB oss at 1GHz! To connect your cabing to these in-ine protectors, simpy foow the in and out indications marked next to the Teco, Cabe and Sateite connectors. NOTE: It is not possibe to make an in-ine cabe or sateite protector maintenance-free as we have accompished with the 120 VAC ine. This woud necessitate imited signa bandwidth that woud not aow the signa to pass. Under extreme conditions, it is possibe that the surge suppression in one of these devices coud sacrifice itsef after a catastrophic event. If the teephone, cabe or sateite signa wi no onger pass through our protector, pease contact your oca service representative, instaer or Furman for servicing. To test this, simpy disconnect the incoming and out going cabe from the Eite-15. Connect the incoming connector to the component that formery received the out going connector, thus by-passing the inine protection. If the signa is present (but not when used with the Eite-15) then the protection circuit is damaged (assuming it worked propery before a storm or catastrophic event). A in-ine surge suppressors feature our excusive ground contamination free technoogy. This aids in eiminating audio buzzing, and the video hum-bars that can resut from typica in-ine suppressors.
