4 FUNCTIONALITY MOUNTING The 810 smart card reader reads memorystye smart cards and can output the data in wiegand/aba formats as we as standard seria. This reader can be used as a direct pug and pay repacement for barcode, magnetic stripe, wiegand, or prox readers which are connected to access contro controers. Features of the 810 readers are: Bicoored ed (controed by the controer or by seria commands) Wiegand (26 bit) output (emuation modes). ABA emuation output (emuation modes). RS232 or RS422 connection capabiity (seria modes). Optiona onboard reay for door actuation contro (seria modes ony). Mounting the reader is performed just ike mounting a wa pate, with two screws that screw into a standard gang box. The reader is normay mounted verticay as shown in the picture above however it can aso be mounted horizontay. WIRING Mountabe to a standard gang box, with integra face pate. The 810 readers read standard memorystye smart cards and output the data in either wiegand/aba format or seriay. Emuation modes output both wiegand and aba on seperate ines. The reader contains an 11-position screw termina connector for easy wiring, as shown in the picture beow Cards read by the 810 must be programmed using the proper format (see Card Format section) iin order to be read by the reader. After a successfu read, the reader wi output the data to the receiving system (computer or controer), and then the receiving system can trigger the ed or reay ocated in the 810. Depending on your instaation, not a of the 11 terminas wi be used. The foowing tabe ists the use for each of the terminas. Page 4

LED There is a bi-coor ed ocated at the front of the reader. This ed is controed externay (by a controer) in emuation mode readers, and internay controed (or optionay externay controed) in seria mode readers. With the emuation mode reader, the ed ine is pued to ground to make it red, and pued up to 5VDC to make it green. Additionay, you can osciate the ine to make coor variations of red and green. A 50% duty cyce, for exampe, wi give you orange. Normay, upon power start up, the ed wi be red. Seria readers have commands to turn on and bink the eds. POWER Modes are aviaabe which run off of 5VDC, 12VDC, or 24VDC. power usage (maximum) is about 50ma. RELAY Seria readers may be optionay ordered with an interna reay. This reay can be used to contro the opening of doors or other devices. The reay is a form c reay, meaning there is one common ine, one normay open ine, and one normay cosed ine. When the reay is not engaged, the normay cosed ine wi aways have the same votage potentia as the common ine, whie the normay open ine wi not be connected. When the reay is engaged, the normay cosed ine wi not be connected, and the normay open ine wi Page 5

6 have the same votage potentia as the common ine. Upon power on, the reay is normay disengaged. The maximum ratings for the interna reay is 30VDC, 500ma. COMMUNICATION Seria communications is done using RS232, with the ine set at 9600 baud, 8 data bits, no parity, 1 stop bit. This cannot be changed in the reader; however specia configurations may be ordered. It is not necessary to connect the seria receive to the reader if you wi not be sending commands to the reader. Wiegand/ABA emuation readers have 5 different output ines - 3 ines for the ABA emuation, and 2 ines for the wiegand emuation. This is done so that you can use the reader in either of the above two modes, without having to reprogram the reader. Simpy move the wires and you're done. Emuation output readers output both wiegand and ABA data after a card is read. The output wires for emuation are inedriven (not open coector). Open coector units may be ordered on a specia basis. Transmission to and from the reader in seria mode must be terminated by a carriage return (hex 0D). CARD READING The reader has contacts for reading the smart card on ony one side, so the smart card can be inserted ony one way. It is advisabe to pace a abe or some other way of identifying which side the card shoud be inserted in, on the reader. When a smart card of the proper format is inserted into the reader, the reader wi transmit the smart card information automaticay to the controer (aba/wiegand) or seria device. Cards for use with the 810 consist of 8 characters maximum. The output data stream for wiegand is a standard 26 bit wiegand. The output in ABA is 8 numeric characters. The seria output is 8 characters foowed by a carriage return. CARD FORMAT Cards which are read by the 810 reader have to be speciay formatted (specific data must be at specific ocations on the card) for reading. This card format is defined in a different document; however it is important to note that ony cards which are formatted in the proper manner wi read in the reader. This is done for security purposes. The stye of card which is read by the reader is a standard i2c memory card, with 8-bit addressing. Cards are avaiabe from a number of manufacturers. Bank card stock is aso avaiabe through IBC. 7 PROGRAMMING The foowing are the commands for programming seria versions of the readers.
