Specifications (right side) Battery Modues can be quicky shifted to other Power Arrays or Battery Frames to manage runtime. Symmetra achieves N+1 redundancy through a new power sharing technoogy. Power sharing means that a of the modues in a Power Array run in parae and share the oad eveny. N+1 redundancy means running one extra modue than necessary to support your fu oad. In this way, a of the modues support one another. For exampe, if your computer oad is 15kVA, you achieve N+1 with five Power Modues. If a modue fais or is removed, the other modues instantaneousy begin supporting the fu oad. It does not matter which modue fais because a of the modues are aways running and supporting your oad. N+1 redundancy is used today in disk arrays, in processor power suppies, and in processors themseves. But, unti now, redundancy has never been offered for server eve power protection. As use of critica appications and databases increase, the Symmetra Power Array brings gass house reiabiity to the mid-sized power protection range. What is N+1 Redundancy? Just as a RAID distributes data across mutipe drives, Symmetra's unique power sharing technoogy aows mutipe Power Modues to share the Power Array's connected oad. (Figure 1)

The Symmetra Power Array provides the fexibiity to adapt and grow UPS power and runtime without compete reinvestment. The Symmetra Power Array is made up of oad-sharing modues so you can easiy buid and reconfigure your array. If you add computing power to your datacenter, you can add 4kVA Power Modues to expand your power capacity. If you need more battery run time, you can add Battery Modues. And if you re-depoy systems to different ocations, you can move modues from one Power Array to another. A changes can be made whie your systems are running and protected. Additiona Battery Frames can be added for unimited runtime. Scaabe Power The Symmetra Power Array integrates oad-sharing modues for easy custom configuration. Additiona 4kVA modues expand power capacity or increase redundancy. A Symmetra Power Array can sae from 4kVA up to 16kVA. Modues are hot swapped for easy scaabiity. Scaabe Runtime Additiona Battery Modues increase runtime. Modues are added or moved whie systems are running and protected.

With ony a handfu of these proprietary technicians across the country and around the word, service contracts can add up to 50% to the cost of the UPS. Power Array serviceabiity makes maintenance simpe because its components are moduar and hot-swappabe. With a Power Array, you can reduce service costs by servicing the unit yoursef, by using your current computer room service provider, or by choosing an on-site service contract from APC. Because of its inteigence, Symmetra is sef-diagnosing and automaticay gives eary-warning probem notification. Because of its redundancy, the system remains up, running and protected during the entire service process. In North America the Symmetra comes with a standard two-year warranty (U.S. ony see poicy for detais). To increase your coverage, you can upgrade to a three-year PowerPan Warranty or to a PowerPan On-site Warranty (see detais at With the PowerPan program, you' receive next day deivery of repacement modues, seven days a week. Optiona accessories and power management software provide the abiity to manage your network from anywhere in your datacenter or anywhere in the word. PowerView (incuded) Symmetra's remote dispay puts a power and UPS information at a system administrator's fingertips in a menu-based format. The PowerView attaches to the nose of Symmetra or can be extended up to 15 feet to be more convenient to a monitoring station or administrator's desk. Frame Hods the Power Array modues. It has no active components and a minimum of mechanica components, most of which (fans, for exampe) are user-repaceabe. Inteigence Modues The brain of the Symmetra. The Main Inteigence Modue communicates with the outside word and synchronizes the modues. The Redundant Inteigence Modue is the back-up brain and ensures fauttoerance. A of Symmetra's modues are hot-swappabe and userrepaceabe. Power Modues (PM's): 4kVA UPS "buiding bocks" Contain the eectronics of a 4kVA UPS, incuding the inverter, rectifier, and charger. Note: Symmetra systems with an EX in the part number indicate room for expansion. STEP 2: Add an additiona Power Modue for N+1 Redundancy. STEP 3: Choose an extended runtime option for onger runtimes if needed.

First, because the system is shipped on paets, provisions must be made for the paets to be moved to the instaation site with a paet jack. Second, the room where the Symmetra Power Array wi be instaed must meet specific environmenta and structura requirements. Finay, provisions for wiring the system must be made. Wiring for the system incudes input wiring from the buiding service to the system, output wiring from the system to the oad equipment, the instaation of an optiona grounding eectrode, and the instaation of an emergency power off switch.
