5 Introduction The Eaton Remote Monitoring Device (RMD) is designed for use with the 93PM series UPS. The RMD incudes a status dispay screen and a oca audibe aarm, aowing monitoring of the operationa status and aarm condition of the UPS from virtuay any ocation within the faciity, up to 300 feet from the UPS. It wi dispay the genera state of the UPS and key metrics ike battery charge and avaiabe runtime when on battery. It is not a fu remote dispay and it does not offer any contro or operation capabiity. The RMD is housed in sma pastic case with a separate battery charger cord that can be paced on a desk or wa mounted. Figure 1 shows the RMD and Figure 2 the RMD dimensions. 7 Instaation Instaation This section describes how to insta the RMD. Network Card Instaation NOTE A Power Xpert Gateway Minisot (PXGMS) card must be instaed in the UPS to use the RMD. Insta the PXGMS card into the UPS Minisot. Refer to the appicabe Eaton 93PM UPS Instaation and Operation manua (see For More Information section) for the UPS Minisot ocation and wiring access information and to the Eaton Power Xpert Gateway Minisot (PXGMS) UPS Card User s Guide suppied with the Minisot card for instaation and user instructions. For instaation and setup of a Minisot card, contact an Eaton service representative (see Getting Hep section). Network Card Configuration To estabish communication between the PXGMS card and the RMD, the PXGMS card network must be staticay configured as a private Cass C network. To set up the PXGMS card: 1. Downoad the powerxpert.inf fie to provide USB driver support for the Linux USB Ethernet/RNDIS Gadget on Windows 7 or XP from the Eaton website at: PowerQuaityandMonitoring/NetworkingHardware/pxgms/index.htm 2. Insta the powerxpert.inf onto a aptop computer in accordance with the procedures outined in the Eaton PowerXpert Gateway Minisot (PXGMS) UPS Card User Guide. 3. Connect the USB port on the aptop to the microusb port on the PXGMS card using a USB cabe with a microusb connector on one end. Communication is estabished via IP address Once estabished scro down to Configuration > Network and modify the Network Configuration of the PXGMS card to the vaues isted beow: IP Address: Netmask: Gateway: Proceed to RMD Instaation. 8 Instaation RMD Instaation If desk mounting: 1. Route the Cat5 network cabe from the UPS PXGMS card to the RMD. 2. Connect the Cat5 cabe to the RJ45 Ethernet connector on the RMD (see Figure 4). 3. Connect the Cat5 cabe to the RJ45 Ethernet connector on the PXGMS card. Refer to the appicabe Eaton 93PM UPS Instaation and Operation manua for the UPS Minisot ocation and wiring access information (see For More Information section). NOTE Ensure the Status indicator of the PXGMS card is iuminated (this may take approximatey two minutes) before pugging in the RMD power source. 4. After the Status indicator of the PXGMS card has iuminated, connect the charger cord micro USB connector to the micro USB connector on the RMD (see Figure 4). Connect the transformer side of the charger cord to a 120 Vac service outet. The RMD shoud start automaticay with the Eaton ogo being dispayed. Then the power pushbutton on the front of the RMD wi iuminate green and the current status of the UPS shoud be dispayed. If the dispay does not start, et the battery charge for 30 minutes and start manuay (see Powering the RMD on page 7). If wa mounting: 1. Attach the wa mounting bracket to a wa at the desired ocation. Use the mounting hoes in the bracket as a tempate to dri hoes. Use hardware appicabe to the surface that the bracket is being mounted on to secure the bracket to the wa. 2. Mount the RMD in the bracket by pacing the bottom edge of the RMD into the bracket bottom rai support and then snapping the top edge under the ocking atch (see Figure 3). 3. Route the Cat5 network cabe from the UPS PXGMS card to the RMD. 4. Connect the Cat5 cabe to the RJ45 Ethernet connector on the RMD (see Figure 4). 5. Connect the Cat5 cabe to the RJ45 Ethernet connector on the PXGMS card. Refer to the appicabe Eaton 93PM UPS Instaation and Operation manua for the UPS Minisot ocation and wiring access information (see For More Information section). 10 Operation Operation This section describes how to operate the RMD. RMD Components The components identified and described in this section are used to connect and operate the RMD. 4.3 Dispay Screen shows UPS status Power Pushbutton turns the RMD on (press and hod for 3 seconds) and off (press and hod for 11 seconds) and is used to sience the audibe aarm Audibe Aarm the aarm sounds to aert an operator that an event needing attention is taking pace. To sience the audibe aarm, press the power button momentariy (see Figure 4) Micro USB Connector connects the externa charger to RMD interna battery Ethernet Connector connects the RMD to the UPS PXGMS card Figure 4 shows the ocation of the RMD components. Dispay Screen Sections The dispay consists of two sections, a status indicator section on the eft side of the screen and an information area to the right of the status indicators that dispays operationa messages. The status indicator icons dispay as green, yeow, or red depending on the status of the UPS. Figure 5 shows the dispay screen sections. Input This icon shows the state of the incoming power. It is green if the power is avaiabe and good. If it turns yeow the votage or frequency of the eectrica power is not within acceptabe imits. Battery This icon shows the state of the energy storage and charge percent. Each bar of the Battery icon represents a predefined percentage of the tota energy as foows: if five bars are shown the energy charge is between %; if four bars are shown the charge is between 70-89%; if three bars are shown the charge is between 50-69%; if two bars are shown the charge is between 30-49%; if one bar is shown the charge is between 10-29%; if no bars are shown the charge is 9% or ess. In case the input power fais, and the UPS goes on battery, this icon wi turn yeow. When the battery is amost depeted and there are ony a few minutes of runtime eft the icon wi turn red. Battery Icon Number of Bars Dispayed Energy Charge Five % Four 70-89% Three 50-69% Two 30-49% One 10-29% None 9% or ess Bypass Under norma operation this icon shoud remain green. If it changes to yeow, the UPS is on bypass and is not abe to provide battery backup. Aarm Under norma operation this icon shoud remain green. 11 Operation Information Area Status Indicator Icons Figure 5. Dispay Screen Sections Powering the RMD NOTE The PXGMS card must be setup and running in the UPS before starting the RMD. If powered up together the RMP may not estabish communication. To turn the RMD on press and hod the power pushbutton on the front of the RMD (see Figure 4) for three seconds. The RMD shoud start with the Eaton ogo being dispayed. Then the power pushbutton on the front of the RMD wi iuminate green and the screen shown in Figure 5 shoud be dispayed. If the dispay does not start, et the battery charge for 30 minuets. To turn the RMD off press and hod the power pushbutton on the front of the RMD for approximatey 11 seconds. If a white screen is dispayed on the RMD after the UPS is turned on, press and hod the power pushbutton on the front of the RMD for 15 seconds (whie the power cabe is pug in) and the RMD wi subsequenty estabish communication with the PXGMS card. 12 Operation System Events The foowing paragraphs describe the typica information that can be dispayed on the RMD screen. Communications Faut Screen If a communication issue occurs between the RMD and the UPS the message shown in Figure 6 wi be dispayed. Check the state of the Ethernet 10/100 (RJ45) connection examine both LEDs on the RMD. One represents Activity (ACT) and the other represents the speed (10/100) at which that activity is occurring. Specificay, network communication is occurring when the green ACT indicator is binking. If this indicator is not iuminated then there is no network activity. The other LED represents the speed of the network connection. If this indicator is iuminated yeow then that indicates a vaid 100 Mb connection. If this indicator is not iuminated it indicates a vaid 10 Mb connection as ong as the corresponding ACT is binking green. If the Activity LED on the RMD is not binking green, check that the network cabe is the correct type and securey connected to the Ethernet 10/100 port for both the PXGMS card and the RMD. If the network cabe is securey connected to both the PXGMS card and the RMD, and dispay on the RMD is competey white (i.e. no communication), communication can be reattempted. To re-estabish communication: 1. Unpug the microusb power connection from the RMD. 2. Turn the RMD off by hoding the power pushdown switch down for 11 seconds. 3. Remove and re-seat the PXGMS card within the mini-sot and waiting approximatey two minutes unti the Status indicator is iuminated. 4. Once iuminated, turn the RMD back on by re-inserting the microusb power connection into the RMD. After 55 seconds check to see if communication has been estabished with between the PXGMS card and the RMD. Figure 6. Operation Norma Screen When the UPS is operating normay with fu oad protection, the information area wi dispay System norma and a status indicators wi be iuminated green as shown in Figure 7.

Figure 7. Norma Screen On Battery Screen When the UPS is on battery, the status indicators wi be dispayed as shown in Figure 8. The information area wi dispay the remaining backup time in minutes and seconds. Both the Input and Battery icons are iuminated yeow due to oss of input power whie the UPS is on battery. Figure 8. 14 Operation On Bypass Screen When the UPS is on bypass, the status indicators and information area wi be dispayed as shown in Figure 9. The critica oad is supported by the bypass source. Figure 9. On Bypass Screen Faut Condition Screen When a faut condition occurs the status indicators and information area wi be dispayed as shown in Figure 10 and indicates the UPS has an active aarm and requires immediate attention. If this occurs, check the state of the UPS and if necessary contact service as the UPS may not be abe to provide backup power. A aarms are accompanied by an audibe signa. To sience the audibe signa, press the power button momentariy (see Figure 4). The Aarm status indicator may be iuminated aong with other indicators. Figure 10.
