7 INTRODUCTION This document is intended for use by instaation technicians and expains how to: insta an S900 Scancopier with its Stand and Automatic Document Feeder (ADF) to operate with an Executive Series printer carry out basic copying and scanning checks Engish INTRODUCTION > 7

8 MAIN STEPS The main steps invoved in the S900 Scancopier instaation are isted beow and expanded as required in the foowing sections. (A particuar instaation wi depend on the range of optiona items invoved, and it is assumed that the customer s printer is aready operationa.) 1. Check the contents of the Scancopier and any optiona packages. 2. Check that sufficient space is avaiabe for the instaation. 3. Insta the IEEE1394 (Firewire) card in the printer and, if required, upgrade the Firewire firmware. NOTE You wi need a aptop PC for this task. 4. If required, insta the Scancopier Stand kit and cabinet. 5. Insta the Scancopier and the Automatic Document Feeder. 6. Carry out basic copying and scanning checks. 7. 12 CHECKING INSTALLATION SPACE The Scancopier can be paced on either a tabe top or other suitabe eve surface adjacent to the printer or can be mounted on an optiona stand and cabinet arrangement. If the user aready has a Finisher (1), it wi be mounted on a cabinet (2) attached to the printer (3) and the stand (4) for the Scancopier (5) wi attach to the cabinet The combined cabinet and printer have a footprint of ength 59" (1500mm) and breadth 31.5" (800mm), aowing cearance for access. 12 < CHECKING INSTALLATION SPACE

14 INSTALLING THE FIREWIRE CARD 1. Turn OFF the printer to be used with the Scancopier Loosen the two screws and remove the cover from the ower option sot (1). 3. Insert the Firewire card (2) into the option sot and secure it with the two thumbscrews (3). 4. Switch ON the printer. 5. Print a Menu Map as foows to confirm the Firewire card is correcty instaed: (a) (b) (c) (d) Press the MENU button to access the INFORMATION MENU. (If there is a hard disk instaed, you wi need to press the MENU button twice to access the INFORMATION MENU.) Press the ITEM button and confirm that PRINT MENU MAP is dispayed on the printer operator pane LCD. Press the SELECT button to print the Menu Map. Check that an entry appears on the second page of the Menu Map entited IEEE1394 MENU. 14 < INSTALLING THE FIREWIRE CARD

15 UPGRADING THE FIREWIRE FIRMWARE Engish This instruction covers the instaation of a firmware upgrade to support the Firewire card. The upgrade is ony required if the Firewire firmware revision currenty instaed in the printer is ess than the foowing: IEEE1394:01.04 To check the current Firewire firmware revision, refer to the menu map you have just printed. Examine the print-out in the ower right corner of the bock just beow the Menu Map tite. If the vaue is ess than that shown above, proceed with the firmware upgrade. FIRMWARE UPGRADE NOTE You wi need your aptop PC for this task. 1. Create a temporary foder on the hard disk of your aptop PC. 2. Copy the foowing fies from the CD suppied with the Scancopier into this foder: (a) OkiDownoadToo.exe (the downoad too) (b) Opusbacc.d (ibrary fie) (c) DLM1394_xxxx.oki (where xxxx denotes the revision, 0025 in this exampe) UPGRADING THE FIREWIRE FIRMWARE > 15

16 3. Doube-cick the OkiDownoadToo.exe to aunch the too: 4. Ensure that no non-usb cabes are connected to the printer and then connect the PC to the printer via the USB cabe. 5. When the new hardware search window is dispayed, cick the Cance button. 6. Cick the Seect Port button, seect USB as the output port and cick OK. 16 < UPGRADING THE FIREWIRE FIRMWARE

17 Engish 7. Doube-cick the Seect Downoad Fie button, seect the update firmware fie and cick OK. 8. Doube-cick the Send Fie button. Confirm that the port and update fie are correct and cick OK. Cance UPGRADING THE FIREWIRE FIRMWARE > 17

18 9. Confirm that the Sending End! message is dispayed and cick OK. 10. Confirm that the printer LCD dispays ON-LINE. 11. Switch the printer OFF for about 10 seconds and then ON. 12. 20 INSTALLING THE SCANCOPIER (AND ADF) PRECAUTIONS Keep the Scancopier out of direct sunight. Direct exposure to the sun or excessive heat may cause damage. Do not insta the Scancopier near heating or air conditioning units. Do not insta the Scancopier in a humid or dusty pace. Be sure to use the proper AC power source. Be sure to use the suppied AC adapter. Using other AC adapters may damage the Scancopier and void the warranty. Pace the unit securey on an even, fat surface, or the optiona stand. Tited or uneven surfaces may cause mechanica or paper-feeding probems. Retain the box and packing materias for shipping purposes. CAUTION! Do not connect AC power to the S900 unti you have unocked the scanning head, otherwise damage to the Scancopier may resut. 20 < INSTALLING THE SCANCOPIER (AND ADF)

21 Engish UNLOCKING THE SCANNING HEAD To protect the scanning head from damage during shipment, the Scancopier is designed with a ock switch on the side of the main unit. Therefore, BEFORE USING, THE MACHINE MUST BE UNLOCKED by moving the ock switch to the Use position Shipping (ocked) position 2. Use (unocked) position INSTALLING THE SCANCOPIER (AND ADF) > 21

Remove the standard Scancopier document cover (1) by opening it and ifting upwards to remove the inserts (2) from the hoes at the rear of the Scancopier Store the document cover on a fat surface in a safe pace. 2. Hod the ADF document cover (3) and ower it to engage the inserts into the hoes (4) at the rear of the Scancopier < INSTALLING THE SCANCOPIER (AND ADF)

24 CONNECTING THE CABLES Connect the cabes as shown IEEE1394 cabe to the IEEE1394 data port on the printer. 2. USB cabe to the PC s USB port. Ony required for scanning images into the PC (and upgrading firmware). Does not support printing from the PC via USB. 3. ADF cabe attached to the ADF if present. CAUTION! Do not connect AC power to the S900 unti you have unocked the scanning head, otherwise damage to the Scancopier may resut. 24 < INSTALLING THE SCANCOPIER (AND ADF)

25 Engish CONNECTING THE POWER AND SWITCHING ON CAUTION > Do not connect the S900 to the printer unti the printer is turned ON and dispaying ON-LINE in its operator pane. > You can eave the S900 switched ON at a times as it has a buit-in power saving function. 1. Press the Scancopier power switch (1) to the 0 position to ensure the Scancopier is turned off Connect the end of the power cabe from the Adapter to the Scancopier power port (2) Connect the Adapter to an appropriate power outet with the power cabe suppied and switch on the power. 4. 26 As part of the warm-up message, the Scancopier LCD dispay shows the instaed Firmware version number and the Coor Tabe version number. NOTE The defaut instaed Coor Tabe is for the ES 3037 printer. To set up your Scancopier for use with a ES3937e printer, use the Additiona Settings button as described in the foowing section. At the end of the warm-up message, the LCD dispay shows the system defaut vaues in readiness for copying. 26 < INSTALLING THE SCANCOPIER (AND ADF)

27 Engish SETTING UP ADDITIONAL SETTINGS When you press the Additiona Settings button, ensure that the foowing menu and factory defaut settings appear in the LCD dispay: 0. PIN Setting: Disabe 1. Paper Tray: Tray1 10. Power Saving Mode: 30Min. 11. Paper Suppy: Std Paper NOTE The menu shown is that dispayed when a printer options are instaed. Printer options that are not instaed do not appear on the menu. If there is a change in the condition of an option, the settings wi be returned to the factory defaut vaues. At this point, change the Printer Profie setting, if required, to match the user s printer. (See Appendix A, and if required, Appendix C.) INSTALLING THE SCANCOPIER (AND ADF) > 27

28 INSTALLING UTILITIES FROM THE CD-ROM NOTE A fu software instaation is to be carried out, even if the user does not intend to use Unimessage Pro. To operate the S900 at optimum speed for scanning, the foowing minimum requirements are recommended: IBM compatibe PC (Pentium or ater); Microsoft Windows 98/Me, Windows 2000/XP; One USB port avaiabe; 100 Megabytes of avaiabe hard disk space for instaation; 128 Megabytes of RAM (256 Megabytes or higher recommended); VGA monitor; A Microsoft Windows-compatibe pointing device (e.g., amouse); A CD-ROM drive. For minimum system requirements for Unimessage Pro operation, refer to the Unimessage Pro User s Guide on the CD suppied with the Scancopier. Foow the steps beow: 1. Start Microsoft Windows. 2. Insert the Utiities and Documentation CD-ROM into your CD- ROM drive. 3. The CD-ROM wi autoaunch on most systems. However, if your system does not support autoaunching CD-ROMs, press the Start button, choose RUN, type d:\setup.exe (d: the CD- ROM drive in use), and then cick OK. 4. 29 Engish 5. Doube-cick on Insta Update Too and foow the on-screen instructions. 6. Doube-cick on Insta Unimessage Pro + TWAIN and foow the on-screen instructions, referring to the Unimessage Pro User s Guide for detaied instructions. 7. 31 BASIC FUNCTIONAL CHECKS Engish Before carrying out any functiona checks to check satisfactory operation of the Scancopier (and ADF) with the printer (and PC), ascertain from the user the vaues to be set as user defauts and show the user how to set these up using the Additiona Settings button, adjacent arrow keys and Save Settings button (See Appendix A). The functiona checks invove copying and scanning from the fatbed gass and ADF using the S900 contro pane, fu detais of which are given in the S900 Scancopier User s Guide suppied in eectronic form on the CD that accompanies the Scancopier. 32 COPYING NOTE You can use the foowing functiona checks as a demonstration of basic operation to the user. 1. Load an exampe singe-page coor document to be copied. Pace the document face down on the gass, aigned to the top eft corner (1) of the gass Enter your copy count via the Copy Count pane. 32 < BASIC FUNCTIONAL CHECKS

33 Engish 3. Make your copies 4 5 (a) Press the Coor button (4) to togge between coor copying (iuminated) and back and white copying (not iuminated). (b) Press the Copy button (5) whie the Coor button (4) is iuminated. 4. Visuay check that the expected copy resuts are obtained by comparing with the origina. 5. Repeat the above steps from Step 1 but this time: (a) At Step 1, pace an exampe two-page coor document in the ADF rather than a singe document on the fatbed as beow. Pace your document (2) face up in the ADF, top of the document entered first and adjust the paper guides (3) to centre the document. 2 3 BASIC FUNCTIONAL CHECKS > 33

34 SCANNING NOTE Carry out the foowing functiona check to ensure basic scanning operation of Unimessage Pro, not necessariy as a demonstration to the user. The user can use the Scancopier to scan images using either a proprietary appication or using Unimessage Pro (in conjunction with the TWAIN software). These methods are described in the S900 Scancopier User s Guide and the Unimessage Pro User s Guide, to which you shoud direct the user. 1. Start Unimessage Pro (for exampe using Start Programs Unimessage Pro Unimessage Pro) 2. Pace an exampe singe-page coor document on the fatbed. 3. Cick on the Scan Image icon on the Unimessage Pro Wecome window to dispay the TWAIN window. 4. Seect the Fatbed scanning method on the Scan Method drop-down menu. 34 < BASIC FUNCTIONAL CHECKS

35 Engish 5. Seect the 24-Bit Coor mode on the Image Type drop-down menu. 6. Leave a other settings at their defaut vaues. 7. Cick on the Scan button to scan your document. 8. Use Fie Cose to return to the Unimessage Pro Wecome window. 11. Repeat the above steps from Step 2, but this time: (a) (b) (c) At Step 2, pace an exampe two-page coor document to be scanned in the ADF (face up). At Step 4 seect ADF/Muti-page. 39 APPENDIX A ADDITIONAL SETTINGS OPTIONS Engish Since the factory defaut settings for the S900 may not match a particuar appication, you can set up user defauts by using the Additiona Settings button in conjunction with the adjacent Arrow Keys. Having made the user settings, use the Save Settings button to save them as the new defaut. To return to the origina factory defaut settings, if required, hod down the A Cear button for 5 seconds. The options avaiabe under each menu item dispayed in the LCD (seectabe by using the adjacent Arrow Keys) are as foows: PIN Setting Enabe Disabe If required, refer to Appendix B for detaied information about PIN setting. 43 Engish APPENDIX B SETTING UP A PIN ID AND PRINT CONTROL INTRODUCTION A printing imitation can be appied to every user via the PIN ID and the Print Contro Utiity (option) of the printer, and information about printing jobs e.g. tota print count can be acquired as og data. CONNECTION ARRANGEMENT 2 1 The S900 Scancopier is connected via an IEEE1394 cabe (1) to the printer, which is connected via the network hub (2) to the PC. 44 SETTING UP THE PRINT CONTROL UTILITY Refer to the Print Contro Utiity user s guide for detais of the steps outined beow. 1. Using administrator rights, insta the Print Contro Utiity in the PC. 2. Start the Print Contro Utiity and add the S900 Scancopier as a printer that acquires Print og. 3. After adding the S900, set the User ID. Add "100000" at the front of the 4-digit S900 PIN to create a 10-digit number, and register it. Exampe: " " is the resuting number when the S900 PIN is "1234". 4. Choose registered User ID, and set up "a use imitation" and "imitation vaue." SETTING THE PIN ID On the S900: 1. Press the Additiona Settings key. 2. Change the PIN Setting from Disabe to Enabe. 3. Press the Save Settings key. 4. The PIN ID input screen is dispayed in the LCD. 5. Input a 4-digit ID with the Copy Count key pane. 6. Press the Start Key. NOTE Once PIN Setting has been enabed, this entry is not dispayed in the menu unti the A Cear button has been pressed and hed for 5 seconds, returning a settings to the factory defaut vaues. 44 < APPENDIX B SETTING UP A PIN ID AND PRINT CONTROL
