Hmewrk Review: Cmparing camera LCD vs. cmputer mnitr cmments??? ACTIVITY ONE: Shutter Speed Pririty Mde: Use ISO 1600, Shutter Speed S r Tv at 1/125 th secnd, NO Flash! 1. ACTIVITY FOUR: Gelling Yur Flash Instructins: Set yur camera t use ISO 1600 and set the White Balance t Flurescent. Put yur camera in Aperture Pririty Av r A, and use the lwest f-stp number that yu can (f/2.8 r f/3.5). Yu are ging t wrk with a partner and take prtrait phts. Use the Flash Cmpensatin cntrl ( )t adjust the utput f yur Flash lwer t -1.5 r -2; Image Grup One take a pht f yur partner (shulders and head) using yur flash nrmally; Image Grup Tw tape an range filter t yur flash s that it hangs ver the flash and take anther cuple f phtgraphs f yur partner. Which White Balance wrks best? Flash Sync Speed: The nrmal Maximum Shutter Speed yur camera uses with flash is 1/180 th 1/250 th sec. Flash with High Speed (High Speed Sync) This is the buttn n yur accessry flash that activates High Speed Sync. Activate High Speed Sync and yu are able t use Shutter Speeds that are faster than yur nrmal Flash Sync speed. Often High Speed Sync will wrk right up t the Maximum shutter speed f yur camera. 5 ACTIVITY Five: Hw t Test fr Dust n yur Sensr: (See Handut Example f Results) 1. Set yur camera t Aperture Pririty (f/22 r f/16); 2. Use a lw ISO 100 (NOTE: it is kay that yur Shutter Speed will then be really slw!); 3. Manual Fcus t Infinity; 4. Find a bright white surface, like white paper, t take a pht f; 5. With the white surface filling the viewfinder prepare take a pht. 6. Mve the camera slightly during the expsure, but dn t g utside f the frame f white paper; 7. Review the image by zming in n the LCD, and scrlling thrugh the entire image. Any dust will appear as dark spts against the blurred white/gray backgrund. 8. TIP: if the dust is hard t detect then lad the pht int Phtshp and use AUTO Levels t adjust the image and make sptting the dust easier! DEMO: Cleaning the Sensr (this is why it might be better t have it cleaned at a service centre) Visit: fr sme extra inf n cleaning sensrs Camera Cleaning: Wrking in pairs, yu will need ne blwer bulb, ne lens paper packet, ne bttle f cleaning slutin and ne lens brush. (NOTE: An excellent lens cleaning brush is a Blush Brush made by Qu at Shppers Drug Mart) ACTIVITY Six: While yu are cleaning yur camera Rger will cme ver t dem hw sensrs are cleaned. The Lens: Start by gently blwing any dust ff the frnt f the lens by using the prvided blwer bulb. Then, using the lens brush, gently brush acrss the lens, and then arund the edge. Lastly, put a cuple f drps f lens cleaner n a sheet f lens paper and gently swab the lens frm the centre ut twards the rim, ding this all the way arund the lens. Use a secnd piece f lens tissue t finish cleaning. (This is hw yu wuld als d the ther end f the lens that cnnects t the camera) The Camera: Using a piece f lens tissue with a cuple f drps f lens cleaner quickly wipe the cntacts f the lens cllar. This is when yu wuld als quickly clean the back f the lens with a puff f air, and a swipe with a brush. Then munt the lens back n the camera and remember t als clean the viewfinder with a quick puff f air, brush and swab. Chrmatic Aberratin: Is clured fringing n the edges f detail in a pht. This happens because the lens des nt fcus all the clurs f light (RGB) at the same pint. It can be reduced by a variety f catings, and the type f glass used t make the lenses, as well as in the image prcessing sftware. It is nt related t DIRTY lenses! (It shws up as Green r Magenta fringing alng fine edges in yur phtgraph.) Hmewrk: Smetime this week yu are t use Shutter Pririty t phtgraph mving subjects f yur wn chsing. Befre yu take yur pht s yu will need t decide if yu are ging t emphasize the mtin by freezing it (fast shutter speed) r emphasize the mtin by allwing blurring t happen (slw shutter speed). ACTIVITIES: 1. Find Vide Quality Settings & set camera t recrd vide at 1080p & 30 fps in Prgram Mde; 2. Practice fcusing n a subject walking away frm yu until yu are gd at it, and then walking twards yu; a) Try just Hand-held withut any aid, als try a panning hand-held clip; b) Use the Steady Strap t assist in keeping the camera steady, then try a panning clip ; 3. Insights Remember: Vide recrding is still an evlving feature capabilities & mdes vary between cameras; Tripds are yur very best friend fr getting stable vide & batteries last fr abut 1 hur f recrding time; Blck ut yur needed scenes as a strybard t help keep track f what t sht & stay rganized; Image stabilizatin may wrk, but will cause the lens t make nise if it des, Aut-Fcus will make nise als; 4 minutes f encded MPEG-4 vide takes up abut 1 Gigabyte f strage, whereas the same 4 minutes f vide NOT cmpressed takes up just abut 32 Gigabytes f strage. This is why files are encded/cmpressed n-the-fly; High capacity cards (32GB - 64GB) fr strage and fast cards (class 10 r UHS-1/2) are still fairly expensive; LCD is hard t mnitr in bright light, and clips need t be limited in length t avid nise frm sensr heat; With the rlling shutter f a CMOS sensr panning very quickly can result in jiggly Jell-O images ; Ggle the term Rlling Shutter fr a variety f explanatins and examples (i.e. Curving prpeller blades) Expsure is best adjusted n the clip level in the editing stage f yur wrkflw (NOT via Expsure Cmpensatin) Learn t use a Nn-Linear Editr (NLE) such as Phtshp Premiere Elements t edit and distribute yur vide.
