(26) CAUTION: Do not instll unit in rck where the internl rck mbient tempertures will exceed the mnufcturer's recommended mbient temperture for ll your rck-mounted deices. Do not instll unit in rck where the ir flow is compromised. Ensure tht ir flow is not blocked or reduced on ny side, front, or bck of unit used for ir flow through the unit. Considertion should be gien to the connection of the equipment to the supply circuit so tht oerloding of the circuits does not compromise the supply wiring or oercurrent protection. To proide the correct power connection to rck, refer to the rting lbels locted on the equipment in the rck to determine the totl power requirement of the supply circuit. (For sliding drwers) Do not pull out or instll ny drwer or feture if the rck stbilizer brckets re not ttched to the rck. Do not pull out more thn one drwer t time. The rck might become unstble if you pull out more thn one drwer t time. (For fixed drwers) This drwer is fixed drwer nd must not be moed for sericing unless specified by the mnufcturer. 12 CAUTION: Remoing components from the upper positions in the rck cbinet improes rck stbility during reloction. Follow these generl guidelines wheneer you relocte populted rck cbinet within room or building. Reduce the weight of the rck cbinet by remoing equipment strting t the top of the rck cbinet. When possible, restore the rck cbinet to the configurtion of the rck cbinet s you receied it. If this configurtion is not known, you must obsere the following precutions. Remoe ll deices in the 32U position nd boe. Ensure tht the heiest deices re instlled in the bottom of the rck cbinet. Ensure tht there re no empty U-leels between deices instlled in the rck cbinet below the 32U leel. If the rck cbinet you re relocting is prt of suite of rck cbinets, detch the rck cbinet from the suite. If the rck cbinet you re relocting ws supplied with remoble outriggers they must be reinstlled before the cbinet is relocted. Inspect the route tht you pln to tke to eliminte potentil hzrds. Verify tht the route tht you choose cn support the weight of the loded rck cbinet. Refer to the documenttion tht comes with your rck cbinet for the weight of loded rck cbinet. Verify tht ll door openings re t lest 760 x 230 mm (30 x 80 in.). Ensure tht ll deices, sheles, drwers, doors, nd cbles re secure. Ensure tht the four leeling pds re rised to their highest position. Ensure tht there is no stbilizer brcket instlled on the rck cbinet during moement. Do not use rmp inclined t more thn 10 degrees. When the rck cbinet is in the new loction, complete the following steps: Lower the four leeling pds. Instll stbilizer brckets on the rck cbinet. If you remoed ny deices from the rck cbinet, repopulte the rck cbinet from the lowest position to the highest position. If long-distnce reloction is required, restore the rck cbinet to the configurtion of the rck cbinet s you receied it. Pck the rck cbinet in the originl pckging mteril, or equilent. Also lower the leeling pds to rise the csters off the pllet nd bolt the rck cbinet to the pllet. (R002) CAUTION: Rck is not intended to sere s n enclosure nd does not proide ny degrees of protection required of enclosures. It is intended tht equipment instlled within this rck will he its own enclosure. (R005). CAUTION: Tighten the stbilizer brckets until they re flush ginst the rck. 13 CAUTION: Do not plce ny object on top of rck-mounted deice unless tht rck-mounted deice is intended for use s shelf. (R008) CAUTION: If the rck is designed to be coupled to nother rck only the sme model rck should be coupled together with nother sme model rck. To oid shock hzrd: If IBM supplied power cord(s), connect power to this unit only with the IBM proided power cord. Do not use the IBM proided power cord for ny other product. Do not open or serice ny power supply ssembly. Do not connect or disconnect ny cbles or perform instlltion, mintennce, or reconfigurtion of this product during n electricl storm. The product might be equipped with multiple power cords. To remoe ll hzrdous oltges, disconnect ll power cords. Connect ll power cords to properly wired nd grounded electricl outlet. Ensure tht the outlet supplies proper oltge nd phse rottion ccording to the system rting plte. Connect ny equipment tht will be ttched to this product to properly wired outlets. When possible, use one hnd only to connect or disconnect signl cbles. Neer turn on ny equipment when there is eidence of fire, wter, or structurl dmge. Disconnect the ttched power cords, telecommunictions systems, networks, nd modems before you open the deice coers, unless instructed otherwise in the instlltion nd configurtion procedures. Connect nd disconnect cbles s described in the following procedures when instlling, moing, or opening coers on this product or ttched deices. To disconnect: 1. Turn off eerything (unless instructed otherwise). 2. Remoe the power cords from the outlets. 3. Remoe the signl cbles from the connectors. 4. Remoe ll cbles from the deices. To connect: 1. Turn off eerything (unless instructed otherwise). 2. Attch ll cbles to the deices. 3. Attch the signl cbles to the connectors. 4. Attch the power cords to the outlets. 5. Turn on the deices. Rck-mounted deices re not to be used s sheles or work spces. Do not plce objects on top of rck-mounted deices. Ech rck cbinet might he more thn one power cord. Be sure to disconnect ll power cords in the rck cbinet when directed to disconnect power during sericing. Connect ll deices instlled in rck cbinet to power deices instlled in the sme rck cbinet. Do not plug power cord from deice instlled in one rck cbinet into power deice instlled in different rck cbinet. An electricl outlet tht is not correctly wired could plce hzrdous oltge on the metl prts of the system or the deices tht ttch to the system. It is the responsibility of the customer to ensure tht the outlet is correctly wired nd grounded to preent n electricl shock. 16 DANGER Min Protectie Erth (Ground): This symbol is mrked on the frme of the rck. The PROTECTIVE EARTHING CONDUCTORS should be terminted t tht point. A recognized or certified closed loop connector (ring terminl) should be used nd secured to the frme with lock wsher using bolt or stud. The connector should be properly sized to be suitble for the bolt or stud, the locking wsher, the rting for the conducting wire used, nd the considered rting of the breker. The intent is to ensure the frme is electriclly bonded to the PROTECTIVE EARTHING CONDUCTORS. The hole tht the bolt or stud goes into where the terminl conductor nd the lock wsher contct should be free of ny non-conductie mteril to llow for metl to metl contct. All PROTECTIVE EARTHING CONDUCTORS should terminte t this min protectie erthing terminl or t points mrked with. (R010) Specil cution nd sfety notices This informtion describes specil sfety notices tht pply to the SAN Volume Controller. These notices re in ddition to the stndrd sfety notices supplied nd ddress specific issues relent to the equipment proided. Generl sfety When you serice the SAN Volume Controller, follow generl sfety guidelines. Use the following generl rules to ensure sfety to yourself nd others. Obsere good housekeeping in the re where the deices re kept during nd fter mintennce. Follow the guidelines when lifting ny hey object: 1. Ensure tht you cn stnd sfely without slipping. 2. Distribute the weight of the object eqully between your feet. 3. Use slow lifting force. Neer moe suddenly or twist when you ttempt to lift. 4. Lift by stnding or by pushing up with your leg muscles; this ction remoes the strin from the muscles in your bck. Do not ttempt to lift ny objects tht weigh more thn 18 kg (40 lb) or objects tht you think re too hey for you. Do not perform ny ction tht cuses hzrd or mkes the equipment unsfe. Before you strt the deice, ensure tht serice representties nd other personnel re not in hzrdous position. Plce remoed coers nd other prts in sfe plce, wy from ll personnel, while you re sericing the unit. Keep your tool cse wy from wlk res so tht other people cnnot trip oer it. Do not wer loose clothing tht cn be trpped in the moing prts of deice. Ensure tht your sleees re fstened or rolled up boe your elbows. 17 Insert the ends of your necktie or scrf inside clothing or fsten it with nonconducting clip, pproximtely 8 cm (3 in.) from the end. Do not wer jewelry, chins, metl-frme eyeglsses, or metl fsteners for your clothing. Remember: Metl objects re good electricl conductors. Wer sfety glsses when you re hmmering, drilling, soldering, cutting wire, ttching springs, using solents, or working in ny other conditions tht might be hzrdous to your eyes. After serice, reinstll ll sfety shields, gurds, lbels, nd ground wires. Replce ny sfety deice tht is worn or defectie. Reinstll ll coers correctly fter you he finished sericing the unit. Find the room emergency power-off (EPO) switch, disconnecting switch, or electricl outlet. If n electricl ccident occurs, you cn then operte the switch or unplug the power cord quickly. Do not work lone under hzrdous conditions or ner equipment tht hs hzrdous oltges. Disconnect ll power before the following ctiities: Performing mechnicl inspection Working ner power supplies Remoing or instlling min units Before you strt to work on the unit, unplug the power cord. If you cnnot unplug it, sk the customer to power off the wll box tht supplies power to the deice nd to lock the wll box in the off position. If you need to work on deice tht hs exposed electricl circuits, obsere the following precutions: Ensure tht nother person, fmilir with the power-off controls, is ner you. Remember: Another person must be there to switch off the power, if necessry. Use only one hnd when working with electricl equipment tht hs the power turned on; keep the other hnd in your pocket or behind your bck. Remember: There must be complete circuit to cuse electricl shock. By obsering the preious rule, you might preent current from pssing through your body. When using testers, set the controls correctly nd use the pproed probe leds nd ccessories for tht tester. 39 Ethernet ctiity LEDs The Ethernet ctiity LEDs indicte tht the serer is trnsmitting to or receiing signls on the Ethernet ports. Ech LED corresponds to specific port, nd indictes trffic to or from the Ethernet LAN tht is connected to tht port. Ethernet ctiity LED 4 is for ctiity on the Technicin port. Use the Serice Assistnt GUI to see ctiity on this port. Identify button nd LED Press the identify button to mke the LED blink. The identify LED on the bck of the 2145-DH8 lso blinks. To identify node, select it in Monitoring > System Detils in the mngement GUI, then select the Identify ction. The Identify LED turns on. System error LED The mber system-error LED indictes tht system-bord error hs occurred. It lights up if the hrdwre detects ftl error tht requires new field-replceble unit (FRU). Note: See MAP 5800: Light pth to help you isolte the fulty FRU. System informtion LED The system-informtion LED indictes tht noncriticl eent hs occurred. Check the light pth dignostics pnel nd the eent log. Light pth dignostics re described in more detil in the light pth mintennce nlysis procedure (MAP). Relese ltch The relese ltch gies you ccess to the light-pth dignostics pnel, which you cn use to determine the loction of problem. After pressing the relese ltch on the opertor-informtion pnel, you cn slide the light-pth dignostics pnel out to iew the LEDs. The LEDs indicte the type of error tht hs occurred. See MAP 5800: Light pth for more detil. To retrct the pnel, push it bck into the node nd snp it into plce. SAN Volume Controller 2145-DH8 rer-pnel indictors The rer-pnel indictors consist of LEDs tht indicte the sttus of the Fibre Chnnel ports, Ethernet connection nd ctiity, power, electricl current, nd system-bord errors. Becuse the button is recessed, you might need pointed deice, such s screwdrier, to press the power-control button. Verify tht the green power LED is lit. If the LED is not illuminted, see MAP 5000 in the IBM System Storge SAN Volume Controller Troubleshooting Guide to repir the problem. Note: You do not need to instll ny softwre. The node boots utomticlly. The SAN Volume Controller 2145-DH8 runs n extended series of power-on self tests. The node might pper to be idle for up to fie minutes fter powering on. 73 Chpter 3. Instlling the SAN Volume Controller F expnsion enclosure Instlling the support rils for the SAN Volume Controller F Before instlling n enclosure, you must first instll support rils. Procedure To instll the support rils, complete the following steps. 1. Locte the rck mounting rils nd screws (Figure 43). The medium brcket pins re for instlltion in 19-inch IBM rck cbinet. If you re instlling the storge enclosure in non-ibm rck cbinet, you my need to replce the set of medium brcket pins on the front nd rer of the ril with either the smll or lrge brcket pins tht re included in the ril kit. 5. 77 About this tsk CAUTION: To lift nd instll the enclosure into the rck requires t lest two people. Lod the rck from the bottom up to ensure rck stbility. Empty the rck from the top down. Procedure To instll n enclosure, complete the following steps. 1. Align the enclosure with the front of the rck cbinet. 2. Crefully slide the enclosure into the rck long the rils until the enclosure is fully inserted (see Figure 48). Note: The rils re not designed to hold n enclosure tht is prtilly inserted. Connecting the optionl SAN Volume Controller F expnsion enclosures After you instll the F expnsion enclosures into the rck, you must connect them to ech 2145-DH8 node. About this tsk This tsk pplies if you re instlling one or more F expnsion enclosures. Ech pir of 2145-DH8 nodes in the system cn mnge two F expnsion enclosures. Ech expnsion enclosure is ttched through the outbound SAS ports on the nodes, connecting to the inbound port of the expnsion enclosure. Note: When you insert SAS cbles, ensure tht the connector is oriented correctly. When connecting to F expnsion enclosure, the blue pull tb must be below the cble ( 1 in Figure 49). When connecting to 2145-DH8 node, the blue pull tb must be boe the connector ( 2 in Figure 49). Insert the connector gently until it clicks into plce. Next, you initilize the system by using the technicin port. After you crete the system, you must configure it. Checking your web browser settings for the mngement GUI To ccess the mngement GUI, you must ensure tht your web browser is supported nd hs the pproprite settings enbled. If switch is detected, the technicin port connection might shut down, cusing 746 node error. Procedure To initilize the system, complete the following steps. 1. Ensure tht the system is powered on. (Refer to Powering on nd powering off the clustered system in the SAN Volume Controller informtion center.) 2. Configure n Ethernet port on the personl computer to enble Dynmic Host Configurtion Protocol (DHCP) configurtion of its IP ddress nd DNS settings. 3.
