1 BeagleBne Green SeeedStudi BeagleBne Green (BBG) is a lw cst, pen-surce, cmmunity supprted develpment platfrm fr develpers and hbbyists. It is a jint effrt by BeagleBard.rg and Seeed Studi. It is based n the classical pen-surce hardware design f BeagleBne Black and develped int this differentiated versin. The BBG includes tw Grve cnnectrs, making it easier t cnnect t the large family f Grve sensrs. The n-bard HDMI is remved t make rm fr these Grve cnnectrs. Bt Linux in under 10 secnds and get started n develpment in less than 5 minutes with just a single USB cable.

5 PWMs and Timers Nte Up t 8 digital I/O pins can be cnfigured with pulse-width mdulatrs (PWM) t prduce signals t cntrl mtrs r create pseud analg vltage levels, withut taking up any extra CPU cycles.

6 Analg Inputs Nte Make sure yu dn't input mre than 1.8V t the analg input pins. This is a single 12-bit analg-t-digital cnverter with 8 channels, 7 f which are made available n the headers.

7 UART Nte There is a dedicated header fr getting t the UART0 pins and cnnecting a debug cable. Five additinal serial prts are brught t the expansin headers, but ne f them nly has a single directin brught t the headers.

8 I2C Nte The first I2C bus is utilized fr reading EEPROMS n cape add-n bards and can't be used fr ther digital I/O peratins withut interfering with that functin, but yu can still use it t add ther I2C devices at available addresses. The secnd I2C bus is available fr yu t cnfigure and use.

10 Getting Started Nte This chapter is writing under Win10. The steps are familiar fr the ther perate systems. STEP1. Plug in yur BBG via USB Use the prvided micr USB cable t plug yur BBG int yur cmputer. This will bth pwer the bard and prvide a develpment interface. BBG will bt Linux frm the n-bard 2GB r 4GB emmc. BBG will perate as a flash drive prviding yu with a lcal cpy f the dcumentatin and drivers. Nte that this interface may nt be used t re-cnfigure the micrsd card with a new image, but may be used t update the bt parameters using the uenv.txt file. Yu'll see the PWR LED lit steadily. Within 10 secnds, yu shuld see the ther LEDs blinking in their default cnfiguratins. D2 is cnfigured at bt t blink in a heartbeat pattern

Install Drivers Install the drivers fr yur perating system t give yu netwrk-ver-usb access t yur Beagle. Additinal drivers give yu serial access t yur bard. Operating System USB Drivers Cmments Windws (64-bit) Windws (32-bit) 64-bit installer 32-bit installer Mac OS X Netwrk Serial Install bth sets f drivers. Linux mkudevrule.sh Driver installatin isn't required, but yu might find a few udev rules helpful. Nte Fr Windws system, please nte that: Windws Driver Certificatin warning may pp up tw r three times. Click "Ignre", "Install" r "Run" T check if yu're running 32 r 64-bit Windws see this. On systems withut the latest service release, yu may get an errr (0xc000007b). In that case, please install and retry: Yu may need t rebt Windws. Use the arrw keys n yur keybard t navigate the presentatin. Click t launch t yur BBG. Older sftware images require yu t EJECT the BEAGLE_BONE drive t start the netwrk. With the latest sftware image, that step is n lnger required.

Clud9 IDE T begin editing prgrams that live n yur bard, yu can use the Clud9 IDE by click Update t latest sftware Yu need t update the bard t latest sftware t keep a better perfrmance, here we will shw yu hw t make it step by step. STEP1. Dwnlad the latest sftware image First f all, yu have t dwnlad the suitable image here. Nte Due t sizing necessities, this dwnlad may take abut 30 minutes r mre. The file yu dwnlad will have an.img.xz extensin. This is a cmpressed sectr-by-sectr image f the SD card. STEP2. Install cmpressin utility and decmpress the image Dwnlad and install 7-zip.

Nte Chse a versin that suitable fr yur system. Use 7-zip t decmpress the SD card.img file STEP3. Install SD card prgramming utility Dwnlad and install Image Writer fr Windws.

Then use the sftware Image Write fr Windws t write the decmpressed image t yur SD card. Click n Write buttn, then the prcess is started.

13 Nte Chse a versin that suitable fr yur system. Use 7-zip t decmpress the SD card.img file STEP3. Install SD card prgramming utility Dwnlad and install Image Writer fr Windws. Be sure t dwnlad the binary distributin. STEP4. Write the image t yur SD card Yu need a SD adapter t cnnect yur micrsd card t yur cmputer at the first. Then use the sftware Image Write fr Windws t write the decmpressed image t yur SD card. Click n Write buttn, then the prcess is started. Nte Yu may see a warning abut damaging yur device. This is fine t accept as lng as yu are pinting t yur SD card fr writing. Yu shuld nt have yur BeagleBne cnnected t yur cmputer at this time. This prcess may need up t 10 minutes.

If yu desire t write the image t yur n-bard emmc, yu need t launch t the bard, and mdify a file. In /bt/uenv.txt: ##enable BBB: emmc Flasher: #cmdline=init=/pt/scripts/tls/emmc/init-emmc-flasher-v3.

14 STEP5. Bt yur bard ff f the SD card Insert SD card int yur (pwered-dwn first) bard. Then the bard will bt frm the SD card. Nte If yu dn't need t write the image t yur n-bard emmc, yu dn't need t read the last f this chapter. Otherwise please g ahead. If yu desire t write the image t yur n-bard emmc, yu need t launch t the bard, and mdify a file. In /bt/uenv.txt: ##enable BBB: emmc Flasher: #cmdline=init=/pt/scripts/tls/emmc/init-emmc-flasher-v3.sh Change t: ##enable BBB: emmc Flasher: cmdline=init=/pt/scripts/tls/emmc/init-emmc-flasher-v3.sh Then yu will find the 4 user led light as belw Nte If yu dn't find the upper tracing light, please press the RESET buttn t reset the bard. When the flashing is cmplete, all 4 USRx LEDs will be ff. The latest Debian flasher images autmatically pwer dwn the bard upn cmpletin. This can take up t 10 minutes. Pwer-dwn yur bard, remve the SD card and apply pwer again t be cmplete. Grve fr BBG Grve is a mdular, standardized cnnecter prttyping system. Grve takes a building blck apprach t assembling electrnics. Cmpared t the jumper r slder based system, it is easier t cnnect, experiment and build and simplifies the learning system, but nt t the pint where it becmes dumbed dwn. Sme f the ther prttype systems ut there takes the level dwn t building blcks. Gd stuff t be learned that way, but the Grve system allws yu t build real systems. It requires sme learning and expertise t hk things up.

We have updated the emmc n Beaglebne Green in S the previus firmware fr BBG1 is nt wrkable n BBG2, but the new firmware is k n BBG1 and BBG2. 2. Smetimes the BBG's netwrk prt des nt wrk and must be restarted t resume wrk. Occasinally this happens. Please replace a stable pwer supply and try again. Usually mbile phne USB pwer adapter is mre stable than that cmputer USB. Or yu can remve the capacitr C162.
