Fr full instructins n using the sftware and the hardware, please see the User's Manual and ther dcuments prvided with this prduct. 2. System Requirements The fllwing is a list f recmmendatins fr the cnfiguratin f the hst machine that runs the PCIe Prtcl Suite applicatin and that is cnnected t the analyzer/exerciser hardware. Please nte that the applicatin wuld perate n systems with less memry and slwer CPU rate than the recmmended; hwever, fr best results it is recmmended that the hst machine meets r exceeds the suggested cnfiguratin.

2 2.1. Sftware Operating System: Micrsft Windws XP, Windws Vista 32, Windws Vista 64, Windws 7 32, Windws Hardware Prcessr: Fr ptimum perfrmance, use prcessrs with clck speed f 1GHz r higher. Memry: Fr the best perfrmance, it is recmmended t have physical RAM f 2GB. Hard Disk: At least 250MB f free hard disk space is required fr the installatin f the PETracer sftware. Additinal disk space is needed fr the peratin f the applicatin and fr string the recrded data in files during the recrdings prcess (can be ver 8 GB when recrding a full buffer size). Display: Reslutin f at least 1024 x 768 with 16-bit clr is recmmended. Cnnectivity: A USB interface is required (USB 2.0 high speed preferred) t cnnect t the PETracer Edge, PETracerML, PETrainerML, PETrainer EML TM r PETracerEML. An Ethernet netwrk interface is required fr PETracer Summit. This is nt a requirement if the PETracer applicatin is ging t be used nly as a trace viewer. 3. Release Ntes 3.1. Driver installatin PETracer EML requires 3 USB drivers t be installed in the system t perate prperly. When PETracer EML is cnnected t a USB prt the first time it may take a lng time fr driver t be installed and may cause

7 internal timeut in the PETracer sftware and the unit may nt appear even after all drivers are installed prperly. Restart the PETracer sftware t fix this issue. Trigger n LCRC - Fault triggering n LCRC errr fr packet size 1024 DWrds. Timestamp Accuracy - When using tw PETracer ML analyzer units t analyze a bidirectinal PCI Express link, timestamps between the upstream and dwnstream directins f the link can be skewed up t 30 symbl times (120 ns) at any pint in the recrding. Hwever, the timestamps between upstream and dwnstream link directins will NOT exhibit any clck drift ver lng recrding perids. Sequencer Limitatins - When using tw PETracer ML analyzer units t analyze a bidirectinal PCI Express link, event cunting and sequencing is applied nly t events that ccur in a single link directin (fr example, sequencing based n event A dwnstream fllwed by event B upstream is nt supprted). If a spread spectrum reference clck must be used, the JP2 jumper shuld be installed n the device emulatin card. This will allw the PETrainer SerDes t track the frequency shift n mst systems. Fr Hst emulatin the Nn-SSC clck surce shuld be enabled n the frnt panel f the Hst Emulatr. BusEngine update during BusEngine update the sftware may appear t be frzen and nn-respnsive. Knwn Prblems and Issues PETrainer ML Generatin hang-up - Generatin hangs when generating TLP->DLLP->TLP traffic. Wrkarund: insert wait r idle between the packets. Spread Spectrum clcks The use f a spread spectrum reference clck may cause the PETrainer peratin t be unreliable. It is recmmended than a nnspread spectrum reference clck is used. If a spread spectrum reference clck must be used, the Use external reference clck selectin shuld be enabled in the generatin ptins. This will allw the PETrainer SerDes t track the frequency shift n mst systems. Reference Clck Requirements - When using the External Reference clck, the PETrainer ML may lck up when the pwer t the DUT r Hst Emulatin Test fixture is cycled. 10 There are several sample prjects included with the applicatin. T run them, yu shuld make sure that the PCIe Prtcl Suite applicatin is already installed. The library file name t be used is: PEAutmatin.tlb. HTML Sample: Fr editing the HTML sample cde yu can use a text editr r ther HTML-editing tls. CPP sample: 1. T cmpile the Visual C++ sample prject yu first need t install the Micrsft Visual Studi. 2. Yu can select t install the PCIe Prtcl Suite sftware in a directry different than the default ne. If yu chse t d s, make sure yu add a path t the installatin directry in yur prject s paths list. Yu can find the PEAutmatin.tlb file in the installatin directry. When using Micrsft Visual Studi, the path t the installatin directry shuld be added t the fllwing places in the Prject Settings prperty sheet: (1) Under C/C++ tab, Preprcessr categry in the Additinal include directries. (2) Under Resurces tab, in the Additinal resurce include directries. When a remte server is discnnected abruptly while a client applicatin is still cnnected, the client applicatin might hang up fr several minutes.
