General Release Infrmatin These prduct release ntes define the new features, changes, knwn issues and release details that apply t the ExpressSAS Hst adapter prducts v2.02 that was released n July 25, This infrmatin pertains t the fllwing Mac perating systems: Mac OS X 10.5, and later, fr PwerPC and Intel systems.. 2. Changes Versin 2.02 (Released 7/25/12) Nte: It is recmmended that firmware dated 5/21/2012 be used with this driver release. Mac OS X Muntain Lin (10.8) Supprt. This driver versin des nt supprt OS X Tiger (10.4), r earlier. Crrected an intermittent issue that caused a kernel panic when waking frm sleep. Crrected several issues with staggered spin-up and ht plugging SAS and SATA drives n the same PHY that culd cause unnecessary link resets. Crrected an issue with bus resets that wuld prevent additinal bus resets frm wrking prperly. Crrected an issue that culd result in device reprting errrs. Versin 2.01 (Released 4/23/12) Nte: It is recmmended that firmware dated 9/27/11 be utilized with this driver release. Crrected imprperly frmatted sense data when a successful ATA PASS THROUGH cmmand requests it fr an ATA cmmand using the PIO Data In prtcl. Added supprt fr the atreset, atdevupd, and atsastp CLI tls. The default device wait time when resuming frm sleep has been increased t 15 secnds. The driver will again lad n OS X versins prir t Crrected issues during cntrller reset recvery where discvery may be suspended until the device wait time expires. Crrected an issue with SGPIO peratin where an incrrect data length was reprted t applicatins perfrming SMP GPIO cmmands. Crrected several lcking issues intrduced in the previus release that culd cause the driver t hang. Crrected several crashes and hangs that culd ccur during Thunderblt ht plugging. Added a wrkarund s SATA ht plugging wrks when staggered spinup is enabled. Fixed supprt fr SATA drives with nn-512 byte sectr sizes. Added a wrkarund fr devices that reprt imprper Inquiry data such that OS X finds LUNs that d nt exist. These LUNs were displayed in the Cnfiguratin Tl as LUN??.

2 Versin 2.00 (Released 1/17/12) Nte: It is recmmended that firmware dated 9/27/11 be utilized with this driver release. Thunderblt ht plugging is supprted. Added a dynamic executin thrttle t handle device queue full and busy cnditins (multipathing nly). Added MSI supprt fr 64-bit platfrms. Added SCSI-t-ATA translatin fr the FORMAT UNIT cmmand. See Knwn Issues belw fr additinal infrmatin n SAT cmpliance. The default number f supprted targets has been increased frm 256 t 512. Added a wrkarund fr Seagate Cnstellatin drives nt sending a signature FIS n cable re-plug by resetting the PHY. Versin 1.64 (Released 9/29/11) Nte: It is recmmended that firmware dated 9/27/11 be utilized with this driver release. Crrected a SATA NCQ prcessing issue intrduced in the previus release that culd result in stalled I/O. The STP idle time has been lwered t imprve SATA perfrmance behind an expander. Several enhancements have been made t imprve errr reprting and peratin in degraded mde. Crrected an errr in expander ruting that culd cause devices t be ruted in the wrng rder in cmplex tree-like tplgies. This prevents temprarily invalid ruting tables in multi-initiatr tplgies. Discvery has been enhanced t accunt fr multiple link rates thrughut the tplgy. The lwest link rate in a wide prt is used fr all cnnectins. If the link rate changes, the new rate will take effect when rediscvery cmpletes. If a path t an expander has a lwer link rate than the expander t SATA device link, the SATA device is ignred since a cnnectin cannt be pened. SATA device resets during discvery have been replaced by SMP PHY Cntrl hard resets t imprve reliability. SGPIO initializatin has been updated t prevent the driver frm entering degraded mde with 1.11 and later cntrller firmware. Versin 1.62 (Released 6/2/11) Nte: It is recmmended that firmware dated 5/19/11 be utilized with this driver release. Crrected tw issues with SATA NCQ prcessing under heavy lad that culd result in temprarily slw r permanently stalled I/O. Versin 1.51 (Released 8/20/10) Nte: It is recmmended that firmware dated 7/27/10 be utilized with this driver release. Enhanced Discvery Prcess by delaying certain SATA cmmands, while discvery is in prgress. Enhanced cnfiguratin discvery fr expanders that are actively self cnfiguring. Updated the SMP cnnectin time and PHY transmitter settings fr increased uptime. Imprved recvery fr Initiatr t Target errrs with expanders. Crrected an issue where task management culd fail because a device errr culd nt be recvered at the same time. Crrected an issue where a SATA cmmand that was abrted and then retried culd be errneusly abrted again. Enhanced SATA device retries fr parity errrs. Versin 1.32 (Released 3/31/10) Nte: It is recmmended that firmware dated 3/26/10 be utilized with this driver release. The fllwing applies t changes made frm release v1.31 t 1.32 Enhanced interperability fr SuperMicr chassis with expanders. When an IDENTIFY frame timeut ccurs n an expander and/r a cntrller PHY, a link reset is issued t each PHY t attempt link recvery. Imprved cntrller initializatin t allw backup firmware built int the driver t lad when the firmware in flash is crrupt. The SMP API has been updated t allw access t the SGPIO interfaces n the cntrller. Firmware versin 1.09 is required fr SGPIO peratin. Task management timeut enhancements. Imprved device discvery during initial driver startup. Additinal events have been added fr SMP cmmand errrs. CSMI interface imprvements fr reprting an unknwn SAS prt fr a PHY whse link is dwn. Versin 1.20 (Released 07/31/2009) Nte: It is recmmended that firmware dated 07/29/09 be utilized with this driver release. The fllwing applies t changes made frm release v1.10 t 1.20 Dcumented supprt fr Snw Lepard. Enhanced firmware which cntributed in an up t 25% increase in thrughput. Added the Read/Write Time Out Duratin prperties t specify timeuts fr read/write cmmands. The timeut value is 30 secnds. This timeut applies nly t devices fr which Mac OS X prvides an in-bx driver (SCSI device types 0, 5, 7, and 14). The supprted expander chain depth was increased frm 8 t 10. Transprt layer retries are explicitly enabled n all cmmands fr SAS 2.0 cmpliant devices instead f being enabled in the device s mde pages. All cmmand retries are disabled fr sequential (e.g. tape) devices. SMP PHY Cntrl cmmand fr clearing SATA affiliatins imprved. Uses the hard reset functin instead f the clear affiliatin functin. Expander enhancements which include discvery prcess rerganizatin fr clearing SATA affiliatins. All devices reprted t the OS will have sequential target IDs starting with zer. The OPEN REJECT RETRY interval is set t 5 µs Versin 1.10 (Released 03/24/2009) Nte: It is recmmended that firmware dated 03/20/09 be utilized with this driver release. The fllwing applies t changes made frm release v1.01 t 1.10 Added the Device Name field t the SAS Identify Address Frame (an ptinal field added in SAS 2.0). Reslved an issue during initial device discvery that culd result in a driver crash if the device rejects a discvery cmmand.

Reslved any unexpected target ID changes after a cable pull and reinsertin, when a SATA device is cnnected behind a expander. Versin 1.00 (Released 12/11/2008) Nte: It is recmmended that firmware dated 12/05/08 be utilized with this driver release. The fllwing applies t release v1.00 Initial release f ExpressSAS H608 and H Knwn Issues/Advisements Please refer t the DOS release ntes fr any knwn firmware issues. Driver versin 2.02 des nt supprt OS X Tiger (10.4), r earlier. The driver is nt fully SAT cmpliant (SCSI-t-ATA Translatin fr SATA supprt). The fllwing SCSI cmmands are nt translated: UNMAP, REASSIGN BLOCKS, SECURITY PROTOCOL IN, and SECURITY PROTOCOL OUT. There is n knwn user impact. Deep sleep is supprted nly n Intel Macs. PwerPC Macs will sleep, but nt deep sleep, s the sleep light will nt pulsate. The nly side effect is that when PwerPC systems are put t sleep, the fan speed will increase t the max until the system is awakened. 4.
