Coexistence with other operating systems Other operating systems can coexist on a UnixWare 7 system. Licensing With UnixWare 7, icensing is handed in a new way. Rather than purchasing a icense for each feature or service, purpose-buit icenses are used. With this method, systems have a singe icense for a group of services. These services are grouped according to what wi be needed for a particuar environment. These groups of features are referred to as editions. The processor upgrade increases the number of supported CPUs to a maximum of 32. Maximum supported RAM varies by edition, and upgrades can be used to bring RAM support to the 4GB or 64GB eves if needed. A future enhancement is panned to the icensing mechanism in which icenses wi be generated based on the services required for each particuar environment rather than having preconfigured editions. Licensing Configurations The foowing UnixWare 7 editions are currenty avaiabe: Base Edition Departmenta Edition Enterprise Edition Messaging Edition For an updated isting of avaiabe editions, see w. Base Edition The Base Edition incudes a one-user icense. Support for two processors is buit in. It supports RAM up to 512MB. Networking features are incuded, aong with SCO ARCserve/Open Lite for data backup and restoration. The Base Edition is a good basic system that, with add-ons, is suitabe for dedicated and repicated environments. It is aso suitabe for genera workstation use. Departmenta Edition The Departmenta Edition offers a 25-user icense and support for two CPUs as we as buit-in capabiities for up to 4GB of RAM. It incudes SCO VisionFS, which aows Windows Fie and Print Sharing, as we as a fu version of SCO ARCserve/Open, which can be used for unattended backups. This edition is meant for medium to arge business computing. It functions as an effective appication and database server, and, with VisionFS, is we suited to environments in which users have Windows-based PCs. Enterprise Edition The Enterprise Edition incudes a 50-user icense and support for four processors. It supports up to 64GB of RAM and incudes SCO VisionFS for Windows Fie and Print Services. A fu version of SCO ARCserve/Open provides utiities for backup and restoration of data as we as unattended backups. The buit-in data mirroring and striping give this configuration the fexibiity and reiabiity needed for a businesscritica system. Messaging Edition The Messaging Edition provides a one-user icense, buit-in support for two processors, and 4GB RAM support. It has a fu version of SCO ARCserve/Open and adds the Netscape Mai Server and 50 Netscape maibox icenses. This configuration is we suited for use as a high-performance, ready-to-depoy messaging server. Optiona Services The Optiona Services are a group of products that work with UnixWare 7 to add on to the buit-in capabiities. Universa Deveopment Kit The Universa Deveopment Kit (UDK) provides deveopment toos for Java, C, and C++ programming. It runs on UnixWare 7, SCO OpenServer 5, and SCO UnixWare 2.1, which enabes you to write a singe appication for depoyment over three operating systems. For more information on the Java toos, see the Java Deveopment Kit (JDK) in Chapter 1, "Why UnixWare 7?" Netscape Proxy Server 2.5 The Netscape Proxy Server heps reduce the oad on a busy intranet or Internet server. It aows administrators to repicate WWW servers and distribute them throughout the network, reducing both network traffic and user wait times. It provides increased network security by controing access to data, and it fiters content to increase user productivity. Netscape LiveWire 1.0 Netscape LiveWire is a set of toos that aows deveopers to create programs that reside on the server, and aows browsers to run database appications. It can be used to provide search and update access to reationa databases through a browser. Netscape Messaging Server 3.5 The Netscape Messaging Server provides the abiity to communicate with virtuay a mai systems and gateways. It offers superior performance in speed-of-message processing, queue handing, and power of directory ookups. It aso can hande mai with embedded sound, graphics, video fies, HTML forms, Java appets, and desktop appications. Netscape Directory Server 3.0 The Netscape Directory Server is a Lightweight Directory Access Protoco (LDAP) cient that gives administrators of Netscape servers a singe management point for users, groups, and other shared fie://i:\chapters\z\zd601.htm 3/21/01

This product is avaiabe with the Messaging Edition. NetWare Services 4.10 This component can be used to provide both UnixWare 7 and SCO UnixWare 2.1 with Nove NetWare 4.10a Fie, Print, and Directory Services, which aow NetWare cients to transparenty access a UnixWare 7 server. This means that a UnixWare 7 server can be introduced into an existing Nove environment without necessitating any reconfiguration. A 0 user version of NWS is provided with a UnixWare 7 editions. Tarantea Tarantea software provides the capabiity for appications to be deivered to any cient, without any additiona software needed on the cient side. Tarantea offers simpe access to network computing capabiities, particuary in heterogeneous networks. A singe-user version of Tarantea is provided with a UnixWare 7 editions. Tarantea aows cients to run appications through a Web browser. It acts as an intermediary between the servers running the appications and the cients accessing them. Tarantea uses a speciay deveoped protoco, Adaptive Internet Protoco (AIP), to constanty reevauate communication conditions in order to deiver data in the most efficient manner. AIP makes possibe the dispay of graphics on very sow networks. For more on Tarantea, visit tarantea.sco.com. SCO Advanced Fie and Print Server 4.0 SCO Advanced Fie and Print Server (AFPS) enabes fie and printer sharing with PCs running Windows (3.x, 95, or NT), OS/2, and MS-DOS. It has peer-to-peer compatibiity with Microsoft NT 4.0, which aows a UNIX system to appear as an NT server to desktop cients. AFPS performs as either a Primary or Backup Domain Controer in an NT 4.0 environment. AFPS is perfect for environments requiring UNIX-to-Windows NT domain integration. SCO ARCserve/Open from Cheyenne 2.2 This product provides data backup, restoration, and data management capabiities for networked environments. It offers unattended, automated backup management, muticient and server network backup and restore, high-capacity data storage, and support for onine backup of mission critica databases. These features make it idea for arge servers and heterogeneous networks. UnixWare 7 ReiantHA 1.1 The newest ReiantHA software for UnixWare 7 is a nonproprietary soution, which supports off-theshef soutions for networking and RAID. It provides high-avaiabiity data processing through oosey couped custering. ReiantHA does not use redundant systems and peripheras; therefore, a the nodes in a custer are usabe. UnixWare 7 Onine Data Manager 3.2 The Onine Data Manager offers software RAID support for eves 0, 1, 5, and 10 (see Chapter 2 for fie://i:\chapters\z\zd601.htm 3/21/01

It aso incudes disk-spanning capabiities, which aow singe fies and fiesystems to span mutipe physica devices. Fiesystem resizing, migration, and RAID eve changes can be performed whie the system is onine. UnixWare 7 Disk Mirroring 3.2 Disk mirroring increases data avaiabiity by buiding in faut toerance against disk faiures. When disk mirroring is enabed on a system with two disks, a singe disk faiure wi not resut in any data oss or even a period of unavaiabiity because a compete dupicate of the ost disk is in pace and ready to use. Disk mirroring aso provides faster access because it can perform overapping reads. For more on disk mirroring (RAID-1), see Chapter 2. ReaNetworks Severa ReaNetworks products are avaiabe for UnixWare 7. They aow deivery of ive and ondemand ReaAudio and ReaVideo broadcasts on the Internet. For individuas and sma workgroups, the ReaNetworks Basic Server Pus 5.0 offers a ow-cost, easy-to-use streaming media server soution. It is avaiabe icensed as part of the operating system and can be instaed from the Optiona Services CD-ROM. ReaNetworks ReaSystem 5.0 Internet and intranet products are aso avaiabe for those requiring a more compete and powerfu server. The ReaNetworks ReaAudio 3.1 Encoder is icensed as part of the operating system and is avaiabe at no extra charge. It can be instaed from the Optiona Services CD-ROM. This product aows encoding of audio signas for broadcast through the ReaNetworks Basic Server Pus or ReaSystem 5.0 servers. Evauation Licensing If you insta UnixWare 7 and choose to defer icensing, or insta products that are not incuded in the icense you purchased, a 60-day evauation icense is generated for most unicensed packages. The evauation icense seects the packages and services incuded in the Departmenta Edition as a defaut configuration. When a icense is purchased, the evauation icense needs to be removed, and the software needs to be reicensed. New icenses can be appied through the SCOadmin License Manager. Free UnixWare 7 A free, one-user icense for non-commercia or educationa use is avaiabe through SCO s Web site. The UnixWare 7 Media Kit can be purchased for a sma cost. Free UnixWare 7 icenses are avaiabe at Licensing Terms There are some new terms to go aong with the new icensing methodoogy. An End User Licensing Agreement (EULA) is the agreement between SCO and the customer about the use of the software. The Certificate of License Authority (COLA) refers to the "extent of use" that appies to the purchase of a singe icense. fie://i:\chapters\z\zd601.htm 3/21/01

This coud be a singe office, an office buiding, or an adjacent grouping of severa buidings. An edition of a user icense for UnixWare 7 can be converted into a Network User License (NUL) by registering it on the NUL Web site. To access the NUL site, go to and seect the option to upgrade user icenses to NULs. NULs aow a set number of users to concurrenty access a UnixWare 7 servers at a singe networked site. For instance, if two networked servers each had 50 user icenses, converting to NULs woud aow 100 users to access both servers. AUTHOR S NOTE: When keeping a standby system, it is not necessary to dupicate the NULs for the standby system; but separate icenses are required depending on whether the standby system is powered on concurrenty with the main system. If the two systems wi be running concurrenty, a separate icense is needed. If the standby system is stored with the power off, it is acceptabe to use the standby system as an "archive copy" and not purchase an additiona icense. System Profies At insta time, there are four system profies from which to choose: License-Based Defauts Sma Footprint Fu Customize License-Based Defauts By seecting to insta based on the icense information entered, you can be certain that no unicensed software wi be instaed on your system. Sma Footprint Server The Sma Footprint option is offered as a soution for systems with imited memory and disk space. It can be instaed on systems with as itte as 16MB of RAM and 300MB avaiabe on the UNIX partition. The services are optimized for systems with imited resources. Networking utiities are incuded aong with the base operating system. Sma Footprint instaation does not, however, contain graphics support, nor does it incude SCO ARCserve/Open. Verifying that the settings for system resources are at acceptabe eves is recommended before going on with the insta. Fu (A Packages) When a Fu insta is chosen, a services and packages on the instaation media, except for fie://i:\chapters\z\zd601.htm 3/21/01

This does not, however, mean that a of the instaed packages are icensed. See the "Evauation Licensing" section earier in the chapter on free evauation icensing. Customize Instaation of Packages The Customize option aows you to seect and deseect the packages to be instaed. The defauts offered are based on the configuration of the icense entered. Additiona packages seected for which no icense has yet been purchased can be tried for 60 days with evauation icensing, as expained in the "Evauation Licensing" section. When the Customize profie is used, it seects by defaut the packages incuded in the ast profie seection made. It wi initiay incude the icense-based defauts profie if no profies have yet been seected. Information Required at Insta Before beginning an instaation there are severa pieces of information that shoud be obtained. Uness an evauation icense is being instaed, the icense information (License Number, License Code, and License Data, if shown on your icense sheet) wi be needed during the instaation. You shoud aso know the node name for the system being instaed, its IP address, and the domain name, as we as the mode of network card being used if you are instaing for network usage. It is possibe to defer network configuration unti after instaation. In the case of a network insta, some information is needed about the insta server. For a TCP/IP insta, you wi need to know the netmask, defaut router, and server IP address. For an IPX insta, you wi be asked for the frame type and IPX server. If the server is not known, a search wi be made for a server. For a compete account of the questions that must be answered at insta time, see Chapter 4, "Instaation of UnixWare 7." Printed Documentation for Insta Severa pieces of documentation are incuded in the media kit. They are the Instaation Guide, Runtime Reease Notes, and System Handbook. You can check SCO s Web site for the most up-todate information. A SCOhep documentation is avaiabe on the Web at doc.sco.com. Instaation Guide The Instaation Guide contains information to hep you before, during, and immediatey after the insta, and provides some configuration instructions. Appendix B of the Instaation Guide provides a ist of the HBAs buit into UnixWare 7 and the devices they support. Runtime Reease Notes The Runtime Reease Notes have the atest information about instaation, as we as up-to-date data on hardware, incuding a fu tabe of supported devices. System Handbook The System Handbook picks up after the insta with common administration tasks. It discusses the responsibiities of the system administrator and briefy covers such basic tasks as user management, system startup and shutdown, deaing with fie systems, and configuring peripheras. CD Documentation In addition to the printed documentation, a fu set of UnixWare 7 documentation is incuded on the insta CD. Aso incuded are the man pages, which provide comprehensive information on commands, and the Web-based SCOhep documentation, which encompasses a of the UnixWare 7 manuas. See Chapter 5, "Consoe Administration, Logins, and SCOadmin," for more on onine documentation. Fiesystems, Sices, and Sizes A UnixWare 7 disk can be divided into contiguous data areas caed partitions. For better management, partitions are divided into contiguous sections caed sices. Sices can contain fiesystems or swap space, or can be eft for organization by an appication. When instaing a new non-root drive, each partition can have a maximum of 184 sices. A primary partition can contain more than the defaut 16 sices, but you wi have to use prtvtoc and edvtoc to do this after it is instaed. A maximum of two disks can be configured at the time of system instaation. The maximum fiesystem size or fie size under vxfs is 1TB. See Chapter 17, "User Administration," for further discussion of fiesystems. Coexistence with Other Operating Systems A UnixWare 7 system can have from one to four partitions. This aows other operating systems (OSs) to reside in their own partitions.
