6 Chapter 1 Introduction Identifying Probems The Eaton Advanced Encosure Power Distribution Unit (epdu ) is an inteigent epdu that is designed to distribute power within a standard 19-inch rack. A wide range of modes et you connect and manage C13 and C19 outets from a singe power connection. This document describes troubeshooting probems you might encounter with epdu hardware and firmware setup and operation. Information is provided to assist you in identifying probems, suggesting actions you might take to resove the probem, and cearing expired aarm notifications. The system provides a rich troubeshooting tooset to hep isoate and anayze probems that affect or prevent proper epdu operation. Some significant probem isoation toos for epdu troubeshooting are: Hardware power outet LEDs on the epdu that indicate current operating status epdu operation notifications through the epdu LCD pane or the epdu management software appication Web interface E-mai notification of an event history og Checking the Power Outet LEDs on the epdu Power outets are arranged in groups caed factory groups and are coor-coded on each epdu mode. LEDs for each factory group are ocated on the top surface of the epdu (see Figure 1). The dispay mode of a status LED indicates the current epdu operating status: LED is iuminated (On) when an outet is powered LED is Off if an outet is unpowered LED fashes On and Off when an outet or factory group aarm is triggered Power Outet LEDs Power Outet LEDs Power Outet LEDs Power Outets Bue Outet ID (Group C) Power Outets Yeow Outet ID (Group B) Power Outets Red Outet ID (Group A) Figure 1. Power Outet s LEDs (ema007 Mode Shown) Checking for Software Notification Aerts on the Interfaces The epdu is designed for durabe, automatic operation. If a potentia operating probem occurs, the epdu issues a software notification to aert you. Notifications are provided on the epdu LCD pane interface and the epdu Network Management Card Web interface. The epdu seria interface is usefu, but it does not provide software notification aerts. The seria interface is primariy used for initia startup and configuration. However, you can use this interface to retrieve and reset current meters, measurements, or threshod vaues to correct probems caused by existing configuration settings. 7 Introduction Aarm and event software notification aerts are provided in this document. Aarm messages indicate a faut condition is active or imminent. Aarms dispay on both interfaces and are recorded in the event og. Aarms require a response. Event messages are conditions recorded in the event og as status information, such as Power On. Events dispay on both interfaces and are recorded in the event og. Events do not require a response. Aarms and events are recorded in the event og as records of when aerts occurred and, if appicabe, when they were ceared. Error messages are incuded in this document, but they are not software notification aerts. They dispay due to incorrect entries or faied processes. The error message prompts you to provide correct information or retry an operation. LCD Pane The epdu has a three-button, graphica LCD pane. The LCD pane is ocated on the top surface of the epdu (see Figure 2). You can use this interface to retrieve current epdu aarm data or to change epdu operation settings to resove certain epdu probems. Aarms can aso dispay automaticay. For exampe, the dispay can show active aarms as they occur, or particuar dispays may update due to a change in operating state. Figure 2. epdu LCD Pane and Contro Buttons Web Interface The epdu Network Management Card Web interface aows you to remotey connect to epdus using a PC with an Ethernet connection to an internet browser. If the epdu is experiencing active system aarms, the Web interface prominenty dispays aarm information (see Figure 3): In the Menu Bar, the text for active aarms is red. In the Refresh Bar at the bottom of the window, an aarm notification message dispays. Opening the Active Aarms page from the Menu Bar provides a ist of the current active aarms. 9 Introduction Resoving Probems After the issue is identified and isoated, try to determine the root cause and then resove the probem. For exampe, the issue may be a physica or mechanica probem, a probem with connectivity, or a probem with the existing settings for vaue ranges and threshods. First, check the troubeshooting reference tabes in the Troubeshooting chapter in this document. There are eight tabes associated with different categories of probems. Find the tabe that is associated with the type of probem you are investigating, incuding the foowing: Power Outets Chassis and Instaation Circuit Breakers LCD Aarms COM Ports epdu Web Interface Aarm and Events Error Messages Accessories Each tabe has three coumns defining probems or specifying interface messages, providing possibe root causes, and suggesting actions that may hep you sove probems. If you cannot find a resoution to a probem in the tabes, contact customer service or a oca representative for guidance or product part repacement. Cearing Aarm Notifications The are severa ways to cear aarm notifications. For exampe, you can cear accumuated events from the Event Log dispay on epdu interfaces or suppress binking aarm indicators on the epdu. Cear the Web Interface Event Log To cear the Event Log, go to the epdu Web interface menu bar and seect Logs under Logs & Notifications. The Logs page dispays the current Event Log. Cick Cear.
