21 What is LVD? LVD is the newest physica interface in the SCSI roadmap The physica interface deas w/ max. bus ength, termination requirements, # of devices supported, cabing, etc. Other physica interfaces for SCSI incude singe-ended and high votage differentia (HVD, a.k.a. differentia) LVD provides improved signa integrity

22 What is LVD? Maximum bus ength of up to 12 meters Up to 16 devices 1 initiator & 15 targets

LVD is muti-mode capabe It is fuy compatibe with singe-ended An LVD device wi autosense down to singe-ended if attached to a singeended host bus adapter If an LVD device and a singe-ended device are attached to the same LVD host bus adapter, both devices operate as singe-ended devices

24 What LVD is NOT LVD is not a SCSI signaing protoco SCSI protocos define message system requirements, bus speeds and max. data transfer rates SCSI-1, Fast SCSI, Utra and Utra2 are SCSI protocos ( wide is a subset) LVD and Utra/Utra2 are not the same thing! But, Utra2 devices use ony the LVD interface

27 Key Point of LVD If you put a tape drive with LVD interface on the same bus with Utra2 disk drives (or other Utra2 devices, ike Mammoth 2), you wi not drag down the performance of the Utra2 devices
