2 Sfety Precutions Follow the wrnings nd precutions below to use the printer sfely. Do not perform ny opertions or procedures other thn s described in this mnul. Doing so my result in unexpected ccidents nd cn cuse fi re or electricl shocks. Wrning Printer loction Do not set up the printer in ny loction exposed to lcohol, thinner, or other voltile liquids. If these substnces come into contct with electricl components inside the printer, there is risk of fi re or electricl shock. Power Supply Never hndle the power cble with wet hnds. Doing so my cuse electricl shock. Insert the power cble securely nd completely into the power source. If the power cble is not inserted completely, this could cuse fi re or electricl shock. Do not use ny power cble other thn the one provided. This could cuse fi re or electricl shock. Never use the power cble with ny other electricl device. Never cut the power cble or ttempt to modify it, nd never stretch it or bend it forcefully. Never plce hevy object on the power cble. Dmged sections of the power cble could cuse short circuit nd my cuse fi re or electricl shock. Never connect the power cble to power strip or ny power source shred by other electricl devices. This could cuse fi re or electricl shock. Never knot the power cble or wrp it round itself. This could cuse fi re or electricl shock. Periodiclly disconnect the power cble nd use dry cloth to wipe wy dust tht hs collected on the plug nd the re round the power outlet. Leving the power cble plugged in nd not clened for long period, especilly in n re subject to dust, oil, nd humidity, could cuse the insultion mteril to deteriorte nd led to fi re. In n Emergency Pcemkers If the printer emits smoke or strnge odors, continuing to use the printer my cuse fi re or electricl shock. Switch the printer off immeditely nd remove the power plug from the power outlet. Contct the nerest service center. Clening the Printer For clening, use cloth dmpened in wter. Never use fl mmble solvents such s lcohol, benzene, or thinner. If these substnces come into contct with electricl components inside the printer, there is risk of fi re or electricl shock. This printer genertes low-level mgnetic fi eld. Anyone wering pcemker who experiences discomfort while working round the printer should leve the re. Consult physicin before continuing to work round the printer. 2

3 Sfety Precutions Cution Printer loction Never instll the printer on n unstble or vibrting surfce. If it flls over, this could cuse personl injury. Never set up the printer in loction tht is exposed to high humidity or lrge mounts of dust, or exposed to direct sunlight, high temperture, or open fl me. This could cuse fi re or electricl shock. Use the printer loction in n environment where temperture nd humidity re within the rnges of 15 C to 30 C (59 F to 86 F) nd 10 to 80% RH (with no condenstion). Never plce the printer on hevy wool or shg crpet. The fi bers my enter the printer nd cuse fi re. Keep the re round the power outlet cler of items so tht you cn disconnect the power cble immeditely if the printer strts operting bnormlly. In the event of printer mlfunction, remove the power cble from the outlet s soon s possible to prevent fi re nd electricl shocks. Do not instll the printer ner sources of strong electromgnetic fi elds, whether equipment tht genertes such fi elds or plces where such fi elds occur. This could dmge the printer or cuse mlfunction. Moving the Printer The weights of min printer units re s follows: ipf750 or ipf755: pprox. 52 kg (115 lb) ipf650 or ipf655: pprox. 43 kg (95 lb) Moving the printer requires t lest three people, holding it on both sides nd from behind. Be creful to void bck strin nd other injuries. When moving the printer, firmly grsp the Crrying Hndles under ech side nd in bck. Holding the printer t other positions is dngerous nd poses risk of injury nd dmge if the printer is dropped. Power Supply Alwys grip the plug to remove the power cble from the power outlet. Pulling on the power cble could dmge the cble nd led to fi re or electricl shock. Never use n extension cord. This could cuse fi re or electricl shock. Never use ny power source other thn / V AC. This could cuse fi re or electricl shock. The printer operting conditions re described below. Use the printer under the following conditions. Power supply voltge: / V AC Power supply frequency: 50/60Hz Clening the Printer Alwys disconnect the power cble from the outlet before clening the printer. If the printer is switched on ccidentlly, moving prts inside the printer my cuse personl injuries. Printhed, Ink Tnks, nd Mintennce Crtridge Alwys store consumbles in sfe loction out of the rech of smll children. If child licks or ingests ink ccidentlly, seek medicl ssistnce immeditely. If ink ccidentlly gets in your eyes, immeditely rinse with wter. If ink gets on your skin, immeditely clen it off with sop nd wter. If irrittion persists in your eyes or on your skin, contct physicin immeditely. Avoid dropping or shking printheds, ink tnks, nd mintennce crtridges. Spilled ink cn stin clothing nd the work re. Never touch the electricl contcts of the Printhed fter printing. The contcts become extremely hot nd cn cuse minor burns. 3

4 Sfety Precutions Other Never disssemble the printer or ttempt repirs. There re high voltge prts inside the printer tht cn cuse fi re or electricl shock. Never use fl mmble sprys round the printer. The gs of fl mmble sprys cn cuse fi re or electricl shock, if it contcts high voltge points inside the printer. Never insert your hnd into the printer while it is printing. Moving prts inside the printer cn cuse injuries. Never plce nything on the printer such s smll metl objects (pper clips, stples), liquids, ny type of liquid continer tht contins fl mmble liquids (lcohol, benzene, etc.). If such objects fll into the printer, this could cuse fi re or electricl shock. After removing the Cutter Unit, never touch the cutting edge (). This could cuse personl injury. To prevent fi re hzrd or dngerous electric shock, if foreign object flls into or liquid spills into the printer, press the Power button immeditely to switch the printer off, unplug the printer power cble from the outlet, nd then cll for service. If you continue to use the printer, this could cuse fi re or electricl shock. Connect the interfce cble correctly. To void dmge, before connection mke sure tht the shpe of the cble connector mtches the connection point on the printer. During printing, turn on the ventiltion system in the room. Secure rolls on the Roll Holder with this prt. Slide the Roll Holder long these slots. Lod the Roll Holder into this holder slot. The Stnd is provided s stndrd ccessory with the ipf750 nd ipf755. With the ipf650 nd ipf655, the Stnd is normlly offered s n option, but it my be provided s stndrd ccessory in some sles regions. 8

The crrige serves key role in printing. The Crrige slides long this shft. Importnt in supplying the pper. This retiner holds pper s it is fed. The Printhed moves cross the plten to print. Vcuum holes on the plten hold pper in plce. For ctching ink outside the edges of pper during borderless printing. The liner scle serves key role in detecting the Crrige position. Be creful not to touch this prt when clening inside the Top Cover or clering pper jms. When clening inside the printer under the Top Cover, use this brush to sweep wy pper dust on the Plten. To select menu, press or, nd then press the button. The menu is selected, nd menu items re now displyed. To ccess lower-level menus for menus lbeled with select the menu nd press the button. t left, Specifying menu items Press or to select desired settings, nd then press the button. The check box t left is selected, nd the setting is confi rmed. After two seconds, the disply reverts to the upper level menu. Specifying numericl vlues Follow these steps to enter numbers. In this exmple, network settings items re entered. 1. For numericl input, press or to move the cursor (shown s n underscore) to other fi elds. 2. Press the or button to enter the vlue. 3. Repet steps 1 nd 2 to complete the settings, nd then press the button. Executing menu commnds Press or to select the ction to execute, nd then press the button. The menu commnd is now executed. 12 Attching the Roll Holder to Rolls Attch the roll holder to rolls s follows. When printing on rolls, ttch the Roll Holder to the roll. Rolls hve two- or three-inch pper core. Use the correct ttchment for the pper core. The printer comes equipped with the 2-Inch Pper Core Attchment instlled. Prts to Prepre Using rolls with 2-inch pper core 2-Inch Pper Core Attchment () Using rolls with 3-inch pper core 3-Inch Pper Core Attchment L (b) 3-Inch Pper Core Attchment R (c) b c Set the roll on tble or other fl t surfce so tht it does not roll or fll. Rolls re hevy, nd dropping roll my cuse injury. When hndling the roll, be creful not to soil the printing surfce. This my ffect the printing qulity. We recommend wering clen cloth gloves when hndling rolls to protect the printing surfce. Use scissors or cutting tool to cut the edge of the roll pper if it is uneven, dirty, or hs tpe residue. Otherwise, it my cuse feeding problems nd ffect the printing qulity. Be creful not to cut through ny brcodes printed on the roll. Align the edges of the pper on both ends of the roll. Mislignment my cuse feeding problems. For detils on supported sizes nd types of rolls, see " Pper Sizes " or the Pper Reference Guide. ( "Pper Sizes," User Mnul), ( "Types of Pper," User Mnul) To view instructions s you ttch the Roll Holder, press the Nvigte button. 1 Lift the Holder Stopper lever () from the shft side to unlock it. Holding the Holder Stopper t the position indicted (b), remove it from the Roll Holder. b 12

13 Attching the Roll Holder to Rolls 2 Insert the respective ttchments for the roll pper core on the Roll Holder nd Holder Stopper. Using rolls with 2-inch pper core Holder Stopper (Left Side) Roll Holder (Right Side) Align the tips () of the 2-Inch Pper Core Attchment with the holes (b) of the Holder Stopper nd insert it firmly. No ttchment is needed. b Using rolls with 3-inch pper core Holder Stopper (Left Side) Roll Holder (Right Side) Align the tips () of the 3-Inch Pper Core Attchment L with the holes (b) of the Holder Stopper nd insert it firmly. b Align the tips () of the 3-Inch Pper Core Attchment R with the holes (b) of the Holder Stopper nd insert it firmly. b 3 With the edge of the roll pper fcing forwrd s shown, insert the Roll Holder from the right of the roll. Insert it fi rmly until the roll touches the fl nge () of the Roll Holder, leving no gp. 4 Insert the Holder Stopper from the left in the Roll Holder s shown. Holding it t the position shown (b), push it fi rmly in until the fl nge () of the Holder Stopper touches the roll. Lock the Holder Stopper lever (c) by pushing it down towrd the shft side. c b 13

14 Loding Rolls in the Printer Lod rolls in the printer s follows. Before loding rolls, mke sure the printer is clen inside the Top Cover nd round the Ejection Guide. If these res re dirty, we recommend clening them in dvnce. (, If Pper is Soiled) 1 Press the Lod button. 2 Press or to select Lod Roll Pper, nd then press the button. If ny pper hs been dvnced tht will not be used, messge is shown requesting you to remove it. Press or to select Yes, nd then press the button. Remove the pper nd go to the next step. 3 Positioning your hnds s shown, open the Roll Cover. 4 Holding the Roll Holder fl nge (), rest the Roll Holder shft on the Roll Ledge (b). At this time, position the holder so tht the R lbel on the Roll Holder fl nge (c) is ligned with the R lbel on the printer (d), s shown. b d b c 14

15 Loding Rolls in the Printer 5 Holding the Roll Holder fl nge (), guide the holder long the Roll Loding Slots (b) on both ends, keeping the holder level s you lod it in the Roll Holder Slot. c b b c 6 Do not force the Roll Holder into the printer with the right nd left ends reversed. This my dmge the printer nd Roll Holder. Do not relese the fl nges until you lod the holder fully in the Roll Holder Slot, keeping it level. Accidentlly loding the Roll Holder crooked my dmge the printer or Roll Holder when pper is dvnced. Be creful not to pinch your fi ngers between the Roll Loding Slots (b) nd the Roll Holder shft (c) when loding rolls. Advnce the leding edge of the roll in the Pper Feed Slot () until you her tone. The printer now strts dvncing the pper, nd menu for selection of the type of pper is shown on the Disply Screen. Be creful not to soil the printing surfce of roll pper s you insert it in the slot. This my ffect the printing qulity. We recommend wering clen cloth gloves when hndling rolls to protect the printing surfce. If the pper is wrinkled or wrped, strighten it out before loding it. Lod pper stright so it is not fed skew. 7 Press or to select the type of pper, nd then press the button. For detils on types of pper to select, see the Pper Reference Guide. (, Types of Mnuls) 8 Holding it t the positions indicted, close the Roll Cover. 15

16 Removing the Roll from the Printer Remove rolls from the printer s follows. 1 the Tb Selection screen of the Control Pnel, press or to select the Pper tb ( ). Redy : Pper Menu Plin Pper ISO A2 If the Tb Selection screen is not displyed, press the Menu button Press the button. The Pper Menu is displyed. Press or to select Eject Pper, nd then press the button. Press or to select Yes, nd then press the button. The roll is now rewound nd ejected. If you hve selected MngeReminRoll > in the Control Pnel menu, brcode is printed on the leding edge of the roll. Do not remove the roll before the brcode is printed. You will be unble to keep trck of the mount of roll pper left. ( "Keeping Trck of the Amount of Roll Pper Left," User Mnul) Positioning your hnds s shown, open the Roll Cover. 16

17 6 Using both hnds, rotte the Roll Holder towrd the bck to rewind the roll. Removing the Roll from the Printer 7 Holding the Roll Holder fl nge (), remove the holder from the Roll Holder Slot. See the following procedure for instructions on removing the Roll Holder from the roll. ( "Removing the Roll Holder from Rolls," User Mnul) 8 Holding it t the positions indicted, close the Roll Cover. To lod new pper in the printer t this point, see the following procedure. 18 Loding Sheets in the Printer Lod sheets in the printer s follows. e sheet of pper cn be loded in the Pper Feed Slot t time. Do not lod more thn one sheet t time. This my cuse pper jms. Agitte the ink in the Ink Tnk by slowly rotting the Ink Tnk upside-down nd right side up repetedly. Do not remove nd gitte ink tnks tht hve lredy been instlled in the printer. Ink my lek out. 25 3 Press the button nd insert the Ink Tnk into the holder fcing s shown, with the ink holes down. Replcing Ink Tnks Ink tnks cnnot be loded in the holder if the color or orienttion is incorrect. If the Ink Tnk does not fi t in the holder, do not force it into the holder. Mke sure the color of the Ink Tnk Lock Lever mtches the color of the Ink Tnk nd check the orienttion of the Ink Tnk before reloding it. 4 Push the Ink Tnk Lock Lever closed until it clicks into plce. 5 Mke sure the Ink Lmp is lit in red. Do not open the Printhed pouch until immeditely before instlltion. After removing the Printhed from the pouch, instll it right wy. If the Printhed is left fter the pouch is opened, the nozzles my dry out, which my ffect printing qulity. Access the menu for printhed replcement When replcing the Printhed immeditely fter printing, wit few minutes before replcing it. The metl prts of the Printhed become hot during printing, nd there is risk of burns from touching these prts. Prepre new Ink Tnk when ink levels re low. Your hnds my become dirty during Printhed replcement. Use the gloves provided with the new Printhed for replcement. 1 2 If the roll is not ejected becuse of the cutting method selected, cut it mnully nd remove it. After bout two minutes, messge is shown on the Disply Screen instructing you to open the Top Cover. Replce the printhed 1 Open the Top Cover. Instructions re now shown on the Disply Screen regrding Printhed replcement. During Printhed replcement, do not move the Crrige from the position indicted. If you ccidentlly move the Crrige, you will her wrning tone, nd Printhed replcement is no longer possible. If you move the Crrige by mistke, close the Top Cover. The Crrige will be moved to the position s indicted. 31

32 Replcing the Printhed 2 If the Printhed Fixer Cover or Printhed Fixer Lever is dirty, use dmp cloth tht you hve wrung out completely to wipe it clen. Never touch the metl contcts of the Crrige. This my dmge the printer. 3 Pull the Printhed Fixer Lever forwrd ll the wy to open it completely. 4 Pull up the Printhed Fixer Cover to open it completely. 5 Remove the Printhed nd press the button. Dispose of the used Printhed in ccordnce with locl regultions. 32

33 6 Holding the new Printhed by the grips (), remove it from the pouch. Replcing the Printhed When hndling the Printhed, lwys hold it by the grips (). Never touch the nozzles (b) or metl contcts (c). This my dmge the Printhed nd ffect printing qulity. Never touch the ink supply section (d). This my cuse printing problems. d c If you need to put Printhed somewhere temporrily before instlltion, do not keep the nozzles nd metl contcts fcing down. If the nozzles or metl contcts re dmged, it my ffect the printing qulity. b 7 While fi rmly holding the Printhed you hve removed, use your other hnd to remove the ornge Protective Prt (). Squeeze the grips (c) of Protective Prt (b) nd pull it down to remove it. b c The inside surfce of the Protective Prts () nd (b) is coted with ink to protect the nozzles. Be creful not to touch these surfces when removing the cps. The Printhed contins ink to protect the nozzles. We recommend removing Protective Prt (b) s you hold it over the Printhed pckge or sfely out of the wy to void spilling ink nd stining your clothes or the surrounding re. If ink ccidentlly spills, wipe off the ink with dry cloth. Do not rettch the Protective Prt or protective mteril. Dispose of these mterils in ccordnce with locl regultions. 33

34 Replcing the Printhed 8 With the nozzles fcing down nd the metl contcts towrd the bck, insert the Printhed into the Crrige. Crefully push the printhed fi rmly into the Crrige, ensuring tht the nozzles nd metl contcts do not touch the crrige. 9 Pull the Printhed Fixer Cover down towrd the front to lock the Printhed in plce. 10 Push the Printhed Fixer Lever towrd the bck of the printer until it clicks. 11 Close the Top Cover. Ink now fi lls the system. It tkes bout six minutes for ink to fi ll the system. Never remove n Ink Tnk while the system is fi lling with ink. After the Printhed hs been replced nd fi lled with ink, Hed Posi. Adj. ( Auto(Advnced) ) is performed if you hve selected Rep.P.hed Print > in the Control Pnel menu. In this cse, follow the instructions displyed for Printhed djustment. If Rep.P.hed Print is, perform Hed Posi. Adj. ( Auto(Advnced) ) yourself.
