5 Prerequisites S E C T I ON 1 Prerequisites The fllwing items are required t setup the Kaltura Vide Package fr Mdle: Access t a Mdle envirnment with site administratr rle. A Kaltura accunt - Please cntact yur Kaltura representative fr yur Kaltura accunt details. Installatin f the Kaltura Vide Package fr Mdle n yur Mdle envirnment. Fr installatin instructins, see Kaltura Vide Package V4 fr Mdle Versin Installatin and Upgrade Guide. KAF Admin Cnsle please ask yur Kaltura representative fr credentials t access yur KAF Admin Cnsle instance. Befre Yu Begin Yu will need t create a Mdle rt categry in the KMC, if nt already created fr yu by yur Kaltura representative. T create the Mdle rt categry in the KMC Lg int the KMC. Select the Cntent tab and then select the Categries tab. Click Add Categry. On the New Categry windw, select the psitin f the rt categry and save yur new categry. Click Next. 7 Understanding the Setup Prcess Understanding the Setup Prcess S E C T I ON 2 The Kaltura Vide Package fr Mdle ffers an ut-f-the-bx slutin that enables users t view, recrd, uplad, publish, search, and share vide directly frm their Mdle envirnment. This translates int time and mney saved fr yur rganizatin, imprved student engagement, creativity and learning results, as well as ease f use fr students, faculty and teaching assistants. The Kaltura Applicatin Framewrk (KAF) Admin Cnsle The Kaltura Vide Package fr Mdle is implemented n tp f the Kaltura Applicatin Framewrk (KAF), a feature rich framewrk that allws flexible and streamlined integratin f Kaltura s vide slutins and prducts int 3 rd party applicatins such as Mdle. KAF is hsted and served directly frm the Kaltura clud servers and nce integrated int yur Mdle envirnment, presents different vide cmpnents and wrkflws t users. At the backend, the Kaltura Applicatin Framewrk prvides a flexible and extensible administratin panel, called KAF Admin Cnsle. The KAF Admin Cnsle ffers full cntrl ver the user experience and when interacting with vides inside Mdle. Nearly all cnfiguratin aspects f the Kaltura Vide Package fr Mdle are cnfigured thrugh the KAF Admin Cnsle. Yu can find a link t yur KAF Admin Cnsle frm within yur Mdle site, by ging t Site Administratin Plugins Lcal plugins Kaltura package Libraries and clicking the URL at tp f the page. KAF Mdules Yur KAF instance is cmpsed f multiple KAF mdules, such as Applicatin, Player, and Auth. Each mdule cntrls a different aspect f yur Kaltura Vide Package fr Mdle instance. A KAF mdule is cmpsed f a set f cnfiguratin fields. All KAF mdules are listed n the left menu in Kaltura Vide Package V4 fr Mdle Setup Guide 7

8 Understanding the Setup Prcess yur KAF Admin Cnsle instance. NOTE: Yur KAF Admin Cnsle may display mdules and cnfiguratin fields that are nt listed in this guide, sme f which may be disabled. It is imprtant that yu d nt mdify the cnfiguratin f the disabled mdules (and nt enable them) withut cnsulting with yur Kaltura representative. Mandatry Cnfiguratin After installing the Kaltura Vide Package fr Mdle yu will need t specify the rt categry yu created under the Categries mdule. Categries RtCategry Select the categry yu created in the KMC. NOTE: The rt categry shuld nt be changed after the plugin is cnfigured. It is kay t change the name f the rt categry in the KMC. It will autmatically update in the KAF Admin Cnsle. Be certain that the sharedrepsitrycategryid field is updated in the Hsted mdule. If it is nt updated the fllwing message is displayed: Press Click here t update t update the Shared Repsitry. NOTE: This step is nly required ne time after installatin r migratin f the Kaltura Vide Package fr Mdle. Playback Related KAF mdules: Player, Audientry, Imageentry Player Player playerid playerbarheightpixels playervideratipercent playereditid autplayonlad playback Chse the player t use when playing back vides in My Media and in Media Gallery. Use a player id (uicnf id) frm the list f players available in yur KMC accunt (In KMC, g t Studi and select Players List. The height (in pixels) f the player ui which is nt part f the actual vide (fr example - the bttm bar) The rati (in percent) f the vide inside the player. Standard values: 16:9 = 56.25, 4:3 = 75, 16:10 = 62.5 The player ID (uicnf ID) f the player that is used t edit entries. Determines whether the vide shuld start playing autmatically when the player lads. Which Playback methd shuld KAF use? RTMP is the default and recmmended value t use fr playback. HTTP uses prgressive dwnlad and is cached in the brwser. RTMP streams data and supprts adaptive bitrates. RTMP is the default and recmmended value. RTMPE - an encrypted (secure) prtcl base n RTMP. T date, the fllwing methds are available (with additinal methds t be added in the future): Uplading media frm the lcal machine Capturing a vide frm a webcam using the Kaltura Webcam Recrder (KRecrd) Adding a Vide Presentatin Creating a new screencast using the Kaltura Screen Recrder (KSR) Please refer t the Kaltura Vide Package fr Mdle User Manual fr mre details abut each f these methds. Media Uplad Please refer t Rles and Permissins. Webcam Recrding Widgets krecrdid rtmpurl The uicnf ID f the krecrd widget. KAF uses krecrd t recrd and uplad vide frm a webcam. By default, all cmments are public and are visible t all viewers f the entry. Fr example, if a vide is shared in tw curses, Curse A and Curse B, and a student in Curse B adds a cmment t the vide, the cmment will be visible t members f Curse A. A curse wner may chse t keep all cmments fr the curse vides, private, hwever, public cmments frm ther curses will be visible. 19 S E C T I ON 5 Rles and Permissins Related KAF mdules: Hsted See Cmmn Use Cases f Rle Cnfiguratin fr recmmendatins fr cmmn rle cnfiguratins in the Kaltura Vide Package fr Mdle. Intrductin t Rle Mapping The Kaltura Vide Package fr Mdle implements rle mapping frm Mdle rles t Kaltura rles via LIS rles. Each rle that is assigned t a user in Mdle is mapped t ne f the rles defined in the LIS standard. When a user is assigned with a rle in a Mdle curse Student r Teacher fr example Mdle translates this rle t an LIS rle which is then sent t KAF. On KAF s side, a dedicated mdule prvides flexible mapping between LIS rles and Kaltura rles, allwing a granular cntrl ver the behavir f the different Kaltura Vide Package cmpnents in Mdle. This prcess is described in the fllwing wrkflw: Wrkflw: 1. Users are assigned a Mdle Curse-level rle after being assigned t a curse. 2. Mdle sends the crrespnding LIS rle t Kaltura. 3. 20 Rles and Permissins Mdle Sends the Crrespnding LIS Rle t Kaltura When a user accesses a Curse-level Kaltura mdule, such as Media Gallery r the Brwse, Search and Embed, Mdle sends the crrespnding LIS rle t Kaltura, accrding t the fllwing mapping: Mdle Curse-level rle Student Teacher LIS rle Learner Instructr NOTE: Outside the cntext f a curse, Mdle sends Learner fr all lgged-in users. KAF Grants Permissins Accrding t the Mapping On the KAF Admin Cnsle side, each LIS rle can be mapped back t Kaltura rles. KAF grants different permissins accrding t the mapping prvided in the Hsted mdule in the KAF Admin Cnsle: As displayed, each LIS rle is mapped in Kaltura t tw rles an Applicative Rle (kmsrle) and a Cntextual Rle (kmscntextualrle). These rles crrespnd t different cases/scenaris in the Kaltura Package fr Mdle. Setting these rles changes the permissins a user has in the fllwing scenaris: Applicative rle (KMSRle) - Defines the user rles and permissins in Kaltura widgets that are ut f curse cntext (fr example: My Media) annymusrle Nt relevant t the Kaltura Vide Package fr Mdle and shuld nt be used. viewerrle The user will nt have access t My Media, and will nt be able t uplad new cntent t either My Media, Media Gallery r using the Embed Kaltura Media text-editr buttn. Cntextual rle (KMScntextualrle) - Defines the user rles and permissin in Kaltura widgets when in a curse cntext (fr example: curse Media Gallery) Member: The user will be able t view cntent in Media Galleries f curses t which the user is enrlled, but will nt be able t cntribute (publish) t the galleries. Cntributr: The user has Member permissins with the ability t publish cntent t the Media Gallery. Mderatr: The user has Cntributr permissins with the ability t mderate cntent added t the Media Gallery. Manager: The user has Mderatr permissins with the ability edit the Media Gallery settings, and view the curse gallery analytics. Frm the Kaltura mdule s perspective, the permissins are as fllws: My Media Applicative rle: If viewerrle, the user will nt have access t My Media and will nt be able t uplad new cntent. If privateonlyrle the user will be able t have its wn My Media repsitry t where he can uplad his wn private cntent. Cntextual rle: des nt impact My Media. Media Gallery Applicative rle: If the user has a cntextual rle that allws publishing/adding cntent t the Media Gallery (see the fllwing table), and the user has an Applicative rle f privateonlyrle, the user will be able t uplad new cntent r cntribute cntent frm its wn private My Media repsitry. Cntextual rle: Determines the rle f the user inside the Media Gallery (nte users can access a curse Media Gallery after they have access t the curse page in Mdle, regardless f their Kaltura rle. Rle Member Cntributr Mderatr Manager Permissins If the user has Member cntextual rle, the user will be treated as a viewer nly in the Media Gallery, and will nly be able t view cntent, and will nt be able t cntribute cntent t the Gallery (regardless f the user s Applicative rle). Users with Cntributr rle can view Media Gallery entries and uplad and cntribute entries frm My Media (if applicative rle is privateonlyrle). Students are usually assigned Member r Cntributr cntextual rles. Mderatr rle allws the users t mderate cntent published t a Media Gallery (and t cntribute new cntent). Teaching Assistants usually have Mderatr cntextual rles. A Manager rle prvides full access t the Media Gallery, including the ability t mderate cntent, edit the Media Gallery s settings and metadata, and access the Media Gallery Analytics. The fllwing use cases are described: Allwing Students t Uplad Cntent Allwing Faculty Only t Uplad and Create New Cntent Creating a Teachers Only Shared Repsitry Allwing Students t Uplad Cntent Descriptin: Allw all Mdle users t authr new cntent (uplad, webcam recrding, screencast recrding, etc.) and publish t curses, Media Galleries, regardless f their cntextual rle. Mdle Side Cnfiguratin N special cnfiguratin is required n the Mdle side fr this case. Assign all students t the Mdle Student rle and teachers t the Mdle Teacher Rle. All curse-level rles that have any curse-level management privilege will be mapped t the LTI Learner rle. Students shuld nt have access t My Media and shuld nt be able t cntribute t any curse Media Gallery. NOTE: If students are prevented frm uplading cntent, they will nt be allwed t submit vide assignments. Mdle-side Cnfiguratin T accmplish this cnfiguratin, the My Media link shuld be hidden t all lgged in users but Teachers by creating a System-level rle designed nly fr shwing the My Media link t Teachers. It is imprtant t hide the My Media link. If students are able t access the My Media link, an Access Denied message will be displayed as they are prevented frm accessing My Media by the KAF-side cnfiguratin (see belw).
