8 1 Intrductin NOTE: The DEV-BF5xxDA-Lite has an n-bard Debug Agent, which is nt available n the EVAL-BF5xx Bard. All ther features are identical! In this dcument, when describing bth bards, the name DEV-BF5xx-Lite is used. The DEV-BF5xx-Lite Bard is a lightweight develpment platfrm fr all current and future Bluetechnix Cre Mdules (CM-BF527, CM-BF533, CM-BF561, CM-BF537U, CM-BF537E, TCM-BF537, TCM-BF518). the DEV- BF5xxDA-Lite bard a bttm munted tiny high perfrmance Debug Agent fully cmpatible with Visual DSP++ allws prgramming and debugging any f the Blackfin Prcessrs. It can deliver up t 1.25A at 12V. The input vltage range f an alternative pwer supply must be within 6-16V and prvide at least 9W! The n-bard DC/DC pwer supply generates 5V and 3.3V which are made available n the expansin cnnectrs. The maximum current that can be drawn frm the 5V is 2A, but take care as this includes the current ging int the 3.3V regulatr als, because this regulatr is pwered by the 5V. The maximum current that can be drawn frm the 3.3V is 1.5A but nte that this means at least 1A additinal lad n the 5V cnnectr. The serial prt f the Cre Mdule can be ruted directly t the USB Prt (USB/UART) r t the UART Expansin Pads. An SD-Card cnnectr munted at the bttm f the bard allws making use f file IO functins delivered with the BLACKSheep sftware. BLACKSheep supprts SD-Cards and includes a FAT file system as well as the mst relevant file IO functins. The cmplete BLACKSheep sftware package can be purchased frm Bluetechnix. The 2 nd USB device cnnectr (clred in purple) can nly be used with the CM-BF527 Cre Mdule featuring USB2.0 OTG and the CM-BF537U Cre Mdule which has an n-bard USB V2.0 Device (NET2272 by PLXtechnlgy). The RJ-45 Ethernet cnnectr (clred in purple) can nly be used in cmbinatin with the CM-BF527 r the CM- BF537E Cre Mdule which has an n-bard Ethernet physical chip. 20 5 Switches, Jumper and LED Descriptin 5.1 S1 Ethernet Switch fr the CM-BF527and the CM-BF537E This 8 pin DIP switch enables the Ethernet cnnectr. It is necessary t switch them n fr the Cre Mdules CM- BF527 and CM-BF537E and ff fr all thers. 21 Mve S4 t psitin 1 t rute the Cre Mdules RX and TX signals t X5 5.4 JP1 - Pwer Supply Jumper This jumper can be remved in rder t insert an AMPERE METER fr current measurement f the entire Cre Mdule. 5.5 JP2 RTC Pwer Jumper This jumper is used t cnnect the VddRTC pin f the Cre Mdule t 3.3V. Yu can als use this jumper t cnnect a battery (Vcc) t the internal RTC f the Blackfin. Fr cnnecting GND use pin 3 f the UART expansin pads. 5.6 JP3 Fr the CM-BF527 JP3 is used t cnnect the USB-ID pin t the Cre Mdule. Fr all ther Cre Mdules, leave it pen! 5.7 JP6 USB-ID Fr the CM-BF527 JP6 is used t frce the USB-OTG master mde. Fr all ther Cre mdules leave it pen! 5.8 Buttns S3, S6 The Buttn S3 is the main Reset Buttn f the Cre Mdule. The Buttn S6 is a general-purpse input buttn n pin 18 f the Cre Mdule. This cnnects the 5.0V pin f the USB cnnectr X9 t pin 53 f the Cre Mdule. If yu d nt use a Cre Mdule with n bard USB feature the switch 4 f S2 shuld always remain ff. 8 Installatin 8.1 Initial Bard Setup The installatin guide is written fr Windws (Windws 2000 and WinXP). Hwever fr cnnecting the USB device the drivers fr MAC and LINUX are available n the CD. In rder t set up und test the bard the fllw the next steps: DEV-BF5xxDA-lite V5.x Hardware User Manual 23

Set switch S1 accrding chapter Cnnect the pwer supply t the pwer cnnectr f the DEV-BF5xxDA-Lite bard. 4. Cnnect the DEV-BF5xxDA-Lite Bard via USB t the PC. The pre-flashed BLACKSheep starts and the LED munted n the EVAL bard starts blinking. the PC usually the Fund New Hardware Wizard pens. If the wizard asks cnnect t the windws update site, select N, nt this time DEV-BF5xxDA-lite V5.x Hardware User Manual 24

26 Chse: Install frm a list r specific lcatin. The driver is lcated n yur supprt CD. This prcedure has t be dne twice, because at first the USB driver will be installed. Then the Hardware Wizard pens again, because the UART bridge driver has t be installed in additin using the same driver file. Simply repeat this step. 5. Open the Windws device manager (Cntrl Panel System Hardware) t see which COM prt number has been assigned t the CP2101 UART-t-USB Chip. This number differs frm cmputer t cmputer based n the already installed COM prts. (e.g. COM4) DEV-BF5xxDA-lite V5.x Hardware User Manual 25

Open a Terminal prgram like the HyperTerminal included in Windws perating systems and pen the respective COM prt with Baud, 8 Data-bits, N Parity and 1 Stp bit, disable the Hardware flw cntrl. 7. Reset the DEV-BF5xxDA-Lite Bard (Press the main reset buttn). After this yu will see the BLACKSheep bt-screen shwing up. If yu discnnect the device, yu have t recnnect. This shws a sample bt screen. Depending n the current sftware versin, yu might get different bt messages. 8. Yu can find a simple hell wrld prgram n yur supprt CD r at the dwnlad sectin f the prduct hmepage. T start the sample prgram, type xmr UART n yur terminal prgram, then (Transfer Send file) select the apprpriate file UART.ldr depending n yur Cre Mdule, chse prtcl Xmdem and send. After the dwnlad has finished type exec UART t execute the sample prgram. 9. Press reset t return t the BLACKSheep cmmand line. 8.2 Debug Agent Setup (ly fr DEV-BF5xxDA-Lite) If yu have purchased a DEV-BF5xxDA-Lite bard with the Debug Agent munted n the bttm side f the bard yu can use it t dwnlad and debug yur sftware with the VDSP++ develpment envirnment frm Analg Devices. An evaluatin versin is included in the supprt CD r yu can dwnlad it frm ur website r the website frm Analg Devices. Currently the Debug Agent wrks nly with versin 4.5 f the VDSP++ IDE. Nte: The Cre Mdule will get warm while in use. Please fllw the instructins fr installing and cnfiguring VDSP++ t wrk with the Debug Agent. 1. 28 2. If available install the latest update fr VDSP Yu can dwnlad updates frm the Analg Devices website. 3. Cnfigure VDSP++4.5 t supprt the DEV-BF5xxDA-Lite by starting the Installer frm yur supprt CD. ce started yu shuld see the fllwing dialg. Nte: T run the installer the.net framewrk is required! 4. Select the Cre Mdule that yu have inserted in the scket f yur DEV-BF5xxDA-Lite. 5. Press the Install buttn. 6. Yu shuld get the fllwing message: 7. Be sure that the bard is pwered n! 8. Cnnect X4 (USB JTAG) with a USB cable t a free USB prt n yur PC. 9. The fllwing dialg r a similar ne shuld appear: 10. Chse Install the sftware autmatically, press Next and fllw the n-screen instructins. After the install prcess yu have t create a Platfrm using the Platfrm Wizard f the VDSP++. Fllw the instructins t create a valid Platfrm fr the Bluetechnix USB Debug Agent. 1. The created platfrm shuld appear in the Platfrms sectin f the cnfiguratr windw. 6. Press Ok t clse the VisualDSP++ Cnfiguratr. The last step is the creatin f a VDSP++ debug sessin. If yu change yur Cre Mdule n the DEV-BF5xxDA-Lite yu have t recnfigure VDSP++ starting with the install tl as described abve. 9 Using the VDSP Flash Prgramming Tl 9.1 Develping an Applicatin If yu are develping yur wn prjects with the VDSP++ develpment tls, including the JTAG prvided by Analg Devices yu can use the flash prgramming tl included in the VDSP++ envirnment in rder t flash yur prgram n the Cre Mdule. Yu have t lad the flash driver lcated n yur EVAL bard supprt CD crrespnding t the inserted Cre Mdule. 9.2 Overwriting BLACKSheep Cde If yu verwrite intentinally r unintentinally the sectin in the flash cntaining the BLACKSheep cde, yu will need a JTAG device and the VDSP++ flash tl t reprgram the flash. Flashing the apprpriate BLACKSheep lader file (*.ldr) lcated n the CD, reinstalls the BLACKSheep cde. The examples, drivers and the BLACKSheep sftware are under permanent develpment.
