The applicatio key lets the Iterplay Trasfer applicatio ru o your system. The computer sees the applicatio key whe it is bootig. c To coect the applicatio key: t I a stadaloe cofiguratio, coect the key to the Avid editig system. Do ot lose the USB applicatio key. Your Iterplay Trasfer software does ot fuctio without it. If you lose your applicatio key, you must purchase aother key from Avid at the full market cost of your software. 4

6 Istallig the Iterplay Trasfer Software i a Stadaloe Eviromet Whe you are istallig Iterplay Trasfer for workstatio-to-workstatio trasfers i a eviromet other tha Avid Uity, you must istall the Iterplay Trasfer Egie software ad Iterplay Trasfer Cliet software o each cliet. The Iterplay Trasfer Egie software also istalls the Iterplay Trasfer cofiguratio software, which lets you set up the particular cofiguratio for your workstatio trasfers. For procedures o istallig the Iterplay Trasfer stadaloe software: Istallig the Iterplay Trasfer Egie o a Stadaloe Editig System Istallig the Iterplay Trasfer Cliet Software i a Stadaloe Eviromet I the Avid Iterplay Trasfer user iterface, the Avid Iterplay Trasfer Egie Cofiguratio dialog box is amed TrasferMaager Server Cofiguratio. I the Choose the istallatio type that best suits your eeds dialog box, select oe of the followig: - Avid Iterplay Trasfer Server with Supplemeted FTP Services if your workgroup cofiguratio icludes supported igest or playback FTP devices, such as Soy e-vtr or Thuder server. Do ot istall FTP services o a server used with Avid AirSPACE. - Avid Iterplay Trasfer Server to istall the stadard Iterplay Trasfer Server software. 7. Click Next. 8. Click Next to accept the locatio for the applicatio. 9. The istaller verifies that Microsoft NET Framework 1.1 is istalled o the system. - If the istaller fids Microsoft NET Framework 1.1 o the system, the the Iterplay Trasfer istallatio cotiues. - If Microsoft NET Framework 1.1 is ot foud, follow the istructios to istall it. 10. A message appears, askig if you wat to ope the Avid Iterplay Trasfer Egie Cofiguratio tool ow or later. t Click Yes to ope the Avid Iterplay Trasfer Egie Cofiguratio tool. To ope the Avid Iterplay Trasfer Egie Cofiguratio tool after the Iterplay Trasfer istallatio is complete, click the Start butto, ad select All Programs > Avid > Avid Iterplay Trasfer Egie Cofiguratio. 11. Set the appropriate optios i the Avid Iterplay Trasfer Egie Cofiguratio tool. See Uderstadig the Avid Iterplay Trasfer Egie Cofiguratio Settigs o page Click Save. 13. Click OK to the message box that idicates chages made to the Iterplay Trasfer cofiguratio will ot take effect util the Avid editig system is restarted. 14. 9 Uderstadig the Avid Iterplay Trasfer Egie Cofiguratio Settigs Uderstadig the Avid Iterplay Trasfer Egie Cofiguratio Settigs The Avid Iterplay Trasfer Egie Cofiguratio dialog box lets you set several optios for performig various types of media trasfers. To ope the Avid Iterplay Trasfer Egie Cofiguratio dialog box: t I a stadaloe eviromet, from a Avid editig system, click the Start butto, ad select All Programs > Avid > Avid Iterplay Trasfer Egie Cofiguratio. Avid Iterplay Trasfer Egie Cofiguratio dialog box For iformatio about the optios i the Iterplay Trasfer Egie Cofiguratio dialog box, see the followig table. For chages to take effect, you must restart the Avid editig system. 9

I a workgroup eviromet, type the computer ame for the Avid Iterplay Server associated with the workgroup this Iterplay Trasfer is attached to. I a workgroup eviromet, type the user ame ad password that the Iterplay Trasfer should use to coect to the Avid Iterplay Server. This user accout must already exist o the Avid Iterplay Egie. Curretly, you must type the User ame as TrasferMaager ad the password as avid. I a workgroup eviromet, select this optio if you wat to accept icomig workgroup trasfers eve if the Iterplay Trasfer is ot logged i to Avid Iterplay Egie. I a workgroup eviromet, type the ame of the Avid Uity workspace where you wat the icomig trasfers to be set. This workspace must already exist ad you must have access to it. If you are performig captures, you must set this to a Avid Uity workspace. Stadaloe Settigs Accept icomig trasfer after timeout OMF AAF I a stadaloe eviromet, select this optio if you wat to accept icomig trasfers after the set timeout. Whe you are performig stadaloe trasfer operatios betwee cliets, the timeout value must be set to less tha 15 secods. Avid recommeds a timeout value of 10 secods. I a stadaloe eviromet, select either OMF or AAF depedig o for the type of media files beig trasferred. Directory for icomig trasfers I a stadaloe eviromet, type the ame of the directory where you wat Iterplay Trasfer to place the icomig trasfers. This directory must be a valid media files directory. Click Browse to locate a valid directory. The default directory is: The default directories are: I OMF mode - OMFI MediaFiles I AAF mode - Avid MediaFiles\MXF\1 For better performace whe media files grow beyod 10,000 files i the primary directory \1, you eed to chage the Directory for icomig trasfers to Avid MediaFiles\MXF\2. 10

11 Uderstadig the Avid Iterplay Trasfer Egie Cofiguratio Settigs Avid Iterplay Trasfer Egie Cofiguratio Settigs (Cotiued) Optio Descriptio System Settigs Eable auto-cleaup of trasfer queues Server loggig off Stadard loggig o Debug loggig o Trasfer queues are ot automatically deleted from the server system. The queues let you see the history of the trasfers. Select this optio if you wat the trasfer queues cleaed up o a regular basis. The default is to Auto-cleaup trasfers that are older tha 360 miutes (6 hours) ad to ru the auto-cleaup every 12 miutes. These three optios are used for debuggig problems. If errors occurred where Avid Customer Support eeds more iformatio from log files, you might have to chage this settig. The default is Stadard loggig o. Cofigure FTP Parameters If durig the istall process, you selected Iterplay Trasfer Egie with Supplemet FTP Services i the Choose the istallatio type that best suits your eeds dialog box, you eed to cofigure the FTP parameters. See Cofigurig a FTP Server, FTP Playback, ad FTP Igest Devices sectio i the Avid Iterplay Trasfer Setup ad User s Guide. All etries must match the device s setup. Workgroups Workgroup trasfers eabled Icomig workgroup trasfers eabled Max. simultaeous workgroup trasfers Directory for temporary compositio files I a workgroup eviromet, select this optio to eable workgroup-to-workgroup trasfers. I a stadaloe eviromet, select this optio to eable trasfers to aother workstatio. I a workgroup eviromet, select this optio to eable trasfers from aother workgroup. I a stadaloe eviromet, select this optio to eable trasfers from aother workstatio. Displays the maximum umber of simultaeous outgoig workgroup trasfers. Avid recommeds 1. Type the directory ame where you wat temporary files to be placed durig the capture process or durig icomig workgroup trasfers. The default directory is C:\temp. 11

Select this optio durig ormal use. Avid Customer Support might ask you to deselect this optio whe troubleshootig problems. Sets the ame of remote workgroups ad their Iterplay Trasfer server. This settig is igored by Avid Iterplay Access, because it has its ow settigs for amig remote workgroups. Do the followig: 1. Click Add. 2. I the Workgroup Name text box, type a ickame for the remote workgroup. This ame ca be ay ame you decide to use for the remote workgroup. The ame you eter for the workgroup appears i the Trasfer meu o the Avid editig applicatio. 3. I the Maps to Server Name text box, type the computer ame of the Iterplay Trasfer server of the remote workgroup. Playback Playback trasfers eabled Playback devices Eables play back trasfers. Select this optio if your workgroup icludes a playback device such as a Avid AirSPACE. The recommeded maximum umber of simultaeous trasfers is 2. For a NewsCutter XP system i a LANshare eviromet, the recommeded maximum umber of play back trasfers is 1. Eter the ame or ames of ay playback devices i your workgroup. You do ot eed to list AirSpeeds here, because AirSpeeds have their ow Iterplay Trasfer software ad cofiguratio settigs. For the followig devices, do the followig: For a Avid AirSPACE playback device, type the ame of the Iterplay Trasfer server ad the ame of the playback device. For example, type TMserver1/Airspace1. For Grass Valley Group Profile systems, type the computer ame of the playback device. I a workgroup eviromet, this umber should be the umber of playback devices, plus 2 times the umber of igest devices, plus the umber of workgroups. I a stadaloe eviromet, this umber should be at least the total of the simultaeous play back trasfers plus 2 times the igest trasfers. For a NewsCutter XP system i a LANshare eviromet, the recommeded maximum umber of simultaeous trasfers is 2. The higher the umber of simultaeous trasfers, the more the impact o performace. Playlist Iformatio Use Newsroom rudows to schedule trasfers Newsroom Server User Name Password Schedule File Name Eables the Iterplay Trasfer Newsroom rudow schedulig feature. See the Workig with Rudows sectio i the Avid Iterplay Trasfer Setup ad User s Guide. Type the computer ame of the Newsroom Server. Type the user ame that Iterplay Trasfer should use to coect to the Newsroom Server. Type the password Iterplay Trasfer should use to coect to the Newsroom Server. Type the file ame of the schedule file that Iterplay Trasfer should use to determie which rudow to use at which time. 15 Cofigurig the Avid Editig Applicatio for Trasfers Cofigurig the Avid Editig Applicatio for Trasfers After you istall the Iterplay Trasfer cliet software o a Avid editig system, you ca cofigure the trasfer process. For procedures o cofigurig the Avid editig applicatio for trasfers, see the followig topics: Settig Trasfer Settigs i the Avid Editig Applicatio Allowig Trasfers to Other Workstatios Settig Trasfer Settigs i the Avid Editig Applicatio To activate Iterplay Trasfer each time you start your Avid editig applicatio ad to have the applicatio otify you of icomig trasfers: 1. I the Avid editig applicatio, click the Settigs tab i the Project widow. 2. Double-click Trasfer i the Settigs list. The Trasfer Settigs dialog box opes. 3. Click the Settigs tab. 15

I the Stadaloe/Icomig Requests area, do oe of the followig: t Select Refuse All Requests, if you do ot wat to receive files from aother workgroup. t Select User Dialog To Accept/Refuse, ad oe of the followig methods for acceptig trasfers: Wait for User Actio (No Timeout) You receive a message request for a trasfer. You must click OK for the trasfer to occur. Accept After Timeout The system automatically accepts the file after the timeout. Refuse After Timeout The system does ot accept the file after the timeout. I the Timeout (secods) text box, type the amout of time you wat to set for the timeout. 5. I the Status Widow area, do the followig: a. I the text box, type the umber of secods you wat the status widow to update. b. (Optio) Select Brig up widow if error occurs if you wat errors to display. 6. (Optio) I a workgroup eviromet, if you wat mixed-resolutio items highlighted i the bi, select Highlight mixed-resolutio items i the Sed to Playback area. If a sequece cotais DV 25 ad DV 50 media withi the same sequece, that sequece is highlighted i red i the bi. Iterplay Trasfer caot sed sequeces that cotai both DV 25 ad DV 50 media to playback. This feature allows you to easily idetify those sequeces. 7. I the Output Audio Mix area, select the type of audio output you wat. - Direct chael output - Sed to Playback trasfers audio tracks without performig a mixdow. - Stereo output - Sed to Playback mixes all of the tracks to a stereo pair, usig pa cotrols to split the tracks. The sequece is copied before the mixdow is edited i, ad the suffix.trasfer is added to the ame (same as i the direct output optio). 8. Click OK. Allowig Trasfers to Other Workstatios Depedig o your eviromet, you ca trasfer items to other workstatios that has Iterplay Trasfer software istalled. To allow trasfers to other workstatios: 1. I the Avid editig applicatio, click the Settigs tab i the Project widow. 2. Double-click Trasfer i the Settigs list.

17 Cofigurig the Avid Editig Applicatio for Trasfers The Trasfer Settigs dialog box opes. 3. Click the TMCliet.ii tab. 4. Do the followig: t I a stadaloe eviromet, type the computer ame of the local system (this computer) i the Server text box, ad i the Workgroup text box, type the ame you wat to see i the Trasfer meu. 5. I the Other Workgroups area, click Add. The Add Workgroup To List dialog box opes. 6. Do the followig: t I a stadaloe eviromet, i the Server text box, type the computer ame of other workstatio, ad i the Workgroup text box, type the ame you wat to see i the Trasfer meu. 7. Click OK. The ame you typed displays i the Other Workgroups list. If you wat to edit the ames of ay of the workstatios listed i the Other Workgroups area, select the ame, click Edit, ad make the chages. 17

18 Special Notes Thuder Productio Server To cofigure the Iterplay Trasfer Egie to add a Thuder productio server, follow the procedures for cofigurig a Geeric FTP device. These procedures are icluded i the Cofiguratio for Capturig ad Play Back of MXF DHM OP1a File Formats sectio i the Avid Iterplay Trasfer Setup ad User s Guide. I additio to these cofiguratio procedures, the Thuder server eeds a ImportWatcher folder to hold the files durig trasfers from the Avid editig system. After the trasfers are complete the files are moved from the ImportWatcher folder to the Clip folder i the Thuder server s database. The files i the Clip folder are used durig a trasfer from the Thuder server to the Avid editig system. To trasfer files to or from a Thuder server, the Iterplay Trasfer Egie requires the Avid Iterplay Trasfer Server with Supplemetal FTP Services optio durig istallatio. Before you ca trasfer files, the Thuder server requires the followig setup. For procedures, see the Thuder documetatio: Verify the Thuder server has at least oe database. Verify the Thuder server ad all Avid editig systems have the same timecode settigs (Drop Frame or o-drop Frame) ad video stadard (NTSC or PAL). Setup ad eable the ImportWatcher folder. Istall ad cofigure the 3rd-party FTP server software to create a Sed user ad a Retrieve user that match the users set o the Avid editig system. For procedures o how to trasfer files to ad from a Thuder server, see the Trasferrig To ad From Geeric FTP Servers sectio i the Avid Iterplay Trasfer Setup ad User s Guide. Documetatio Chages The Avid Iterplay Trasfer Help ad Avid Iterplay Trasfer Setup ad User s Guide refer to the TrasferMaager Server Cofiguratio dialog box as the Avid Iterplay Trasfer Egie Cofiguratio dialog box. If you make chages to the clip ad resed it to the Profile usig the same clip ame ad click overwrite, the clip is successfully overwritte i the primary Profile, but ot i the secodary Profile. This results i havig two clips with the same ame but with differet cotets o two Profiles. Whe mirrorig to two Thomso Grass Valley Group Profiles, make sure the directory paths to the Profiles are correct. The directory paths must be idetical for mirrored seds to work properly. Access the OMFI media folder, ad see if the PMR file is older tha the ewly igested media files. 2. If the PMR file is older, delete the PMR file to force a rebuild of the PMR file. Rebuildig the PMR file ca be a time-cosumig process. Make sure the PMR file is older tha the last igested media files before you delete the PMR file. 20

21 Limitatios Errors occur whe you attempt to trasfer sequeces that cotai usupported effects, usupported media, or usupported audio formats. This ca occur whe you have checked i a sequece from a editig system that supports certai features, ad the a editig system that does ot support those features checks out that sequece ad the attempts to sed the sequece to a playback device. I a stadaloe eviromet, whe you trasfer sequeces cotaiig AVX plug-is, reder the AVX plug-i effects before you trasfer the sequece. A trasactio might appear as Paused or Caceled whe it might still be trasferrig. This ca happe whe you click Cacel or Pause durig a trasactio that is i the Pedig state but that the Avid Iterplay Trasfer has already started the preparatios for trasfer. If a trasfer does get ito this state, it might cotiue to trasfer. Workaroud: Wait util the trasactio is i the Trasferrig state before cacelig or pausig it. Sequeces set to AirSPACE may play back with a extra frame added at the outpoit of cuts. Whe you digitize film-origiated (24fps) video i a NTSC eviromet, may frames will be pulldow frames that combie a field from the precedig frame with a field from the successive frame. If you have a edit i the timelie where the last frame of the edit is oe of the mixed-field frames, you may ed up with a output that is ot what you expect. You will ot see the secod field o the desktop display, so the trasitio across clips will be what you wat. However, whe the video is trasferred to AirSPACE, both fields will be visible, ad you may get a flash if the secod field comes from a frame that is very differet (light vs. dark, etc.) tha the precedig frame.
