2 Before Istallig Avid Iterplay Media Services Before Istallig Avid Iterplay Media Services Before you istall the Iterplay Media Services system for the first time, esure that you are familiar with the cotets of the Avid Iterplay Media Services Setup ad User s Guide, Avid Iterplay Software Istallatio ad Cofiguratio Guide, ad ay other hardware or software documetatio provided by Avid. or third-party vedors whose products might be itegrated with the Iterplay Media Services system. 3 Hardware ad Software Requiremets The Iterplay Media Services Egie is istalled o its ow computer. However, other service providers might also be istalled o this computer. 4 Istallig the Software All providers are qualified o a AS3000 dual-processor server with 12 GB RAM ruig Microsoft Widows 7 Professioal SP1 64-bit. Istallig the Software To istall the software ad begi the cofiguratio of your Avid Iterplay eviromet, see Avid Iterplay Software Istallatio ad Cofiguratio Guide. For cofiguratio iformatio of the Avid Iterplay Media Services software, see the Avid Iterplay Media Services Setup ad User s Guide. Whe istallig the Iterplay Media Services Egie make sure it is istalled o the C: partitio of the Iterplay Media Services system. Iterplay Media Services Cliet Updater: You ca update your Iterplay Media Services Egie to v2.x ad cotiue to use Iterplay Access v1.6.x or v1.5.x i your workgroup. However, some the Iterplay Access features are ot available with the updated Access v1.5.x or v1.6.x. See iformatio about the Iterplay Media Services Cliet Updater for Iterplay Access i the Avid Iterplay Software Istallatio ad Cofiguratio Guide. The Avid Iterplay Media Services system requires Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express SP3, which is istalled automatically with the Iterplay Media Services Egie istallatio. See the Avid Iterplay Media Services Setup ad User s Guide. Upgradig Iterplay Media Services ad Providers from Versios Prior to v1.6.2 Before upgradig the Iterplay Archive provider to v2.7.5 from a versio prior to v1.6.2, you eed to execute the fixmediasize tool (fixmediasize.exe). This tool corrects a issue foud i prior versios, where master clips ad redered effects i the archive database showed icorrect media size values i Iterplay Access, after right-clickig a asset ad selectig the Update Status from Archive commad. To obtai this tool, cotact Avid techical support. I Avid Access, the Update Status from Archive commad is oly available whe workig with a archive database (AvidAM). 4

5 Istallig the Software I additio, whe upgradig Iterplay Media Services ad providers from versios prior to v1.6.2, you must do the followig: Use the Cotrol Pael to uistall ay previous Avid Iterplay Media Services. Use the Avid Iterplay Istaller to istall the ew versio of the Iterplay Media Services. Use the Iterplay Media Services user iterface to delete all the previous profiles, providers, ad services. It is importat to delete the old profiles, providers, ad services for this release. Use the Iterplay Media Services user iterface to istall the services, register the providers, ad re-create the profiles, as described i the Avid Iterplay Media Services Setup ad User Guide. Movig Files Before Startig the Services (Whe Upgradig from Versios Prior to v1.6) Whe you upgrade the Iterplay Media Services services to v2.7.5 from a versio prior to v1.6, if you wat to use the prior versio s cofiguratio settigs, you eed to move some files to ew locatios. After you istall the Iterplay Media Services services software ad before you start the service, you eed to move the files listed i the followig table from the prior versio s locatio to the ew locatio used by v2.4. The file locatios listed i the followig table are the default istallatio locatios. The locatios of the files o your system could be differet depedig o the locatios selected durig the istallatio of the prior versio. 6 Istallig the Software Istallig SGL FlashNet Cliet Software Durig the cofiguratio ad setup of a Avid Iterplay Archive eviromet, you eed to istall the SGL FlashNet Cliet. Typically, your SGL represetative istalls ad cofigures the FlashNet cliet software o the Iterplay Archive Egie server ad the Archive Provider servers. This sectio provides istallatio procedures for FlashNet Cliet. For more iformatio, see the SGL FlashNet documetatio. Before istallig the FlashNet Cliet, the followig Microsoft Widows compoets must be istalled o the system: Microsoft Message Queuig (MSMQ) software. By default, this compoet of Microsoft Widows does ot istall with the operatig system. See Istallig Microsoft Message Queuig (MSMQ) Software o page 7. SQL Native Cliet software. See Istallig SQL Native Cliet o page 9. If you are istallig FlashNet cliet o a system with Iterplay Media Services Egie istalled, the SQL Native Cliet is ot required because SQL Server 2005 Express is already istalled o the system. To istall FlashNet Cliet: 1. Click FlashNetCliet.exe to ru the istaller. 2. Cotiue through the istall screes util the Select Database Server dialog box opes. 3. I the Database Server text box, type the hostame of the server where the SQL Database is located. This is the FlashNet Archive server. Make sure the FlashNet Archive server is listed i the hosts file o all FlashNet cliet systems i the Avid etwork. If the FlashNet Archive Server is a cluster, type the SQL Cluster Virtual Machie Name. You ca also use the Browse butto to locate the FlashNet Archive Server (database). For iformatio about directly coectig a SGL FlashNet server to a Avid ISIS system, see the Avid Iterplay Media Services Setup ad User s Guide. Optimizig Archive Trasfer Rate i a Avid Shared-Storage Eviromet If you otice archivig is slow, make sure the trasfer rate is set o each archive provider for the correct Avid shared-storage eviromet. The chuk buffer settig cotrols the trasfer rate betwee shared storage ad SGL FlashNet. Cotact your third-party vedor for optimal settigs. 6

7 Istallig the Software To icrease archive ad restore trasfer rates i a Avid shared-storage eviromet: 1. O each archive provider, avigate to C:\\Widows\System32\drivers\etc ad ope the file ietd.cof i Notepad. 2. Chage the default -X chuk buffer settig to a value that matches your Avid shared-storage eviromet. Avid Shared-Storage Eviromet Chuk Buffer Settig a Size Avid ISIS v1.4, v1.5, ad v2.0.1 or later -C MB Avid Uity MediaNetwork v5.x -C MB Avid Uity MediaNetwork v4.2.x -C MB Avid Uity MediaNetwork v4.1.x -C MB a. The -C parameter adjusts the chuk buffer sizes used i the read ad write to the shared storage system. The shared storage versios have differet optimum values for the -C parameter. The trasfer rate varies depedig o the third-party equipmet i your workgroup. The followig illustratio show the Chuk Buffer settig as C Close NotePad. Istallig Microsoft Message Queuig (MSMQ) Software You oly eed to perform this procedure o SR2500 servers if you re-imaged the SR2500 usig a ghost image other tha the Avid Recovery DVD. To istall MSMQ, depedig o the operatig system, do oe of the followig: t For the Microsoft Widows Server 2003 R2 operatig system: a. Select Cotrol Pael > Add or Remove Programs. b. Click Add/Remove Widows Compoets i the left pae. c. Select Applicatio Server ad click Details. The Applicatio Server dialog box opes. d. Select Iteret Iformatio Services (IIS) ad Message Queuig. 7

8 Istallig the Software If you are istallig a cluster, oly select Eable etwork DTC access. t e. Click OK. f. Click Next. g. Restart the system. For the Microsoft Widows XP Professioal SP2 operatig system: a. Select Cotrol Pael > Add or Remove Programs. b. Click Add/Remove Widows Compoets i the left pae. c. Select Iteret Iformatio Services (IIS) ad Message Queuig i the Compoets list. d. Click Next. e. Restart the system. 8

9 Special Notes Istallig SQL Native Cliet To istall SQL Native Cliet: 1. Ope the C:\Documets ad Settigs\Admiistrator.FLASHNET\Desktop\For Istall\sql2005\Tools folder. 2. Click setup.exe to ru the istaller. 3. Click Next o the istaller screes util the Registratio Iformatio dialog box opes. 4. Type a Name ad Compay i the text boxes, ad the click Next. The Feature Selectio dialog box opes. 5. Right-click Cliet Compoets ad select Will be istalled o local hard drive. 6. Click Next util the Ready to Istall dialog box opes. 7. Click Istall to begi the SQL cliet istallatio. Complete the istallatio by clickig Next ad Fiish o the dialog boxes followig the istall completio. Special Notes Chagig the Hostame for the Automatic Archive, Copy, Trascode, ad Trasfer Service The followig procedure describes how to chage the hostame of the Automatic Archive, Copy, Trascode, ad Trasfer service (for example, if you etered the ame icorrectly the first time). For more iformatio about the services settigs, see the Avid Iterplay Media Services Setup ad User s Guide. To chage the hostame for the Automatic Archive, Copy, Trascode, ad Trasfer service: 1. Ope the Avid Service Cofiguratio tool. 2. Ope the display for the system ruig the Automatic Archive, Copy, Trascode, ad Trasfer service. 3. Click the Avid Automatic Archive, Copy, Trascode, ad Trasfer service. 4. Chage the ame ad click Apply. 5. Use the Computer Maagemet tool to restart the service as follows: a. Right-click the My Computer ico o your desktop. b. Select Maage ad select Services ad Applicatios. c. Restart the Avid Automatic Archive, Copy, Trascode, ad Trasfer service. 9

10 Special Notes Locatios of Iterplay Media Services Cofiguratio Files This sectio covers the default istallatio locatios of the Iterplay Media Services Cofiguratio files. You might eed to use the Microsoft Widows Search tool to search for a specific file. If you do ot cofigure a Output task Agility will reame the media files with a _1 i the ame. The reamig of the media files causes the Post-to-Web to fail, because the file ames do ot match. By default, profiles do ot defie Output task. 10

11 Iteratioal Character Support To defie a Output task i a Agility profile: 1. Start Agility cliet ad ope the Mai widow. 2. Ope a profile, do oe of the followig: t Ope a existig profile t Create a ew profile 3. Click Distributio/Add Output. 4. I the Output area, click Output Name eabled. 5. I the Output File Name text box, type: $(baseame).$(extesio). 6. Save the profile. Whe savig the profile, the file ame must iclude double-uderscores surroudig the proposed extesio to match the format of the file output. For example, PTWCable.wmv.job.awp. 7. Save the profile, restart the Agility egie, ad restart ProEcode. The ew profile ow appears i the Post-to-Web > Ecode meu. Iteratioal Character Support For iformatio o usig ICS, search the Avid Iterplay Help for Iteratioal Character Support. Limitatios The followig limitatios were documeted for Media Services versio 2.1 ad earlier. For limitatios i later versios, see the Avid Iterplay v2.7.5 ReadMe. Iterplay Media Services Limitatios Bug Number: udevc The Avid Iterplay Stream Publish Service profile provides settigs for usig SWC. After settig up the profile, you ca right-click a igestig clip i Avid Access ad select Stream Publish > profile. The media is streamed ito the Moitor as it becomes available for publishig, as defied by the profile. However, whe auto-publish picks up the same clip ad seds it to publish the auto-publish profile settigs are used. 11

12 Limitatios Bug Number: udevc You caot Stream Publish duplicated master clips. For example, if you trascode a high resolutio (DNxHD) master clip to MP4, ad the duplicate the master clip, the duplicated clip will oly cotai a lik for the high resolutio (DNxHD). Duplicated clips always lik to the origial master clip s curret video resolutio. Bug Number:. Whe usig Access o a system with a wireless coectio, you should ot ope the Iterplay Media Services status widow. The respose time to ope the status widow might impact your workflow. Bug Number: udevc Archive ad Restore jobs will fail if Germa characters are used i the mxf files. Bug Number: udevc If you chage the laguage Locale settig of the operatig system while the Iterplay Media Services Egie is ruig, you must restart the Iterplay Media Services Egie for it to use the ew laguage Locale. Ay auto-purge time stamps are displayed i the ew locale. Bug Number: udevc Whe you use partial delivery ad partial restore with sequeces that cotai effects, the effects will ot be redered. There is a limitatio with Dyamic Relik ad redered effects whe used durig a partial delivery or a partial restore. I Iterplay Access v2.0, whe you right-click a asset, you will see Move meu selectio. The Move service is ot supported i v2.0. This selectio is a placeholder for a future release. Move service is supported i v2.1 ad later. Bug Number: udevc As regular maiteace of Iterplay Media Services Egie, do ot let the umber of jobs exceed If the jobs exceed the limit, you should purge the jobs list of completed, failed, ad cacelled jobs, the restart the Iterplay Media Services Egie. Bug Number: udevc Throughout the Iterplay eviromet, the DNxHD 120 resolutio is icluded i the DNxHD resolutio, eve though DNxHD 120 does ot appear i the list. Bug Number: udevc New Media Services jobs display at the bottom of the Media Services Status jobs list. Workaroud: To reorder the jobs list with the most reset jobs at the top, sort the jobs list by Submit Time. Bug Number: udevc Clip ames cotaiig more tha 255 characters are ot supported whe usig Iterplay Media Services. 12

13 Limitatios Iterplay Move Service Limitatios Bug Number: udevc Limitatio. Move to Workspace: If you select a master clip that has more tha oe media file of the same resolutio associated with it, you caot move idividual media files. The system moves all the media files of the same resolutio. For example, assume that you cosolidate a clip with the Relik Master clips to media o the target drive optio ad create a ew master clip ad ew media. If you attempt to move the media for the origial master clip, the system moves the media for both clips. If you attempt to move the media for the.old master clip, the system correctly moves oly oe set of media files. Workaroud: I the case of cosolidate, this problem oly happes if you use the "Relik Master clips to media o the target drive optio. This makes the origial clip iherit the ew media, i additio to the origial media, ad the ew clip oly gets the ew media. If you choose "Keep Master clips liked to media o the origial drive", both the origial clip ad the ew clip would have the same umber of media files. These clips Move successfully. Iterplay Trascode Limitatios Bug Number: udevc The Avid Iterplay Trascode service does ot allow trascodig progressive media to o-progressive media, ad does ot allow trascodig from o-progressive media to progressive media. Bug Number: udevc Whe a Iterplay Media Services Trascode cliet has both the Iterplay Media Services Egie ad the Trascode Provider ruig, there is a limit of trascodig 3000 jobs before a Out of Memory error occurs. Workaroud: If you receive a Out of Memory error, you ca quit the Trascode Provider ad restart it. Avid recommeds you restart the Trascode Provider o a regular bases to completely avoid the memory issue. Bug Number: udevc Whe usig Frame Chase Editig (EWC), if you try to trascode subclips after the capture is complete, the trascode fails idicatig the clip is still beig captured eve though the master clips display "complete". Workaroud: After the master clip of the subclip is complete, re-checki the clip to the Iterplay database before you start the trascode. Bug Number: udevc If you submit two trascode jobs for the same source file, ad each job uses a differet provider, the trascode might fail with a DISK FILE NOTE FOUND error. 13

14 Limitatios Workaroud: Try the operatio agai. If you get the same error message, check if the source clip is corrupted, that your cofiguratio is correct, ad that all Iterplay compoets are ruig correctly. Bug Number: udevc Partial restore of NLTEK media will fail with a re-wrap failure if the olie media files are deleted. Workaroud: Perform a full restore of the NLTEK media. Bug Number: udevc Whe several Providers are created (archive, trascode, etc.), but ot all of them are registered, you see the registered provider ames displayed multiple times o the Provider tab of the Media Services Status widow. Workaroud: Make sure all providers are registered. Bug Number: udevc The three DNxHD 720p resolutios displayed i the Media Services Trascode Profile Resolutio meu cotai icorrect values. The existig values are as follows: DNxHD 720p 60, 74, 145 DNxHD 720p 90, 110, 220 DNxHD 720p 90x, 110x, 220x The first set of values i each list should be removed ad the secod set i each list are icorrect. The correct values are as follows: DNxHD 720p 120, 145 DNxHD 720p 185, 220 DNxHD 720p 185x, 220x The 60, 90, ad 90x values should ot be i the list because they correspod to the 720p project type. Film resolutios are ot supported by Media Services Trascode. For more iformatio o resolutios supported by differet project types, search for Resolutio ad Storage Requiremets i the Advaced Guide or Help for your Avid editig applicatio. Bug Number: udevc Deletig trascoded material from a reserved folder. Prior to Iterplay v1.1.2, it was possible to delete trascoded media from a reserved folder. This problem is fixed for trascode operatios that you perform i Iterplay v However, if you upgraded to this release, the problem still exists for media that you have previously trascoded usig the Media Services Trascode Provider. The problem is that if you checked a clip ito a reserved folder ad the used the Trascode provider to trascode the clip, the trascoded clip is ot protected by the reservatio o the folder. 14

15 Limitatios Workaroud: For clips that you trascoded before Iterplay v If you have trascoded clips that reside i reserved folders, check the clips with the desired resolutio back ito the folder agai. This will esure that the reservatio protects the trascoded media. Bug Number: udevc A uderscore at the begiig of the subprofile ame is required whe usig Post-to-Web with Active Cotet Maager. The uderscore lets the ProEcode provider kow which portio of the output fileame to preserve. Bug Number: udevc Media Services Trascode does ot support progressive film resolutios. Workaroud: Use the Cosolidate/Trascode commad i the Avid editig applicatio. You ca use Media Services Trascode to trascode progressive HD resolutios 720p ad Those are ot film resolutios. Bug Number: udevc You caot use Media Services Trascode to Trascode a motio effect clip. The system displays the error Ivalid Media Type. Trascode Failed. Workaroud: Do oe for the followig: t t Use the Bi > Cosolidate/Trascode commad i the Avid editig applicatio to trascode the motio effect clip. Trascode the source master clip that makes up the motio effect usig either Media Services or Avid editor trascode. Supported SD resolutios, such as DV25, check i durig capture. Oly resolutios requirig the ew executio model used for Nitris are affected (DNxHD ad HD ucompressed). Bug Number: udevc , udevc If you restart the Iterplay Media Services egie while the Archive, Restore, or Trascode providers are ruig, the services will ot start up automatically, eve if you have cofigured them to do so. Workaroud: Quit ad restart the services. Bug Number: udevc Telestream FlipFactory: Factories amed with EXT fail whe ProEcode hads the job to FlipFactory for stadard ProEcode ecodig. You ca use oly Factories amed with EXT whe usig Post-to-Web ecodig. Bug Number: udevc , udev as desiged. The Avid editig applicatio does ot war you if you try to sed a Frame Chase editig clip to Iterplay Trascode. Do ot sed igestig clips to Iterplay Trascode. Wait util the clip is completely igested. 15

16 Limitatios Bug Number: udevc A Iterplay Media Services cliet istalled o a system with remote desktop software, such as UltraVNC, prevets the Iterplay Trascode from iitializig properly. Bug Number: udevc , Udev , udevc , udev After you trascode clips usig Iterplay Media Services, Iterplay Access ad the Avid editig applicatio might be slow to update the status or might ot update at all. Bug Number: udevc , udev Avid Iterplay Media Services Trascode: Trascodig to o idexed workspace fails to check i ad orphas media. Bug Number: udevc Avid Iterplay Media Services Trascode: Trascodig from IMX 50, DV 50 to DV 25 is reportig false positive. Bug Number: udevc , udev , udevc With the Media Services ad Trascode provider ruig, whe accessig the Iterplay Media Services ad Trasfer Status widow from the Avid Iterplay Media Services widow, you might see redraw issues where the backgroud shows through the Media Services ad Trasfer Status widow i the foregroud.
