14 Chapter 1 Istallatio Overview Use the Iterplay Istaller DVD software to perform the uistall of the previous versios of software compoets. For example, whe you start the Media Idexer istaller, it will detect whether there is a older versio of the software ad it will ask you if you wat to uistall the previous versio. This is a good way to uistall the previous versio. You do ot have to use the Cotrol Pael to perform the uistall. Do ot uistall the Avid Iterplay Egie or Iterplay Archive Egie software uless istructed by Avid support. Uistallig the software could require additioal steps to reactivate your database. Whe performig a upgrade, the istallatio software takes care of removig the previous versio of the software. 19 Network Cosideratios Computers with Multiple Network Iterfaces Computers that have multiple etwork iterfaces i use must be etered i DNS so that all IP Addresses have the exact same hostame. If you have multiple etwork iterfaces o a computer ad oe is ot used, use the Device Maager to disable the iterface. If ot, the computer may have problems commuicatig with the Iterplay Framework Multicast Repeater. For more iformatio o Multicast Repeaters, see Cofigurig a Multicast Repeater o page 102. Cofigurig a Avid Uity ISIS System O a Avid Uity ISIS system, if your etwork exteds outside of ISIS Zoe 1, you must cofigure a router to commuicate betwee the two VLAN systems. Kow Where your Subets are o the Network Create a system diagram that idetifies the subets o your Avid Iterplay eviromet. You must istall ad cofigure the Multicast Repeater software o each subet as part of the Avid Iterplay Framework istallatio. Time Sychroizatio If you already have a system i place to maitai Time Syc o your etwork, you ca cotiue to use that system. Or you ca use the Iterplay Framework Time Sychroizatio service to perform the same task. The Avid Time Sychroizatio Service eables time sychroizatio betwee differet machies i a workgroup. The Time Sychroizatio Service ca operate i either Master mode or Slave mode. I Master mode, the service retrieves a referece time from a cofigured time source ad redistributes it to the Slave services withi the workgroup. The time source ca be the local PC clock, a NTP server, or a Adriee Timecode card istalled i a server, such as the CaptureMaager server. I Slave mode, the Time Sychroizatio Service listes for time otificatios from the workgroup ad (optioally) sets the local PC clock to match. It is importat to use oly oe time sychroism mechaism to set the local PC clocks i the Iterplay eviromet. If a Time Sychroizatio Slave service is cofigured to set the local PC clock ad it detects that some other mechaism (such as Widows 32 Time Services) chages the local clock, the the Time Syc Slave service will disable itself to avoid the local clock from jumpig back ad forth. The Time Syc slave will also post a Warig i the Health Moitor. 19

Additioal members of a High Availability Group. Members that you add to a High Availability group provide load balacig for the leader ad allow you to add additioal cliet. For example, if you have more tha 50 cliets i your Iterplay eviromet, the you should have two Media Idexers i the High Availability Group; oe cofigured as the leader, ad a secod added for load balacig. 3. 31 Usig the Iterplay Istaller Shuttig Dow a Media Idexer System Do ot shut dow the Media Idexer while it is scaig files. If you do, the Media Idexer may have to rebuild it s cache whe it starts up agai. This ca take a log time o a large system. You ca use the Health Moitor to determie whether the Media Idexer is scaig files. To determie whether a Media Idexer is scaig files: 1. Lauch the Health Moitor ad avigate to the system that is ruig the Media Idexer that you wat to shut dow. 2. Click Avid Iterplay Media Idexer 3. Ope the Avid Iterplay Media Idexer pae. 4. Check the value of the Pedig Files (sca) field. If the Media Idexer is ot scaig files, the it is safe to shut it dow. To shut dow the service, use the Avid Iterplay Workgroup Properties tool. I a small cofiguratio (10 or less users) you ca have the Media Idexer that moitors shared storage o the same system as the Avid Iterplay Egie. If the Media Idexer eeds to rebuild its cache o this type of cofiguratio the Iterplay Egie may become uresposive durig the operatio. Accept the default folder ad click Next. The database folder is the folder i which the database is created ad stored. This locatio must be local, that is, the database folder must be istalled o the Iterplay Egie server. No other cofiguratio is supported. By default the database folder is created at the root of the D: drive as D:\Workgroup_Databases. All access rights are set automatically. If you previously istalled the Iterplay Egie software, this field displays the share ame that appears i the ext dialog box. Avid recommeds that you store file assets o a shared storage workspace rather tha a local drive. To do this, you must perform extra steps after the istallatio. See Recommedatios for Database Storage i the Avid Iterplay Egie ad Avid Iterplay Archive Egie Admiistrator s Guide. The Specify Share Name dialog box opes. 39

The CCS uses this module to store iformatio that is commo to all other Iterplay Egies. Cross-database maagemet of admiistrative tasks, such as User Maagemet, is possible because all of the Iterplay Egies uder the CCS iherit its settigs by default. Select oe of the followig: t t This Avid Iterplay Egie: Specifies that the Iterplay Egie that you are istallig should be the CCS. Click Next. Aother Avid Iterplay Egie: Specifies that a previously istalled Iterplay Egie should be the CSS. A additioal dialog box opes. Type the ame of the Iterplay Egie to be used as the CCS ad click Next. If you wat to specify aother Iterplay Egie, you must specify a Iterplay Egie that is already istalled. If you have ot yet istalled the desired Iterplay Egie, specify the curret Iterplay Egie, istall the desired Iterplay Egie, ad the chage the CCS through the Iterplay Admiistrator. Make sure that the password exactly matches the password for the Avid Uity user with admiistrator privileges. If the user ame ad password do ot match those of the Avid Uity user, the Avid Iterplay Egie will ot ru properly. Cofirm the password. You ca chage the Server Executio User after istallatio. Iterplay cliets use this ame to idetify the server. If there are cliets i your etwork that are uable to resolve hostames to IP addresses, you have to specify the server s IP address here. I this case, the server eeds a static IP address; be sure to cofigure your DHCP server accordigly. A hostame must comply with RFC 952 stadards. For example, you caot use a uderscore i a hostame. For more iformatio, see Namig Covetios i Active Directory for Computers, Domais, Sites, ad OUs o the Microsoft Support Kowledge Base. The server ame etered should ot be more tha 15 characters. Server ames loger tha 15 characters will be trucated ad might cause problems with cliet coectios if there is more tha oe machie i the etwork with the same trucated ame. Cofigurig a Media Idexer to Moitor Shared Storage This procedure describes how to cofigure a Media Idexer be the leader of a High Availability Group ad to also moitor shared storage. This is the basic cofiguratio for a small system with oly oe Media Idexer. The basic procedure is as follows: 1. Idetify the Media Idexer as the leader of a High Availability group. 2. Idetify the shared storage locatios for that Media Idexer to moitor. For more iformatio o usig Media Idexer, see the Avid Iterplay Framework User s Guide. ad the Avid Iterplay Best Practices. Before you cofigure the Media Idexer, verify that the Iterplay Framework services are ruig o the Media Idexer system. For more iformatio, see Importat Istallatio Iformatio o page 53. To cofigure the Media Idexer to moitor shared storage: 1. Click the Start butto, ad the select All Programs > Avid > Iterplay Framework > Avid Iterplay Service Cofiguratio. 2. If more tha oe workgroup appears i the list, click the triagular opeer ext to your Workgroup ame to ope the Workgroup list. 3. O the Hosts tab, select the system that cotais the Media Idexer you wat to use to moitor shared storage, ad select Avid Media Idexer. 4. Click OK whe the system prompts you for the Iterplay Framework admiistrator password. By default, there is o password. 5. I geeral, do t coect directly to the high level workspace ame. Coect to the Avid MediaFiles folder or aother folder i the workspace that you kow cotais valid Avid media files. This way you will avoid attemptig to idex o-avid files. 58

The message Normal idicates that the drive has bee scaed ad is curretly idexed. The message Normal - Scaig idicates the Media Idexer is ow scaig the storage area. O shared storage, the Media Idexer does ot recogize drive letters mapped by the user because it rus as a backgroud service. 13. (Optio) Click Add ad repeat the process to add ay additioal folders. 14. Click Apply ad click OK to close the Cofigure Storages dialog box. The first time that you cofigure a storage folder, the Media Idexer automatically idexes the media i the folder. This might take a while depedig o the amout of media i the folder. You use the Avid Iterplay Workgroup Properties tool to idetify the Lookup services o the differet multicast domais. You ca istall more tha oe Multicast Repeater for redudacy. If multiple Multicast Repeaters are i the same multicast domai, they defer resposibility to oe aother so that oly oe is active at a time. Whe a Multicast Repeater receives a message tueled to it from aother Multicast Repeater, it multicasts the message agai i its ow multicast domai. A multicast domai boudary usually occurs whe you have machies ruig i differet subets. However, routers ca be cofigured to pass multicasts to other subets, so a subet is ot always the boudary of a multicast domai. Example of Cofigurig Multicast Repeaters Assume that your workgroup is primarily i multicast domai #1 ad you wat to add a machie from multicast domai #2 to the workgroup. I this case, istall a Multicast Repeater ad a Lookup service o a server i multicast domai #2. The machie ruig Multicast Repeater ad Lookup Service should be oe that rarely requires a restart because stoppig the Multicast Repeater causes commuicatios disruptio betwee the multicast domais. You ca also use this techique whe you have problems cofigurig a Multicast repeater ad eed to quickly coect systems to the Iterplay Framework. The mai drawback to usig the Uicast Discovery coectio method is that if there are multiple systems ruig the lookup service, you should coect to each oe. This ca take a lot of cofiguratio time i a large istallatio. If you do t coect to all of the Lookup service systems, if the oe you are coected to goes dow you lose your coectio to the iterplay Framework. To directly coect a system to a Lookup service: 1. Determie the fully qualified domai ame of the system ruig the Lookup service. For example, the followig defies the domai ame of the server amed DocWG: docwg.global.avidww.com 2. O the system o the remote subet, click the Start butto, ad the select All Programs > Avid > Iterplay Framework > Avid Iterplay Workgroup Properties. 3. Click the Lookup tab. 4. Select the Workgroup that you wat to coect to ad click Add i the Lookup services widow. Updatig Software o a AirSpeed You ca use the Software tab o Airspeed to update software from a.iso image o a web server o the etwork. This sectio describes a method that uses the Apache web server ruig o the Avid Iterplay Egie. Read the latest AirSpeed Readme before istallig the AirSpeed software. To update AirSpeed software i a Iterplay Eviromet: 1. Before you begi, obtai the.iso image for the AirSpeed software update as described i the Avid AirSpeed Istallatio ad User s Guide. Make sure that the ame follows the amig covetios i the AirSpeed guide. 1. Navigate to the followig folder o the Avid Iterplay Egie: C:\Program Files\Avid Iterplay Egie\data\Apache\root The path to the Avid Iterplay Egie folder may be differet depedig o your istallatio. 2. Create a Airspeed folder i the Apache\root directory. This is a coveiece; you ca use ay ame for the folder. 3. Copy the.iso image to the Apache\root\AirSpeed directory. 4. Start AirSpeed. 5. Click the Setup butto ad click the Software tab. 117
