1 1. Intrductin This manual cvers the descriptin, peratin, and maintenance f the Siecr Cmpact Fusin Set II. The CFS II splicer is available with either heat shrink r Splice Pak splice prtectin fixtures bth mdels are described in this manual. The Cmpact Fusin Set II incrprates the autmatic features f fiber alignment with the splice quality and lss estimating features f the award winning manual splicer, the Cmpact Fusin Set. After preparing and clamping the fibers in the CFS II, the push f ne buttn aligns and fuses the fibers. Tw perpendicular views f the fibers are captured by a CCD camera and displayed at 100x magnificatin n a large 4-inch LCD. This digital image is analyzed fr cleave quality and fiber alignment by a micrprcessr which cntrls the psitining and fusin f the fibers. The image is then analyzed after the splice and an estimated lss is determined and displayed. The CFS II has a rubber base fr added prtectin against minr bumps and scratches. 3 Clean Key Fuse Key Fiber Cating Clamps Light Twer Fiber Clamp Electrde Light Twer Retainer Pin Pwer LED Prgram Key Mde/Select Right Fiber Psitin Keys This key gaps the fibers and fires a cleaning arc in the manual mde. This key fires the fusin arc and pushes the fibers tgether in the manual mde r begins the cmplete prcess in the autmatic mde. The inside clamps n the right and left f the V-grve grip the fiber n the 250µm acrylate r 900µm uter cating. This remvable assembly cntains the bare fiber clamp as well as the LED s used t illuminate the fiber fr display n the screen. The twer shuld be remved and secured in the transit case during transprt r strage. This clamp cntacts the fiber while in the V-grve and maintains prper alignment during the fusin prcess. Each electrde is secured by a hex head screw. Remve the light twer by pulling this pin ut. LED which indicates that pwer is n flashing indicates a lw battery. This key allws the peratr t enter the prgram mde and t select functins nce in the mde. These keys mve the right fiber hrizntally in the manual mde. Charger Input The charger can be plugged int the fusin set at this pint t charge the battery inside the splicer. Intrductin 5

4 Splice Pak Fixture Transfer Arm Pwer Key Tray Bracket Hlder V-Grve This device hlds an pen Splice Pak prtectr and its pressure arm securely seals the prtectr. The mechanism used t transfer a cmpleted splice frm the fiber arc zne t the Splice Pak fixture (available nly with Splice Pak mdel). This turns the unit n and ff. This is a raised area n the case where the rganizer tray hlder brackets snap n. Used t align fibers fr fusing.
