2 Overview Paragn II release 4.8 prvides several enhancements and maintenance items particularly in the area f muse/keybard supprt and updated smart card/cac supprt. Updated Firmware Versin 4.8 f Paragn II prvides firmware updates fr several f the platfrm s cmpnents. 3 Enhancements Supprt fr the IHSE Fiber Extender Paragn II nw supprts an IHSE DDXi digital KVM fiber extender t enable greater distance between users and target devices & servers. With the use f this extender, the user can be lcated up t 4921 feet (1500 m) away frm a Paragn II user statin. The IHSE part number fr this fiber extender is K443-2U. The fllwing diagram shws the cnnectin t the P2-EUST. Users are lcated with the DDXi Remte Unit (7), which may be lcated in a building separate frm the Paragn II equipment if desired. 4 Updated Smart Card Supprt Paragn II has been enhanced t supprt smart card/cac/piv cards that require higher data thrughput, such as the Gemalt TOPDLGX4 144 and Gemalt Cyberflex Access 64K V2c. Supprt fr the SMK-Link RemtePint EmeraldNavigatr Wireless Pinter Paragn II nw supprts cnnecting this wireless pinter t the P2-EUST user statin (nte nt cmpatible with P2-EUST/C). When used with Paragn II, a pinter is a cnvenient navigatin tl in a variety f large display applicatins, such as a NOC r bradcast envirnment. Nte that Paragn II 4.8 has been engineered t specifically supprt the RemtePint EmeraldNavigatr wireless pinter and is the nly such prduct cmpatible with Paragn II. Please refer t the 4.8 update t the Paragn II User Guide fr further details. Supprt fr 12 and 16 Bit Mice and Keybards Mice and keybards in use befre this release are still cmpatible with Paragn II. Hwever, sme newer mdel mice and keybards have sme updated specificatins that need t be supprted; particularly the bit cunt. Release 4.8 has been enhanced t supprt the latest. Nte that nt all prducts n the market can be tested. Raritan has tested and apprved the fllwing prducts fr use with Paragn II. This des nt represent all mice and keybards that may functin prperly with Paragn II. 6 Special Ntes (General) 1. The UKVMSPD, which is a Paragn I Z-CIM, became incmpatible with Paragn II as f release Custmers that wish t cntinue using the UKVMSPD in its Z-CIM capacity shuld nt upgrade t r future Paragn II releases. Additinally, please nte the fllwing: If a UKVMSPD user has upgraded their Paragn II cmpnents t 4.4.1, they shuld rll back t 4.4. Prir releases are prvided alng with the current ne at If a UKVMSPD user desires t upgrade t and requires the use f Z-CIMs, they will need t replace them. The direct replacement fr the UKVMSPD is the P2ZCIM-PS2. Fr USB cnnectins, the P2ZCIM-USB is als available. Nte that replacements fr the UKVMSPD will be prvided under warranty nly if the custmer is required t upgrade t in rder t fix a serius system issue. The UKVMSPD can cntinue t be used fr its lcal PC access feature, in which the CIM is cnnected t the I/O prts f a PC lcated near the Paragn user statin, thereby enabling access frm the user statin t bth the PC and the Paragn switch. The Paragn II Z-CIMs (P2ZCIM-PS2 and P2ZCIM-USB) d nt supprt the lcal PC feature. 2. Using Cmb Keybards: Many keybards sld tday have USB prts built int them, allwing fr the use f a variety f peripherals. In many cases, users have begun t utilize these USB prts fr the purpse f cnnecting a muse. It s imprtant t nte that the Paragn II user statin s USB prts may nly be used fr cnnecting ne keybard and ne muse. If a muse is cnnected t the keybard, the secnd USB prt n the user statin autmatically deactivates. In ther wrds, if the keybard and muse is cnnected thrugh ne USB prt, the user statin has reached its keybard/muse limit and cannt accept anther I/O device in the pen prt.
