4 OVERVIEW The Bematech LC8100 prvides unparalleled reliability by being a fanless unit with n mving mechanical parts. It is an ideal cmputer fr use in harsh envirnments with high levels f dust r il when fan nise is nt desirable. Fr mass strage, slid state drive prvides true n-mving-part peratin. In additin, all cmpnents and cnnectrs reside n ne PC bard, thus n internal cables (surces f cmmn lse cnnectins) are required. The cmputer is hused in a rugged die cast case fr extra prtectin. The LC8100 has a very cmpact frm factr - nly 2 H x 8 W x 6 L. Tw munting brackets enable these units t be munted almst anywhere n a wall, ceiling, table tp r under a cunter. The LC8100 uses dual-cre Intel Baytrail prcessrs, s it can run Windws and Linux-based applicatins. This enables the unit t be used in a wide variety f applicatins. The LC8100 als prvides a very impressive cmpliment f up-t-date I/O prts VGA, Ethernet, PS/2, USB, and RS232 are all included. *Ask ur Technical Supprt Team fr mre details n supprted distributins. 1

5 CARE AND HANDLING The fllwing tips will help keep yur LC8100 functining at the ptimal level: Remember t unplug the display unit frm the pwer utlet befre cleaning. D nt use alchl (methyl, ethyl r isprpyl) r any strng disslvent. D nt use thinner r benzene, abrasive cleaners r cmpressed air. T clean the LC8100 unit cabinet, use a clth lightly dampened with a mild detergent. D nt immerse unit in water. Put the cleaner n the rag and wipe the LC8100. Never apply the cleaner directly n thelc8100. Avid getting liquids inside the LC8100. If liquid des get inside, have a qualified service technician check it befre yu pwer it n again. Unplug this prduct frm the wall utlet befre cleaning. D nt use liquid cleaners r aersl cleaners. Use a damp clth fr cleaning. We recmmend all servicing dne n this prduct be dne by qualified service persnnel. Aside frm upgrades r swapping ut the SSD r hard-drive please refer all ther servicing t the Bematech RMA Dept. 2

7 INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS SAFETY TIPS Read these instructins carefully. Save these instructins fr future reference. Install this unit nly in the manner intended by the manufacturer. If yu have questins, cntact the manufacturer Installatin measures must be taken t prevent physical damage t the pwer supply crd, including prper ruting f the pwer supply crd and prvisin f a receptacle (scket utlet) near the fixed ITE, r psitining the fixed ITE near a receptacle (scket utlet). Installatin wrk and electrical wiring must be dne by qualified persn(s) in accrdance with all applicable cdes & standards, including fire-rated cnstructin. Dn't attach pwer supply cable t the building surface r thrugh walls, ceilings, flrs and similar penings. D nt allw anything t rest n the pwer crd. D nt lcate this prduct where persns will walk n the crd. When cutting r drilling int wall r ceiling, d nt damage electrical wiring and ther hidden utilities. Install the system away frm sun rays, vapr, gases, smke, humidity and suspended particles. Allw at least 6 inches f space frm the tp f the unit and 3 inches frm the sides t allw prper ventilatin. (This will be explained in the munting instructins) If any prblem ccurs, d nt try t repair the equipment by yurself, nr allw any unauthrized persn t fix. Cntact the manufacture fr assistance. As a safety measure, it is advised the use f a vltage stabilizer r UPS between the equipment and the line scket. 4

8 This prduct shuld be perated frm the type f pwer indicated n the pwer adaptr. If yu are nt sure f the type f pwer available, cnsult yur dealer r lcal pwer cmpany. The feeding line shuld be exclusive fr the equipment, unless it is used fr ther cmpatible equipment and it shuld nt verpass the maximum cnsumptin f the line. Phtcpy machines, electrical mtrs and any ther high cnsumptin equipment shuld be installed islated frm this equipment. If an extensin crd is used with this prduct, make sure that the ttal ampere rating f the equipment plugged int the extensin crd des nt exceed the extensin crd ampere rating. Als, make sure that the ttal rating f all prducts plugged int the wall utlet des nt exceed the fuse rating. Unplug this prduct frm the wall utlet and refer servicing t qualified service persnnel under the fllwing cnditins: 1. If the pwer crd r plug is damaged r frayed 2. If liquid has been spilled int the prduct 3. If the prduct has been expsed t rain r water 4. If the prduct des nt perate prperly when the perating instructins are fllwed 5. If the prduct has been drpped r the cabinet has been damaged 6. If the prduct exhibits a distinct change in perfrmance, indicating a need fr service There is risk f electrical shck, even with the wire discnnected frm the electrical netwrk. Cntact the Manufacture Service centers whenever necessary. Dn t try t replace the lithium battery cell under any circumstances. There is risk f explsin if an incrrect type f lithium battery cell used. Dispse f used batteries accrding t the instructins. 5

9 COMPONENT PLACEMENT The fllwing is recmmended when yu plan the LC8100 setup: Place the LC8100 s that: 1. The RESET buttn is accessible. 2. The beeps frm the speakers can be heard. 3. The LED indicatr n the frnt panel can be seen. Place the LC8100 abve grill/cunter level, ut f the way f pssible spills. Leave enugh spaces arund the unit fr ventilatin. MOUNTING INSTRUCTIONS 1. TOOLS/MATERIALS REQUIRED Wd screws (2 pieces - 1/8" x 1" 1/2) Cncrete wall anchrs (2 pieces - 1/16" x 3/8") Measuring tape Electric drill with 5/16 and 3/8 Bits Phillips Screw driver Stud finder 2. 10 3. DEVICE LOCATION The lcatin f installatin shuld meet the fllwing cnditins: Have enugh space fr its peratin and preventive and crrective maintenance. Advisably, the flr shuld nt be wden, in rder t avid electrstatic shcks n the equipment. Install the equipment in a stable place, with n vibratins. D nt install the equipment n a mbile table (with wheels). The vide mnitr shuld be place strategically s that the lights f the rm d nt reflect the peratr, disturbing the crrect visibility f the screen. 4. ELECTRICAL & INSTALLATION REQUIREMENTS Electrical requirements It is the custmer s respnsibility t bserve all gverning cdes and rdinances, and assure that the electrical installatin is adequate and in cnfrmance with Natinal Electrical Cde: ANSI/NFPA 70 latest editin*, r CSA Standards C , Canadian Electrical Cde, Part 1 and C22.2 N.0-M91 - latest editin** and all lcal cdes and rdinances. Have an electrical netwrk with a grund cnnectin, with a three pin plug (2 ples and the grund) in rder t be cmpatible with the cable f the equipment. Check that the vltage selectr is in the psitin crrespnding t the electrical prvisin. Electrical netwrk pwer supply: VAC~1.5A, 50/60 Hz Befre munting the device, please make sure that: Munting brackets are prvided t facilitate munting the LC8100 t a wall. Vertical munting stand is used fr munting the LC8100 vertically n the cunter tp. 7

11 The installer shuld insure that the wall anchrs used with the munting brackets have the capacity t supprt 5.5 kg (12 lb.). This weight is determined by adding a safety margin weight t the weight f the unit. Wall anchrs with specified weight capacity are available cmmercially. The pwer utlet scket is lcated near t the desired munting lcatin fr the LC MOUNTING THE DEVICE Munt the LC8100 hrizntally with the munting brackets Allw at least 6 inches f space frm the tp f the unit and 3 inches frm the sides t allw prper ventilatin. See the picture belw. 1. push tw munting brackets ut, and tighten the screws 8

12 2. munt the LC8100 n the cunter tp with screws Munting the LC8100 t the wall with the munting brackets Allw at least 3 inches f space frm the tp f the unit and 6 inches frm the sides t allw prper ventilatin. See the picture belw. 9

13 1. Push Push tw munting brackets ut in the same as described in hrizntal munting abve. 2. Munt the LC8100 with wd screws (2 pieces - 1/8" x 1" 1/2) The screws must be driven n the wall studs r use drywall anchrs if it is a dry wall. Use cncrete wall anchrs (2 pieces - 1/16" x 3/8") if it is a cncrete wall. The LC8100 is a fanless and ventless unit. Heat is dissipated thrugh the metal case. S, allw at least 6 inches f space frm the tp f the unit and 3 inches frm the sides fr prper ventilatin. It s recmmended t munt the unit vertically t maximize ventilatin effect. Vertical munting stands are available frm Bematech. 10

14 CONNECTIONS AND TURNING ON POWER Make sure that all systems are pwered ff befre making r remving any cnnectins t the LC8100 unit. Fllw the steps belw in cnnecting the devices: 1. Cnnect the VGA cable f the display mnitr t the LC Cnnect the RS232 cables f serial devices t the LC Cnnect the parallel cable f parallel device t parallel prt f LC Cnnect the PS/2 keybard (r bump bar) and muse t the LC8100. Nte that the bump bar cable cnnectr has cnnectr lcking feature t prevent cnnectr frm being pulled ut by pulling the cable. When plugging in the cnnectr, grab the cnnectr at the end f the plug and push in tightly until it is fully snapped int the scket. 5. Cnnect the Ethernet cable frm Ethernet hub r switch t the LC Cnnect ther peripherals such as speakers and USB devices t the LC Cnnect pwer t all peripheral devices and turn n pwer. 8. Cnnect pwer adapter t the LC8100. Make sure that the flat side f pwer plug is riented upwards. Reversing the rientatin and frcefully plugging int the pwer scket will result in damage t the cnnectr. (When unplugging pwer adapter frm LC8100, d nt pull the cable. The cnnectr has a lcking functin that is released by hlding the plug and pulling backwards. If the cnnectr is frced ut by pulling the cable, it may result in damage t the cnnectr.) 9. Cnnect pwer crd t the pwer adapter and plug the pwer crd int AC pwer utlet. (The pwer adapter must be cnnected t the LC8100 f i r s t befre it is cnnected t AC pwer utlet. D nt cnnect AC pwer befre cnnecting t LC8100). 10. By default, the unit is set t turn n pwer autmatically when pwer is cnnected. If it des nt pwer up, press the n/ff switch n the frnt panel t turn n pwer and check fr crrect CMOS cnfiguratin settings. 11. If the LC8100 had been shutdwn frm the perating system, it may be restarted by pressing the pwer n/ff switch n the frnt panel f the LC8100. T turn ff pwer t the unit, press and hld the pwer n/ff switch fr 5 secnds. 11

15 BIOS SETTING Each time the LC8100 is pwered n, it will run a self diagnstic and cntinue bting frm strage media. BIOS settings are stred in a CMOS memry. T enter BIOS setup, as sn as yu hear the system beep, just befre LCI lg splash screen appears, quickly press the [Delete] key n the keybard. Use arrw keys t navigate t different menu items and press [Enter] t select menu. Use -/+ keys t change the field value r press [Enter] t g t sub screen. When cnfiguratin is finished, press [F10] key t save the settings and exit setup. In mst f the applicatins, parameters are detected autmatically the default cnfiguratin will be suitable. There are nly a few parameters that might need t be custmized fr sme applicatins. Examples f such cases are shwn belw: 12

16 Bt Device Pririty Sequence T specify the bt sequence frm available devices, enter the [Bt] menu. Then setup [Bt Optin Pririties] t chse the pririty desired fr the bting prcess frm the list f available bt devices. I/O Cnfiguratin: Serial Prts T cnfigure the serial prts, g t [Advanced] menu. Select [Super IO Cnfiguratin] and then yu will be able t chse / change the address and IRQ fr all the prts. Fr each serial prts, ptin is available t select pwer functin n pin 9 f the prt: Disabled +5V +12V Netwrk bt If yu desire t enable yur system t bt frm a netwrk, g t [Advanced] menu. Then setup [Netwrk] ptin t select "UEFI nly" r "Legacy nly". Save the settings and rebt int BIOS, the netwrk bt ptins will then be available [Bt] menu. Restre t Optimized Defaults If the BIOS settings are accidently changed and it s necessary t restre setting t the ptimized default values, select menu [Save & Exit] and then [Restre Defaults]. Select [Yes] in the cnfirmatin dialg bx. Then select [Save Changes and Exit] (r press [F10]) t save the changes. 13

17 TROUBLESHOOTING There are n user serviceable cmpnents inside the LC8100. Service shuld be perfrmed nly by Bematech r qualified persnnel certified by Bematech. The fllwing guide lines will help in identifying the surce f a prblem: Vide mnitr display is blank 1. If the pwer LED n the mnitr is ff, check that the mnitr is prperly cnnected t its pwer supply and the pwer supply is prperly plugged int a functining AC utlet. 2. Adjust the cntrast cntrls n the mnitr display. 3. Check that the vide cable is plugged in prperly n bth the mnitr and the LC If the pwer LED n LC8100 is ff, check that the LC8100 is prperly cnnected t its pwer supply adapter and the pwer adapter is prperly plugged int a functining AC utlet. 5. If the LC8100 is cnnected t a pwer supply but the pwer LED is ff, press the pwer buttn t turn n the unit. If it des nt turn n, try replacing the pwer supply. 6. Replace the LC8100 if necessary. Vide mnitr display is blue r frzen 1. Reset the LC8100 and check the system infrmatin n the screen during bt up. 2. If unit rebts crrectly, try running applicatin again. If same prblem ccurs, try reinstalling the applicatin sftware. 3. If unit cannt rebt crrectly, try replacing the hard disk drive (r SSD). Statin is nt cmmunicating with server Applicatin 1. Check that the LC8100 s' IP addresses are crrect and unique (n cnflict) and the prt number matches applicatin sftware setup. 2. Check the Ethernet cable cnnectins at the prblem LC8100 s and at the Ethernet hub r switch. 3. Check that hst server IP address matches the LC8100 IP address grup. Try pinging ne f the LC8100 IP address frm the hst. 4. Check hst server applicatin sftware setup. Restart sftware if necessary and test again. 5. Rebt the hst server and test again. 6. Replace Ethernet hub r switch and test again. 14

18 LC8100 des nt respnd t keybard cmmands 1. Check the keybard cable cnnectins at bth the keybard and the LC8100. Unplug the cable and re-insert fully. Check whether it snaps in crrectly. Nte that it s necessary t hld the back end f the PS2 cnnectr near the cable exit and push in hard t get the lcking cnnectr int place. 2. Test with knwn gd keybard and cable. If it wrks, replace the cable and/r keybard. Attached RS232 device is nt wrking 1. Check that the device and LC8100 have pwer. 2. Check RS232 cnnectins at the device and LC Check whether baud rate and data frmat settings f applicatin is matching with the device. 4. Attach the wrap plug t the device end f the RS232 cable and run an RS232 prt test prgram. If the test passes, replace the serial device. If the test fails, g t step Attach a wrap plug t the RS232 prt f the LC8100 and rerun the RS232 lp test. If the test passes, replace the RS232 cable. If the test fails, replace the LC8100. LC8100 des nt bt frm internal msata SSD 1. Check in BIOS setting whether the bt device pririty is set t bt frm msata (nte that the msata SSD is installed as SATA hard disk drive). 2. Check if the perating system n the msata SSD is crrupted. If s, try reinstalling the perating system r replace the msata SSD. 15
