6 Safety precautons Safety precautons a - Read the safety precautons and the user gude before use. - Explan ther content and the potental hazards assocated wth usng the devce to your chldren. - The devce cannot be used n the event of a power falure. In case of a power falure t s also not possble to make emergency calls. - Emergency numbers cannot be dalled f the keypad/dsplay lock s actvated! Do not use the devces n envronments wth a potental exploson hazard (e.g. pant shops). The devces are not splashproof. For ths reason do not nstall them n a damp envronment such as bathrooms or shower rooms. Use only the power adapter ndcated on the devce. Use only rechargeable batteres that correspond to the specfcaton (see "Specfcatons"). Never use a conventonal (non-rechargeable) battery or other battery types as ths could result n sgnfcant health rsks and personal njury. Rechargeable batteres, whch are notceably damaged, must be replaced. If you gve your telephone to a thrd party, make sure you also gve them the user gude. Remove faulty devces from use or have them repared by our Servce team, as these could nterfere wth other wreless servces. Do not use the devce f the dsplay s cracked or broken. Broken glass or plastc can cause njury to hands and face. Send the devce to our Servce department to be repared. Do not hold the rear of the handset to your ear when t s rngng or when speaker mode s actvated. Otherwse you rsk serous and permanent damage to your hearng. Your telephone s compatble wth the majorty of dgtal hearng ads on the market. However, perfect functon wth all hearng ads cannot be guaranteed. The phone may cause nterference n analogue hearng ads (hummng or whstlng) or cause them to overload. If you requre assstance, please contact the hearng ad suppler. Usng your telephone may affect nearby medcal equpment. Be aware of the techncal condtons n your partcular envronment, e.g. doctor's surgery. If you use a medcal devce (e.g. a pacemaker), please contact the devce manufacturer. They wll be able to advse you regardng the susceptblty of the devce to external sources of hgh frequency energy (for the specfcatons of your product see "Specfcatons"). To prevent loss of hearng, avod lstenng at hgh volume over long perods of tme. 4

7 Gettng started Contents of the package One base, One power adapter for the base, One telephone cord, One handset, One battery cover (rear cover for the handset), Two batteres, One user gude. Gettng started For each addtonal handset: two batteres, a battery cover and a chargng cradle wth power adapter. Settng up the base and chargng cradle (f suppled) The base and chargng cradle are desgned for use n closed, dry rooms wthn a temperature range of +5 C to +45 C. Poston the base on a level, non-slp surface at a central pont n the buldng or house, or mount the chargng cradle onto the wall. The devce's feet do not usually leave any marks on surfaces. However, due to the multtude of dfferent varnshes and polshes used on today's furnshngs, marks on the surfaces cannot be completely ruled out. Never expose the telephone to heat sources, drect sunlght or other electrcal devces. Protect your telephone from mosture, dust, corrosve lquds and vapours. Pay attenton to the range of the base. Ths s up to 50 m nsde buldngs and up to 300 m n unobstructed outdoor areas. The range s reduced when Max. Range s deactvated ( page 17). Connectng the base Telephone connecton Twst V AC 50/60Hz The power adapter must always be connected, as the telephone wll not operate wthout a power supply. Only use the suppled power adapter and telephone cord. Pn connectons on telephone cables can vary (pn connectons page 30). 5

8 Gettng started Connectng the chargng cradle (f ncluded) Connect the flat plug of the power adapter to the chargng cradle 1. Plug the power adapter nto the power socket 2. If you have to remove the plug from the chargng cradle agan: Dsconnect the power adapter from the mans power supply. 3 4 Press the release button Dsconnect the plug. Settng up the handset for use The dsplay s protected by a plastc flm: Remove the protectve flm! Insertng the batteres a Use only rechargeable batteres recommended ( page 29), as ths could otherwse result n sgnfcant njury to health and materal damage. For example, the outer casng of the batteres could be destroyed or the batteres could explode. The telephone could also malfuncton or be damaged as a result of usng batteres that are not of the recommended type Insert the batteres (for correct +/- drecton, see dagram). Insert the battery cover from the top 1. Then press the cover untl t clcks nto place 2. To open the battery cover: Grp the notch on the cover 3 and slde t downwards 4. Chargng the batteres Charge the batteres fully pror to frst use n the base/chargng cradle. The batteres are fully charged when the power con dsappears from the dsplay. 4 h = + = U a The handset may only be placed n the desgnated base/chargng cradle. The battery may heat up durng chargng. Ths s not dangerous. After a tme, the charge capacty of the battery wll decrease for techncal reasons. 6

If, however, a handset has not been regstered (dsplay "Regster handset" or "Place handset nto base"), you must regster t to the base. Date and tme Set the date/tme so that the correct date and tme can be assgned to ncomng calls, and so that you can use the alarm. 10 Usng the telephone Swtchng the handset on/off In dle status: Press and hold the End call key a. Lockng/unlockng the keypad Usng the telephone The keypad lock prevents any accdental use of the telephone. Actvatng/deactvatng keypad lock: ( hold down If a call s sgnalled on the handset, the keypad automatcally unlocks. The call can be accepted. It then locks agan when the call s fnshed. Control key The control key allows you to navgate wthn menus and entry felds. In dle status or durng a external call, t has the followng functons: In dle status Durng a conversaton Open phonebook. s Open phonebook. s Open the man menu. v Mute mcrophone. v Open lst of handsets. u Intate an nternal consultaton call. u Open the Audo Settngs ( page 22) menu. t Adjust the loudspeaker volume for earpece and handsfree mode. t In the descrpton below, the sde of the control key (up, down, rght, left) that you have to press n the dfferent operatng stuatons s marked n black, e.g. v for "press rght on the control key". 11 Usng the telephone Menu gudance The functons of the telephone are dsplayed on a menu that conssts of several levels. Openng the man menu (n dle status): Press rght v on the control key... scroll to the functon wth the control key q OK Returnng to the prevous menu level: Press the dsplay key Back or Brefly press the End call key a Returnng to dle status Press and hold the End call key a. If no key s pressed, the dsplay wll automatcally change to dle status after 2 mnutes. Names n the phonebook Selectng letters/characters: Multple letters and characters are assgned to each key between Q and O, see character charts page 30. Selectng desred letters/characters:... Placng the handset n the chargng cradle durng a call: Press and hold down the Talk key c... Place the handset n the chargng cradle... hold down c for a further 2 seconds Call volume Accessng the settngs durng a call for the mode currently n use (handsfree, earpece): Control key t... set volume wth q OK The settng s automatcally stored after around 2 seconds, even f OK s not pressed. 15 Usng the telephone Messages Message lsts Incomng messages are saved n the message lsts. An advsory tone sounds as soon as a new entry appears on a lst. The Message key also flashes (f actvated, page 13). Icons for message types and the number of new messages are shown on the dle dsplay: Ã on the network malbox ( page 12) n the call lst ( page 14). Openng message lsts Press the Message key f... select message lst wth q: Net. MBX: Network malbox ( page 12) CallsLst: Call lst ( page 14)... Open selected message lst wth OK If new messages are avalable, only lsts wth new messages are dsplayed. The con for the network malbox s always dsplayed, provded the number s stored n the telephone. The other lsts are only dsplayed f they contan messages. If you select the network malbox, the network malbox number wll be selected ( page 12). Lsts are not opened on the dsplay. Flashng message key Recept of new messages s dsplayed by a flashng message key on the handset. Ths type of alert can be actvated/deactvated. Menu P(Q5(... the number 9 appears on the dsplay... select the message type wth ~: Messages on the network malbox M4 Mssed calls M5... the number 9 followed by the entry (e.g. 975) s dsplayed, the current settng flashes n the entry feld (e.g. 0)... customse for new messages wth ~: The Message key flashes Q The Message key does not flash 1... confrm desred settng wth OK Example Ð U Ã Redal Menu 13

16 Usng the telephone Call lsts The call lst contans the last 25 numbers for all calls or for only mssed (not receved) calls, dependng on the type of lst set. The followng nformaton s dsplayed n the lst entres: Entry status: New Call: New mssed call. Old Call: Entry already read. Answ.: Call was accepted. Example New Call 02 Caller's number. If the number s saved n the phonebook, the name s dsplayed nstead. Date and tme of call (f set). 18 Usng the telephone Copyng an entry/phonebook The entre phonebook or ndvdual entres can be coped. h The sendng and recevng handset must both be regstered to the same base. The other handset and the base can send and receve phonebook entres. An external call nterrupts the transfer. VIP Caller Melody and VIP Caller Colour are not coped. Entres wth numbers already stored are dscarded. 19 Addtonal functons Alarm clock Addtonal functons An alarm call s sgnalled on the dsplay and wth the selected volume and melody ( page 22) for a maxmum of 60 seconds. An alarm call sounds. Deactvate untl the next alarm call: Press Off Snooze mode: Press Snooze or press any key... the alarm call wll be deactvated and repeated 5 mnutes later If no key s pressed, the alarm call deactvates tself after 60 seconds and s repeated 5 mnutes later. After the second repetton, the alarm call s deactvated for 24 hours. ECO DECT The devce range s set to maxmum as default. Ths guarantees optmum wreless management. The handset wll not functon n dle status, as t s not transmttng (No Radaton). Only the base wll mantan contact wth the handset va a low wreless sgnal. Durng a call, the transmsson power automatcally adapts to the dstance between the base and handset. The smaller the dstance to the base, the lower the radaton. To reduce the radaton further: Reducng radaton by up to 80% Menu q Settngs OK q System OK q ECO DECT OK q Max. Range OK ( = deactvated) The range s also reduced wth ths settng. 17

20 Addtonal functons Deactvatng radaton n dle status Menu q Settngs OK q System OK ECO DECT OK No Radaton OK (³ = deactvated) To beneft from the advantages of the settng No Radaton, all regstered handsets must support ths feature. If the settng No Radaton s actvated and a handset s regstered to the base that does not support ths feature, No Radaton s automatcally deactvated. As soon as ths handset s deregstered, No Radaton wll automatcally be re-actvated. The wreless connecton wll only be establshed for an ncomng or outgong call and the connecton wll be delayed by about 2 seconds. So that a handset can establsh a wreless connecton wth the base more quckly for an ncomng call, t must "lsten" to the base more often,.e. scan the envronment. Ths ncreases power usage and reduces the standby and talktme of the handset. When No Radaton s actvated, there wll be no range dsplay/range alarm on the handset. Contactablty can be tested by attemptng to establsh a connecton. Hold down the Talk key c... the rngng tone sounds. 18

21 Expandng the functonalty of the telephone Expandng the functonalty of the telephone Multple handsets Upgrade the telephone to a cordless PABX. Compatblty You can regster any addtonal handset whch supports the DECT/GAP norm. Only ncomng and outgong calls wll functon. Other functons mght not be supported. Regsterng A total of up to four handsets can be regstered to the base. h On the base: Hold down (mn. 3 seconds) the regstraton/pagng key ( page 1)... and on the Twst 454 handset: Menu q Settngs OK q Regstraton OK Regster Handset OK... enter system PIN f necessary (default settng: 0000) OK The connecton to the base s establshed; ths may take some tme. Handset regstraton must be ntated on the base and on the handset. Both must be carred out wthn 60 secs. The handsets are automatcally assgned names "INT 1", "INT 2" etc. Each handset wll automatcally be assgned the lowest unassgned number (1-4). Successful regstraton s shown on the dsplay. If four handsets are already regstered to the base (all nternal numbers assgned), the handset wth the nternal number 4 wll be replaced wth the new one. If ths s not possble, because a conversaton s beng held on ths handset for example, the message No free Internal Number s gven. In ths case, another handset that s no longer requred should be de-regstered and the regstraton process should be repeated. For other handsets wth GAP functonalty: regster the handset n accordance wth the relevant user gude. Your own handset s not dsplayed. If only one other handset s regstered, ths handset s called mmedately. If the called partcpant does not answer or does not want to accept the call: End the consultaton call wth Back Hold down the Talk key c... all partcpants hear a sgnal tone Endng lstenng n Press the End call key a... all partcpants hear a sgnal tone Operaton wth router When operatng behnd the analogue connecton of a router, potentally occurrng echoes can be reduced by actvatng XES mode 1. Menu q Settngs OK q System OK q XES Mode OK (³ = actvated) The functon Lstenng n s actvated: Menu q Settngs OK q Telephony OK q Lstenng n OK (³ = actvated) If there are no problems wth echoes, the XES mode should be deactvated (default settng). 1. Error tone wth keypad entres. Acton has faled/nvald nput: Repeat the procedure... Read the dsplay and refer to the user gude f necessary. The messages on the network malbox cannot be lstened. The PABX s set to pulse dallng: Set the PABX to tone dallng ( page 21). Care Wpe the devce wth a damp cloth or an antstatc cloth. Do not use solvents or mcrofbre cloths. Never use a dry cloth; ths can cause statc. In rare cases, contact wth chemcal substances can cause changes to the devce s exteror.
