Preparaton To nstall your PRIMERGY server and operatng system, you need to boot the server from the ServerStart-CD. In some crcumstances you wll need to adjust several settngs to do ths: For CD-ROM drves on a IDE bus: Ensure that the correspondng IDE channel s actvated n the BIOS of the system board and that the CD-ROM drve s the frst boot devce n the boot sequence (see ndex entry boot sequence n the BIOS-Setup manual). 14 A26361-K831-Z

Installng the software Preparng for use Selectng the desred nstallaton mode To set up a sngle server: It s recommended to confgure ServerStart n Guded Mode on the target system. Compared to the Expert Mode, ths offers ncreased securty by recognton and confguraton of the hardware. Contnue wth the "Installaton n Guded Mode" chapter. If you decde to nstall n Expert Mode, you wll need to know the hard dsk capacty and how to remove cards and confgure hard dsks. To set up several servers wth dentcal hardware confguratons: In ths case, create a target confguraton fle on a floppy dsk ether n the Preparaton Mode or usng the example n the Guded Mode. Contnue wth "Replcated nstallaton of several servers (Wndows)" chapter. Only one boot system can be selected n the Preparaton Mode and n the Guded Mode, and only one RAID array can be set as a boot devce. If the capacty of the boot drve cannot be determned, select the "Automatc" opton for an optmal parttonng. Guded nstallaton of a sngle server Installaton n Guded Mode In Guded Mode, nstallaton assstants confgure your server hardware and dsk arrays and then nstall the operatng system and ntegrated applcatons. For the new nstallaton, standard settngs are loaded from a Default Confguraton Fle. Ths confguraton fle can be found on the ServerStart- CD and may be edted by the admnstrator. Proceed as follows: Swtch the server on and nsert the ServerStart CD nto the drve. Swtch the server off and on agan. ServerStart wll now be started from the CD-ROM on the target system. After the boot process the ServerStart user nterface appears. Select the nstallaton mode and follow the nstallaton process n the User Frame. A hardware analyss of the target system s performed. Confguraton data s gathered for the nstallaton. After the confguraton defnton has been completed, the nstallaton phase s ntated wthout any addtonal restart. Data carrers wth the operatng system, Servce packs, and addtonal applcatons are then requred to start the nstallaton. The rest of the nstallaton process ncludng all necessary restarts executes wthout any nput from the user. Excepton: Necessary specfcatons that were not made n the confguraton phase wll be requested durng the nstallaton. A26361-K831-Z

Preparng for use Installng the software Durng the nstallaton of Wndows NT/2000 and NetWare 5, ServerStart also automatcally ntegrates drvers for system components that are not contaned n the operatng system. Durng the nstallaton of other operatng systems, ServerStart notfes the user of the mssng drvers. If necessary the user can now make a drver nstallaton floppy dsk. Alternatve nstallaton n Expert Mode In contrast to the Dsk and RAID Wzards n the Guded Mode, the Expert Mode lets you drectly confgure the hardware usng the tools specfcally from the manufacturer: Wndows NT Dsk Admnstrator, Global Flash ServcePartton Manager, DuplexData Partton Manager Mylex GAM (Global Access Manager), Storage Manager In connecton wth the confguraton n the Expert Mode, the operatng system nstallaton can be performed analogously to the Guded Mode. To update BIOS, frmware, and drvers wth the Global Flash Tool, you wll need a servce partton. You can set ths up convenently usng the Dsk Wzard from ServerStart. 16 A26361-K831-Z

Installng the software Preparng for use Replcated nstallaton of several servers (Wndows) Step 1: Makng a boot drve n the Preparaton Mode In ths operatng mode wth the help of the nstallaton assstants, you can create adapted confguraton fles for the unattended nstallaton of your PRIMERGY server. You can also set up nstallaton floppy dsks wth all the detected confguraton defntons after the confguraton of the target system n Guded Mode and n Expert Mode. Proceed as follows: The Preparaton Mode starts f ServerStart was nstalled as an applcaton on an arbtrary Wndows server Because ths computer s not necessarly the target system, no automatc hardware analyss can take place. You wll need to manually fll n the necessary nformaton (LAN topology, computer name, IP address). Fll n the requred nformaton n the correspondng menus.! CAUTION! It s mportant to correctly specfy the boot drve: Whch SCSI devce s the boot drve for the SCSI controller (SCSI-ID)? How many drves are avalable for a RAID array and whch RAID level (0/1/5) should be used? Other devces such as graphcs cards or network hardware are automatcally detected and nstalled on the target system. After the confguraton has been completed, save the gathered nformaton n an arbtrary fle wth the *.n extenson ether on the hard dsk or on a floppy dsk. Ths fle can be reopened at a tme and modfed from wthn confguraton user nterface. In ths way you can store several confguraton records for varous target systems. In order to nstall a correspondng target system based on the gathered confguraton data, you need to create va ServerStart a boot floppy dsk and copy the confguraton fle to ths floppy dsk under the flename SerStartBatch.n. A26361-K831-Z

Preparng for use Connectng external devces Step 2: Confguraton of the target system n Replcaton Mode Proceed as follows: In the BIOS for the system board and SCSI adapter, defne the boot sequence such that the CD-ROM drve precedes the floppy dsk drve (see the BIOS-Setup manual). Wth the confguraton floppy dsk n the drve, boot the target system from the ServerStart CD. ServerStart starts n Replcaton Mode and the nstallaton runs automatcally based on the confguraton fle. Devce drvers needed to operate the detected hardware components wll be reported and pre nstalled on the selected operatng system.! CAUTION! To successfully nstall n Replcaton Mode, the confguraton data must agree wth the hardware confguraton on the target system. Interventon n the nstallaton process s only necessary to change carrers (operatng system, servce packs, applcatons) and n the event of an ncorrect or ncomplete hardware recognton. Installaton s completed. Connectng external devces! CAUTION! Read the documentaton on the external devce before connectng t. The power plug must be removed before connectng external devces, apart from devces wth USB nterfaces. Do not ether connect or dsconnect cables durng storms. Always take hold of the actual plug.
