It can communcate wth any Bluetooth EXPLO- RER termnal by usng the Bluetooth nterface and the Bluetooth Cordless Telephony Profle. EXPLORER Bluetooth Handset s an ndependent second devce attached to your EXPLORER termnal. It rngs together wth all other phones connected to the EXPLORER termnal, f the Bluetooth nterface and the Phone/Fax nterface on the EXPLO- RER termnal are usng the same voce qualty. For further nformaton, refer to the user manual for your EXPLORER termnal. All basc telephone features can be used wth EXPLORER Bluetooth Handset. It s possble to make a telephone call outdoors at a remove of up to 100 metres from the EXPLORER termnal. Insde a buldng, t s possble to make a telephone call from the adjonng two or three rooms, dependng on the layout of the buldng. 5 Famlarze yourself wth the EXPLORER Bluetooth Handset Important notes Important notes Where you may use EXPLORER Bluetooth Handset The EXPLORER Bluetooth Handset s sutable for use n the offce, outdoors or n a dusty envronment. It comples wth the IP 54 protecton class and s splashproof and dustproof. Do not leave the telephone n drect sunlght. Dong so could cause damage to the telephone, thus makng t noperable. Operatng the battery Your EXPLORER Bluetooth Handset comes ftted wth a L-on battery. Charge the battery completely the frst tme you use t. Insert the EXPLORER Bluetooth Handset nto the charger repeatedly durng the frst week of use. The new battery attans ts full capacty after t has been charged, used and charged agan a few tmes. Thrane & Thrane s not lable for damage whch occurs due to napproprate handlng of the battery. Repars The devce may only be opened or repared by qualfed techncans. Do not open the telephone yourself. Dong so could cause damage to the telephone, thus makng t noperable. Effcent use of the handset Your EXPLORER Bluetooth Handset comes ftted wth an antenna. The antenna projects nto the casng projecton on the upper rear sde of the devce. Do not cover up the antenna unnecessarly. Partcularly when makng a call. Ths reduces the sgnal range, the connecton qualty and the talk tme, as your devce must then operate at a hgher transmsson power. It s recommended to swtch your EXPLORER Bluetooth Handset off f you ntend to have t away from the charger for a long perod of tme. When swtched off, EXPLORER Bluetooth Handset remans on standby for up to 10 days before the battery s fnally flat. Mantenance Please clean your telephone wth a soft, lnt-free cloth. If requred the cloth can be mostened wth a mld household or plastc cleanser or dsnfectant. Do not clean wth scrubbng cleansers or solvents. 5

Never dspose these tems together wth unsorted muncpal waste (household waste). In order to protect the envronment and ensure the correct recyclng of old equpment as well as the re-utlzaton of ndvdual components, use ether publc collecton or prvate collecton by the local dstrbutor of old electrcal and electronc equpment marked wth ths symbol. Contact the local dstrbutor for nformaton about what type of return system to use. 6

It normally does not matter f a key s pressed quckly or held down for a longer perod. Longer pressng s only necessary for the use of some specal functons. 8

9 Commssonng Commssonng Commssonng Only a few more steps are necessary before you can make calls wth your EXPLO- RER Bluetooth Handset: 1. Connect the charger. ( S. 10) 2. Charge the battery. ( S. 11) 3. Connect the EXPLORER Bluetooth Handset to your EXPLORER termnal (parng). ( S. 13) The followng settngs must be correct n the EXPLORER termnal: The Bluetooth nterface must be enabled n your EXPLORER termnal. The show/ hde settng must be set to "Show" n your EXPLORER termnal. For nformaton on how to check these settngs, refer to the user manual for the EXPLORER termnal. 9

10 Commssonng Postonng of the charger Postonng of the charger You have two optons for chargng your EXPLORER Bluetooth Handset. You can use the charger cradle or you can connect the handset to your EXPLORER termnal. If you are usng the charger cradle, do as follows to prepare the charger: Place the charger on a sold, even surface, for example, on a table. Choose a locaton that s protected from drect sunlght and dampness. Plug the small plug of the connectng cord nto the back of the charger. Plug the plug-n power supply nto a socket. The charger s ready for operaton. When you are usng the charger cradle, you may only use the charger wth the standard 6.2 V 620 ma plug-n power supply, reference number The plug-n power supply must be accessble and close to the charger. In case of danger t has to be unplugged from the socket. You are therefore advsed to use an antskd surface for your charger, n partcular wth new furnture or furnture that has been refreshed usng varnsh preservaton agents. Varnshes or varnsh preservaton agents may contan substances that soften the feet of the devce, thus leavng unsghtly stans on the surface of your furnture. Thrane & Thrane cannot assume lablty for damage of ths knd. 10

11 Chargng the battery Commssonng Chargng the battery To charge the battery from your EXPLORER termnal, do as follows: Connect the charger cable, delvered wth your EXPLORER Bluetooth Handset, to the connector marked DC OUT on your EXPLORER termnal. Connect the other end of the charger cable to the charger socket at the top of your handset. Make sure the EXPLORER termnal s connected to Mans. To charge the battery from the charger cradle, do as follows: Smply place the EXPLORER Bluetooth Handset nto the charger. It may be swtched on or off. It wll reman n the same condton durng chargng. You wll hear a confrmaton tone f EXPLORER Bluetooth Handset s swtched on. The battery symbol wth three arrows shown here s dsplayed untl the battery s completely charged. When you are chargng the EXPLORER Bluetooth Handset by the charger socket at the top, you may only use the standard charger cable, reference number , whch may only be connected to DC OUT on your EXPLORER termnal. You can leave the handset n the charger permanently, f you wsh. The battery wll be loaded untl t s full and then loaded no more - t cannot be overloaded. When the battery s beng charged, t wll become slghtly warm. Ths s perfectly normal. If the battery s completely flat (for example, f the EXPLORER Bluetooth Handset has not been charged for many weeks), you should leave the battery n the charger for at least 30 mnutes before swtchng on and usng EXPLORER Bluetooth Handset. 11

12 Commssonng Parng Parng Before you can make calls wth your EXPLORER Bluetooth Handset, a communcaton connecton (parng) between the EXPLORER Bluetooth Handset and the EXPLORER termnal must be set up. Ths procedure only needs to be carred out once. After endng a connecton, the Bluetooth connecton wll be automatcally re-establshed. Frst you should prepare your EXPLORER termnal for connecton (parng) ( S. 13), then you should connect (par) your EXPLORER Bluetooth Handset. ( S. 13) For further nformaton, refer to the user manual for your EXPLORER termnal. 12

13 Parng Commssonng Makng the EXPLORER termnal recognsable for other Bluetooth devces For nformaton on how to set up the EXPLORER termnal for Bluetooth, refer to the user manual for your EXPLORER termnal. Connectng (parng) Your EXPLORER termnal must already be n "Dscovery mode". EXPLORER Bluetooth Handset s swtched off. Press the rght softkey for a long perod. EXPLORER Bluetooth Handset starts up. The dsplay shows No devce or changes between Search devces and No devce. Press the "Search all" left softkey. The dsplay frst shows Search avalable devces. The search can last approxmately one mnute. The devce avalable or a lst of all devces avalable wll then be dsplayed. Select the devce EXPLORER f necessary. Confrm. "Devce detals" are dsplayed: Press the "Enrolment" rght softkey.... Enter the passkey for your EXPLORER termnal and confrm wth the "Enrolment" rght softkey. The message Regsterng wth EXPLORER successful appears and EXPLORER Bluetooth Handset goes nto dle state. Only those Bluetooth devces wth the CTP profle are dsplayed. If more than one devce s shown, compare the Bluetooth devce addresses of the devce detals. You wll fnd the devce address n the documents of your EXPLO- RER termnal or n the dsplay menu system of your EXPLORER termnal. If the system search was not successful, you can try agan usng the "Retry" softkey. Ensure that the EXPLORER termnal s n Dscovery mode. 13

Press the rght softkey for a long perod. You wll be automatcally connected wth the last EXPLORER termnal upon whch you were last onlne. Swtchng off the telephone The telephone s dle. Press the left softkey for a long perod. If your EXPLORER Bluetooth Handset cannot re-establsh the last connecton, the dsplay alternates between showng Search devces and No devce. Approach closer to your EXPLORER termnal. Check whether your EXPLO- RER termnal s functonng correctly. You can also swtch off your EXPLORER Bluetooth Handset by usng the menu. 14

15 The dsplay Basc rules of operaton The dsplay In the dle state, ( S. 15) the dsplay uses symbols to show mportant settngs and nformaton. You can access settngs by usng varous menus. Menus ( S. 17) are always constructed n the same manner. When you are usng EXPLORER Bluetooth Handset, the dsplay s hghlghted n blue. Ths lghtng s automatcally swtched off after ten seconds n order to mnmze power consumpton. 16 Basc rules of operaton The dsplay Battery dsplay The degree to whch the symbol s full ndcates the charge status of the battery. Fve levels are dsplayed: Chrg dsp. Remanng capacty 100 % 75 % 50 % 25 % 0 % The battery s beng charged. Feld strength dsplay The feld strength dsplay on the left hand sde of the dsplay shows the feld strength of the Bluetooth rado lnk. The number of rado waves (maxmum of fve) ndcates how good the lnk s. Even the presence of a sngle rado wave stll ndcates a suffcently good rado lnk. 16

18 Basc rules of operaton Functons n the menu Functons n the menu Many functons and settngs of your EXPLORER Bluetooth Handset can be accessed usng the dsplay contents (menu). The menu s set out n such a way that most of the menu tems lead to submenus. Selectng functons Call up the menu usng the rght softkey. Press the selector ether up or down to select the desred menu tem, e.g. Settngs. Call up the menu tem by usng the selector. Callng up hgher-ranked menu levels Use the left softkey to access hgher-ranked menu level or to ext the man menu. Submenus Submenus are operated n exactly the same way as the man menu. Usng softkeys The functons of softkeys change accordng to the stuaton. The functon s always shown n the dsplay drectly above the key, e.g., Menu or Cut off. The rght softkey s used, for example, for swtchng on, for callng up menus or when confrmng a settng. The left softkey s used, for example, to ext a menu tem or to cancel. Cancellng or extng an acton Press the Hang up key. Ths acton s cancelled wthout savng. Pressng and holdng down a key: Return to dle dsplay. 18

19 Enterng text Basc rules of operaton Enterng text The numerc keys can also be used to enter letters and symbols, e.g., for names n the phone book. The letters are prnted on the dgt keys. Your telephone swtches automatcally between entry of letters and numbers when ths s necessary. You may select specal characters by usng a Specal character dalogue ( S. 20). An overvew of all symbols that may be entered by usng numerc keys and the Specal character dalogue may be found n the Table of characters ( S. 48). You may change all text, symbols and call numbers entered. Text, symbols and call numbers entered Text and call numbers may be changed n the same way as on a normal moble phone. Movng the cursor should be pressed brefly. The cursor moves one step to the left or to the rght. Deletng a character or dgt should be pressed brefly. The character left of the cursor s deleted. Deletng a word should be held down. All characters left of the cursor up as far as the next empty space are deleted. Enterng a character or dgt Newly entered characters are entered at the poston of the cursor. When settng the date or tme, you may delete the dgts one-by-one startng from the left, you may delete all dgts together or you may overwrte ndvdual dgts. 19

20 Basc rules of operaton Enterng text Enterng specal characters EXPLORER Bluetooth Handset s n text nput mode (e.g., when enterng a name): should be pressed brefly. An overvew of all specal characters avalable s dsplayed Usng the left and rght softkeys and the selector (up or down), select the character desred. Confrm your selecton. The character s added next to the last character entered. Cancellng the entry of a specal character Press the back key. You can use the hash key to swtch between upper and lower case, as usual. Example: Enter the name "John": Press the JKL button once. J appears n the dsplay. Press the MNO button three tmes. Jo appears n the dsplay. Press the GHI button twce. Joh appears n the dsplay. Press the MNO button twce. John appears n the dsplay. 20

21 Enterng text Swtch to upper case letters Enter text. Basc rules of operaton Press the Hash key. The next character entered wll be upper case. To fnsh entry Press the selector. The characters are accepted. Cancellng an entry Press the back key. The entry s stopped. The frst letter of a name (user name, phone book entry) s always upper case. Before enterng a second letter wth the same key, you must wat a moment untl the cursor moves forward. 21

22 Basc rules of operaton Lockng the keypad Lockng the keypad You can set your EXPLORER Bluetooth Handset to gnore key presses. You wll thus prevent calls beng made or settngs from beng changed by nadvertent key presses.... by usng the menu Call up the menu usng the rght softkey. Select the Key lock menu tem and confrm.... by key press and pressng and holdng down at the same tme. You wll brefly be shown a message statng that the key lock can be swtched off by pressng the star and hash keys smultaneously. Unlockng the keypad and pressng and holdng down at the same tme. When the keypad s locked, the correspondng symbol appears n the dle dsplay. 22

23 Charge level of the battery Basc rules of operaton Charge level of the battery Your EXPLORER Bluetooth Handset alerts you wth sgnal tones to let you know that the battery s almost flat: Sngle sgnal tone: The remanng capacty n the battery wll soon be used up. Please charge the battery mmedately. Double sgnal tone: There s no capacty left n the battery and EXPLORER Bluetooth Handset wll swtch off presently. No battery warnng tones are heard durng a call. 23

24 Telephonng Makng calls Telephonng You can make calls usng your EXPLORER Bluetooth Handset n the same way as wth a normal moble phone. Makng calls You may use your EXPLORER Bluetooth Handset to telephone n the usual manner. To make an external call, dal: 00 <country code> <phone number> followed by off-hook key. To make a local call to a phone connected to the same EXPLORER termnal, smply dal the local number. that the local numbers always start wth zero. Dal the call number you wsh to call, e.g Pck up the handset. Cancellng a call Press. End call Hang up. You can easly redal call numbers whch you have recently called usng the Redal lst ( S. 36). 24

25 Answerng calls Telephonng Answerng calls When you are beng called, ths s sgnalled as per the settngs n the Call sgnallng ( S. 37) menu. Acceptng a call Your EXPLORER Bluetooth Handset rngs. The call number and, f the call number s stored n the phone book, then also the name of the caller are dsplayed. Pck up the handset. Deactvatng the call tone Your EXPLORER Bluetooth Handset rngs. Rnger off. The call s stll watng. 25

26 Telephonng Establshng several connectons Establshng several connectons For nformaton on how the EXPLORER termnal supports the "R"-button, refer to the secton on dallng functons n the user manual for your EXPLORER termnal. EXPLORER Bluetooth Handset supports DTMF tones. 26

27 Makng calls n Intercom mode Telephonng Makng calls n mode In Intercom mode, a drect connecton can be made to a second Bluetooth devce whch s also n Intercom mode. The EXPLORER termnal s not necessary for ths. In Intercom mode, only smple calls can be made (Basc call connecton). No Comfort features can be used. Swtch on Intercom mode Call up the menu usng the rght softkey. Select the Settngs menu tem and confrm. Select the System and confrm. Select the Intercom mode menu tem and confrm. EXPLORER Bluetooth Handset swtches to Intercom mode. EXPLORER Bluetooth Handset can now be recognsed by other handsets. The dsplay shows INTER- COM MODE. If EXPLORER Bluetooth Handset has no connecton to the EXPLORER termnal, you can select the "System" menu tem from the man menu. No menu s avalable n Intercom mode. You can ext Intercom mode by usng the "End" rght softkey. Telephonng In Intercom mode, you can only make a call wth a Bluetooth devce whch s tself also n Intercom mode. Searchng for accessble Bluetooth devces Press the "Search" left softkey. A lst s dsplayed of all Bluetooth devces found whch are n Intercom mode. The names of the devces for EXPLORER Bluetooth Handset consst of the last dgts of ther Bluetooth addresses. Connectng You can now choose the devce you wsh to use to make calls. Call the devce by usng the "Dallng" rght softkey. When the countercell pcks up, Connected s dsplayed. 27

28 Telephonng Makng calls n Intercom mode Endng a call Press the "Cut off" left softkey. The call s ended. A search for other Bluetooth devces s automatcally ended after 15 seconds. A call attempt s also ended after 15 seconds. These procedures can not be nterrupted earler. 28

29 Phone book Makng calls wth ease Makng EXPLORER calls wth ease Bluetooth Handset also has ts own lsts of call numbers and names. The lsts nform you and allow easy selecton. The call lst ( S. 34) and the redal lst ( S. 36) are created automatcally. You can set up the phone book ( S. 29) yourself. Phone book You may store up to 50 numbers wth names n your phone book. Ths phone book s only avalable on your EXPLORER Bluetooth Handset. Searchng for and callng the entry Call up the menu usng the rght softkey. Select the Phone book menu tem and confrm. Press the rght softkey.... Enter one or more of the frst letters of the name. Search (Rght softkey). The phone book shows the frst entry whch begns wth ths (or these) letters. If there s no correspondng entry, the next entry alphabetcally s shown. Callng up an entry. You can also scroll to the desred entry usng the arrow keys. The entres are stored n the telephone book as follows: Specal characters, dgts, letters (the dfference between upper and lower case s not taken account of; accents are gnored). You can also call up a hghlghted entry by frst confrmng wth "OK" and then selectng the Call menu tem and confrmng. The phone book menu can also be called up from the dle dsplay by usng the left softkey. Accessng the phone book quckly: Press and hold down the dgt key wth the frst letter of the name you are lookng for. The frst entry whch matched the frst letter on the key s shown. 29

30 Makng calls wth ease Phone book Creatng a new entry Call up the menu usng the rght softkey. Select the Phone book menu tem and confrm. Select the --General nformaton-- menu tem and confrm. Select the New entry menu tem and confrm.... Enter name. Confrm.... Dal the call number. Confrm. Savng a new entry n the phone book. The name may contan a maxmum of 32 letters and the call number up to 24 dgts. An empty phone book has only the New entry menu tem. 30

31 Phone book Edtng entres Makng calls wth ease Call up the menu usng the rght softkey. Select the Phone book menu tem and confrm. Select the entry that you want to change, e.g., Mozart, and confrm. Select the Change menu tem and confrm. Select the entry that you want to change, e.g., Mozart and confrm.... Modfy the name or call number. Confrm. If necessary, change the name or the call number n the same way. Save the changes usng the rght softkey. 31

32 Makng calls wth ease Phone book Deletng an entry Call up the menu usng the rght softkey. Select the Phone book menu tem and confrm. Select the entry that you want to delete, e.g., Mozart, and confrm. Select the Delete menu tem. Deletng an entry. Delete all entres Call up the menu usng the rght softkey. Select the Phone book menu tem and confrm. Select the --General nformaton-- menu tem and confrm. Select the Delete all menu tem and confrm. You are asked to confrm by usng the rght softkey whether you really wsh to delete all entres. All entres n the phone book are deleted. 32

33 Phone book Makng calls wth ease Capacty You can see how many memory places are stll free n the phone book. Call up the menu usng the rght softkey. Select the Phone book menu tem and confrm. Select the --General nformaton-- menu tem and confrm. Select the Capacty menu tem and confrm. The free and occuped capacty s dsplayed. The telephone book has a capacty of

34 Makng calls wth ease Call lst Call lst If you do not answer a call, the call s stored n the call lst along wth ts date and tme. No new entres can be made to the call lst when you are makng a call. EXPLORER Bluetooth Handset must be swtched on and have rado contact to the EXPLORER termnal n order to make an entry to the call lst. When there are entres n the call lst, the correspondng symbol appears n the dle dsplay. The call lst shows the 32 most recent entres. Vewng entres Call up the menu usng the rght softkey. Select the Call lst menu tem and confrm. Select an entry, e.g., Saler, and confrm. Select the Detals menu tem and confrm. How often ths caller has called and when he/she last called s dsplayed. If there are new entres n the call lst, you can call up the call lst drectly from the dle dsplay by usng the left softkey. The lst entres are sorted by date and the most recent entry s shown frst. Selectng an entry You have the call lst open. Select an entry, e.g. Saler. Callng up an entry. After a successful recall, an entry s automatcally deleted from the call lst. 34
