Preface Contents of the Installaton Instructons Target Group Ths document provdes nformaton regardng the purpose and range of applcatons, as well as the most sgnfcant features and system requrements of METRAwn 90 calbraton software. It descrbes the necessary procedures for software nstallaton and ntal start-up of the calbraton system. Note: Informaton regardng use of the software can be accessed by means of the ntegrated onlne help functon. Onlne help can be dsplayed va the help menu, and prnted out f necessary. Detaled nformaton regardng devce-specfc functons and ther use s ncluded n the operatng nstructons for the respectve devces. 4 Product Descrpton Program Varants and ther Applcaton 1 Product Descrpton 1.1 Program Varants and ther Applcaton METRAwn 90 calbraton software s a multlngual Wndows program for controllng varous calbrators for electrcal quanttes wth the help of a PC, and for documentng calbraton results. The program s avalable n the followng varants: METRAwn 90-2 METRAwn 90-F Calbraton Software for the GOSSEN METRAWATT Process Calbrators METRACAL MC, METRAHIT CAL, METRAHIT 28C, METRAHIT 28C lght and METRAHt 18C. These calbrators are used prmarly for testng and calbratng electrcal measurng nstruments and equpment n the feld of process measurng and control technology. They nclude the followng functons: DC voltage smulator, DC current source and snk, as well as smulaton of resstors and temperature sensors (thermocouples and RTDs). METRACAL MC and METRAHIT 28C are also equpped wth a TRMS multmeter (V, ma,, F, Hz, C/ F). Thanks to ncluson of these multmeter functons, or by ncorporatng a separate precson multmeter wth nfrared nterface (METRAHt 18S, 28S, 29S, 30M or METRAHIT X-TRA, EXTRA, ENERGY) nto the calbraton system, automated calbraton of solaton amplfers, temperature transmtters and the lke can be performed. The software executes nteractve (DIRECT mode) or sequence-controlled (TEST mode) setup of the calbrator from the PC va an RS232 nterface (usng nterface adapters BD232 or SI232-II) or va an USB nterface (usng nterface adapters USB- HIT or USB-XTRA), automatc analyss of measured values entered manually or read n from the multmeter va the nterface, and documentaton and archvng of calbraton results n a calbraton report. Calbraton procedures for each respectve calbraton object can smply be generated and tested wth the program. Wth METRAHt 18C and 28C procedures can also be transferred to the calbrator s memory, from whch they can be executed autonomously (wthout PC). Measured values (V, ma) acqured by the METRAHIT 28C can be saved to memory automatcally and subsequently be read out and analyzed at a PC, and nserted nto a calbraton report. Calbraton Software for FLUKE D9100, 5100B, 5500A, 5520A and 5700A Multfuncton Calbrators The above mentoned calbrators are used prmarly for the calbraton of ndcatng measurng nstruments such as multmeters, chart recorders, clp-on ammeters, panelmount measurng nstruments etc., and nclude the varous electrcal quanttes requred to ths end. By ncorporatng a separate precson multmeter wth nfrared nterface (METRAHt 18S, 28S, 29S, 30M or METRAHIT X-TRA, EXTRA, ENERGY) nto the calbraton system, automated calbraton of solaton amplfers, measurng transducers, transmtters and the lke can be performed. A calbraton procedure for the respectve calbraton object can easly be generated and tested. 7 Installng, Regsterng and Unnstallng the Program Installaton 2 Installng, Regsterng and Unnstallng the Program 2.1 Installaton A SETUP.EXE fle s ncluded on the CD-ROM. The program s nstalled wth the help of several dalog boxes when ths fle s executed. The program drectory and the name of the start menu group can be freely selected as desred. 2.2 Regstraton Note METRAwn 90 software s avalable n several varants for dfferent calbrators. The dfferent software varants can be nstalled to the same drectory, as long as only the last dgt of the respectve verson numbers vares from each other (e.g and 4.01). However, the verson wth the hghest number must be nstalled last. The verson number s specfed on the program CDROM. It s also dsplayed when program nstallaton s ntalzed or when the nstalled program s started and can be dsplayed va menu Help : About as well. For testng purposes, the software can be used for 30 days wthout a lcense key. To use the software fully after ths tral perod, a lcense has to be purchased and the software must be regstered at the Lcensor and permanently actvated by enterng the submtted lcense key. The password depends on the entered company name and the calbrator model. Thus the regstraton has to be performed for each devce type. Menu Setup : Regster Opens the dalog box for enterng the regstraton data: Enter your address n the approprate felds. Pay partcular attenton to the correct spellng of the Company name as the regstraton code generated s derved therefrom. Enter the CD Seral number ndcated on the suppled program CD. If you have receved the software as a download or by e-mal and do not have a CD seral number, you must attach a proof of purchase (nvoce or recept as a PDF or mage fle). 8 Installng, Regsterng and Unnstallng the Program Unnstall The lcense key request can be made by fax or e-mal. Clck on the button [Create fax] or [Create e-mal]. Select n the appearng dalog wndow the devce type(s) for whch the software s to be regstered, and press [OK]. The choce depends on the purchased software varant. Send the fax form that opens or e-mal to the specfed address In answer by return you get the lcense code (password) wth whch the program for the specfed devce type(s) can be permanently unlocked. To do ths, open the Regster dalog box agan, enter the lcense code sent n the Password nput box, and then clck the button [Regster]. The program s now permanently enabled. Ths can be checked n the feld Regstraton nfo. In the ttle bar of the program wndow your company name wll be dsplayed after a reboot. Note 1 One lcense of ths software allows regstraton for only one company but an unlmted number of nstallatons (Company Ste Lcense). Note 2 Preserve a copy of the returned regstraton emal / fax ncludng the password for the occason of a re-nstallaton becomng necessary! 2.3 Unnstall If you want to unnstall the program agan, you have the opportunty to do so under Start : Program Fles : Gossen-Metrawatt : METRAwn 90 : Unnstall. Each Calbrator and Multmeter s connected va adapter USB X-TRA wth a USB port of the PC. Before you connect the adapter to the PC, the drver "GMC Drver Control" must be nstalled (avalable on CD or download from webste ) Note Note that the drver nstallaton may need admnstrator rghts! By drver nstallaton an ndvdual vrtual COM port s assgned to each adapter. In the Devce Manager of Wndows, you can verfy the success of the nstallaton and dentfy the assgned COM port number: Start : Settngs : Control Panel: System : Hardware : Devce Manager Plug the Adapter to the Calbrator/Multmeter Insert the studs on the adapter nto the slots at the top of the calbrator/ multmeter so that the cable ponts to the rght as seen from the front of the devce, and the socket for the power pack s not obstructed. Communcaton va the nterface s only possble wth the adapter n ths poston. The adapter can also be connected when the multmeter s n ts protectve rubber cover. GOSSEN METRAWATT 9 Verson 8/05.13

10 Calbraton System Setup and Start-Up Connectng the Adapter to the PC Insert the adapter s USB plug nto a free USB port at the PC. Snce the devce drver for the adapter has already been nstalled, ths wll be loaded by the Wndows operatng system and a vrtual COM port s assgned to the adapter. Start the program METRAwn 90: Start : Program Fles : Gossen-Metrawatt : METRAwn 90 : Kalb and n the menu Setup : Devce Type select METRAHt Cal/Multcal. Select Setup : Port Setup to open the correspondng dalog box: For the Calbrator (and the Multmeter f gven) select the port(s) on whch the system s connected to the PC. Specfy the multmeter model and adapter beng connected by checkng the correspondng box(es). Notes When you place the mouse ponter on the check boxes, "tooltps" wth detal nformaton wll be dsplayed. Confrm the selected settngs wth [OK]. After markng the check boxes, settng nstructons for the correspondng devce appear n the Info feld of the dalog box. The program now checks the communcaton based on these settngs. If ths test faled, the dalog wndow opens agan, so that you can verfy the confguraton and correct the settngs. 11 Calbraton System Setup and Start-Up 3.2 Calbraton System wth METRAwn 90-2 and Process Calbrator METRAHIT 28C / 28C lght The fgures below show the possble structure varants of a calbraton system usng the Process Calbrator METRAHIT 28C lght or Process Calbrator & Multmeter METRAHIT 28C and the combned adapter and meter types. or Mount the devces as shown n the llustraton and secure the mechancal connectons (adapter, cable) usng the fxng screws. Connect the calbrator METRAHIT 28C/METRAHIT 28C lght va an nterface adapter BD232 and a RS232 cable to a free COM port of the PC. The devce address beng set on the calbrator must not be 00, but s otherwse rrelevant. An addtonal METRAHt multmeter of the specfed type can be optonally ntegrated nto the calbraton system wth an addtonal BD232 or SI232-II adapter. If Addr 1 s assgned to ths multmeter as well as the SI232-II adapter, t s used for acqurng measured values at the devce under test nstead of at the multmeter ntegrated nto the METRAHIT 28C. If Addr 2 s assgned to ths multmeter as well as the SI232-II adapter, t s used as an addtonal reference multmeter by the program s TEST functon for the measurement of calbraton sgnals, whch are not generated by the calbrator. Alternatvely, the calbrator and/or multmeter can be connected to a USB port at the PC va a USB-Ht adapter. Before you connect the adapter to the PC, the drver "GMC Drver Control" must be nstalled (avalable on CD or download from webste ). Note Note that the drver nstallaton may need admnstrator rghts! By drver nstallaton an ndvdual vrtual COM port s assgned to each adapter. In the Devce Manager of Wndows, you can verfy the success of the nstallaton and dentfy the assgned COM port number: Start : Settngs : Control Panel: System : Hardware : Devce Manager Ths also appears n the port selector felds of the Port Setup dalog box. Enter the followng settngs to the devces (refer to the operatng nstructons for the respectve devces for detals concernng devce operaton): Calbrator 28C/28C lght Devce address 00. The devces are swtched on automatcally by the program va ther nfrared nterfaces. After the devce has receved a settng command, the dsplay shows "REM" (REMOTE operaton). 12 Calbraton System Setup and Start-Up Multmeter 2XS Memory Adapter Swtch the devce on as usual wth the ON key or by pressng FUNC & ON smultaneously, f automatc shut-off (battery savng functon) shall be dsabled => The symbol appears n the dsplay. Enter the followng parameter confguratons to the SEt menu: > for use as calbraton multmeter: addr 01 > bd 232 > modem no > for use as reference multmeter: addr 02 > bd 232 > modem no Return to measurng mode by pressng the Esc key. The multmeter wll also be swtched on automatcally by the program va the nfrared nterfaces. Swtch the adapter on wth the ON key. The memory adapter wll also be swtched on automatcally as soon as t s addressed at ts RS232 nterface by the program. Enter the followng parameter confguratons to the SEt menu: SI232-II: > bd-n 9600 > bd-ou 9600 > addr 1 > (2 at optonal reference multmeter) > modem no Do not actvate the Send mode! The adapter wll be set to PC mode by the program; the dsplay shows PC- 1 or PC- 2. Start the program METRAwn 90: Start : Program Fles : Gossen-Metrawatt : METRAwn 90 : Kalb and n the menu Setup : Devce Type select METRAHt 28C. Select Setup : Port Setup to open the correspondng dalog box: For the Calbrator (and the Multmeter f gven) select the port(s) on whch the respectve devce s connected to the PC. Specfy the multmeter model and adapter beng connected by checkng the correspondng box(es). Notes Confrm the selected settngs wth [OK]. 13 Calbraton System Setup and Start-Up 3.3 Calbraton System wth METRAwn 90-2 and Process Calbrator METRAHt 18C The fgure below shows the structure of a calbraton system usng the Process Calbrator METRAHt 18C and the combned adapter and multmeter types. If only one meter s used n the system, ths can also be coupled wth a BD232. But then the connecton of the system on the PC must be made at a real COM port as USB-to-Seral converters do not support the baud rate of 8192 baud beng used n ths case. Mount the devces as shown n the llustraton and secure the mechancal connectons (adapter, cable) usng the fxng screws. The connecton of a second multmeter wth Memory Adapter as a reference multmeter for the measurement of calbraton sgnals, whch are not generated by the calbrator (n the TEST program functon) s optonal. Note If the PC does not have a real COM port, the system can also be connected to a USB port usng a USB-to-Seral converter. However, not all converters avalable on the market have the necessary control sgnal pns and current capacty to supply the Interface/Memory Adapter. We therefore recommend to use our RS232-USB Converter Z501L. For these converters a drver has to be nstalled. By drver nstallaton an ndvdual vrtual COM port s assgned to each adapter. In the Devce Manager of Wndows, you can verfy the success of the nstallaton and dentfy the assgned COM port number: Start : Settngs : Control Panel: System : Hardware : Devce Manager. 14 Calbraton System Setup and Start-Up Enter the followng settngs to the devces (refer to the operatng nstructons for the respectve devces for detals concernng devce operaton): Calbrator 18C Multmeter 18S Multmeter 2XS Memory Adapter Smultaneously press the and ON keys when swtchng the devce on. REMOTE appears at the dsplay (remote control). Smultaneously press the DATA and ON keys when swtchng the devce on. The symbol blnks at the dsplay (transmsson mode on). Swtch the devce on as usual wth the ON key. Start the program METRAwn 90: Start : Program Fles : Gossen-Metrawatt : METRAwn 90 : Kalb and n the menu Setup : Devce Type select METRAHt 18C. Select Setup : Port Setup to open the correspondng dalog box: on For Calbrator and the Multmeter select the port on whch the respectve devce s connected to the PC. Specfy the multmeter model and adapter beng connected by checkng the correspondng box(es). Notes Confrm the selected settngs wth [OK]. 15 Calbraton System Setup and Start-Up 3.4 Calbraton/Adjustment System wth METRAwn 90-F/-FJ and Multfuncton Calbrator FLUKE D9100, 5100B, 5500A, 5520A, 5700A The fgure below shows the basc structure of an automated calbraton and adjustment system usng a Multfuncton Calbrator FLUKE 5500A/5520A for sgnal source and a METRAHIT 10 seres or 20 seres multmeter as object to be calbrated/adjusted: Connect your multfuncton calbrator to the PC va the IEEE 488 nterface and swtch both devces on. The IEEE 488 nterface and ts respectve drver must already be properly nstalled and functonal. If the system wll be used for automatc calbraton/adjustment of METRAHIT multmeters, the multmeter must be connected to a free COM port at the PC va a BD232 or SI232-II adapter. For METRAHIT 20 seres multmeters also a USB-HIT adapter can be used for connecton to a vacant USB port at the PC. For ths adapter the drver GMC Drver Control must be nstalled before connectng t to the PC (avalable on the CD or webste ). Note Note that the drver nstallaton may need admnstrator rghts! By drver nstallaton an ndvdual vrtual COM port s assgned to each adapter. 16 Calbraton System Setup and Start-Up Enter the followng settngs to the devces (refer to the operatng nstructons for the respectve devces for detals concernng devce operaton): Multmeter 1XS Multmeter 2XS Memory Adapter Smultaneously press the DATA and ON keys when swtchng the devce on. The symbol blnks at the dsplay (transmsson mode on). Swtch the devce on as usual wth the ON key or by pressng FUNC & ON smultaneously, f automatc shut-off (battery savng functon) shall be dsabled The symbol appears n the dsplay. Enter the followng parameter confguratons to the SEt menu: addr 01 > bd 232 > modem no Return to measurng mode by pressng the Esc key. The multmeter wll also be swtched on automatcally by the program va the nfrared nterfaces. Swtch the devce on as usual wth the ON key. Enter the followng parameter confguratons to the SEt menu: SI232: > baud 9600 > addr 01 > (at optonal reference multmeter: 02) SI232-II: > bd-n 8192 > bd-ou 9600 > addr 1 > modem no Actvate transmsson mode operaton va the menu on1ne on- 1 appears at the dsplay and DATA blnks. Start the program METRAwn 90: Start : Program Fles : Gossen-Metrawatt : METRAwn 90 : Kalb and n the menu Setup : Devce Type select FLUKE XXXXA. Select Setup : Port Setup to open the correspondng dalog box: For the Calbrator select the IEC-Bus Interface GPIB0 or GPIB1 on whch t s connected to the PC. Select the real or vrtual COM port to whch the multmeter s connected and specfy the multmeter model and adapter beng used by checkng the correspondng box(es). Confrm the selected settngs wth [OK]. Notes When you place the mouse ponter on the check boxes, "tooltps" wth detal nformaton wll be dsplayed. After markng the check boxes, settng nstructons for the correspondng devce appear n the Info feld of the dalog box. The program now checks the communcaton based on these settngs. If ths test faled, the dalog wndow opens agan, so that you can verfy the confguraton and correct the settngs. If the test s successful, then the calbraton system s now ready for operaton.
