In order to take nto account the changes n water-flow characterstcs across the hull, for dfferent speeds, t s advsable carry out speed calbraton at as many speeds as possble, up to the maxmum of fve, provded by ST70. Ths s partcularly mportant for planng vessels. The correct calbraton at each speed s acheved by applyng a calbraton factor to the ndcated speed readng. The correct value for the calbraton factor s obtaned by one of two methods: If SOG nformaton s avalable, you can use ths as a reference, to enable you to set the correct calbraton factor. If SOG nformaton s not avalable, you need to manually calculate and apply the correct calbraton factor. In order to acheve accurate results, speed calbraton must be carred out n condtons of zero tde and zero current. 35 29 Chapter 4: Mantenance & Troubleshootng 4.1 Mantenance Servcng and safety Unless specfc nstructons are gven to the contrary, Raymarne equpment should be servced only by authorzed Raymarne servce techncans. They wll ensure that servce procedures and replacement parts used wll not affect performance. Some products generate hgh voltages, so never handle the cables/connectors when power s beng suppled to the equpment. When powered up, all electrcal equpment produces electromagnetc felds. These can cause nearby electrcal equpment to nteract, wth a possble adverse effect on operaton. To mnmze these effects and enable best possble performance from your Raymarne equpment, gudelnes are gven n the nstallaton nstructons. Always report any EMC-related problem to your nearest Raymarne dealer. We use such nformaton to mprove our qualty standards. In some nstallatons, t may not be possble to prevent the equpment from beng affected by external nfluences. In general ths wll not damage the equpment but t can lead to spurous resettng acton, or momentarly may result n faulty operaton. Instrument Cleanng Perodcally clean your ST70 Instrument wth a soft damp cloth. Do NOT use chemcal or abrasve materals to clean your nstrument. Do NOT wpe the nstrument wth a dry cloth as ths could cause scratches. Cablng Perodcally examne all cables for chafng or other damage to the outer sheld, and where necessary, replace and re-secure

36 30 ST70 Instrument User Reference Manual 4.2 Troubleshootng In the unlkely event that you encounter problems usng your ST70 nstrument, use ths secton to resolve the stuaton. Frst consderatons If your ST70 s not performng as you thnk t should, be sure you are operatng correctly as descrbed n the ST70 Operatng Gude, suppled wth the nstrument. Then: Ensure that any data you thnk may be mssng, s avalable on your boat. For example, f you do not have a wnd transducer, then there wll be no wnd data or wnd-related data. Take nto account any changes that may have been made to the electrcal system aboard your boat. Such changes could affect the performance of your ST70 nstrument. Be aware that rado sgnals transmtted nearby (for example from another boat or shore staton) could affect the performance of your ST70 nstrument. If you are satsfed that the problem s not due to any of the above, use the procedures n ths secton to solate the cause of the problem. Procedures If t appears that an ST70 nstrument s not operatng satsfactorly, check the symptoms below to determne how to resolve the problem: Nothng on the nstrument screen - refer to Chart 1. Data mssng from the nstrument screen - refer to Chart 2. Data on the nstrument screen s garbled- refer to Chart 3. Specfc data types are mssng or ncorrect: Check the relevant Transducer and Pod, ncludng the connectons between them and to the system. If speed readngs are mssng or obvously wrong, the speed transducer paddle wheel could be fouled and need cleanng.
