USB le It is reommene to use USB 2.0 le (Type A/B) tht is no longer thn 2 meters (6 feet). Network le For HL-5470DW(T), use stright-through Ctegory 5 (or greter) twiste-pir le for 10BASE-T, 100BASE-TX Fst Ethernet Network. For HL-6180DW(T), use stright-through Ctegory 5e (or greter) Shiele Twiste-Pir (STP) le for 10BASE-T, 100BASE-TX Fst Ethernet Network or 1000BASE-T Gigit Ethernet Network. When you onnet the mhine to Gigit Ethernet Network, use the network evies omplying with 1000BASE-T. CEE-ENG Version 0 1

2 2 Remove the pking mteril from the mhine Tke out the rum unit n toner rtrige ssemly. DO NOT onnet the AC power or yet. Remove the pking tpe from the outsie of the mhine. Open the MP try, n remove the pking tpe from the MP try support, then lose the MP try. e Remove the ornge protetive mteril from the rum unit n toner rtrige ssemly. Press the front over relese utton n open the front over. Remove the sili gel pk. f Hol the rum unit n toner rtrige ssemly level with oth hns n gently shke it from sie to sie severl times to istriute the toner evenly insie the rtrige. CAUTION DO NOT et the sili gel pk. Plese throw wy. If ingeste, seek meil ttention immeitely. g h Put the rum unit n toner rtrige ssemly firmly k in the mhine. Close the front over of the mhine. 2

3 3 Lo pper in the pper try Pull the pper try ompletely out of the mhine. While pressing the green pper-guie relese lever, slie the pper guies to fit the pper size you re loing in the try. Mke sure tht the guies re firmly in the slots. Fn the stk of pper well to voi pper jms n misfees. Put the pper in the try n mke sure: The pper is elow the mximum pper mrk (). Over filling the pper try will use pper jms. The sie to e printe on is fe own. The pper guies touh the sies of the pper so it will fee properly. For Legl or Folio size pper, press the relese utton in the ottom of the pper try n then pull out the k of the pper try. (Legl or Folio size pper re not ville in some regions.) e f Put the pper try firmly k in the mhine. Mke sure tht it is ompletely inserte into the mhine. Lift up the support flp to prevent pper from sliing off the fe-own output try. For more informtion out reommene pper, see Reommene pper n print mei in the User's Guie. 3

4 4 Turn 5 Wireless on the mhine Connet the AC power or to the mhine n then onnet it to n AC power outlet. Turn the mhine's power swith on. setup (if neee) For wireless setup using Mintosh omputer or moile evie, go to. For Winows users (ll onnetions) n Mintosh users using the USB n wire network onnetions, go to. DO NOT onnet the interfe le yet. If you re using Mintosh omputer or moile evie on wireless network, press to hoose Yes. Then go to step 9 on pge 14 to ontinue the wireless setup. After finishing the wireless setup you will nee to return to step 6 to finish the mhine setup. 6 Print 7 Set test pge Press Go. The mhine will print test pge. Chek tht the test pge hs printe orretly. If you hve previously onfigure the wireless settings of the mhine, you must reset the network (LAN) settings efore you n onfigure the wireless settings gin. 1. On your mhine, press or to hoose Network, n press OK. 2. Press or to hoose Network Reset, n press OK. 3. When Reoot OK? ppers, press to hoose Yes for reoot. To setup your mhine in ny other wireless environment, you n fin instrutions in the Network User's Guie. Setup using the Instller CD-ROM n temporrily using USB le (Winows only) It is reommene tht you use PC wirelessly onnete to your network for this metho. You nee to temporrily use USB le uring onfigurtion (le not inlue). If you re using Winows XP, or using network le to onnet your omputer with your wireless ess point/router, you nee to know the SSID n Network Key of your wireless ess point/router efore you proee. Choose Brother Peer-to-Peer Network Printer or Network Shre Printer, n then lik Next. If you hoose Network Shre Printer, hoose your mhine s queue, n then lik OK. Choose Wireless Network Connetion n then lik Next. 18 For Wireless Network Users i The wizr will serh for wireless networks ville from your mhine. Choose the SSID tht you wrote own for your network in step 10- on pge 15, n then lik Next. Wireless setup is now omplete. A four level initor t the right of your mhine s LCD will show the wireless signl strength of your wireless ess point/router. To instll the printer river, ontinue to step 13-e on pge 25. Now go to j If the list is lnk, hek tht the wireless ess point/router hs power n is rosting the SSID, n then see if the mhine n the wireless ess point/router re within rnge for wireless ommunition. Then, lik Refresh. If your wireless ess point/router is set to not rost the SSID you n mnully it y liking the Avne utton. Follow the on-sreen instrutions for entering the Nme (SSID), n then lik Next. Enter the Network Key you wrote own in step 10- on pge 15, n then lik Next. pge 25 k l If your network is not onfigure for Authentition n Enryption, the ATTENTION! sreen will pper. To ontinue onfigurtion, lik OK. Confirm the wireless network settings n then lik Next. The settings will e sent to your mhine. The settings will remin unhnge if you lik Cnel. If you wnt to mnully enter the IP ress settings of your mhine, lik Chnge IP Aress n enter the neessry IP ress settings for your network. If the wireless setup filure sreen ppers, lik Retry. Disonnet the USB le etween the omputer n the mhine n then lik Next. 18

If you use your mhine in n IEEE 802.1x supporte wireless network, see Using IEEE 802.1x uthentition in the Network User's Guie. If you egn the wireless setup from step 5 on pge 4 (for Mintosh n moile evies), go to. All other users, go to. On your mhine, press or to hoose Network n press OK. Press or to hoose WLAN n press OK. Press or to hoose Setup Wizr n press OK. When WLAN Enle? is isplye, press to ept. This will strt the wireless setup wizr. Otherwise press Cnel to exit from the wireless setup wizr. The mhine will serh for ville SSIDs. It will tke severl seons to isply list of ville SSIDs. If list of SSIDs is isplye, use the or key to hoose the SSID you wrote own in step 10- on pge 16, then press OK. Do one of the following: If the wireless ess point/router of the selete SSID supports WPS n WPS is ville ppers, press n go to f. If you re using n uthentition n enryption metho tht requires Network Key, go to g. If your uthentition metho is Open System n your enryption moe is None, go to h. f If list of SSIDs is not isplye, mke sure your wireless ess point/router is on. Move your mhine loser to the wireless ess point/router n try strting from gin. If your wireless ess point/router is set to not rost the SSID you will hve to mnully the SSID nme. For etils, see Configuring your mhine when the SSID is not rost in the Network User's Guie. g h To onnet your mhine using the utomti wireless moe, press to hoose Yes. (If you hoose No, go to g to enter the Network Key.) When Press WPS on rtr ppers, press the WPS utton on your wireless ess point/router, n then press twie. Go to h. Enter the Network Key you wrote own in step 10- on pge 16. To enter hrter or numer, hol own or repetely press the or key until the hrter you wnt ppers, n then press OK. To elete the hrters you hve entere, press the Bk key. For more informtion, see Entering Text for Wireless Settings on pge 24. Press OK when you hve entere ll the hrters, then press for Yes to pply your settings. Your mhine will now try to onnet to your wireless network using the informtion you hve entere. A onnetion result messge ppers on the LCD n WLAN report will utomtilly e printe. If the onnetion file, hek the error oe on the printe report n refer to Trouleshooting on pge 22.
