USB le Plese mke sure you use USB 2.0 le (Type A/B) tht is no more thn 6 feet (2 meters) long (le not inlue). 2 2 Lo plin Letter/A4 pper Pull the pper try ompletely out of the mhine. With oth hns, gently press n slie the pper sie guies n then the pper length guie to fit the pper size. Mke sure tht the tringulr mrks on the pper sie guies n pper length guie line up with the mrk for the pper size you re using. 3 Lift the output pper try over. 2 e 3 Fn the stk of pper well to voi pper jms n misfees. Gently put the pper into the pper try print sie own n top ege first. Chek tht the pper is flt in the try. DO NOT push the pper in too fr. 2

3 When you use Legl size pper, press n hol the universl guie relese utton s you slie out the front of the pper try. h Slowly push the pper try ompletely into the mhine. i While holing the pper try in ple, pull out the pper support until it liks, n then unfol the pper support flp. f g Gently just the pper sie guies to the pper with oth hns. Mke sure tht the pper sie guies touh the eges of the pper. Close the output pper try over. 2 3

4 3 Connet the power or n telephone line DO NOT onnet the USB le yet (if you re using USB le). Connet the power or. If you re shring one telephone line with n externl telephone, onnet it s shown elow. Before you onnet the externl telephone, remove the protetive p from the EXT. jk on the mhine. 2 Connet the telephone line or. Connet one en of the telephone line or to the jk on the mhine mrke LINE n the other en to moulr wll jk. Extension telephone 2 Externl telephone If you re shring one telephone line with n externl telephone nswering mhine, onnet it s shown elow. Before you onnet the externl telephone nswering mhine, remove the protetive p from the EXT. jk on the mhine. The telephone line or MUST e onnete to the jk on the mhine mrke LINE. 4 Set the reeive moe to Externl TAD if you hve n externl nswering mhine. See Choose the orret Reeive Moe on pge 8. 5 4 Instll the ink rtriges e Turn the green kno on the protetive yellow p lokwise until it liks to relese the vuum sel, then remove the p. CAUTION If ink gets in your eyes, wsh them out with wter t one, n if irrittion ours onsult otor. Mke sure tht the power is turne on. The LCD shows No Ink Crtrige. Open the ink rtrige over. Remove the green protetive prt. f Tke re to mth the olor of the lever with the rtrige olor, s shown in the igrm elow. 2 Do not throw wy the green protetive prt. You will nee it if you trnsport the mhine. Unpk the ink rtrige. Mke sure you instll the Strter Ink Crtriges inlue with your mhine first. g Instll eh ink rtrige in the iretion of the rrow on the lel. 5

6 h Gently push the ink rtrige until it liks. After ll the ink rtriges re instlle lose the ink rtrige over. The mhine will prepre the ink tue system for printing. This proess will tke pproximtely four minutes. Do not turn off the mhine. DO NOT tke out ink rtriges if you o not nee to reple them. If you o so, it my reue the ink quntity n the mhine will not know the quntity of ink left in the rtrige. DO NOT shke the ink rtriges. If ink stins your skin or lothing, wsh with sop or etergent t one. DO NOT repetely insert n remove the rtriges. If you o so, ink my seep out of the rtrige. If you mix the olors y instlling n ink rtrige in the wrong position, len the print he severl times fter orreting the rtrige instlltion. (See Clening the print he in Appenix A in the Avne User s Guie on the oumenttion CD-ROM.) One you open n ink rtrige, instll it in the mhine n use it up within six months of instlltion. Use unopene ink rtriges y the expirtion te written on the rtrige pkge. DO NOT ismntle or tmper with the ink rtrige, this n use the ink to lek out of the rtrige. Brother strongly reommens tht you o not refill the ink rtriges provie with your mhine. We lso strongly reommen tht you ontinue to use only Genuine Brother Brn replement ink rtriges. Use or ttempte use of potentilly inomptile ink n/or rtriges in the Brother mhine my use mge to the mhine n/or my result in unstisftory print qulity. If there is more thn one mhine onnete to the network, hoose your mhine from the list, n then lik Next. This winow will not pper if there is only one mhine onnete on the network, it will e hosen utomtilly. Wire Network Winows Mintosh If your mhine is not foun over the network, the following sreen will pper. Confirm your settings y following the on-sreen instrutions. 2
