2 Intrductin This Whitepaper prvides design and installatin guidelines fr cabling and cnduits f fllwing systems: Internet/data cabling TV cabling including HDTV Phne cabling Security cameras cabling Electrical Fencing cabling Fiber t the hme (FTTH) cabling While building a new hme r renvating an existing, yu need t be sure that design and installatin f yur cabling fr Internet, Cable TV, security cameras and phne is dne in a prper manner s as t take care f technlgy needs f tday and cming 20 years. A mdern 350 square yards and larger hme will nrmally have fllwing requirements f cabling and their utlets: Optical fiber cable entry t hme The telecm peratr will have an entry pint f its fiber cable near uter bundary wall f the huse. A PVC duct f 1 inch dia has t be installed frm this pint t the central distributin pint within yur huse. A typical tw fiber cable has uter diameter f arund ¾ inches. PVC duct f 1 inch diameter can be used t accmmdate tw fiber cables and a few Ethernet cables.

3 Cable riser and main distributin pints at each flr Each flr shuld have a distributin cabinet. This cabinet wuld be in additin t electrical distributin cabinet. Ideally, distributin cabinets shuld be installed at same lcatin n each flr s that vertical distributin f cables can be easily made thrugh cable risers r ducts f larger diameter. Typical dimensin f data distributin cabinet wuld be 24 x 24 x 6. Wden cabinet are best suited fr this purpse. Fr data and TV cabling, ducts f 2 inch diameter can be used fr flr t flr cnnectin. There shuld be a separate place r cabinet t accmmdate huse UPS batteries. A lead acid battery f 150AH has a typical dimensin f 5 W 12 H 21 L. Tw batteries are nrmally required at each flr. The cabinet r place fr battery shuld be accrdingly designed. There has t be empty space in the cabinet after putting batteries and hles fr air circulatin as acid batteries emit fumes. Cable TV cnnectin in each bedrm, TV lunge, drawing rm and servant rm: Caxial Cabling fr analg and digital TV services Each rm f the huse including bedrms, TV lunge, drawing rm and servant rm has t be prvided with an analg and digital TV cable cnnectin. These cnnectins are prvided n cpper caxial cabling, RG-6 cable f a branded quality. Cable cnnectrs, jinters, splitters and face plates have t be f gd quality and terminated by trained technicians. Cld press cnnectrs are recmmended. There shuld nt be any sharp bend in RG-6 cabling. Fr each Cable TV scket, there has t be tw supprting electric pwer sckets (5-10 Amps) t give pwer t TV set, digital set tp bx and HD bx. Electric pwer sckets shuld be n hme UPS depending upn yur needs. These sckets shuld be installed clse t installatin place f yur TV set as per interir drawings. Caxial cabling can be dne in series, frm ne rm t anther, depending upn the distance. All caxial cabling f ne flr can be brught t a central distributin bx f that flr and then a single caxial cable can be taken t grund flr, instead f terminating all cables f all flrs t grund flr.

4 Data cabling fr HDTV services High definitin TV services require Ethernet/data cabling t each TV set. One RJ45 scket f Cat5/6 cabling has t be installed at the lcatin f each TV set as per interir drawings. This RJ45 scket will be used t cnnect HD Bx with TV set via HDMI cable. Ethernet scket shuld be adjacent t caxial Cable TV scket and an electric pwer scket. Electric pwer sckets shuld be n hme UPS depending upn yur needs. Cat5e r Cat6 cabling and faceplates can be used as per budget. There shuld nt be any sharp bends in Ethernet cabling. Ethernet cnnectin in each bedrm, TV lunge and drawing rm Each rm shuld have an Ethernet cnnectin fr data/ Internet cnnectivity. Lcatin f Ethernet/RJ45 scket culd be at a different place than RJ45 scket fr HDTV. These sckets shuld be installed clse t installatin place f yur TV set as per interir drawings. Ethernet cnnectin in main lbby, lunge r central pint f each flr: These RJ45 sckets will be used t cnnect WiFi ruters/ access pints. Fr large huses, tw t fur WiFi ruters need t be installed at each flr at central places. Each faceplate shuld have an electric pwer utlet which must be n hme UPS. Phne cnnectins in each rm, TV lunge, drawing rm, servants rm and security guard rm: This wuld be n Cat 3 single pair pure cpper phne cable f gd quality. Intercm r vide phne cnnectin n the gate: This wuld have either single pair cpper cable r Ethernet cabling as per specificatins f the intercm t be installed. On bth sides, cncealed electrical pwer will be required and it shuld be backed by hme UPS.

5 Security cameras at all fur crners f huse and bundary walls: If legacy CCTV cameras are t be installed, they wuld have caxial RG wire electrical cabling backed by hme UPS. If IP cameras are t be installed, this wuld require Ethernet cabling. N separate electrical cabling is required if IP cameras supprt PE (Pwer ver Ethernet). PE switch backed by hme r a dedicated UPS has t be installed at central distributin cabinet t pwer the IP cameras. Electrical fencing at bundary walls. If the hme has ne gate, it wuld require tw data and tw electrical pints in each side f gate. If hme has mre gates, each gate shuld have this cnfiguratin. Electrical pints shuld be n hme UPS. Optical Netwrk Terminal (ONT) This requires single r tw fiber ptical cable t be terminated at the pint. If hme has tw separate prtins, grund and first flr, then tw separate ONTs may be required fr each flr. Optical fiber cables have t be run frm ONT t utside bundary wall f yur hme in cncealed and undergrund cnduits just like yu take electric pwer cables frm meter n uter bundary wall t distributin bx. ONTs have built-in WiFi ruters. S the installatin pint shuld be a central pint n each flr fr better distributin f wireless signals. ONT will require an electrical scket. Nrmally ONTs are backed by a dedicated UPS. S this electrical scket may nt necessarily be n hme UPS. Cnduit size fr ptical fiber cable shuld be ne inch diameter. There shuld nt be any sharp bends in these cnduits.

6 Imprtant Pints Caxial, Ethernet and phne cables can be run in a single cnduit f 0.75 t 1 inch diameter. At n pints, these cnduits be merged with electrical cnduits r wires. The bxes f faceplates shuld be at least 6 x 6 inch size because caxial cable splitters will als be installed within these bxes. S the bx size shuld be bigger than faceplates. Fiber cables shuld be run in a separate cnduit. There shuld be ne wall munted distributin cabinet n each flr. Minimum dimensin f cabinet shuld be 2 ft wide, 2 ft high and 6 inches depth. Fllwing equipment wuld be installed in each cabinet: ONT UPS fr ONT PE switch UPS fr PE switch (this UPS typically requires external batteries, s the size f cabinet has t be increased). ATA/Phne switch All caxial, Ethernet and phne cabling wuld be terminated within this distributin bx. Cntrller fr electrical fencing system. All cabling shuld be prperly labelled. A netwrk diagram shuld be prepared by the cntractr. A laminated cpy f diagram shuld be left in the cabinet fr future trubleshting f the system.
