Load nterrupter swtches should not be used to nterrupt currents above ther nterruptng ratng of 00 or 00 amperes for ether phase or ground, as they are not desgned nor tested for nterruptng hgher currents on electrcal systems. The openng and closng of the swtch blades s done by the operatng sprng. An operator s actons only charge and release the operatng sprng. The swtch blades cannot be teased to any ntermedate postons. Durng the closng operaton, full clearance between blades and statonary contacts s mantaned untl the swtch mechansm goes over toggle. The swtch mechansm has only metal-to-metal lnkage no chans or cables are used. Arc nterrupton takes place between copper-tungsten tpped auxlary (flcker) blade and arcng contacts wth a DE-ION arc chute; no arcng takes place between the man blades and the statonary contacts to prolong the lfe of the man blades. Full Heght Man Door The door has a return flange and two rotary latch-type handles to provde latchng members held n shear. It closes over a projectng frame. Foot Operated Door Stop Grounded Metal Safety Barrer Prevents nadvertent contact wth any lve part, yet allows full-vew nspecton of the swtch blade poston. Door Interlock Prevents the door of the enclosure from beng opened when the swtch s closed. Swtch Interlock Prevents nadvertent closure of the swtch f the door of the enclosure s open. To close the swtch, the handle s nserted nto the sprng chargng cam, then rotated upward through an angle of 0 degrees. Ths acton charges the operatng sprng, and as the mechansm s forced past toggle, the stored energy of the sprng s released and transferred to the man shaft whch snaps the swtch closed. As a result of the over-toggle acton, the blades are moved ndependently of the operator. It s mpossble to tease the swtch nto any ntermedate poston. To open the swtch, the handle s nserted nto the sprng chargng cam and rotated downward through 0 degrees resultng n chargng of the operatng sprng, then releasng ts stored energy n smlar sequence. Quck-Break DE-ION Arc Interrupton Wth the swtch closed, both man and auxlary (flcker) blades are closed, and all of the current flows through the man blades. The flcker blades are n the closed poston n the arc chutes, but are past the arcng contacts and thus carry no current. As the man blades open, current s transferred momentarly to the flcker blades, whch are held n the arc chutes by hgh pressure contact fngers. There s no arcng at the man blades. When the man blades reach a predetermned angle of openng, a stop post on the man blades prevents further angular movement between the man and flcker blades. Ths starts the flcker blades out of the hgh pressure contacts n the arc chutes and as contacts are broken, the flcker blades are snapped nto poston by ther torson sprngs. The heat of the arc, meanwhle, releases a blast of de-onzng gas from the gas-generatng materal of the arc chute. Ths combnaton of quck-break and DE-ION acton quckly extngushes the arc and the crcut s safely de-energzed. A non-fused swtch has the ablty to close and latch four tmes when rated ka fault close, and three tmes when rated ka fault close, and contnue to carry rated current thus addng a large margn of ntegrty to the electrcal system. The swtch has also demonstrated the ablty to surpass the number of ANSI C. requred loadbreak current operatons by no less than 0%. Bus Insulaton System All bus runs are supported utlzng a hgh strength and hgh creep, fnned support provdng n excess of nches (. mm) of creep dstance between phases and ground. The molded hgh track-resstant fns are constructed as standard of Aramd nylon or optonal Cycloalphatc epoxy. Sgnfcantly superor bus bracng than standoff type A nsulators. See Secton for further nformaton on these devces. MVS swtchgear assembles can also be equpped to nterface wth the Cutler-Hammer PowerNet ntegrated montorng and control communcatons system wth Communcaton (PONI) accessores, Addressable Relays, etc. See Secton for further nformaton. Other Meters: IQ 0 IQ 00 Refer to Secton. Outdoor Enclosures Weatherproofng complyng wth the requrements of NEMA R and IEEE standard C.. s avalable for MVS swtchgear assembles. The weatherproofng conssts of sloped roof panels that are joned together wth caps. Doors and rear covers are fully gasketed. Externally accessble louvered fltered covers, top and bottom, front and rear, are provded for ventlaton. At least one 0 watt heater s provded n each vertcal secton. Power for the heaters may be suppled from an external source, or an optonal ntegral control power transformer may be specfed to provde power for the heaters. Tests were performed to substantate all publshed ratngs n accordance wth ANSI, IEEE, CSA and NEMA standards. The testng program ncluded tests of: Basc mpulse levels. Momentary wthstand. Short tme wthstand. Fault closng. Load nterruptng at varous loads, varous power factors. Mechancal lfe tests. Temperature rse test. These tests verfed not only the performance of the swtch and ntegrated swtch-fuse assembly, but also the sutablty of the enclosure ventng, rgdty and bus spacng. The mechancal lfe test subjected the MVS swtch to a number of no load cycles greater than the requrements tabulated n ANSI C. standards. There were no movng or current carryng part falures as a result. The Fault Close and Load Interruptng test demonstrated sgnfcant mproved performance above ANSI/ IEEE standards.
