BEFORE WIRING, DISCONNECT THE CABLE FROM THE NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL Before startng any nstallaton work, you must wat 90 seconds after turnng the gnton swtch to the LOCK poston and dsconnectng the negatve (-) termnal from the battery. The supplemental restrant system (arbag) s equpped wth a backup power source. If nstallaton work s started less 90 seconds after dsconnecton of the negatve (-)battery termnal, the SRS may deploy. When the negatve (-) termnal cable s dsconnected from the battery the clock and audo systems memory wll be erased. Before startng nstallaton work make a record of the clock and audo systems memory settngs. When nstallaton s complete, reset the clock and audo systems to ther prevous settngs. Power tlt, power telescopc steerng column, front power seats, power mrrors, and power shoulder belt anchorage are equpped wth a memory functon.the rear power seat s not equpped wth a memory functon. e and they can make a record of the memory contents, rear power seat s not equpped wth the memory functon. When nstallaton s complete, t s necessary to readjust the features to ther prevous settngs Never use a backup power supply (such as another battery) durng nstallaton work to avod losng these memory settngs.! CAUTION DO NOT SPLICE INTO ELECTRICAL CABLES Never cut away cable nsulaton to supply power to other equpment. Dong so wll exceed the current carryng capacty of the wre and result n fre or electrc shock. DO NOT ALLOW CABLES TO BECOME ENTANGLED IN SURROUNDING OBJECTS Cables or wrng that obstruct or get caught on places such as the steerng wheel, shft lever, brake pedals, etc. can be extremely hazardous. DO NOT INSTALL IN LOCATIONS WITH HIGH MOISTURE OR DUST Mosture or dust may result n product falure. 5 Installaton IMPORTANT We strongly recommend that you nstall the unt n an easly accessble locaton, so you can later upgrade the unt or re-program t n case of ncorrect programmng. 5 Installaton Gan access to the back of you vehcle s Head Unt. Fnd the same port as our Audo Harness (see Connectng MultMedaLnQ to head unt Dsconnect the exstng connector and plug n our Audo connector nto ths port, then plug female end of Audo Harness to the plug n for your factory connector. Audo harness female connector s not used In some vehcles. Plug the other end of Audo cable nto desgnated port on MultMedaLnQ. Setup proper Emulaton Mode for ths unt (see Emulaton Mode Selecton ) Turn the car on and check MultMedaLnQ functonalty (especally Text capablty) before the fnal assembly. Make sure your USB Storage devce has at least two Folders/playlsts, n order for ths unt to operate properly. Please mount ths unt n an easy accessble locaton for upgradng and re-programmng Secure the Head Unt n ts orgnal poston. 7 Before You Start IMPORTANT The MML Audo Player supports playback of MP3,WAV, FLAC (some lmtaton apply) fles from a USB Mass Storage Devce. What s MP3? MP3 (MPEG-1 Audo Layer 3) s a dgtal audo encodng format usng a form of lossy data compresson. MPEG Layer 3 audo codng technology lcensed from Fraunhofer IIS and Thomson. Supply of ths product only conveys a lcense for prvate, non-commercal use and does not convey a lcense nor mply any rght to use ths product n any commercal (.e. revenue-generatng) real tme broadcastng (terrestral, satellte, cable and/or any other meda), broadcastng/streamng va nternet, ntranets and/or other networks or n other electronc content dstrbuton systems, such as pay-audo or audo-on-demand applcatons. Ths unt can playback fles n USB memory and USB Portable Audo Players that support the USB Mass Storage Class (MSC) protocol.! You cannot connect a USB memory or USB Portable Audo Player to ths unt va a USB hub.! Parttoned USB memory s compatble wth ths unt.(can not be managed by Wndows XP and Wndows Vsta).! Dependng on the knd of USB memory or USB Portable Audo Player, ths unt may not recognze the USB memory or USB Audo Player and/or audo fles may not be played back properly.! USB memory devces wth securty functons can not be played (for example Flash drve wth Hardware encrypton).! USB memory or USB Audo Player may not functon correctly at hgh or low temperature.! Do not leave the USB memory or USB Audo Player n drect sunlght for extended amounts of tme. It can result n USB memory or USB Audo Player malfuncton.! USB memory or USB Audo Player may take tme to playback. Dependng on amount of fles and specfc fle locaton n the memory, t may take consderable tme before the fle s played back.! Never remove USB memory or USB Audo Player devce whle playback or fle transfers are n progress, to prevent possble damage to ts memory (see How to eject a USB devce ).! Never nsert/remove USB memory or USB Audo Player whle vehcle s n moton for safety.! USB memory or USB Portable Audo Player must be formatted as FAT16 or FAT32 (most Flash Drves come formatted n FAT32 and do not need addtonal re-formattng).! Unt can playback up to 999 playlsts and up to 999 fles n each playlst (per partton). Large amount of playlsts and fles can result n slow navgaton and playback.! For USB memory or USB Portable Audo Player MML player supports MPEG-1 Layer 1 (fle extenson.mp1), MPEG-1 Layer 2 (fle extenson.mp2) and the MPEG-2 audo extenson to Lower Samplng Frequences.! Fle extensons must be used properly (non-audo data wll not be recognzed). Playback of non-audo data may generate a nose that can cause damage of amplfer and/or speakers.! You must mantan Free Space on USB memory or USB Portable Audo Player necessary for unt operaton (approxmately 1% of partton capacty).! Touchng the connector termnals may transmt statc electrcty to the nner crcuts of unt or USB memory/usb Portable Audo Player and may lead to malfunctons. Use precautons to prevent damage to the system by electrostatc dscharge (ESD).! If Pod connected to MML player, supports USB Audo, MML player wll swtch to dedcated Pod control mode. - MML can playback up to 999 playlsts n CD-MP3 emulaton mode and up to 99 playlst n CD changer or MD changer emulaton mode. 7

IMPORTANT Important Please Read!!! (1) After a delay of fve seconds, ths product wll automatcally bypass the automoble manufacturer's on-screen warnngs concernng use of the onboard navgaton system. These warnngs are: Cauton, Drve safely and obey traffc rules. Watchng ths screen whle vehcle s n moton can lead to a serous accdent. Make selectons only whle stopped. Some map data may be ncorrect. If that nformaton s not found or corrupted, then MML player wll try to swtch to scenaro 2. If accordng to scenaro 2 there are no folders wth musc fles n multmedalnq/musc folder then MML wll swtch to scenaro 3.? If accordng to scenaro 3 there are no folders wth musc fles n the ROOT folder then MML player wll mark ths dsc unavalable and wll swtch to the next avalable dsc f t exsts.

MML Player accepts playlst's fle name as playlst's name (up to 41 characters*). MML player supports up to 999 playlsts (.m3u fles ) and up to 999 meda fles per playlst fle. "m3u" fles use the UTF8 encodng. NEW: MML Player wll create lst of ARTISTS based on M3U fles wth.m3u extenson located n folder [ROOT]/multmedalnq/m3u.Artst/. NEW: MML Player wll create lst of ALBUMS based on M3U fles wth.m3u extenson located n folder [ROOT]/multmedalnq/m3u.Album/. An M3U fle s a plan text fle that contans the locatons of one or more meda fles that the MML Player should nclude n a playlst. Each locaton s placed on a new lne. The locatons should be absolute UNIX style path names (e.g., /multmedalnq/musc/pl1/song1.mp3 ) or Wndows style path names (e.g., \multmedalnq\musc\pl1\song1.mp3 ). M3U fle also can contan comments prefaced by the "#" character. Meda fle can be located anywhere on the same dsc where the M3U fle s located, but recommended to organze your meda fles n such a way that the pathnames are as short as possble. MML Player accepts the subfolder's name as the playlst's name. Folder's name has no lmtaton on characters count, as long as the full path name wth fle name does not exceed 255 characters. MML player wll only use the frst 26 characters to create the playlst name. If that folder s not present on a playable partton, player wll create the folder. Folder structure: ROOT multmedalnq control dpls cache mage m3u.artst cache m3u.album cache m3u cache musc Playlst 1 Playlst 2 Playlst 3 Playlst 4 update l Folder control (CONTROL) Player wll check ths folder for CMD fle mmlqcmdf.cmd to add, modfy or remove data on nternal HDD (not applcable for MML); l Folder dpls (DPLS) Player wll use the folder for storng the folder-based playlsts CACHE fles (modes 1 or 2). Fle dpls_cache.pdb s playlsts CACHE fle that contans nformaton about last used folder-based operatonal mode and lst of playlsts. For scenaro 1, cache fle/s wll be created n the M3U/cache folder. MML player wll also create an addtonal cache fle dpls_cache.pdb wth a lst of folders/playlsts n the dpls folder, avalable for scenaro 2 and 3. Add/Remove Musc Fles Manually:! WARNING Cache fles have prorty over orgnal musc data. If orgnal data has been changed or re-created* n at least one folder or M3U playlst fle dependng on the scenaro used, then you must remove the correspondng cache fles to make sure MML player re-bulds the cache. You can remove ether one or all fles n the cache folder to force MML player to rebuld the cache. We strongly recommend to delete the cache fles assocated wth the changes only. Removng all fles from the cache folder wll force MML player to re-buld all cache fles on ths partcular dsc, whch wll slow down MML performance dramatcally. Add/Remove Musc Folders Manually:! WARNING The cache fle dpls_cache.pdb has prorty over orgnal musc data. If the orgnal data has been changed, for example one folder has been added, removed, or re-created*, then you must remove dpls_cache.pdb. * Fle or folder was frst removed and then created agan wth the same name. MML player constantly verfes the cache fles aganst non-exstng or non-supported fles and folders durng operaton n background mode. If t detects a certan amount of bad lnks, t wll try to re-buld on the frst attempt and wll mark unavalable for playback on the second attempt.

14 Before You Start 14 How to Eject a USB devce? Smply push the SCAN button twce n one second and then mmedately push the PWR button on your rado. On some rados the PWR button s combned wth VOL knob. Message Ejectng USB. Please wat s dsplayed to confrm you can safely remove the USB devce. Do not remove USB storage whle the devce s beng accessed, as t may result n loss of data. When Accessory of your vehcle s turned OFF, the USB devce wll be automatcally dsconnected (unmounted). NOTE Never remove USB memory or USB Audo Player devce whle playback or fle transfer s n progress, to prevent possble damage to ts memory. VAIS Technology s not responsble for any lost or damaged data on storage meda. MML Player Software Updates Please check the webste for MML Player software updates. Update fle s always named mml_upd.bn and must be placed n UPDATE folder /multmedalnq/update on the devce's frst FAT16/FAT32 partton. MML Player wll check the UPDATE folder f updates are avalable. If the update s verfed and approved, the MML player wll stop playback and ntate the update sequence. Durng the update the MML player wll always restart. After the update s done, the update fle wll be removed from the source. NOTE Update may requre 2 steps. Please follow the nstructons provded wth the update. How to adjust sound level (gan) of MP3 fles? Due to dfferent algorthms used to created MP3 fles, sound level may vary. Before puttng your songs onto the USB storage, we recommend usng MP3Gan- free cross-platform software to adjust sound level to the same perceved volume. Once playlst s cache fles are bult and the system has been restarted, MML player wll dsplay playable nformaton only. Connectng USB devce:? MML player analyzes a USB devce for playable parttons every tme t's plugged nto MML player. MML supports up to 4 parttons per USB storage devce and 6 parttons total.? The vehcle's Rado recognzes every partton as a separate dsc.? Non-playable parttons wll not be recognzed by MML player.? The USB storage devce becomes avalable as a source shortly after connecton, as an addtonal DISC. If USB storage s the only one avalable source, then MML player wll play t automatcally. Dsconnectng USB devce:? Please follow our recommendaton on How to eject a USB devce.? If USB Storage s the only connected devce to MML player then once t s ejected MML player wll stop playng and wll wat for the next avalable USB Storage devce. Dsc Loadng:? MML player wll start playng even f processng s not over for ths dsc as long as a reasonable amount of nformaton has been processed. Playlsts become avalable for browsng as they are processed on the dsc.? After a reasonable amount of nformaton has been processed and a dsc starts playng processed playlsts, MML player wll flash a SCAN button to notfy you that the rest of the playlsts are stll beng processed.? If a substantal amount of errors (bad or non-exstng fles) are detected on the dsc, MML player may start the rebuldng process automatcally, whch wll make ths dsc flash untl t s ready to play.

25 LICENSING AGREEMENT, DISCLAIMERS AND LIMITED WARRANTY VAIS TECHNOLOGY, LTD LICENSE AGREEMENT VAIS TECHNOLOGY- SoundLnQ3 (SL3),(SL3x), (Sl3s), MML, VIC (ncludng all ts models and modfcatons) for U.S.A. (herenafter referred to as PRODUCT ) and ts related software For Most Toyota/Lexus Vehcles ; (herenafter collectv ely referred to as PRODUCTS ). THIS IS A LEGAL AGREEMENT BETWEEN YOU, AS THE END USER, AND VAIS TECHNOLOGY, LTD ( VAIS ). PLEASE CAREFULLY READ THE TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF THIS AGREEMENT BEFORE USING THE VAIS PRODUCTS. BY USING THE VAIS PRODUCTS AND SOFTWARE INSTALLED ON THE VAIS PRODUCTS, YOU ARE AGREEING TO BE BOUND BY THE TERMS OF THIS AGREEMENT. THE AUDIO INTERFACE CONTROLLER AND THE AUDIO VIDEO INTERFACE CONTROLLER ARE ESSENTIALLY THE BRIDGE BETWEEN A VEHICLE, ITS EQUIPMENT, AND ANY AFTER-MARKET EQUI PMENT SUBSEQUENTLY ADDED TO THE VEHICLE BY THE END- USER. THE EQUIPMENT SOLD TO YOU, THE END USER, IF PROPERLY INSTALLE D. IS A RESETTABLE TECHNOLOGY, WHICH WILL, UNDER NORMAL CIRCUMSTANCES, AU TOMATICALLY DISCONNECT IN THE EVENT OF ANY MALFUNCTION. SINCE VAIS DOES NOT INSTALL THIS EQUIPMENT, VAIS DISCLAIMS AN Y LIABILITY FOR IMPROPER INSTALLATION OF THE VAIS TECHNOLOGY OR THE AFTER-MARKET EQUIPMENT (INPUTS). FURTHER, THE END USER ACKNOWLEDGES THAT THE PRODUCT AND ITS SOFTWARE ARE NOT INHERENTLY DANGEROUS AND DO NO T PROVIDE ANY INHERENT RISKS AND THEREFORE POTENTIAL DAMAGES TO THE END-USER, OTHER THAN Ftness for ts Purpose. GRANT OF LICENSE VAIS grants to you a non-transferable, non-exclusve lcense to use the PRODUCT and ts software nstalled on the VAIS product (the PRODUCTS ) and the related documentaton solely for your own personal use or for nternal use by your busness, only on such VAIS PRODUCTS. You shall not copy, reverse engneer, translate, port, modfy or make dervatve works of the Software contaned n t he PRODUCT. You shall not loan, rent, dsclose, publsh, sell, assgn, lease, sublcense, market or otherwse transfer the Software n the PRODUCT or use t n any manner not expressly authorzed by ths agreement. You shall not derve or attempt to derve the source code or structure of all or any porton of the Software n the PRODUCT by reverse engneerng, dsassembly, recomplaton, or any other means. You shall not use the Software n the PRODUCT to operate a servce bureau or for any other use nvolvng the processng of data for other persons or enttes. VAIS and ts lcensor(s) shall retan all copyrght, trade secret, patent and other propretary ownershp rghts to the Software n the PRODUCT. The PRODUCTS are Copyrghted/ Patented and/or at varous stages of Pendng and may not be coped, even f modfed or merged wth other products. You shall not alter or remove any copyrght notce or propretary legend contaned n or on the PRODUCTS. You may transfer all of your lcense rghts n the Software or the PRODUCT, the related documentaton and a copy of ths Lcense Agreement And Warranty to another party, provded that the party reads and agrees to accept the terms and condtons of ths Lcense Agreement And Warranty. 2. OPERATIONAL WARNING AND SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS. IMPORTANT NOTICE: YOU SHOULD READ AND FAMI LIARIZE YOURSELF THOROUGHLY WITH THE FOLLOWING INFORMATION PRIOR TO INSTALLING AND USING THE SoundLnQ3 (SL3), (SL3x),(SL3s), MML, VIC (ncludng all ts models and modfcatons) and ts related software (THE PRODUCTS ). IN ADDITION, YOU MUST CAREFULLY READ AND FOLLOW THE INSTALLATION SCHEMATICS/INSTRUCTIONS FOR THE PRODUCT AND THE VEHICLE IN WHICH IT IS BEING INSTALLED. FAILURE TO FOLLOW INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS MAY DAMAGE THE PRODUCT AND THE VEHICLE AND WILL VOID THE PRODUCT WARRANTY AND MAY VOID THE VEHICLE WARRANTY. (A copy of the nstallaton schematcs s ncluded wth the Product and can also be found on the VAIS TECHNOLOGY webste at FAILURE TO ABIDE BY THESE OPERATIONAL WARNINGS AND SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS COULD RESULT IN SERIOUS BODILY INJURY OR DEATH. IN ADDITION, FAILURE TO FOLLOW THESE INSTRUCTIONS MAY VOID THE PRODUCT WARRANTY AND COULD BECOME A BASIS FOR LIABILITY ON THE PA RT OF THE VEHICLE OPERATOR IN THE EVENT OF AN ACCIDENT WHICH RESULTS IN INJURY TO PERSONS OR PROPERTY. UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES WILL VAIS OR ITS IMMEDIATE AGENTS OR PRINCIPALS, BE LIABLE, FOR DAMAGES INCURRED TO THE PRODUCTS, THE VEHICLE OR ITS PASSENGERS, OR OTHER THIRD-PARTIES AS A RESULT OF FAILURE TO FOLLOW VAIS S INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS. 25
