1 Release Letter Prduct: Versin: Vide Recrding Manager This dcument cntains latest infrmatin abut the abve mentined maintenance release 3.71 Build 0029 f Bsch Vide Recrding Manager (VRM). This maintenance versin is designed fr usage in Bsch VMS 8.0 envirnment. Prduct bundaries are als described in the datasheet which can be fund n the Bsch web page. VRM Sftware (maintenance update versin) is included in BVMS 8.0 dwnlad t fully supprt the NetApp E2800. Imprtant Nte: The mst recent versin f Vide Recrding Manager can be dwnladed frm: (Prduct Catalg Vide Systems Vide Sftware Vide Management Systems). 1. General VRM Vide Recrding Manager prvides a Distributed Netwrk Vide Recrder slutin, eliminating the need fr dedicated NVRs and signalling the secnd generatin f IP Netwrk Vide Recrding. VRM supprts iscsi-based strage systems and the Bsch Vide IP devices (IP cameras and IP vide servers). VRM Vide Recrding Manager is cmprised f the fllwing sftware packages VRM Server including VRM Mnitr Cnfiguratin Manager Vide Streaming Gateway Please nte: Fr VRM Vide Recrding Manager v2.12 and later the Bsch Vide Client BVC is the standard replay client. The BVC sftware and dcumentatin is available n the Bsch ST web site Fr playback f vide data exprted by VRM exprt Wizard the sftware Archive Player (part f the installatin package) must be used. VRM ffers system-wide recrding mnitring and management f Bsch iscsi strage, vide servers and cameras. VRM sftware supprts Bsch H.264 and MPEG-4 IP vide devices including all encders, Dinin and FlexiDme IP cameras, as well as AutDme and Extreme IP cameras and the Bsch HD cameras. Supprted strage subsystems are the Bsch DSA and DLA disk array systems (iscsi-based DVA strage systems still will wrk). The iscsi disk arrays are nt attached directly t VRM, but instead can be attached anywhere n a standard IP netwrk via a 1 GbE uplink as well depending n iscsi strage mdel via 10 GbE (e.g. DSA E-Series E2700). With the new Vide Streaming Gateway cmpnent 3 rd party cameras supprting ONVIF, RTSP r JPEG prtcl are supprted including the Bsch Legacy devices such VJ 8008 (RCP+ prtcl). 1

Restrictins; Knwn Issues Installatin, Upgrade, Dwngrade Imprtant Nte: Dwngrade frm VRM 3.70 r higher t 3.x r earlier is nt supprted. VRM 3.70 r higher must be uninstalled and cnfig.xml must be deleted in rder t dwngrade. During the installatin prcess f VRM 3.70 r higher a backup f the riginal cnfig.xml will be stred autmatically in the VRM directry and renamed t cnfig_befre_ This file can be reused when dwngrading t VRM 3.6x by renaming it t cnfig.xml during VRM 3.6x service is stpped. Since the cnfig_befre_ xml has nly weak encryptin, it is highly recmmended t delete it at the system, if it is nt needed anymre r t mve n an external drive, which can be stred safely. Fr VRM-managed cameras the replace functinality is nt supprted. T grant access t the recrdings f a defective VRM-managed camera, keep the camera s IP address as ffline camera. Once the minimum retentin time has expired, the ip address is free t use. The camera replacement has t be added as new device t the VRM system. Fr nn-vrm-managed cameras the Cnfiguratin Manager replace feature can still be used. Camera swap functinality is nt supprted. When upgrading an existing VRM server installatin a message might be shwn that the rms service culd nt be stpped. Enter retry in the message bx and the installatin rutine will prperly be cntinued. Dwngrade frm VRM 3.20 r higher t 3.0 r earlier is nt supprted. Uninstallatin f VRM 3.20 r higher and deletin f cnfig.xml is required t dwngrade. During the installatin prcess f VRM 3.20 r higher a backup f the riginal cnfig.xml will be stred in the VRM directry. This can be reused when dwngrading t VRM 3.0 by renaming it t cnfig.xml when VRM 3.0 is stpped. Strage Supprt f E2800 cntrller strage arrays. LUN Size : Size f a single LUN may nt exceed 64 TB. If LUN-size is exceeds 2000 GB, the pl needs t be cnfigured prperly in Cnfiguratin Manager. Nte: VRM uses a virtualizatin layer and manages 1GB blcks ut f all LUNs. 2

3 Recrding Thus, fr the functinality it makes n difference hw many LUNs are cnfigured within ne strage subsystem. Restrictins fr LUNs larger than 2000 GB: Tape backup via VRM Exprt Wizard is nt pssible. Requires camera firmware versin 6.30 r later Direct iscsi playback is nt supprted Deleting LUNs n Bsch DSA FAS strage systems may take several hurs. If new LUNs are created while deleting is in prcess, the newly created LUNs have nt yet full capacity. Therefre, it is necessary t wait befre ging live until the LUNs are cmpletely deleted. The status f LUN deletin cannt be requested actively; nly the final status f the deletin prcess is accessible. This restrictin des apply t the new DSA E-Series. Restrictin: USB Transcder IQN must be added manually t DSA FAS system if FAS des nt supprt wildcard IQN Changing IP-Addresses fr iscsi-strage is nt supprted H.265 encded vide recrding and playback is supprted Time Server: VRM expects a lcal Windws Time Server running. Fr the BVIP cameras/encders an external time server must be cnfigured. The VRM Server must synchrnize with the same Time Server used fr all VRM managed BVIP cameras/encders. "Priritizatin Live Viewing vs. Recrding": Recrding and live viewing are independent prcesses and d nt have a priritizatin. The number f replay sessins started may influence the recrding, i.e. system resurces f strage array may be getting lw and unrecgnized by the VRM. Nte: Recrding must be manually cnfigured in a way t allw fr the required recrding sessins and/r replay sessins. Autmatic/Failver : On failure f the primary strage and switching t the failver strage a recrding gap f multiple secnds will ccur. Alarm recrding: smetimes an active pre-alarm recrding will be shwn twice in the recrding list. Firmware 5.0 and higher: Prealarm may be set t a minimum value f 1s and pst alarm t 5s. Firmware versins prir t 5.0 pre- and pstalarm recrding: the minimum time that can be cnfigured fr prealarm recrding is 15 secnds and 5 secnds fr pstalarm recrding. Failver: switching the primary and secndary iscsi target may result in a span list with incrrect quta Failver (Backup) server must nt execute frmat jbs Recrding Migratin: Recrdings that were created in a direct iscsi envirnment with FW 3.52 cannt be migrated directly t a VRM slutin but recrdings will be ignred. Lcal recrdings f BVIP devices with Firmware 4.10 r higher may be migrated t VRM envirnments. Changing devices frm M2 t M4 mde: Due t the additinal channels in M4 mde the recrdings frm encder input 3 that were 3

4 accessible under channel 2 in M2 mde are nw accessible under channel 3. Old recrdings f channel 3 created in M2 mde are still accessible under channel 2. Changing devices frm M4 t M2 mde: Recrdings frm channel 3 and 4 in M4 mde will nt be accessible anymre in M2 mde. Please backup any relevant data befre switching frm M4 t M2. Once the device has been set t M2 mde data f channel 3 and 4 will be deleted. FTP Exprt f Recrding: If FTP exprt fr lcal recrding f a BVIP device has been cnfigured this must be deactivated manually befre the camera/encder is mved t a VRM envirnment Authenticity check is nt available if ANR is enabled. During alarm recrding, authenticity check is nly available within the recrdings. Nte: Wrkarund privilege changes shuld be saved befre selecting a device f anther type. Mass peratins might nt wrk reliably when mre than 200 devices are selected. T avid high CPU lads while zipping system lg files in case f truble shting the zipping prcess is running with lwest pririty and may take a while. If extended lgging is activated and disk space is running belw 1 GB free space, VRM autmatically deactivates extended lgging. RCP+ lgging must nt be activated fr mre than 2000 devices. In this case extended lgging must be turned ff. If a cable is plugged in at a later time, this may cause rerdering f the detected netwrk interface prts and can cause prblems with licensing (s. abve) 5. Installatin Ntes Imprtant nte: Fr full feature cmpatibility VRM 3.71 requires the BVIP firmware versin 6.32 r later. DSA E-Series Dual Cntrller in Dual-Simplex cnfiguratin and high-density expansin shelf prducts are nt supprted in earlier firmware versins and VRM versin belw VRM VRM 3.71 itself is backward cmpatible with firmware versins 2.53 r higher. Enhancements and features available nly with firmware versin 6.0 r later will nt be active. Imprtant nte: VIDOS Client is nt supprted by VRM 3.0 and newer. 6. Cnfiguratin Ntes Retentin Time : The maximum Retentin Time is lwer priritized than actual recrding. This means, if the preset maximum retentin time is lnger than the available strage capacity allws fr the lder recrdings are verwritten. The minimum Retentin Time has a higher pririty than recrding. If the preset minimum retentin time is lnger than the available strage capacity allws fr recrding will be stpped and data is nt deleted. Nte: Capacity necessary must be calculated manually depending n the desired retentin time values 5
