3 Gettng Started Assembly Dockng the Tag Dockng the Camera Mcro SD Card Dock the Tag, wth buttons facng up, nto the Accessory/Chargng Port on the front of the Base. Attach the Tag to the Base by frst nsertng from the top, as depcted n the graphc below. Dock the OptcX Camera to the Base by gudng t down onto the tlt drum from above, and then pushng t forward untl t securely clcks nto place. Insert an approved Mcro SD Card (not ncluded) nto the sde of the OptcX Camera. You wll hear a clck when fully nserted. IMPORTANT Your SD card wll be completely erased. Make sure to save any content that you don t want erased Vst support.soloshot.com for a lst of compatble SD cards. Connectng the Base to the Trpod Trpod Adapter Screw Connectng Usng the Trpod Tool For the best results, we recommend mountng the Base on a Trpod wth a /8 mountng screw. If you already have a pan/tlt head on your trpod, please remove t pror to connectng your Base. If your trpod only has a ¼ screw, use the provded Trpod Adapter Screw. Hand tghten the Base onto your trpod untl you feel lght resstance from the pannng motor. Avod excessve manual pannng and tltng of the Base motors by hand. Use the provded Trpod Tool to fnsh tghtenng. 4 Chargng the Base and Tag Chargng Cord & Adapter Chargng Tme Powerng On Insert the Mn USB Chargng Cord nto a USB outlet adapter (not ncluded) and plug t nto the Base..5A to.a outlet adapter s requred. (most tablet charger adapters) Fully charge the Base and Tag pror to use. Ths wll take about 4 hours. Chargng tme vares based on USB wall adapter ratng. INFO Only the Base & Tag contan batteres and must be recharged. The Camera can, but does not need to be connected. To power on Base, press and hold the Power Button for seconds. To power on Tag, press the Power Button. IMPORTANT The SOLOSHOT must be n an uprght poston durng devce update & regstraton, and durng general use. Prevent SOLOSHOT from tppng over when the Camera s connected. Connect the Base to your Trpod. (See page ) Update Preparng and Regstraton your SOLOSHOT Create an Account Update Tag Regstraton Create a SOLOSHOT account at app.soloshot.com. Power on the Base and follow the on-screen nstructons to update your devce. After regsterng your Tags, you are prompted to select the trackng preferences of the Tag. IMPORTANT A SOLOSHOT account s requred before setup of your SOLOSHOT. IMPORTANT Your SOLOSHOT must be uprght and level upon start-up and updatng software. It s recommend t be connected to a trpod durng ths process. IMPORTANT The screen wll be blank for up to one mnute durng certan steps of the update process. Do not power down devce durng update. 5 Update Preparng and Regstraton your SOLOSHOT Tag Preference: Auto Track Tag Preference: Ask To Track 4 Regstraton Contnued from prevous page When the Tag s turned on and wthn range of the Base, the Base wll automatcally track ths Tag. Ths s the default settng. When the Tag s turned on and wthn range of the Base, the Tag wll need to be toggled on wthn the Tag Manager. Tags that are toggled off wll not be tracked by the Base. Fnsh setup by updatng and regsterng your Base, Tag(s) and Camera to your SOLOSHOT account, created n Step. Locaton and Trpod Setup IMPORTANT Settng up the SOLOSHOT Trpod To ensure the best flmng results: Level your SOLOSHOT usng the bubble level on the Trpod. Ensure that both the Base and Tag always have a clear vew of the sky. Do not brng the Tag and/or Base nsde once powered on. Do not setup under an overhang, dense tree canopy, or close to a buldng or clffs. Open and set up the Trpod by unlockng the Leg Locks (a) and extendng the telescopng legs untl the Trpod s at the desred heght. Lock the Leg Locks. In wndy or otherwse unstable condtons, be sure to wden the leg stance usng the Wde Leg Locks (b). Trpod Neck Extenson: Extend the Trpod Neck by loosenng the Neck Thumb Screw (c). Tghten Neck Thumb Screw and Leg Locks when desred heght s acheved. Wde Leg Lock Opton: Use a wder stance f necessary to mprove stablty or to account for local topography. For example, n wndy or unstable condtons, or n areas where the Trpod may be bumped or jostled, you should use a wder stance. 7 Usng Preparng the Track your App SOLOSHOT Begn Trackng Home Screen/Track App Track Button Trackng Acton Sheet Wthn the HOME SCREEN, tap TRACK to enter the Track App. Tap the TRACK button. If Ask to Track was selected when settng up your Tag or no Tag s detected, follow the onscreen nstructons. Ths s the trackng acton sheet, whch allows you to ether begn trackng, or change trackng settngs. Select TRACK. 4 5 Track Modes Calbraton IMPORTANT Select the TRACK MODE that best matches your actvty. See page 4, Track Mode descrptons Tap CONTINUE to begn calbratng the system. The Base and Camera wll spn and tlt for about one mnute as t calbrates the sensors. Before begnnng your actvty, we recommend that you walk back and forth n front of the Camera a few tmes n the area where you wll be performng your actvty. 8 Calbratng Successful Calbraton Problem Detected Green Indcator LED States Once calbraton s successful, your Base wll automatcally begn trackng the selected Tag(s). Other successful calbraton ndcators: The Camera vewfnder appears on the screen. The LED at the front of the BASE blnks green. If every selected Tag ndcates they do not wsh to be tracked, then the Base wll be dle. Calbraton may fal due to poor GPS sgnal or local magnetc nterference. In ths case, follow the on-screen nstructons. Please be sure to set up your Base n a locaton wth a clear vew of the sky and away from sources of magnetc nterference. See page 5, LOCATION SETUP LED s hghly drectonal and changes brghtness wth dstance. If you can see t, the Base s pontng at you and you are wthn range. Slow Blnkng Base s actvely trackng. IMPORTANT SOLOSHOT s desgned to track subjects outsde a 0 ft. radus. If the subject s nsde ths radus, trackng may not work properly. Tag Manager Contnue on next page REQUIREMENTS Accessng the Tag Manager Selectng Tags In order for a Tag to be detected by a Base, t must be: Powered on Have been docked to the Base n the past Be wthn the,000-ft. trackng dstance Have a GPS sgnal The TAG MANAGER s accessble n the followng ways. 9 Tag Manager Contnued from prevous page Tag Icon to Tag Manager Tag Manager: Sesson Tag Manager: All Tappng the Tag Icon wll take you to the Tag Manager. Ths lst comprses of Tags that the Base s currently trackng, meets the pre-requstes to be tracked, or has been tracked n the current sesson. The lst starts out empty untl a Tag meets the pre-requstes. Tags reman n the lst untl the Base has been turned off, but wll reman n the ALL lst. Ths lst shows a hstory of every Tag that has ever been docked onto the Base, even f they do not meet the pre-requstes. Ths allows you to vew and manage your hstory of Tag, ncludng the ablty to forget Tags. The Numbers Below the Tag Icon are two numbers. The numerator (st number) shows how many Tags are currently beng tracked. The denomnator (nd number) shows how many Tags are pared, n range, and avalable to be tracked. Wearng the Tag Snappng In Hear the Clck Buttons Up Snap the Tag nto the Armband Clp wth the button sde algned wth the clp wndow. You wll hear a dstnct clck when Tag s n place. 10 Usng the Vewfnder Tag Manager Dsplays how many Tags are beng tracked. Tap to navgate to the Tag Manager. Track Start or stop trackng. Usng the Tag Screen Battery Level Dsplays the remanng battery level. Trackng Status Dsplays whether the TAG would lke to be tracked. 11 Pause and Resume Trackng IMPORTANT A good GPS sgnal s requred for trackng. Be sure to power-on the Tag and make sure t has a clear vew of the sky before begnnng your actvty. 12 Start and Stop Lve Streamng WARNING LIVE The LIVE Acton Sheet All lve streams are vewable to the publc on the SOLOSHOTapp. REQUIREMENTS Connected to W-F. Internet Speed Requrements: A mnmum of 5 Mbps upload speed Stream qualty depends on the nternet connecton speed. Base s calbrated. See page 8, CALIBRATING Regardless of recordng resoluton, the lve stream vdeo s compressed at 70p60. Tap the LIVE button. The lve streamng acton sheet allows you to begn lve streamng or change lve stream settngs. Tap GO LIVE or SETTINGS. 4 5 SETTINGS GO LIVE Endng a Lve Stream If SETTINGS s selected: Add a Ttle and Descrpton to your stream. Ths nformaton wll appear on your stream n the SOLOSHOTapp. If the Ttle s unchanged, t wll default to Lve wth #SOLOSHOT Select GO LIVE. The Base wll attempt to connect to the SOLOSHOT network. Lve Stream Started whle lve stream s actve, the track app nterface shows the LIVE hghlghted n red. Lve Stream Faled Check your nternet connecton and try agan. 13 Movng the Base No Problem Re-Calbraton NOTE It s possble to reposton the Base at any tme. Smply pck up the Base (and Trpod) and move t to a new locaton. If trackng s on Pckng up the Base wll automatcally pause trackng and recordng. Once stable, the Base wll re-calbrate and resume trackng and/or recordng If trackng s paused The Base wll re-calbrate once the user resumes trackng. Mantan locaton setup best practces. See page 5, LOCATION SETUP Trackng Dstance Mnmum Dstance Maxmum Dstance The Base s optmzed to track Tags at least 0 feet away. When trackng Tags nsde a 0 feet radus, the Base may temporarly lose the subject. Up to,000 feet away. If Tags fall out of range, the Base wll become dle, or track the next avalable tag n multmode. Feld of Vew Framng Trajectory The Feld of Vew (FOV) determnes how much of the shot s vsble on Camera. The tghter the FOV, the camera wll zoom n. The subject wll appear larger n the frame relatve to the vsble background. The wder the FOV, the Camera wll be zoomed out. The subject wll appear smaller n the frame relatve to the vsble background. Feld-of-Vew Parameters: Tght 0 meters Medum 0 meters Wde 40 meters Extra Wde 80 meters Framng determnes where the subject wll appear wthn the shot. Choosng a framng settng s entrely based on personal preference. Framng Parameters: Top Left Top Center Top Rght Mddle Left Center Mddle Rght Bottom Left Bottom Center Bottom Rght Note: When the Feld of Vew has been set to medum or tght, the only framng parameters avalable are Mddle Center and Bottom Center. If the Base temporarly loses the Tag s sgnal, the trajectory wll determne how long the Base wll contnue to move n the same drecton and speed at the tme the sgnal was lost. The default s set to seconds. Range s -0 seconds. Example: Great for surfng when becomng completely covered up n a barrel. Ths mode keeps the Camera trackng on the last known trajectory to ensure that you re stll n frame when reemergng. The Camera wll temporarly pause trackng f t's unable to reacqure the Tag s sgnal wthn the specfed trajectory tme settng. In other words, f you plan on beng nsde a barrel for more than seconds, then set trajectory to 4 seconds or more. Once the Camera reacqures the Tag s sgnal, t wll automatcally resume trackng. 16 Photo Mode: Camera Settngs Selectng Photo Mode Photo Mode: Camera Settngs Photo Burst Enter CAMERA SETTINGS (page 5). Tap Camera Mode Select Photo. Tap the BACK ARROW to enter Photo Camera Settngs. Here, you can adjust the followng: Photo Mode Sngle or Burst Tmer The delay tme between when you tell the Camera to take a photo(s) to when the shutter fres. When Burst s selected, a new opton s avalable. Rate Ths settng allows you to choose the number of consecutve photos to take over a perod of tme. Takng Photos Requrements From the Tag From the Base In Photo Mode Must be Calbrated and Trackng. Press the Button on the Tag. The Camera wll take photos based on your selected settngs. 17 Mult-Mode Follow Mode Settngs Select Tags Select Follow Mode Settngs Descrptons Enter the Tag Manager from ether the Home Screen or the Track App. Select whch Tags you want to follow. On each Base, choose between three () settngs that nstructs your Base whch Tag to follow. Each Base beng used to follow multple Tags or the same Tag can be confgured dfferently. Closest The Base wll track the closest Tag. Fastest The Base wll track the fastest movng Tag. Button Press Tappng the button on the Tag wll trgger all Bases on the Button Press settng to begn trackng that Tag. The Base wll contnue to track ths Tag untl another Tag performs the button press. Flmng Scenaros: Multple Tags from a sngle Base Requrements Select Tags Follow Mode The Tags that you d lke to track n the sesson must be saved to the Base. Enter the TAG MANAGER. On all Bases beng used, toggle trackng on for the Tag that you would lke to track. Follow Mode does not apply here as there s only one Tag n the system. Ext the TAG MANAGER by tappng the BACK ARROW. Calbrate your Base and begn Trackng. Flmng Scenaros: Multple Tags from multple Bases Requrements Select Tags Follow Mode The Tags that you d lke to track n the sesson must be saved to all Base. Enter the TAG MANAGER. On all Bases beng used, Toggle trackng on for all Tags that you would lke to track. Select FOLLOW MODE. Follow Modes can be dfferent on each Base. 19 Moton Tme-Lapse Settng MTL Parameters Overvew + Open Settngs Modfy Settngs Settngs Moton Tme Lapse s the ablty to capture a seres of photos at whle movng at predetermned ntervals. From the Home Screen, tap the Dropdown Menu, then Settngs. Modfy Interval and Number of Frames to create your desred result. Elapsed Tme wll automatcally calculate. TIP Use a shorter nterval [- seconds] when capturng faster movng objects. Use a longer nterval [5 seconds or more] when capturng slower movng objects Interval The number of seconds that wll elapse between each photo. Interval Parameters: s, 5s, 0s, 0s, 60s Number of Frames The number of photos that wll be taken n the sesson. Number of Frames Parameters: 0, 00, 00, 450, 900, 800 Elapsed Tme The total tme t takes to perform the moton tme lapse. It s calculated by multplyng the nterval by number of frames, and s dsplayed n total mnutes. Settng Start and End Ponts Set Start Pont Set End Pont Use the arrows to fnd a START pont and adjust the feld of vew (degree of zoom). Tap SET. 20 Manual App Home Screen Pan, Tlt and Zoom Prevew the Frame Wthn the HOME SCREEN, tap MANUAL CONTROL to enter the Manual Control App. Adjust the camera s framng by tappng on the pan, tlt, and zoom (n/out) controls. Tap anywhere else on the vewfnder to hde the controls and the status bar. You can also hde only the controls va the dropdown menu (below). 21 Update App Overvew Check For Updates Updatng SOLOSHOT and ts components wll contnually mprove over tme wth frequent software updates. Updates contan performance mprovements, new features, and bug fxes just lke software updates on your smartphone or computer. In the home screen, select the UPDATE APP. The system wll automatcally check for avalable update. If an update s avalable, you can vew the change log and/or begn the update by tappng Update. Follow the on-screen nstructons to update the Base, Tag, and Camera. If no updates are avalable, then tap DONE to return to the home screen. Tag Update Mode Power Off Power On In Update Mode Dock the Tag The Tag must be placed n Update mode before updatng the software. Whle holdng down the press the power button. button, Dock the Tag nto the accessory port on the front of the Base. Power off the Tag by holdng down the Power button for seconds, untl the screen turns off. Follow the onscreen nstructons and contnue wth the update process. 24 Offloadng Content Ejectng the McroSD Card SD Card Reader and Adapter Movng DCIM Folder Push the McroSD card to eject t from the SD card port. Carefully remove the McroSD Card. Do Not use sharp/metal tools to remove the card. Ths may damage the McroSD Card port. Insert the McroSD card nto a SD card reader. If your computer does not have a bult-n reader, an external reader wll be needed. A McroSD Card Adapter, below, may be needed. Ths s usually ncluded wth the McroSD Card.
