If these workgroups are ot i the same site, or are separated by routers or firewalls, you have to establish access to allow these services to work together. The mai compoets are a Avid Iterplay Egie ad two Iterplay Trasfer Egies. All these services are TCP/IP based. The Avid Iterplay Egie leverages the stadard HTTP service o port 80. The Iterplay Trasfer Egies use port umbers that are defied i the services file i \WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS\ETC\. As istalled, these port umbers are as follows: the Iterplay Trasfer Egie listes o this port for requests from other TM servers (for example, iitiatig a workgroup trasfer) This is the default port used by the Iterplay Trasfer Egie for coectig to playback servers (for example, AirSpeed Multi Stream) The Iterplay Trasfer Egie listes o this port for icomig requests from the Trasfer Cliet. Iterplay Trasfer uses ports 6432 ad 6535 to commuicate with the sedig or receivig device. After the Trasfer Egie establishes the coectio, the OS o the exteral device assigs a port ad otifies the Trasfer Egie of the ew port umber. The the exteral device starts listeig o that port. Trasfer Egie uses the ew port umber for sedig or receivig data. If the receivig Iterplay Trasfer Egie is ot setup to allocate eough badwidth i the Max. simultaeous trasfers settig, the the trasfer fails. The maximum umber of Studio members is Press Eter. The umber you selected is appeded to the Studio ame. For example, if you select 3, the Studio ame appears as Studioame[3]. 59

Whe a workflow requires searchig across remote workgroups or performig workgroup-to-workgroup trasfers through Iterplay Access, a admiistrator must set up the local workgroup so that a user ca access a remote workgroup. You set up this access i the Iterplay Admiistrator tool s Cofigure Remote Workgroup view. The admiistrator of the remote Workgroup also eeds to add the user ame ad password of the local workgroup to allow logi. Cofigurig a remote workgroup i this view is ot eeded for trasfer from Iterplay Assist, Avid Istict, or Avid editig systems. After access to a workgroup is properly cofigured, a Iterplay Access user ca select from a list of remote workgroups whe performig a search or a trasfer. For example, databases for properly cofigured remote workgroups are listed i the Server list of the Workgroup Trasfer Presets view ad i the Iterplay Access Sed to Workgroup dialog box. You ca cofigure a maximum of 10 hostames. For example, you ca cofigure for searchig five remote workgroups ad five Nearchive servers for a total of 10. To set up access to remote workgroups: 1. Make sure the list of users for the remote workgroup icludes the user ame ad password of users i the local workgroup who require access to the remote workgroup. For trasfers, make sure the user ame ad password match exactly, ad that Admiistrator passwords also match exactly. 2. I the Output Audio Mix area, select the type of audio output you wat. t Direct chael output - Sed to Playback trasfers audio tracks without performig a mixdow. t Stereo output - Sed to Playback mixes all of the tracks to a stereo pair, usig pa cotrols to split the tracks. The sequece is copied before the mixdow is edited i, ad the suffix.trasfer is added to the ame (same as i the direct output optio). 8. I the Trascode area, if you wat to allow the trascodig of clips before performig a sed to playback operatio, do the followig: t Select Trascode before sedig to playback. t From the Miimum resolutio warig threshold meu, select the lowest resolutio allowed for the playback device before a warig message is displayed. For example, if you select MPEG30, a warig message will display durig a sed to playback operatio, if a clip i the sequece has a resolutio below MPEG30. Therefore, o warig message displays whe clip resolutios are MPEG30 ad above. Dyamic Relik must be eabled to use the Trascode before sedig to playback optio. Best Practices for usig Direct Out mode This sectio describes a best practice for sedig a sequece cotaiig multi-chael (also kow as multichael) audio tracks to playback whe usig Direct Out mode. Whe usig Direct Out mode, keep the multi-chael audio tracks at the bottom of your audio tracks. Whe you sed to playback i Direct Out mode the system expads the stereo tracks to separate moo tracks. If there are sigle tracks at the bottom of the track list you may get uexpected results after the top tracks expad. For example, a sigle track that was o track 5 may ow be o a differet track. If you keep the sigle tracks at the top you ca avoid this kid of problem. See the editig applicatio Help for additioal iformatio o multi-chael audio. Allowig Trasfers to Other Workgroups ad Workstatios Depedig o your eviromet, you ca trasfer items to other workgroups ad workstatios that have Iterplay Trasfer software istalled. Avid AirSpeed ad Avid AirSpeed Multi Stream are cosidered workgroups. To allow trasfers to other workgroups ad workstatios: 1. The Iterplay Trasfer MXF OP1a FTP DHM allows MXF OP1a files to be brought ito Avid shared storage or a Avid editig eviromet from a FTP server. You ca also export Avid media files i MXF OP1a format to a FTP server usig this same MXF OP1a FTP DHM. Durig the igest or import process of media, the aspect ratio might ot be preserved as expected i a Avid shared storage eviromet. For example, 16:9 media might be stored as 4:3. Also, the essece might be altered to the 4:3 SD format durig the igest or import process. Typically, a playback MXF OP1a aspect ratio metadata should be i syc with its essece. Ay differece betwee the aspect ratio value i the essece ad its MXF metadata wrapper might cause a MXF compliace error. Depedig o the MXF decoder, these differeces might have differet behaviors. By default, the aspect ratio displayed durig a Sed To Playback operatio is the modified aspect ratio metadata value stored i the Avid shared storage eviromet. Whe settig up a FTP Server profile, you ca overwrite the aspect ratio metadata value usig the Playback Aspect Ratio optio. You should evaluate the MXF playback file to make sure it displays the correct aspect ratio at target display devices. However, the followig limitatios must be take ito accout: Legacy playback DHM Op1A MXF ecoders may ot be coded properly to hadle ay extraeous acillary data track ( D tracks ) made available i Iterplay 2.2. Eve if existig or ew MXF ecoders are able to process D tracks, the destiatio playback devices may ot be able to cosume D tracks. Eve if both the ecoder ad playback device ca process the material, there will be times whe the acillary data is ot required ad should be igored. Give the above cosideratios, Avid Iterplay Trasfer allows you to filter out ay D tracks via the Trasfer Maager cofiguratio utility. D track filterig is o by default. Ay playlist or sub clip playlist retured by the playback compositio sequece will omit ay D tracks eve if they preset. As the result, ay DHM MXF ecoders will ot see ay D tracks ad do ot eed to hadle them. I this way, existig MXF ecoders should cotiue to ecode oly video ad audio tracks correctly ad trasparetly. The above filterig mechaism does ot apply to ay DET-based trasfers. Workig with Rudows I a broadcast eviromet, you ca eable the Iterplay Trasfer schedulig feature to allow iteractio with the Newsroom Computer System (NRCS). You ca select the assets to sed to playback, ad the schedule list from the NRCS determies the order i which the assets are played back. To use the Iterplay Trasfer with rudows: 1. O your Iterplay Trasfer server, click Start, ad select All Programs > Avid > Avid Iterplay Trasfer Egie Cofiguratio. The Iterplay Trasfer Egie Cofiguratio widow opes. 2. I the Playlist Iformatio area, select Use Newsroom rudows to schedule trasfers. 120

You ca use the Sed to Playback commad with sequeces that cotai clips of differet resolutios. Ay clips i the sequece with resolutios ot matchig the target resolutio settigs i the Dyamic Relik dialog box are trascoded to the target resolutio. The applicatio creates a ew master clip (with the extesio.ew) ad associates the ew clip with the ew trascoded media. Before the Sed to Play operatio begis, the applicatio searches the sequece for ay clips with a udesirable resolutio for the trascode operatio, such as clips with low resolutios that would create a low quality output after the clip is trascoded. If clips are foud, a warig message is displayed to let you decide if the Sed to Play operatio should cotiue with a lower quality output. You ca set the miimum resolutio allowed before displayig the warig message by usig the Trasfer Settigs dialog box. 123 Trasferrig Files From a Igest Device XDCAM HD Sed to Playback Acceleratio You ca iitiate the play while trasfer (PWT) of a XDCAM HD clip or sequece to AirSpeed Multi Stream shortly after you begi the Sed to Playback (STP) operatio. Previously, you had to wait util the system exported the clip before you could begi playback. This feature requires the followig: Specific versios of the followig applicatios: - Media Composer v5.5.1, Symphoy v5.5.1, or NewsCutter v9.5.1, or later. - Iterplay Assist v2.3 or later - Avid Istict v3.5 or later Airspeed Multi Stream v1.7 or later XDCAM HD material You ca use the play while trasfer feature with the STP Ecode backgroud processig service. For iformatio o STP Ecode, see the Avid Iterplay Media Services Setup ad User s Guide or the Iterplay Help. If the correct versios of the editors or AirSpeed Multi Stream are ot available, the system uses the older STP method where the clip is exported before playback begis. Ope the bi o your Avid editig system where you wat to capture the files. You might have to miimize both the Avid editig applicatio ad the igest device s applicatio so that you ca view both at the same time o your desktop. 4. The Iterplay Trasfer MXF OP1a FTP DHM allows MXF OP1a files to be brought ito Avid shared storage or a Avid editig eviromet from a FTP server. You ca also export Avid media files i MXF OP1a format to a FTP server usig this same MXF OP1a FTP DHM. For MXF OP-1A files created by the FTP-DHM, the MXF Filler uiversal label (that is part of the file s iteral metadata) is ow as close as possible to beig SMPTE MXF-compliat. This chage might create a issue for older MXF decoders that have ot bee updated to take ito accout both uiversal labels i use: MXF Filler Style Legacy RP210-compliat SMPTE Uiversal Label 06.0e.2b e.2b For procedures required to itegrate a FTP server ito a workgroup, see Cofigurig Capture ad Playback of MXF DHM OPIa File Formats o page 78. The Avid FTP Media Browser applicatio allows you to browse the cotets of a FTP server to select the MXF OP1a files that you wat to import ito the Avid system. The MXF OP1a FTP DHM rewraps the imported files i Avid MXF-OP-Atom format. Because some vedors implemet MXF OP1a support i a way that deviates from the referece stadard, Avid caot guaratee support for devices that do ot comply with the referece stadard. I additio, Play While Trasfer, Overwrite, Frame-Chase Editig, ad partial-trasfer capabilities are ot supported with the MXF OP1a FTP DHM. Iterplay Trasfer supports capture from ad play back to File Trasfer Protocol (FTP) servers that are compliat with FTP. The FTP DHM ca work with FTP servers o differet subets tha the Iterplay Trasfer server. Microsoft.NET Framework 1.1 must be istalled o the Iterplay Trasfer server ad Iterplay Trasfer cliet systems whe you are usig FTP DHM. You ca istall.net Framework durig the Iterplay Trasfer istallatio. Durig the trasfer, the FTP DHM compoet supports the Ru, Pause, Resume, Retry, ad Cacel fuctios that are available from the Iterplay Trasfer server. Pause ad Resume fuctios are costraied by the time-out settig o the FTP server. The compoets support multi-threaded operatios that allow for simultaeous trasfer operatios to occur. If you cacel a trasfer before it is complete, the part of the trasfer that succeeded before the cacellatio remais o the server. Whe you are workig with XDCAM media, Avid strogly recommeds that you use distictive clips ames whe recordig through a XDCAM device. You set these clip ames o the XDCAM device itself. Avoid the default clip ames or other geeric ames, because after you import or igest the clips, the clips ames are used for relikig. If two clips share a clip ame ad timecode, they might relik icorrectly. This relikig issue ca also affect archive ad trascode workflows usig XDCAM media. Clips that are i the process of beig captured are referred to as i-progress clips. You ca work with i-progress clips o a Avid editig system, Avid Istict, or Avid Iterplay Assist. O a Avid editig system, you ca work directly from the Iterplay widow, or you ca check out a clip to a bi. You ca use the followig editig fuctios oly whe you are workig with the available captured media of a i-progress clip: Editig i-progress clips ito a sequece You ca edit the captured portios of i-progress clips ito a sequece. Subclips Whe creatig a subclip from a i-progress clip, you must place the IN ad OUT poits where media has already bee captured ad is available. Trimmig The right-side trim limit of a i-progress clip is determied by the curretly available media. Whe you trim a i-progress clip to the ed of available media, the trim fuctios as if it had reached the ed of the clip. As more media is captured, the trim limit icreases. Performig the trim at a later time might allow more trimmig because more media might become available. The followig editig fuctios are ot available whe you are workig with i-progress clips: Clip duplicatio Duplicatio of a i-progress clip is ot allowed because the duplicated clip loses its relatioship with the origial i-progress master clip. Group clips You caot use a i-progress clip i a group clip, because the legth of a i-progress clip is ukow util the capture is complete. Group clips are based o the legth of the cotributig clips. This limitatio applies to all of the related groupig operatios, such as AutoSyc, Group Clips, ad MultiGroup. Cosolidate, Trascode, ad Audio Coversio You caot cosolidate, trascode, or perform audio coversio with a i-progress clip. All the media must be available ad the legth of the clip kow before you ca perform these fuctios. However, you ca 141

I these cases, ay right-side hadles are restricted by the kow media duratio of the i-progress clip at the time of the operatio. For example, if you set 2-secod hadles but there is oly 1-secod of media available for a hadle at the time the cosolidate or trascode operatio is executed, the the right-side hadle is restricted to 1 secod. Decompose The restrictios for decompose are the same as cosolidate ad trascode. The right-side hadles caot exceed the kow media duratio of the clip. No-Check-i export You caot export a i-progress clip or a sequece that cotais i-progress clips because the fial clip legth might be differet tha the clip legth at the time of the export. Variable-bit-rate media The oly variable-bit-rate (variable-frame-size) media supported for Frame Chase editig is low-res log-gop MPEG-2 media captured by the Avid Iterplay low-res ecoder. Oly media captured by supported igest devices is supported for Frame Chase editig. Usig the Capture tool Frame Chase editig is ot available o a Avid editig system that is usig the Capture tool to capture media. 142

154 Icreasig the Performace of Trasfers Chagig the File Limit of Media Directories Whe Iterplay Trasfer performs capture or heavy workgroup-to-workgroup trasfers, a sigle directory ca grow to more tha 10,000 files. This ca cause performace problems. By default, whe Iterplay Trasfer starts, it checks the umber of files i the Iterplay Trasfer maaged directory. If the file cout is greater tha 95% of 10,000 files, it creates a ew directory. If you wat to lower these values, you must add ew parameters to the TMserver.ii file. File balacig is doe oly whe the Iterplay Trasfer starts. The followig is a sample of media directories maaged by Iterplay Trasfer: \\uityfilesystem\workspacename\avid MediaFiles \MXF\TM_[tmserverHostame]. Durig startup oly, the Iterplay Trasfer server checks each media directory for the umber of files i the directory. If the media directory cotais more files tha specified by FileCoutThreshold% of MaxFiles (for example, 95% of 10,000), the Iterplay Trasfer server creates a ew directory usig the same directory ame ad appeds the ame with a uderscore ad a icremetal umber. Durig startup, the Iterplay Trasfer server lists all the media directories o Avid shared storage. Each directory maaged by the Iterplay Trasfer server is listed with three asterisks before it; each secodary directory has three hyphes before it. For all directories maaged by Iterplay Trasfer, the umber of files per directory is displayed. I additio, a display of these PMR primary ad secodary directories is icluded i the Iterplay Trasfer server s dump commad. Icreasig the Performace of Workgroup-to-Workgroup Trasfers Before performig workgroup-to-workgroup trasfers ad playback trasfers you eed to set the type of storage you are usig for the trasfers. You get better trasfer performace whe you select a storage type that matches your eviromet.
