All of the services ca ru o a sigle computer, or they ca be spread out across multiple computers with redudat services cofigured as backups to take cotrol if ay or all of the primary services should become uavailable. A example of a basic Commad system architecture is show i the followig illustratio: Avid recommeds havig all primary Commad services o oe desigated primary server with the backup services ruig o other backup servers. Commad determies primary ad backup roles based o the legth of time the service has bee ruig. The server that has bee ruig loger is the primary. 45 Istallig Avid inews Commad o the Server By default, two Avid AirSpeed device services are istalled as part of the Server Istallatio set. If more are eeded, you ca add them by clickig the plus [+] ext to that service ad selectig more. If you are ot usig Commad to cotrol ay Avid AirSpeed video servers, the click the plus ad deselect them. Although ot selected by default with a server istallatio, Avid does recommed istallig the Avid inews Commad Workstatio software o the server as well, because it ca be useful i some troubleshootig situatios. If your site iteds to cotrol third-party video device(s) via VDCP, esure that the Avid Video device service is selected for istallatio. Add oe for each device up to five possible per server by clickig the plus [+] ext to that service ad selectig more. By default, this device service is ot istalled. For redudacy whe usig VDCP, Avid recommeds mirrored playback with the Avid Video device service o the primary Commad Server ruig the primary video server ad aother Avid Video Device service o the backup Commad Server ruig the mirrored video server. These services will ru parallel to each other, ot as primary/backup services. This esures the most seamless trasitio should the primary server fail. If it does, the backup server cotiues, allowig for mirrored-oly playback. If your site iteds to display the timecode for playig video i the cotrol room o a video moitor or o a multipurpose text display device located ext to or uder the video moitor, the Avid UMD device service must be selected for istallatio. It is ot selected to be istalled by default. Whe timecodes are displayed o a video moitor, the moitor is cosidered a I Moitor Display device (or IMD). Whe displayed separately, the device is cosidered a Uder Moitor Display device (or UMD). Whe the UMD device service is selected for istallatio, the Avid UMD device service is istalled alog with Avid s TSL plug-i. Both are eeded for Commad itegratio with UMD or IMD devices. After istallatio, additioal cofiguratio is also ecessary. For more iformatio, see Cofigurig the Avid UMD Device Service o page 63. If your site iteds to cotrol playback via a Maey pael, esure that the Avid Maey Pael device service is selected for istallatio. It must be istalled o the computer where the Measuremet Computig PCI card is physically located. If a alterative GPI device will be used for playback cotrol, select the GPI device service for istallatio. By default, either of these two services are istalled. If your site iteds to view thumbails of media items, such as graphics from a Avid Deko or video from Avid AirSpeed video servers, esure that either or both of the followig services are istalled: - For thumbail itegratio with a Avid AirSpeed, istall the Avid Iterplay Aget service. Avid recommeds that you do ot use VDCP to cotrol AirSpeed video servers.urestricted VDCP is ot supported for o-air broadcastig. Cofigurig Avid Video Device Services (VDS) The Avid inews Commad user iterface lets you itegrate with some third-party video devices via the etwork or via Video Disk Cotrol Protocol (VDCP). For this itegratio to work, however, some cofiguratio of the device service is required, which varies depedig o the type of itegratio. The followig sectios cotai iformatio related to Commad itegratio with Omeo or Harris devices, as well as others that use VDCP. Cofigurig VDS for Omeo The Avid Video device service has a plug-i that allows for etwork-based cotrol of Omeo Spectrum ad Media Deck. Selectig the Omeo plug-i also meas that the Video device service is fully redudat, like other Commad services. For the plug-i to work, however, some cofiguratio is required, usig the Avid Service Cofiguratio applicatio of Avid Service Framework. For more iformatio about this applicatio, see the Avid Service Framework User s Guide. To cofigure the Avid Video device service for Omeo etwork cotrol: 1. Click the Start butto, ad the select All Programs > Avid > Service Framework > Avid Service Cofiguratio. 2. O the Hosts tab, avigate to ad select the Avid Video Device Service. 3. Whe prompted, eter the system admiistrator password ad click OK. If you have ot yet created oe, leave the space blak ad click OK. 4. O the Plug-i Chooser tab, select the Omeo plug-i ad click Apply. Trasfer Status is a feature that oly works with Iterplay. It is depedet o the Iterplay Aget service gettig metadata from Iterplay. Select the check box oly if this is the case with your system. For more iformatio, see Trasfer Status Ico o page Eter the machie ame or IP address of the Omeo s Media Director. This iformatio is obtaiable via the Omeo System Maager software. 12. Leave the Clip Directory field blak to accept the default or eter aother pathame for the directory that will hold all of the media clips. A example of the clip directory is: /OMN/clip.dir. 13. Omeo usually stores clip iformatio i MOV or MXF formats. The extesio for the default format is.mov.mxf so that either format is recogized. 14. Edit ad add chael idices accordigly: - The first chael idex will appear automatically with the player iformatio filled i, but it ca be modified as eeded. The chael idex values must match the chael idex value whe you add the device chael i Commad. Commad is case sesitive, so the case must match exactly. - Eter the ame for each player. This iformatio is also obtaiable via the Omeo System Maager software. - Use the Add butto to add more. To chage a settig, click o it ad select the proper idex beig used from the list that appears. 52

For a redudat cofiguratio, you ca apply these settigs to the secod device service by clickig the Apply To... butto. If the Apply To... butto is dimmmed, make a bogus chage, such as addig a splace to a settig ad deletig it, ad the movig to a differet field. The click the Apply To... butto ad avigate to the secod device service. 16. Cofirm cofiguratio by viewig the service i Health Moitor. The service will appear coected with a gree checked ico displayed whe it is workig properly. If usig the Avid Video device service to cotrol a Omeo, ad if you wat to use Commad s system settig, Hold Last Frame the default for which is five secods you must cofigure the settig, Advace-to-Cued, to zero o the Omeo device. Avid also recommeds settig Last Frame Freeze to zero because Commad sets that time period. After the Video device service has bee cofigured, you must add device chaels ad chael groups i Commad. This ca be doe from a Commad Workstatio. To add device chaels ad chael groups for Omeo itegratio: 1. At a Commad Workstatio, click Tools > System Settigs. The System Settigs dialog box appears. 2. Expad Chael. 3. Select Device Chaels. 4. Click Add. 5. Eter the chael s ame. 6. Eter the device s ame. This ame must match the device ame that was etered durig cofiguratio of the Video device service. 7. For Device type, select Other Video. 53

The Add Device Chael dialog box closes. Repeat these steps to add more device chaels. 11. O the System Settigs dialog box, click Apply so that you ca add the ew device chaels to a chael group. 12. O the left side of the System Settigs dialog box, select Group. 13. Click Add to create the chael group. 14. Eter the ame of the chael group. 15. Click Add ad select the appropriate chael. Repeat as ecessary. 16. Click OK, ad the OK agai to save the settigs. 17. Create a stadaloe playlist, add items, ad test playout to cofirm fuctioality. With Omeo etwork cotrol, Commad users ca make subclips. The subclip feature will create a ew media item o the Omeo video server. It is ot a master clip with specific poiters. To create a subclip: 1. At a Commad Workstatio, ope a item i the Media Viewer. 2. Click the Subclip butto. 3. Give the subclip a ame ad click OK. It should appear i the Ivetory pael shortly. The Subclip butto will appear whe cotrollig other devices via the Video device service, but oly fuctios whe creatig subclips o a Omeo device. Cofigurig VDS for Harris Like Omeo, there is a third-party plug-i that ca be used for Commad itegratio with a Harris Nexio device. The Harris plug-i is distributed by the Harris Corporatio; users should cotact the Harris Corporatio for more iformatio. As with all third-party devices, users eed to purchase a 3P device chael for each chael that is goig to be cotrolled by Commad. For the plug-i to work, some cofiguratio is required, usig the Avid Service Cofiguratio applicatio of Avid Service Framework. The followig graphic shows sample settigs for the Avid Video device service with the Harris plug-i chose. 54

Cofigurig VDCP for Redudat Mirrored Playback Avid recommeds mirrored playback for users who wat redudat fuctioality for devices with VDCP cotrol. 58

59 Cofigurig the inews Commad Server To cofigure VDCP devices for redudat mirrored playback: 1. Istall ad cofigure the VDS that cotrols the primary device chaels of the primary Commad Server. 2. Istall ad cofigure the VDS that cotrols the mirrored device chaels o the backup server. The mirror VDS should use a differet device ame, such as device2, from the primary VDS. The mirror VDS will ru as a active primary service, eve though it s ruig o the backup server. Trasfer Status Ico 3. I the evet of a primary server failure, users should switch to mirror-oly playback. Commad ca show the trasfer status of items that are set to playback from Iterplay. Commad displays the trasfer status ico a orage arrow i the Ivetory pael to deote that the item is trasferrig. The trasfer status relies o the metadata (such as thumbail, slug, format, ad so forth) arrivig from Iterplay, ad whe it arrives, chages the status from the trasferrig arrow to the gree check mark. This itegratio requires the followig: Iterplay, usig the Sed to Playback feature. Cofigurig the Avid Iterplay Aget service to get metadata from Iterplay The trasfer status beig selected i the cofiguratio of the Avid Video device service. 59

60 1 Istallig ad Cofigurig the Commad Server To see the trasfer status ico, the user eeds to have the Ivetory pael ope ad the correct chael group selected at a Commad Workstatio. Selectig a differet chael group will iterrupt this process ad cause the trasfer status ico to chage to a gree check mark, eve if the trasfer has ot completed. There are a few situatios where the trasfer status will show false positive, meaig that it reports that the item is trasferrig whe it really is't. The remedy for these situatios is to choose a differet chael group ad the go back to the origial chael group, or close ad ope the Ivetory pael. Omeo subclips because subclips are ot set to playback; Iterplay does ot cotai metadata. Trasfers from oe Omeo to aother because items are ot set to playback; Iterplay does ot cotai metadata. Failed retrieval of the metadata from Iterplay. The Harris plug-i also has a Trasfer Status checkbox, but it works differetly. The Harris NXOS maages trasfer status without ivolvemet from Iterplay. Cofigurig Avid Iterplay Aget Services The Avid Iterplay Aget service is istalled at sites that wat to utilize thumbail images i Commad from video o AirSpeed video servers. It coects ad logs i to the Iterplay egie to retrieve thumbail images of AirSpeed media. It also works for the Video device service to collect more iformatio from Iterplay, so ay third party video devices with Iterplay systems will display thumbails, slugs (title), ad format iformatio i the Commad playlist. After the service is istalled o the Commad Server, some additioal cofiguratio is required, usig the Avid Service Cofiguratio applicatio of Avid Service Framework. For more iformatio, see the Avid Service Framework User s Guide. O systems with multiple Commad Servers, you must cofigure the Avid Iterplay Aget service o each of them. To cofigure the Iterplay Aget services: 1. Click the Start butto, ad the select All Programs > Avid > Service Framework > Avid Service Cofiguratio. 2. O the Hosts tab, avigate to ad select the Avid Iterplay Aget Service. 3. Whe prompted, eter the system admiistrator password ad click OK. Eter the device s ame exactly as it appears i the Avid Video device service. 8. I the Catalog field, eter the ame of the folder (iside the Catalogs folder) where items are beig trasferred to i Iterplay. This should match the playback catalog i the Avid Trasfer Egie. If the destiatio folder is more tha oe layer deep, use a forward slash (/) as the directory separator, such as omeocat/1a. You do ot eed to specify the Catalogs folder itself. If the playback catalog is ot already cofigured, it must be set up correctly via the Trafer Egie Cofiguratio applicatio, which rus o the Trasfer Egie Server. The procedure for this is provided ext. 9. Click OK. 10. Click Apply. You ca the close the Avid Service Cofiguratio applicatio. To cofigure the playback catalog o the Trasfer Egie Server: 1. Start the Trasfer Egie Cofiguratio applicatio. 2. I the Playback sectio, click Add. The Playback Device dialog box appears. 3. Select the Eable Playback Catalog Name check box ad, i the text field below that, eter the same destiatio folder used to cofigure the Iterplay Aget device service, such as omeocat/1a. 62

Cofigurig the Avid UMD Device Service The Avid inews Commad user iterface lets you cotrol Uder Moitor Display (UMD) or I Moitor Display (IMD) devices via the TSL UMD protocol, developed by Televisio Systems Limited, so that the clip s title, the coutdow timecode the oe showig the remaiig duratio ad the tally light for playig video ca be displayed o or ear the video moitor i the cotrol room. Without the Avid UMD device service ad Avid s TSL plug-i, the timecodes for playig video appear oly o the Commad Workstatio. I geeral, the device service commuicates through a third-party itermediate device, such as TallyMa maufactured by Televisio Systems Limited. With the TallyMa, oe cable is ru to the TallyMa ad other cables ru from it to each UMD. The Avid UMD device service, alog with Avid s TSL plug-i, is istalled from the Commad istallatio CD o the inews Commad Server. For more iformatio, see Istallig Avid inews Commad o the Server o page 40. After istallatio, additioal cofiguratio of the device service is required, usig the Avid Service Cofiguratio applicatio of Avid Service Framework. For more iformatio about this applicatio, see the Avid Service Framework User s Guide. Cofiguratio of the device service is covered i the followig procedure. To cofigure the Avid UMD device service(s): 1. Click the Start butto, ad the select All Programs > Avid > Service Framework > Avid Service Cofiguratio. 2. O the Hosts tab, avigate to ad select the Avid UMD Device Service. 3. Whe prompted, eter the system admiistrator password ad click OK. If you have ot yet created oe, leave the space blak ad click OK. Avid s TSL plug-i is preselected for you o the Plug-i Chooser tab. 4. O the Avid UMD Device Service Settigs tab, the Service Name should be set to a uique ame that represets the curret istace of the device service. By default, it first appears as Service Name. 5. The Show Duratio check box determies if the duratio of a clip is displayed whe a clip is cued. For 8-character displays, if Show Duratio is left uchecked, the clip s title or ID is displayed as determied i the step 6. If Show Duratio is selected, the istead of the clip s title or ID, the total clip duratio is show i a abbreviated timecode format (hh:mm:ss with o frames) whe a clip is cued. 63

So, if Show Duratio is left uchecked, the full 16 characters are used to display the clip s title or ID. If Show Duratio is selected, the a abbreviated timecode i the format mm:ss is show (or hh:mm:ss if eeded for clips loger tha a hour) alog with a shorteed versio of the clip s title or ID. The two are separated by oe space. 6. Select the Display Name. Optios are: Title or ID. If Title is chose, ad Show Duratio is ot selected, the the clip s title will be displayed whe a clip is cued. If ID is chose, ad Show Duratio is ot selected, the the clip s video ID will be displayed whe a clip is cued. Whe a clip title is displayed, oly the rightmost eight characters show up i a 8-character display, so if the clip s title is loger tha 8 characters it will be trucated. Geerally the rightmost characters will be more uique, makig it easier to idetify the clip. There is o idicatio whe a clip s title is trucated. For 16-character displays, the umber of characters is determied by whether the duratio is show ad the legth of that duratio. For istace, you could see 10 characters of either the clip s title or video ID followed by a space ad the duratio i a mm:ss format, as show i the followig example: p-politics 01:32 If the clip s duratio is loger tha a hour, the duratio will appear as hh:mm:ss, ad the clip s title or ID will be trucated to eight characters. 64

65 Cofigurig the inews Commad Server 7. For every uder moitor display you wat to operate, click Add UMD Device to add a ew row to the table from which you ca the edit the iformatio i each colum. Each device is assiged its ow device umber; that is, the Device colum is filled out automatically, startig with oe (1), ad is ot used i the service s cofiguratio. 8. The Chael Idex lets you associate a device with a device chael idex i Commad. Optios i this drop-dow list iclude umerical values of oe (1) through 16. The chael idex, which correspods to a playout chael, is set i Commad s System Settig dialog box uder the Chael > Idices category. You ca access that dialog box by clickig Tools > System Settigs. Four colums show i the previous graphic (Type, Hostame/IP, UMD Address, ad Tally) relate to the TSL plug-i. If a alterative third-party plug-i is used, what you see might vary. 9. Set the Type accordig to what kid of UMD device you are usig. The Type colum ca be set to oe of three optios: t Sigle 8 for 8-character display t Dual 8 Left for 16-character display, access leftmost 8 characters t Dual 8 Right for 16-character display, access rightmost 8 characters t Sigle 16 for 16-character display 10. The Hostame/IP colum is most commoly set to tallyma, but ca be a IP address istead of the device s hostame. The device service uses port 8900 by default; however, if a differet port eeds to be specified, you ca add it to the ed of the hostame, such as tallyma: The UMD address ca be set to umerical values of zero (0) through 126. Whe usig TallyMa, except for Dual 8 Left ad Dual 8 Right types, which share a address, each UMD device should have a uique address. If you do ot kow the UMD address for your device, uplug ad recoect the Etheret coectio. Watch the device s display; it will show its UMD address as Addr plus a umerical value, such as: Addr The Tally colum is a drop-dow list that relates to tally idicator cotrol for Commad. Its optios are: oe (1) through two (2). UMD devices ofte have two tally idicator lights. If set to oe, Commad will use the left light. If set to two, the right tally light is used. For TallyMa, however, you will have to choose which light to use whe you set up the TallyMa. 13. Click Apply. You ca the close the Avid Service Cofiguratio applicatio. You ca recofigure UMD devices without havig to restart the device service. 65

66 1 Istallig ad Cofigurig the Commad Server Cofigurig UMD for Redudacy The Avid UMD device service supports redudacy, but some cofiguratio is required. To cofigure for redudacy: 1. Cofigure both device services to have the same service ame, such as UMD1. 2. Restart the services. After the service ame is set, it should ot be ecessary to restart services for the remaiig chages to occur; clickig Apply is all that is ecessary. 3. Cofigure the remaiig fields o the primary service ad click Apply. 4. Make a bogus chage, such as addig a space after the host ame ad the removig it. 5. Click the Apply To butto ad check the backup device service. For Etheret cotrol ad redudacy to work, you must upgrade the Tallyma TM1 device s software to versio ad the cofigure it for Etheret cotrol. Please see Tallyma documetatio for more iformatio. Avid also recommeds the Tallyma device be i the same subet as the Commad Server, to miimize the possibility of lost packets. Cofigurig the Lookup Tab If settig up redudat systems that are i differet subets, you must add both server ames to the Lookup tab i Avid Workgroup Properties. The followig procedure should be completed o both the primary ad backup Commad Servers. To cofigure the Lookup tab: 1. Click the Start butto, ad the select All Programs > Avid > Service Framework > Avid Workgroup Properties. 2. O the Lookup tab, click the Add butto uder the Workgroup sectio. The Add Workgroup dialog box will ope o top of the Avid Workgroup Properties widow, as show: 66

It is ot the same as a redudat system, i which the backup server uses the same system ame as the primary server. I Commad, the system ame is umeric, such as 1, 2, 3, ad so forth. For a more meaigful ame, a system alias ca be cofigured, which appears i the status bar of the Commad user iterface. For more iformatio o system aliases, see the Avid inews Commad Admiistratio Guide. Multiple Avid inews Commad systems usually belog to the same workgroup. If two or more systems are i the same workgroup, each of the Commad systems must have a uique, umeric ame, which is assiged by Avid maufacturig. After istallig Commad o a computer that will be part of a secod system, you will eed to chage the system ame by editig the commadsystemame.xml file, which by default is istalled i the followig locatio: C:\Program Files\Avid\iNEWS Commad To chage the system ame: 1. A Mark Out poit is ot required, oly a Mark I timecode. To set the Mark I poit for a item that is recordig, it eeds to be added to a Commad playlist (via ENPS, inews, or a Stadaloe playlist). Oce there ad available, you ca double-click the item ad type the Mark I poit. If you wat to ope the item i the Media Viewer ad use the Jog to set the Mark I poit, you have to cofigure a Browse chael as part of the Commad playlist. It ca either be a Browse chael that is part of the Playback chael group such as, Chaels AB for playback ad C for browse or with Commad v2.6, you ca cofigure a Playback chael group (AB) ad a separate Browse-oly group (C). The Browse-oly chael group also eeds to be added to the playlist. To play while record o AMS: 1. Cofigure a AMS video server so that it has a record ad playback chael. Ope it with Notepad. 5. Add a lie i the ThuderMOS.cfg with the followig iformatio: - A arbitrary ame for the Thuder that the jouralists will easily recogize. This must be added to the MOS-Map story i the SYSTEM.MOS-MAP directory i inews. - The full UNC path to the Thuder database specified whe you set up the MOS protocol. This part appears ext to the drop-dow list i the plug-i (show below). Make sure it correspods to the Thuder specified by the MOS ID. May chael groups ca be created from the same pool of resources, ad differet groups ca use the same resources to serve differet operatioal eeds. Each chael group must cotai a sigle type of device. For istace, a chael group called AS is a groupig of chaels from two or more AirSpeed video servers, while a differet chael group amed CG is a groupig of chaels o a Deko character geerator. AirSpeed chaels provide oe of the best examples of the way i which chael groups provide cotrol cofiguratios; they do ot guaratee media availability, which is the role of the AirSpeed studio cofiguratio. For example, a statio has two AirSpeed video servers, each with two chaels that are umbered 2 ad 3. (With AirSpeed video servers, the first chael is reserved for igest.) Let s call the first AirSpeed AS1 ad the secod AS2. 161 Settig up Chael Groups The followig graphic shows a more visual example of how multiple chael groups ca be created from the same four AirSpeed video server chaels. The first group shows a sigle chael group cofigured to create four playback chaels called A, B, C, ad D. The ext set shows two groups, represetig cotrol rooms, with two playback chaels each. Alteratively, the groups ca be created from ay combiatio of chaels ad used to support simultaeous two-chael playout from two cotrol rooms sharig the same resources. The last set shows four chael groups, each cotrollig a sigle chael. The followig graphic shows a more visual example of how chael groups are used to mirror playout for redudacy. The first group creates a two chael playout solutio with both chaels mirrored o a secodary video server for maximum reliability. Wheever a video clip is cued ad played o either of the primary chaels, the same clip is also cued ad played o the correspodig mirror chaels. Templates ca be grouped together to form a style, such as a set of graphics desiged for a specific show. You ca create a ew template, copy a existig template, or delete templates from the ivetory. Although you ca also add or remove templates from a style, you must do that o the Styles tab. 189 Cofigurig the Graphic Ivetory Editor To create a ew template: 1. Click the New butto at the bottom of the Templates tab. A ew blak row will appear i the list of templates. 2. Type the ame of the ew template i the Name colum. 3. Fill i the address iformatio for the template. For Chyro itegratio, the address must match the address of the template o the Chyro. 4. Set the field cout to a umerical value. This umber must match the umber of replaceable fields i the graphic. 5. Set the Play cout to a umerical value. This umber must match the umber of triggers i the item that is the umber of times a operator must press Play to get through all of the effects i the template. 6. Select the check box i the Persistet colum if the template is oe that will remai oscree while other graphics are played ad ejected. A example of a persistet template is a LIVE graphic that remais oscree durig a live broadcast while other locatio or ame graphics are also aired as lower-thirds. 7. (Optioal) Type a meaigful descriptio of what the template is used for, such as: Lower-third Locatio with two fields. 8. Click Save. To copy a template: 1. Select a template from the list of templates o the Templates tab. 2. Click Copy. 3. Click i the Name ad Address fields to reame the copy. 4. (Optioal) Modify the other fields associated with the copied template as eeded. 5. Click Save. To delete a template: 1. Select a template from the list of templates o the Templates tab. 2. Click Delete If deletig a template that has already bee assiged to a style, a warig will appear to otify you of the assigmet ad cofirm the deletio. If cofirmed, the template is deleted from the ivetory as well as the style. However, to clarify, deletig a template i the GIE applicatio does ot remove the correspodig file from the Chyro graphics device. 189

(Optioal) Add or remove templates from the copied style as eeded. 5. Click Save. To delete a style: 1. Select a style from the list of styles o the Styles tab. 2. Click Delete. Deletig a style i the GIE does ot remove aythig from the actual graphics device. It deletes the style from the ivetory (located i the root directory o the PC) tha Commad uses to cotrol the device. After you have created all of the styles, you eed to defie them i Commad. To add styles to a Commad Workstatio: 1. Select Tools > System Settigs. 2. Select Playlist. 3. This is by desig ad is differet from CotrolAir, where the page umbers were writte whe the show was loaded. If a ew graphic is created i the GIE, the ew graphic will ot show up util after the moitor server for the show is tured off ad back o i inews. Cofigurig Commad for Chyro Itegratio Some additioal cofiguratio is required to eable Chyro itegratio with Commad via the Graphic device service part of which is doe at a Commad Workstatio, ad part of which must be doe o the Chyro device itself, usig the Lyric software. Superusers are also permitted to start moitor servers. Moitor duratio or quit time. A duratio will automatically switch off the moitor server after the allotted time is achieved. For istace, D200 sigifies the duratio set to two hours, ad o miutes. (This settig is ot case sesitive.) A quit time, such as 2100, will automatically switch off the moitor server at the specified time, esurig the itegrity of the system. The moitor server loads data to the inews Commad system or the MOS Gateway system whe a user istructs it to do so from a inews Workstatio. Creatig a Moitor Server for Each Show The procedures i this sectio assumes the user has a workig kowledge of admiistratio tasks associated with a Avid inews system ad that rudow queues for the shows beig moitored already exist i inews. To create ad cofigure a moitor server: 1. Check the cofiguratio file (/site/cofig) ad choose the ext available device umber for the moitor server, from the rage of 3-digit umbers reserved for use by your system s server programs, such as 201 to 300. MOS (Media Object Server) is a idustry-stadard, XML-based protocol that is primarily used by a ewsroom computer system (NRCS) to maitai ruig orders o a video server. MOS also eables servers to update the ewsroom computer system with chages to the server s media ivetory. Commad s MOS support eables commuicatio betwee the ewsroom computer system ad AirSpeed video servers, as show i the followig illustratio. MOS does ot provide a meas of cotrollig playout from a video server. Commad supplies this fuctio. To cofirm that the Avid inews Commad system is seeig ivetory correctly: 1. Start the Commad cliet applicatio. 2. If the Ivetory pael is ot already ope, select View > Ivetory. 3. Click the dow arrow (idicated i the graphic) ad select a chael group from the list. The Ivetory pael shows the ivetory (media) for a selected chael group i a table or spreadsheet-style format. You ca see the media s availability, clip ID, ame (slug), duratio, ad the time whe it was last modified. A user ca select a differet chael group usig the drop-dow arrow i the top right corer of the pael. Whe a user selects a item i the ivetory, further details become available for viewig at the bottom of the pael. For basic user iformatio o Avid inews, inews Commad, or other itegrated Avid products, see the User s Guides ad help systems that accompay each product. To test workflow: 1. Create a inews rudow with stories that cotai graphic ad video evets. a. If you use had-etered machie cotrol evets, test that by eterig some ito ew ad existig stories. b. If you are usig a plug-i, such as Avid Deko Select or Avid Thuder Select, ope the plug-i ad test it as well by usig it to isert evets ito stories. 2. Load the rudow. (For Avid inews, this meas to tur o ad load the moitor server.) 3. At a Commad Workstatio, start the Commad cliet applicatio. 4. Cofirm that the ewsroom playlist associated with that rudow appears i the Playlist Explorer. 5. Ope the playlist. 6. Lock all chael groups. 7. Play video ad graphic evets.
