1 1 AirSpeed Multi Stream H.264 Optio Kit Istallatio Guide (For Models Built Before 4/10) This guide provides iformatio o how to istall the AirSpeed Multi Stream H.264 Optio Kit ( ) to upgrade primarily AirSpeed Multi Stream MPEG-2 HD model uits maufactured before April These early MPEG-2 HD models do ot have the USB cable plugged i to the motherboard, ad require you to remove the leftmost VIO board before pluggig the supplied USB cable ito the motherboard. The other ed of the USB cable the must be plugged ito the H.264 board. For pre-productio uits that cotai oly a sigle VIO (such as SD ad DNxHD models), while you do ot eed to remove the VIO, you might eed to order a Y Boot Drive power cable before performig the H.264 upgrade. If your AirSpeed Multi Stream is a pre-productio uit, there is a chace that early MPEG-2 HD models, as well as pre-productio sigle VIO (SD ad DNxHD) models, might ot have the Y Boot Drive power cable istalled. Sice it is ecessary to have the Y Boot Drive power cable istalled to perform this upgrade, you should check your system for this cable before performig the H.264 upgrade. Oce you have istalled the H.264 optio, you should refer to the AirSpeed Multi Stream Rack Mout ad Cablig Guide for iformatio o how to rack mout the system, ad cable it up. After istallig this optio kit, i order for H.264 proxy to work, you must esure that your AirSpeed Multi Stream applicatio software is at least versio 1.7 so that it supports the H.264 fuctioality ad hardware. If you do ot have versio 1.7, you must upgrade the software. Importat: Search the Avid Kowledge Base for the most up-to-date ReadMe file, or other user documetatio, which cotais the latest iformatio that might have become available after the documetatio was published. c The ReadMe describes compatibility issues with previous releases, hardware ad software requiremets, software istallatio istructios, ad summary iformatio o system ad memory requiremets. The ReadMe also lists hardware ad software limitatios. ReadMe files are ot i the box. They ca be foud o the Dowload Ceter or the Kowledge Base as a PDF documet (ReadMe.pdf). You should always check olie for the most up-to-date release otes or ReadMe because the olie versio is updated wheever ew iformatio becomes available. Upackig ad Ispectig the H.264 Upgrade Kit This topic provides iformatio o how to upack your H.264 Optio kit ad ispect it to verify that the compoets are ot damaged i ay way. To complete the upgrade process, you also eed to reistall the AirSpeed Multi Stream applicatio software (ot icluded i the kit). You must have a copy of the software available to complete the upgrade. Oce the software is reistalled, you must the use the Hardware Diagostics applicatio (located i C:\Program Files > Avid > Avid AirSpeed Multi Stream> Utilities > Diagostics) to cofirm the hardware was istalled correctly. 2

3 Upackig ad Ispectig the H.264 Upgrade Kit Upack ad Ispect Checklist The followig table provides a checklist of tasks that must be performed whe upackig ad ispectig your AirSpeed Multi Stream H.264 Optio kit. Upack your H.264 Optio kit, as described i Upackig the H.264 Optio Kit o page 3. Verify that you have all of the correct boxes ad compoets, as described i Verifyig Compoets o page 4. Verify that the compoets are ot damaged, as described i Ispectig Compoets for Damage o page 4. Upackig the H.264 Optio Kit Before you upack your H.264 Optio kit ( ), make sure the locatio is free of clutter ad dust. To upack your H.264 Optio kit: 1. Ope the box. 2. Upack the compoets. Avid recommeds that you keep all packagig materials for at least 90 days. If you eed to retur a system to Avid Techology, Ic., the system must be repackaged i its origial packagig material to esure that there is o damage to the system durig shipmet. 3. Oce the items have bee upacked, visually ispect them to make sure that they do ot appear to be damaged i ay way. 4. Ispectig Compoets for Damage Oce you have verified that all of your compoets have bee shipped, you must also verify that they are ot damaged. To ispect compoets for damage: 1. Visually ispect all of the hardware compoets listed i the sectio o the previous page to make sure that oe of them were damaged durig shipmet. 2. If you receive a hardware compoet that is damaged, cotact Avid Techical Support. 4

5 Performig the H.264 Optio Istallatio Performig the H.264 Optio Istallatio Oce you have ispected your ew upgrade compoets, you ca istall the H.264 optio kit. It is also importat that you have the correct tools available before you begi the process. For more iformatio, see Tools Required o page 5. Whe performig the upgrade, you must use the H.264 Optio Istallatio checklist. It cotais a high level process of the tasks ivolved i performig the upgrade, as well as cross-refereces to each associated procedure. For more iformatio o the process, see H.264 Optio Istallatio Checklist o page 6. Tools Required The followig tools are required to perform the AirSpeed Multi Stream H.264 optio kit istallatio. You must supply these tools yourself. #1 Phillips screwdriver (magetic tip preferred) 3/16 thi well ut driver 9/16 deep well ut driver Bomar hex shaft wrech (Part Number BD36400) The BOMAR hex shaft wrech is used to remove ad replace the Bomar kurled (roud) uts ( ) 5

7 Performig the H.264 Optio Istallatio Upluggig the Cables Oce you have ispected the ew parts for damage, you must ext uplug the cables from the rear of the chassis. All cables, icludig the followig must be uplugged from the rear of the chassis: SDI ad Video Referece cables LTC I cables USB cables Etheret cables Expasio port cables Remote serial cables Cosole cables VGA cables Power cords Oce the cables are removed, you should decide if you wat to remove the media drives from the chassis. For more iformatio, see (Optioal) Removig the Media Drives o page 7. (Optioal) Removig the Media Drives Oce you have uplugged the cables from the rear of the AirSpeed Multi Stream chassis, you must ext determie whether you wat to remove the four media drives from the frot of the chassis. This procedure is optioal depedig o whether you feel that you ca lift the uit from the chassis. The media drives add about 6 pouds to the weight of the chassis (48 pouds with the drives), ad removig it from the rack might result i the chassis droppig ito the rack. If you decide to leave the media drives i the chassis, proceed to the topic Removig the AirSpeed Multi Stream Chassis from the Rack o page 8. To remove the media drives from the chassis: 1. Prior to removig the drives, idetify each media drive by affixig a small label o each media drive s hadle ad umberig them, from left to right, 1, 2, 3 ad 4. These drives will eed to be replaced i that exact drive slot order as they were removed from. 2. Pull the plastic hadle (with drive size label) ope, to ulock the drive from the slot. 7

Repeat steps 2 through 3 util all media drives are removed from the chassis. Oce the drives are removed, you ca remove the AirSpeed Multi Stream from the rack. Removig the AirSpeed Multi Stream Chassis from the Rack All Avid AirSpeed Multi Stream rack-mout compoets are supplied with rear mout rack supports (brackets). These ca be left i the rack. You should have someoe helpig you lift the AirSpeed Multi Stream whe removig it from the rack. To remove the AirSpeed Multi Stream chassis from the rack: 1. Remove the rack ear covers o the rack ear clips. If the frot bezel is istalled o the frot of your chassis, you ca leave it o. 8

Lift the chassis ad slide it off of the rear brackets. 4. Place the chassis i the locatio where you are goig to perform the H.264 upgrade. Removig the Top of the Case ad Checkig Your Cables Oce you have ispected the ew parts, uplugged all cables, removed the drives, ad removed the chassis from the rack, you are ready to remove the top of the case ad check to see if you have the correct cables. The illustratios i this sectio depict a MPEG-2 HD model AirSpeed Multi Stream. To remove the top of the case: 1. Usig a #1 Phillips screwdriver, remove the eight (8) screws from the top of the case. Do ot lose these screws. You will eed them later. Keep them i a cup or dish so that they do ot get lost! 2. Getly slide the top of the case to the rear of the chassis. 3. Place it aside. 4. Look iside the chassis to determie if you have the Y Boot Drive power cable, ad that you have the USB cable plugged ito the motherboard. You eed both of these cables to attach to the H.264 card. 9

10 1 AirSpeed Multi Stream H.264 Optio Kit Istallatio Guide (For Models Built Before 4/10) To determie if you have the correct cables i your AirSpeed Multi Stream, do the followig: - Determie if you already have a Y Boot Drive power cable ( ) attached to the power supply. If you have the Y Boot Drive Power cable, you will see the white drive coector hagig ear the Boot drive as show below: Some systems might have origially shipped with a straight (o Y) Boot Drive power cable ( Rev01). If you do ot have a Y Boot Drive power cable attached to the power supply, this meas you most likely have a pre-productio uit. Cotact Avid Techical Support to order a Y Boot Drive power cable ( )) before proceedig with the H.264 card istallatio. 10

11 Performig the H.264 Optio Istallatio - Determie if you have the correct USB cable plugged i to the motherboard. If you have the correct oe, it would look like this (black 9-pi cable pictured below): 5. If the AirSpeed Multi Stream you are upgradig is a: t t MPEG-2 HD model, you eed to remove the VIO closest to the Power supply i order to replace either or both of these cables with the ew versio(s). The correct USB cable is supplied i the H.264 kit. The Y Boot Drive power cable is ot. To remove the VIO, you must ext remove the I/O backplate from the chassis. For more iformatio, see Removig the I/O Backplate o page 11 SD or DNxHD model, you do ot eed to remove the I/O backplate, or the VIO. You ca just istall the H.264 card. For more iformatio, see Istallig the H.264 Card o page 15. Removig the I/O Backplate I order to remove the VIO, we strogly recommed that you first remove the I/O backplate from the chassis. Eve though it is possible to remove the VIO board without removig the I/O backplate, it is highly recommeded that you remove the I/O backplate because there is a chace that you could bed oe of the BNC coectors o the VIO board. Oce you have removed the top of the case, you must remove the I/O backplate from the rear of the chassis. This eables you to remove the VIO that is closest to the power supply. Usig a 3/16 thi well ut driver, remove the four (4) D-sub screws from the back of the chassis as show i the followig illustratio. Remove the four (4) D-sub screws EXPANSION PORT 1 EXPANSION PORT IN OUT 1 2 IN OUT CONSOLE REF IN/THRU LTC IN/THRU VGA SERIAL ETHERNET USB 2. Do the followig as show i the followig illustratio. a. If your uit has hex uts, use a 9/16 deep well ut driver to loose ad remove the hex uts ( ), ad their lock washers ( ) from the SDI iput ad output BNC coectors. b. Use the special Bomar hex shaft wrech to remove the kurled uts ( ), ad their lock washers ( ) from each REF ad LTC BNC coector. Some uits shipped with oly Bomar kurled uts. If your uit does ot have hex uts, use the Bomar hex shaft to remove the kurled uts ad their lock washers from all BNC coectors. Remove the hex uts, kurled uts, ad lock washers over each BNC coector (12 total) EXPANSION PORT 1 EXPANSION PORT IN OUT 1 2 IN OUT CONSOLE REF IN/THRU LTC IN/THRU VGA SERIAL ETHERNET USB Remove 4 lock washers ad 4 kurled uts to this bak of BNC coectors 12

13 Performig the H.264 Optio Istallatio 3. Remove the three (3) screws o the bottom of the chassis backplate ad the oe (1) screw o the right side of the chassis as depicted i the followig illustratio. Do ot lose these screws. Keep them i a cup or dish so they do ot get lost! EXPANSION PORT 1 EXPANSION PORT IN OUT 1 2 IN OUT CONSOLE REF IN/THRU LTC IN/THRU VGA SERIAL ETHERNET USB Remove the four (4) chassis backplate screws 4. Remove the I/O backplate by carefully guidig the backplate off of the BNC coectors. 5. The ext step is to remove the existig VIO card from the chassis. (Optioal) Removig a VIO Card from the Chassis For all AirSpeed Multi Stream MPEG-2 HD models sold before April 2010, istallatio of the H.264 card requires the removal of a VIO board (the leftmost oe if lookig from the back of the chassis). This is to eable you to attach the USB cable. Also, there is a slight chace that pre-productio MPEG-2 HD models, as well as SD ad DNxHD models, might ot have the correct (Y) Power cable istalled. However, for SD ad DNxHD models, you do ot eed to remove a VIO sice the locatio o the motherboard is accessible for these sigle VIO models. Usig a #1 Phillips screw driver, remove the four (4) screws that attach the VIO card to the chassis as show i the followig illustratio. You eed to remove the VIO card o the left whe lookig at the rear of the chassis. The VIO card o the left covers the power supply which is what you eed to attach the H.264 card to. Remove the four (4) 6-32 x 5/16 screws from this VIO 2. Very getly, rock ad lift the card straight up i order to release it from the chassis. 3. Place the VIO card aside. 4. 15 Performig the H.264 Optio Istallatio Istallig the H.264 Card This procedure cotais iformatio o how to istall the H.264 card ito the chassis. To istall the H.264 card: 1. Lie up the H.264 card with the stadoffs, ad use the four 6-32X5 screws ( ) to attach the H.264 card to the four stadoffs. Make sure you tighte the H.264 card to the stadoffs o the power supply cover plate. 2. Do the followig: t t If you already have a Y Boot Drive power cable attached to the power supply as described i Removig the Top of the Case ad Checkig Your Cables o page 9, go to Step 4. If you do ot have a Y Boot Drive power cable attached to the power supply, you should have cotacted Avid Techical Support ad obtaied a Y Boot Drive power cable ( ). If you have received the Y Boot Drive power cable, go to Step 3. 15

Remove the straight Boot Drive power cable from the motherboard ad Boot Drive, ad coect the Y Boot Drive power cable ( ) by doig the followig: a. Cut the zip tie to separate the power cable from the SATA cable. b. Discoect the old existig Boot Drive power cable from Slot J39 o the motherboard ad from the boot drive. c. Coect the Y Boot Drive power cable ( ) by pluggig the male side ito Slot J39 o the motherboard (middle coector). 16

17 Performig the H.264 Optio Istallatio d. Plug the black power coector ito the Boot drive. e. Plug the white power coector of the Y Boot Drive cable to the white 4-pi coector o the ed of the H.264 board as show i the followig illustratio: 17

Plug either ed of the USB cable (black 9-pi keyed coector) ito Slot J40 o the motherboard. Make sure the missig pi i the coector lies up to the correct side of the coectio o the motherboard. 18

19 Performig the H.264 Optio Istallatio b. Plug the other ed of the USB cable ito the black 9-pi coectio o the H.264 board ( ). The USB coector is keyed ad must be iserted the correct way, or it will ot fit. Do ot force it ito the slots. 5. Route the cables aroud both sides of the H.264 board ad through the otch so that the cables do ot sit o top of the H.264 board ad ca be pushed beeath the VIO board ad remai below where the top of the case will rest whe it is replaced. 6. If you have removed a VIO to perform this procedure, you must ow reistall the VIO ito your MPEG-2 HD chassis. For more iformatio see (Optioal) Reistallig the VIO Card i the Chassis o page 20. 20 1 AirSpeed Multi Stream H.264 Optio Kit Istallatio Guide (For Models Built Before 4/10) (Optioal) Reistallig the VIO Card i the Chassis After attachig the H.264 board to the chassis, for MPEG-2 HD models, you must ow re-istall the VIO card i the chassis. To reistall the VIO card: 1. Locate the four ylo set screws ( ). We have added these to the kit to help you to temporarily alig the VIO cards with Codec modules ( ). To use these, do the followig: a. Screw a ylo set screw ( ) three or four turs ito each of the four stadoffs, as show i the followig illustratio: Istall the four (4) 1/2 ylo set screws to this VIO b. Positio the VIO card over the stadoffs, ad alig the two frot VIO screw holes over the ylo set screws. c. Alig the two middle VIO screw holes over the ylo set screws. Verify that the coectors P5 ad P6 o the uderside of the VIO cards are aliged with their correspodig riser cards. Make sure wires are ot trapped betwee the VIO cards ad the stadoff. 20

21 Performig the H.264 Optio Istallatio d. Push the VIO dow util the coector fully mates. e. Remove the four ylo set screws. 2. Faste the VIO card to four (4) stadoffs with four (4) 6-32 x 5/16 screws ( ). Refer to the followig illustratio. Istall the four (4) 1/2 ylo set screws to this VIO 3. (Optioal) Replacig the I/O Backplate Oce you have fiished istallig the VIO card, you are ready to replace the I/O backplate ito the AirSpeed Multi Stream MPEG-2 HD model chassis. You eed to perform this procedure oly if you have removed a VIO card ad I/O backplate from the chassis. 21

Attach the I/O backplate to the rear of the chassis by carefully guidig the backplate over the BNC coectors. 2. Attach the three (3) screws o the bottom of the chassis backplate ad the oe (1) screw o the right side of the chassis as depicted i the followig illustratio: EXPANSION PORT 1 EXPANSION PORT IN OUT 1 2 IN 5 6 OUT CONSOLE REF IN/THRU LTC IN/THRU VGA SERIAL ETHERNET USB Attach the four (4) chassis backplate screws 3. Do the followig as show i the followig illustratio. a. Use a special Bomar hex shaft wrech (BD36400) to faste ad tighte the kurled uts ( ), ad their lock washers ( ) over each REF ad LTC BNC coector. b. If your uit has hex uts, use a 9/16 deep well ut driver to faste ad tighte the hex uts ( ), ad their lock washers ( ) to the SDI iput ad output BNC coectors. Some uits shipped with oly Bomar kurled uts. If your uit does ot have hex uts, use the Bomar hex shaft to reistall the kurled uts ad their lock washers from all BNC coectors. Attach 12 lock washers ad 12 hex uts to this bak of BNC coectors EXPANSION PORT 1 EXPANSION PORT IN OUT 1 2 IN 5 6 OUT CONSOLE REF IN/THRU LTC IN/THRU VGA SERIAL ETHERNET USB Attach 4 lock washers ad 4 kurled uts to this bak of BNC coectors 22

23 Performig the H.264 Optio Istallatio 4. Faste the four (4) D-sub screws to the back of the chassis as show i the followig illustratio. Attach the four (4) D-sub screws EXPANSION PORT 1 EXPANSION PORT IN OUT 1 2 IN 5 6 OUT CONSOLE REF IN/THRU LTC IN/THRU VGA SERIAL ETHERNET USB 5. Oce the chassis has bee restored to the rack, the ext step is to replace the top of the case. For more iformatio, see (Optioal) Re-Isertig the Media Drives ito the Chassis o page 24. Replacig the Top of the Case Oce you have fiished istallig the H.264 board, ad you have optioally replaced the VIO card ito the chassis, ad I/O backplate for MPEG-2 HD models, you ca replace the top of the case. To replace the top of the case: 1. Getly lift the top of the case ad slide it oto the chassis. 2. Faste the eight (8) case screws to the top of the case. 23

To re-isert the Media drives ito the chassis: 1. Isert the media drives ito the chassis usig the same slots from which they were removed. Make sure that the left-most slot receives the drive previously labeled as 1, the secod slot from the left receives the drive labeled 2, the third slot from the left receives the drive labeled 3 ad the far right slot receives the drive labeled Pull ope the plastic hadle (with drive size label) o the frot of the drive. 24
