1 Avid MetaFuze v2.5 ReadMe Avid recommeds that you read all the iformatio i this documet before istallig ad usig Avid MetaFuze. New Features i v2.5 The followig features have bee implemeted i this versio of MetaFuze: Itegratio of RED SDK v3.1 ito MetaFuze The RED SDK v3.1 has bee itegrated ito MetaFuze to provide the latest updates from RED. This icludes ew Lift, Gamma, ad Gai settigs that ca be imported via the RMD files. RED Color Sciece 2 Support The RED Import dialog box ow has ew parameters to reflect the color sciece ehacemets from RED. Refer to Settig RED Trascode Optios ad Importig Image Settigs i the Avid MetaFuze User Guide for a explaatio of how to apply the appropriate color sciece to your files. RED Rocket Card Detectio Metafuze ow detects ad idicates the istallatio of the Red Rocket accelerator card i the title bar of the mai widow (i.e. Avid MetaFuze with RED Rocket). Better TIFF File Support Improved support for TIFF files icludes: 32-bit iteger RGB ad greyscale media Separated RGB-chael cofiguratio Support for all TIFF-file flavors.

2 New Output Video Formats The followig video formats ca ow be output: 720/1080p 29.97, 30, 50, 59.94, 60 fps 1080i 50, 59.94, 60 fps Output Presets The video format, bit depth, color space, compressio, coversio mode ad output file type formats have bee removed from the Details view ad regrouped as Output Presets. These output presets have defaults for each video format ad ca be customized ad shared betwee MetaFuze workstatios. Refer to the MetaFuze User s Guide for more details. Trascode to Avid DS.GEN Format If you ited to edit i Avid DS, you ca trascode directly to Avid DS.ge format. You ca the lik to the.ge media to create a master clip i Avid DS ad get immediate, real-time playback. (All.ge files should be placed i the \VideoStorage or \MediaStorage folder.) Support for.hdr Files High Dyamic Rage (.HDR) files built by 3D rederig applicatios or other HDR applicatios ca be read ad trascoded by MetaFuze. Other Ehacemets Audio trascodes for Stereo groups. The audio from the Left eye (group) is used. Faster trascodig of Stereo groups. Faster trascodig of audio to MXF. Improvemets to the Bur-i Editor (larger colum widths ad other bug fixes). The Script Output Folder for batch scripts is preserved as part of the global settigs. The last selected locatio is recalled whe you ope the XML batch script dialog. Performace improvemets to the overall MetaFuze applicatio. Kow Limitatios Before you istall MetaFuze v2.5.x, make sure that you uistall ay previous versios. ALEs geerated by MetaFuze are ot curretly supported i Avid DS. QuickTime Crash whe Scaig RED Files You may ecouter a crash whe scaig RED files ecoded by QuickTime. Whe scaig folders that have R3D files, please use the Sca Folders dialog File Types optio, ad exclusively select the R3D file type. 2

3 Istallig Avid MetaFuze Relikig to Audio MXF via a ALE i Media Composer Relikig to Audio MXFs through the ALE will fail i a Media Composer film-based project. Workaroud: Use the Mediatool to import masterclips ito the Bi. Media that resides o Uity Storage may ot Trascode Media stored o a Avid Uity storage may cause MetaFuze to fail durig trascodig. Workaroud: Set the umber of Remote processig threads to 2 usig Optios > Trascode Cofiguratio. Istallig Avid MetaFuze Avid MetaFuze rus o Microsoft Widows 7, Widows XP, Liux ad Macitosh operatig systems. Microsoft Vista is ot supported at this time. MetaFuze has bee tested with Wie (a Ope Source implemetatio of the Widows API o top of Liux). MetaFuze ca be istalled o a basic system with a dual-core processor ad at least 2 GB RAM. Refer to the appropriate sectios below for details o the Widows, Macitosh, or Liux istallatio process. Istallig MetaFuze o Microsoft Widows If you have istalled a previous versio of MetaFuze, you MUST first remove it before istallig the latest versio. MetaFuze project files from previous versios are ot compatible with this versio of MetaFuze. To uistall MetaFuze: 1. Click the Widows Start butto ad the select the Cotrol Pael. 2. Double-click Add or Remove Programs. 3. Select Avid MetaFuze ad click the Chage butto. 4. Follow the olie istructios to remove MetaFuze. To istall MetaFuze: 1. Double-click the Setup.exe. 2. If prompted, click Yes to istall Microsoft VC redistributable compoet. 3

4 After the rutime compoets have bee istalled, you are prompted to begi the MetaFuze istallatio. 3. Durig the MetaFuze istallatio, a DOS commad box opes. Wait util this process is complete ad the click Fiish whe prompted. To start MetaFuze: t Click the Start butto ad the select Avid > Avid MetaFuze > Avid MetaFuze. Istallig MetaFuze o Macitosh You will eed to istall VMware Fusio o the Mac ad the ru Widows. Oce you are i the Widows eviromet, see Istallig MetaFuze o Microsoft Widows. Istallig MetaFuze o Liux MetaFuze has bee tested o the Red Hat Eterprise Liux Cliet v5.1 usig the Wie API, however it has bee reported to ru o other Liux platforms. w Wie is a compatibility layer for ruig Widows programs. It is a free software ad eeds to be istalled o top of the Liux operatig system. WARNING! Istallig MetaFuze uder Liux is for users who are familiar with Liux istallatios, the Liux shell ad that have access to the root password o their system. We recommed that the istallatio be doe by a system admiistrator. To check the versio of the Red Hat Liux cliet that you have: 1. I a Liux shell, type the followig: less /etc/redhat-release The output will display somethig like: Red Hat Eterprise Liux Cliet release 5.1 (Tikaga) 2. To verify kerel versio you have, type: uame -a The kerel iformatio will display as: Liux el5 #1 SMP Wed Ja 16 03:56:43 EST 2008 i686 athlo i386 GNU/Liux Note: Some users have successfully used MetaFuze o Ubutu 7.04 (Feisty Faw) ad 8.04 (Hardy Hero) which use the GNOME-Nautilus desktop. O these platforms, the user iterface resposiveess was better if: 4

5 Istallig Avid MetaFuze - NVidia drivers were istalled ad i use. - No special desktop effects were eabled or custom widow decorator (i.e. CompizFusio, formerly kow as Beryl ad the Emerald widow decorator). To istall Wie: 1. Go to the Wie web site ( ad dowload Wie or higher. 2. Use the followig source istall script to build ad istall wie. $WINE_INSTALL_DIR/tools/wieistall where $WINE_INSTALL_DIR refers to where wie biaries are istalled. This is usually uder /usr/local/bi. You will eed to be root to istall i a system directory. 3. I Wie, you will eed to set the Widows versio to XP. Notes: - Wie is always executed as a regular user, ever as root. - Directory $HOME/.wie will cotai all the Wie data icludig system registry settigs. $HOME refers to the curret user home directory; i.e. "~/.". It is equivalet to a virtual widows istallatio. - The $HOME/.wie directory will be created the first time a user rus a Wie program. If you ever remove $HOME/.wie, it will remove MetaFuze ad other applicatios that were previously istalled uder Wie. To istall MetaFuze: 1. Ru the MetaFuze setup program uder Wie as this will istall the VC8 rutime ad MetaFuze biaries. To do this, you will eed to copy the MetaFuze setup to a local Liux partitio ad execute the followig: wie setup.exe 2. Istall MetaFuze i the default destiatio folder: C:\Program Files\Avid\MetaFuze. Durig the istall, you will receive Wie warigs i the shell. Disregard these messages ad proceed with the istall. 3. Oce the istall is complete, you will eed to ru a script to register the Wie DLLs. Go to the MetaFuze directory: cd $HOME/.wie/drive_c/Program Files/Avid/MetaFuze 4. Ope a wie commad prompt: wie cmd 5

6 5. Ru the DLL registratio script: RegisterMetaFuze.cmd You will see the output from the registratio process. 6. To exit from Wie's commad prompt: exit 7. You must set a eviromet variable to disable spurious loggig from Wie: export WINEDEBUG=fixme-all This is strogly suggested as it will speed up executio sigificatly. To start MetaFuze: t Do oe of the followig: - If you are usig RedHat 5, select Applicatios > Wie > Programs > Avid > Avid MetaFuze. - From a Liux shell, type: cd $HOME/.wie/drive_c/Program Files/Avid/MetaFuze wie MetaFuzeApp.exe To ru MetaFuze i batch mode: t Type: wie MetaFuze.exe batch.xml Istallig the NVidia Graphics Card Driver o a Liux Workstatio If your Liux workstatio has a NVidia graphics card, you will eed to istall the Liux driver for it. To istall the NVidia Drivers: 1. Dowload the Liux driver from 2. To istall ad compile the NVidia driver, you eed to be ruig as root uder rulevel 3. Type: iit 3 The istaller script will also update your /etc/x11/xorg.cof file. 3. From a Liux shell, ru the followig script: NVIDIA-Liux-x pkg1.ru. 6
