5 2 Connectng Label Prnter to Computer Choose from the followng optons for connectng a computer to the label prnter: Drect connecton to the Ethernet nterface (4) 2.1 on page 5. Connecton va a computer network to the Ethernet nterface (4) 2.1 on page 5. Drect connecton to the hgh-speed USB slave nterface (3) 2.2 on page 6. Connecton va optonal RS-232 nterface adapter connected to an USB master nterface (2). Connecton to a wreless network va optonal WLAN adapter connected to an USB master nterface (2). Connecton va optonal Bluetooth adapter connected to an USB master nterface (2) Power swtch 2 USB master nterfaces for keyboard, scanner, memory stck or servce key 3 USB hgh-speed slave nterface 4 Ethernet 10/100 Base-T 5 Power connecton jack Fg. 1 Connectons 2.1 Connectng Label Prnter va Ethernet Interface! To connect the label prnter to a network jack, a patch cable wth an RJ45 plug for 10 Base T or 100 Base T s requred. For drect connecton of the prnter to the Ethernet card of a local computer, use an approprate crossover cable. Attenton! Use a shelded cable to connect the prnter to the network. 1. Connect computer and label prnter wth a sutable cable. 2. Make basc settngs for operaton of the Ethernet nterface on page Call up the prnter web nterface on page Open the "Setup" tab on the prnter web nterface. 5. Set the parameters descrbed n Tab "Setup" on page 19 n the path Setup > Interfaces > Network. Notce! For changng parameter settngs user name and password must be entered page 20. User name : admn Password (Default) : admn! 6. Set up prnt servce f necessary on page Adjust Wndows prnter settng on page 6. Attenton! Do not change the settngs of the "IP" and "Gateway" on the prnter web nterface, as otherwse the connecton to the prnter may be lost.

6 6 2 Connectng Label Prnter to Computer Prnt Servces Raw-IP and LPR/LPD n MS Wndows Install a standard TCP/IP port as addtonal port for prntng. Durng nstallaton of the new port choose between "Raw" and "LPR" Raw-IP: Enter the same port address n the prnter whch you have selected durng nstallaton. LPD: "lp" (lne prnter) must be entered as the name of the prnter on the computer (queue name) Adjustng Wndows Prnter Settng When the prnter drver vald for your Wndows verson s nstalled on your computer, Wndows standard applcatons can be used to edt the label contents and to start the prnt jobs. To use the Raw-IP or LPR/LPD prnt servces, the Wndows prnter settngs must be adjusted: 1. Open the folder contanng the prnters va Start > Settngs > Prnters. 2. Rght-clck the con of the label prnter. A pop-up menu appears. 3. Select "Propertes" n the pop-up menu. 4. Open the "Detals" or "Connectons" tab. Ths tab contans, among other thngs, the connectons whch were also set up when the prnt servces were nstalled. The names of these connectons depend on the nstallaton tool used. 5. Select the Raw-IP or LPR connecton. 6. Clck OK. 2.2 Connectng Label Prnter va USB Interface The hgh-speed USB nterface allows the label prnter to be operated va a USB nterface of a computer runnng the operatng system Wndows XP 32bt / 64bt, Wndows Server bt / 64bt, Wndows Vsta 32bt / 64bt, Wndows Server bt / 64bt, Wndows Server 2008 R2 64 bt, Wndows 7 32bt / 64bt and Wndows 8 32bt / 64bt. A prnter drver must be nstalled f an USB nterface wll be used for connecton. The prnter drver for your unt s found on the Prnter DVD whch s ncluded n the scope of delvery or on the nternet. 1. Swtch label prnter off. 2. Connect computer and label prnter wth an A-B cable. 3. Swtch computer on. 4. Place the Prnter DVD n the DVD drve. 5. Ext all programs currently runnng. 6. Swtch prnter on. The Wndows Installaton Wzard s started automatcally. Follow the on-screen nstructons. The source of the nstallaton fle s "D:\wndrv\wn32\" for Wndows XP 32bt / Wndows Server bt / Wndows Vsta 32bt / Wndows Server bt / Wndows 7 32bt / Wndows 8 32bt or "D:\wndrv\wn64\" for Wndows XP 64bt / Wndows Server bt / Wndows Vsta 64bt / Wndows Server bt / Wndows Server 2008 R2 64 bt / Wndows 7 64bt / Wndows 8 64bt where D s the letter of the DVD drve used. After successful nstallaton, an con for the label prnter appears n the Wndows "Prnter" system folder. 7. Clck con n "Prnter" system folder and make prnter settngs f necessary. 2.3 Connectng Label Prnter va Optonal RS-232 Interface An optonal RS-232 nterface adapter s avalable for the prnter. The nterface must be connected to an USB master nterface of the prnter. Notce! For detaled nformaton see the Operatng Instructons of the optonal nterface.

7 2 Connectng Label Prnter to Computer 2.4 Settng Up a WLAN Connecton To set up a WLAN connecton a WLAN USB Adapter (Part No ) s requred. 1. Connect the WLAN USB adapter to an USB master nterface. 2. Start the Offlne menu. 3. Select Setup > Interfaces > Network > WLAN. 4. Set DHCP or IP and Mask and f necessary Gateway for WLAN operaton on page Select Access-Pont. 6. Select Scan. The dsplay shows the avalable Access-Ponts. 7. Select the Access-Pont to be used and confrm the selecton wth. 8. If the network s protected a prompt to enter the passkey appears n the prnter dsplay. Enter the passkey and select. 9. If the IP address s assgned by DHCP, dentfy the IP n the Short status 5.2 on page Call up the prnter web nterface on page Open the "Setup" tab on the prnter web nterface. 12. Set the parameters descrbed n Tab "Setup" on page 19 n the path Setup > Interfaces > Network. Notce! For changng parameter settngs user name and password must be entered page 20. Do not change the settngs of the "IP" and "Gateway" on the prnter web nterface, as otherwse the connecton to the prnter may be lost. 2.5 Settng Up a Bluetooth Connecton To set up a Bluetooth connecton a Bluetooth USB Adapter (Part No ) s requred. Notce! A Bluetooth software s delvered wth the Bluetooth USB Adapter. 1. Connect the Bluetooth USB adapter an to an USB master nterface. 2. Swtch on the prnter. 3. Install the Bluetooth software on the computer. 4. Start the Bluetooth software. 5. Start "Search devces". The prnter wll be shown n a lst of Bluetooth devces. 6. Optonal : For an well-defned connecton of the devces select the prnter and clck "Connect Devces". Ether a passkey wll be shown or a wndow wll be opened where a passkey can be set. Set a passkey f necessary. The dsplay of the prnter shows a prompt to enter the passkey too. Enter the passkey. 7. Select n the software "Connectng" va "Seral Bluetooth Interface". The new nterface, e.g COM5, wll be shown 8. Install the current prnter wth connecton va the new COM nterface n the label software or n Wndows.

8 8 3 Offlne Menu Structure of the Offlne Menu The offlne menu contans settng optons on several levels for confgurng the label prnter. In addton, the offlne menu features test functons for supportng the confguraton or checkng the functon of the label prnter. 10 10 3 Offlne Menu Servce Key A servce key s requred for accessng specal servce functons not accessble to the operator. Ths key swtches the prnter to servce mode and enables: Access to addtonal confguraton parameters Resettng of the servce counter Resettng of passwords Addtonal nformaton n the status prnt and n the devce lst Prntout of an event lst Changng of the devce name Savng and loadng of confguraton settngs Access to PIN-protected confguraton parameters and functons wthout enterng the PIN Access to confguraton parameters for optonal assembles, even f they are not currently nstalled! Attenton! Incorrect settngs and data loss va unauthorzed access. Access protecton s deactvated when the servce key s nserted. Operaton of the prnter by unauthorzed persons can lead to ncorrect settngs and data loss n ths case. Provde the servce key to authorzed persons only. Remove servce key after servce work and store t n a secure locaton. Fg. 4 Insertng the servce key Insert servce key nto a USB master nterface of the prnter. The servce key also can be nserted whle the devce s swtched on. Notce! In ths document, parameters and functons whch are only accessble when the servce key s nserted are ndcated usng the followng note: Access only wth servce key nserted!

11 4 Confguraton Confguraton va Control Panel A host of parameters for confgurng the prnter are found n the Setup menu of the offlne menu. Confgure the prnter va the control panel durng ntal commssonng and when makng major changes to the operatonal condtons. For changes requred for processng dfferent prnt jobs use software settngs. Notce! The Setup menu can be protected from unauthorzed access va a code number (PIN) Local Settngs Start Offlne menu. Select Setup > Local settngs. Parameter Meanng Default Language Settng the dsplay language Englsh Country Tmezone Daylght savng Date Tme Keyboard Settng the country-specfc date and tme formats. The tme formats can also be overwrtten va software. The changes are not saved permanently, however. Adaptaton of the tme dsplay of the prnter to the tme zone n relaton to UTC (Unversal Tme Coordnated). Selecton of the daylght savng regulaton applcable for the regon. The tme s then changed automatcally. Settng of the system date n the format DD.MM.YYYY. The prnt output of the date occurs n the format set va the Country parameter. The date can also be changed va software. The change s not saved permanently, however. Settng the system tme n the HH:MM:SS format. When changng the tme, ensure that the Tmezone, Daylght savng and Date parameters are set correctly. The tme can also be synchronzed automatcally va the nternet usng the Ethernet nterface. The prnt output of the tme occurs n the format set va the Country parameter. The tme can also be changed va software. The change s not saved permanently, however. Settng of the keyboard layout when usng an external keyboard. If keyboard s not connected, access only wth servce key nserted! 12 12 4 Confguraton Machne Parameters Start Offlne menu. Select Setup > Machne param.. Parameter Meanng Default Prnthead pos. X Shftng of the entre prnt mage perpendcular to the drecton of 0,0 mm paper flow. The absolute shftng s lmted by the margns of the prnt zone. Those are determned by the wdth of the prntng lne on the prnthead. The Prnthead pos. X can also be set va software. The offset values from the Machne param. menu and the software are added together. Prnthead pos. Y Shftng of the entre prnt mage n the drecton of paper flow. Wth 0,0 mm postve values, prntng begns later n the drecton of paper flow. Shftng of the prnt mage n the drecton of paper flow also nfluences the cut poston. Correct the Cut poston parameters by the same value n the opposte drecton. The Prnthead pos. Y can also be set va software. The offset values from the Machne param. menu and the software are added together. Tear-off pos. Shftng of the tear-off poston n the drecton of paper flow. Wth 0,0 mm postve values, the label strp s transported farther out of the prnter. Cutter Confguraton of the cut parameters for devces wth cutter. If cutter s not nstalled, access only wth servce key nserted > Cut poston Offset of the cut poston relatve to the rear label edge. 0,0 mm The Cut poston can also be set va software. The offset values from the Machne param. menu and the software are added together. > Cuttng depth wth perforaton cutter only 0 Settng of the perforaton depth. The Cuttng depth can also be set va software. The offset values from the Machne param. menu and the software are added together. Backfeed Offset of the backfeed movement 1,0 mm poston Brghtn. LCD Brghtness of the LCD dsplay from 1 to 8. 8 Contrast LCD Contrast of the LCD dsplay from 0 to Volume Speaker Volume of the speaker : Mute, 1 or 2. 1 Tme Powersave Cleanng nterval Debug mode Tme between the last operaton and actvaton of energy-savng mode. Settng of ntervals for prnthead cleanng n ncrements of 100 m meda passage. If the set length of the medum (label strp, transfer rbbon) has passed the prnthead and an error occurs n the flow of the medum (e.g. label end, transfer rbbon end), the Clean prnthead! message appears n the dsplay. The error message for the error whch occurred s not dsplayed untl the Clean prnthead! message s acknowledged. As long as no errors occur n the medum flow, no messages are dsplayed and the prnt job s contnued even f the cleanng nterval has passed. 13 4 Confguraton Prnt Parameters Start Offlne menu. Select Setup > Prnt param.. Parameter Meanng Default Heat level The Heat level settng only affects the test prntouts and prnt 0 jobs wthout heat level defnton n the software. Otherwse the heat level defned n the software s used. Prnt speed Basc prnt speed settng. 50 mm/s The prnt speed can be re-specfed for each prnt job va software. The basc settng s not changed by ths. The prnt speed settng also affects the test prntouts. Transfer prnt On for thermal transfer prntng: Sensor for montorng the transfer On rbbon s actvated. Off for thermal drect prntng: Sensor for montorng the transfer rbbon s not actvated. The settng can be overwrtten for each prnt job va software. The basc settng s not changed by ths. Warn level rbbon Warnng va the Ethernet nterface by way of an SNMP message or e-mal sent when the remanng dameter of the rbbon supply roll undershoots the set value (32 74 mm). Off Label sensor Extrapolate pos. Tear-off mode Backfeed Error-Reprnt Reprnt opton Method for detectng the startng end of the label. Gap Sensor: Detecton usng changes n the transparency between the label and label gap. Bottom-Reflect: Detecton usng reflex marks on the bottom of the medum. The postons of the labels whch are between the label sensor and the prnthead are calculated from the frst label recognzed by the sensor and the programmed label dstance. That way those labels can be prnted. Postonng the label medum for tearng off at the tear-off plate. On: Addtonal advancement of the label medum whch postons the label gap after the last prnted label at the dspense plate. Off: Label advance stops once the last label has fully passed the prnt lne. Method for backfeedng the label medum. Backfeedng s necessary n the cuttng mode snce the front edge of the next label has passed the prnt lne when cuttng a label. always: Backfeedng occurs ndependently of label contents. smart: Backfeedng only occurs when the next label s not yet fully prepared cuttng the current label. Otherwse, the prntng of the next label s started, nterrupted and completed after cuttng of the frst label wthout backfeedng. On: Wth a correctable error and correspondng troubleshootng, the label beng prnted when the error occurs s repeated. Off: Prnt job s contnued wth the next label. Prntng of another label wth the nformaton of the prevous prnt job by touchng. Ths functon can be executed untl the prnt buffer s cleared wth. Gap Sensor off On smart On On

14 14 4 Confguraton 14 Parameter Meanng Default Protocol error On: Prnter swtches to Error mode when unknown or faulty data s On receved. Off: When workng wth older computer operatng systems, t s possble that the prnt spooler of the operatng system wll reply to the prnter wth normal status messages of the prnter (e.g. end of paper) n the form of ASCII text. The prnter cannot nterpret ths data and outputs a large number of protocol errors. In ths case, t s advantageous to set the Protocol error parameter to Off. Attenton!! If the Protocol error parameter s set to Off, protocol errors whch can be traced back to faulty programmng are also gnored. There s a rsk of data loss. Access only wth servce key nserted! Barcode error On: Wth faulty barcode contents or sze specfcatons, prntng s On nterrupted. Off: Prntng s not nterrupted f an error occurs. If barcode contents are faulty, the prnter attempts to replace the ncorrect data wth vald characters (e.g. zeros). If barcode sze specfcatons are faulty, a gray area s prnted nstead of the barcode. Wdth ASCII dump Wdth of the prntng area n the ASCII Dump test functon Automatc 5.7 on page 31. Wth the Automatc settng, the prntout of the control sequences arrvng at the prnter occurs over the maxmum prntng wdth. The prntng area wdth can be reduced down to 50 mm. ZPL Settng of the label parameters for ZPL data. Access only when at least one nterface s set to operate ZPL data.. > Prntng wdth Settng the prnt wdth 100,0 mm > Label length Settng the label length 150,0 mm Table 5 Parameters of the menu Setup > Prnt param.

Because of the lmted wdth of the dsplay t s not possble to dsplay all wdgets smultaneously. Wdget Meanng Default Clock Dsplays the current tme. On Date sheet Dsplays the current calendar day. On Date/tme Dgtal dsplay of current date and tme Off dgtal Temperature Dsplays the current prnthead temperature. Off Rbbon supply Dsplays the current rbbon supply n the form of a horzontal bar. Off Cutter Dsplays a cutter connected On Ethernet Status Dsplays the Ethernet status Off WLAN Dsplays the WLAN status Off - grey symbol f WLAN adapter s nstalled - black symbol f WLAN adapter s connected to an Access Pont Bluetooth Dsplays the Bluetooth status Off - grey symbol f Bluetooth adapter s nstalled - black symbol f Bluetooth connecton s actve (pared, seral port open) Data transfer Dsplays the current data transfer n the form of a fallng drop. On Table 7 Parameters of the menu Setup > Status lne Securty By actvatng a PIN, the Setup menu, certan storage devce functons and the frmware update can be protected from unauthorzed access. The protected menu tems are then only accessble after the PIN s entered. Start Offlne menu. Select Setup > Securty. 17 4 Confguraton 4.2 Confguraton va the Web Interface The parameters accessble va the control panel can also be set va the web nterface contaned n the frmware of the prnter. In addton, other parameters for the Ethernet and WLAN nterfaces are accessble there. The drectores "fonts", "mages", "labels" and "msc" are created on the storage devce here. 3. Copy the frmware fle to the "msc" drectory of the storage devce. If an error occurs agan, the confguraton parameters must be entered va the control panel.

Wth the Save settngs functon the prnter confguraton can be saved to a storage devce (USB flash drve, Internal Flash Fle System). The confguraton wll be saved as XML fle n the folder \MISC of the storage devce. The current date s used as fle name YYYYMMDD.XML (e.g XML for a fle saved on ). 1. If the prnter confguraton should be saved to an USB flash drve, select USB Memory as Default Storage and nsert USB flash drve nto a USB master nterface. If the prnter confguraton should be saved on the Internal Flash Fle System, select IFFS as Default Storage. 2. Start Offlne menu. 3. Select Servce. If the menu s protected va a PIN a prompt appears n the dsplay. Enter the code number and confrm wth OK. 4. Select Save settngs. 5. Savng of the confguraton data starts. When the entre savng procedure s complete the name of the created fle appears n the dsplay. 6. Confrm wth. The prnter returns to the Servce menu. If the log fle should be saved to an USB flash drve, select USB Memory as Default Storage and nsert USB flash drve nto a USB master nterface. An FTP program (FTP clent) s requred whch supports the "bnary" transfer mode to manage the prnter. The prnter functons as an FTP server. FTP prnter management s comprsed of four functons: drect prntng va copyng JScrpt fles management of the storage devces nstalled n the label prnter IFFS management prnter frmware update "8.4" on page FTP Logon To establsh an FTP connecton, the clent must be logged on to the server. The logon type depends on the clent. Close the FTP connecton. 8.3 FTP Access to Storage Devces FTP connecton allows to manage data of a storage devce: Establsh a FTP connecton wth the user name ftpcard and the defned password (Default: card). The content of the storage devce wll be shown. The fles are separated nto several subfolders accordngly based on ther type. Manage the fles as necessary. When copyng fles to the folder, type-based sortng occurs automatcally n the subfolders. Close the FTP connecton.

40 40 8 FTP Prnter Management FTP Frmware Update FTP allows to carry out a frmware update: Establsh a FTP connecton wth the user name ftpadmn and the defned password (Default: admn). An empty folder of the FTP server wll be shown. Copy a vald frmware fle (e.g. 413_3115.cfw) to the folder. The status of the savng procedure s shown by a progress ndcator n the dsplay. The prnter resets automatcally after the update s carred out successfully. Close the FTP connecton. Whether the frmware update was carred out successfully can be checked on the "Status" tab of the web nterface.

Example: Wth drect programmng, the command sequence for savng a label (fle XYZ) has the followng form: Ms LBL; XYZ Command for savng the fle XYZ J H 100,0,T S l1;0,0,68,71,104 Contents of the fle XYZ T 10,10,0,3,pt15;memory card A 1[NOPRINT] Ms LBL End of save command After transfer of the command sequence, the fle XYZ s saved wth the commands from J to A. Only one label s prnted each tme the fle XYZ s called up. The [NOPRINT] parameter n command A suppresses the prntng of a label when the fle s saved. To prnt the label a varable number of tmes, use command A [?]. 9.5 Storage Devce Functons n the Offlne Menu Accessng the Storage devce menu s only possble f a storage devce s nstalled and defned as Default storage "4.1.4" on page Load Label Labels whose descrptons are saved on the storage devce can be prnted usng the Load label functon. 1. Start Offlne menu. 2. Select Storage devce > Load label. The content of the folder "labels" wll be shown. 3. Select the desred label. 4. Confrm wth. If a label s selected whch was saved wth a fxed contents and fxed label quantty, the prnt job s started mmedately. If addtonal nput on the label descrpton s requred, the dsplay requests to enter the varable data. For label descrptons wth a varable label quantty, a prompt to enter the label quantty s dsplayed. Enter the label quantty/varable data. 5. Select to start the prnt job.

43 9 Storage Devces Prntng Drectory The Prnt drectory functon creates a lst of the fles stored on the default storage devce. 1. Insert prntable medum (labels, endless paper) whch extends across the entre prntng wdth. 2. If the prntout s to occur usng thermal transfer prntng, nsert transfer rbbon wth the maxmum wdth. 3. Start Offlne menu. 4. Select Storage devce > Prnt drectory. The drectory of the storage devce wll be prnted. Content of the prntout: the name of the storage devce nformaton on the saved fles the sze of the avalable memory area Formattng Storage Devce For external storage devces only! The Format functon can be used to delete all data from a storage devce. Ths reformats the storage devce. Ths s why you can also use the Format functon f the Unknown card or Structural err. error message was output when usng the devce. 1. Insert USB flash drve nto a USB master nterface. 2. Start Offlne menu. 3. Select Storage devce > Format. If the functon s protected va a PIN a prompt appears n the dsplay. Enter the code number and confrm wth OK. The dsplay shows Delete all fles. 4.
